Keenetic giga firmware recovery. Restoring a router after an unsuccessful firmware

The article is addressed to the owners of DIR-620 who managed to reflash their routers with ZyXEL Keenetic firmware according to my instructions

Why DIR-620 die and who is to blame

A month after the mass death of DIR-620 converted to ZyXEL Keenetic and general hysteria about this, I will name the main reasons for the "scouring" of the animals:

  1. Errors in product design. The RT3052 chip lacks the necessary heatsink, the use of which is recommended by the manufacturer RaLink. That is, the first reason is banal overheating.
  2. The peculiarity of the fourth release of firmware from ZyXEL Keenetic that independently updates the bootloader. At automatic change loading and subsequent reboot DIR-620 starts to shine with a “yellow eye”. Most likely, there are unknown hardware differences between DIR-620 and ZyXEL Keenetic, which lead to such consequences. Since the fourth release works fine on ZyXEL Keenetic. That is, the second reason is a feature of the fourth release of the ZyXEL Keenetic firmware.
  3. Poor quality of production and components. DIR-620 will die on any firmware, including original ones. That is, the third reason is MARRIAGE.
  4. The tsarist government, which until 1917 was unable to develop a normal router. That is, the reason is that we were born in the wrong country. So you know DIR-620 is sold only on the territory of the former USSR xUSSR, in the CIS and Baltic countries.

What not to do with the DIR-620

Do not install ZyXEl Keenetic firmware of the fourth release, both final and beta. These firmwares update uBOOT on their own. It is highly likely that after this procedure the DIR-620 begins to shine with a “yellow eye”. Either a massive marriage of the DIR-620, or the hardware differences between the DIR-620 and ZyXEL Keenetic. But with the firmware of the third release and the previous uBOOT, there is no mass dying of the DIR-620 that was changed to ZyXEL Keenetic.

What needs to be done with the DIR-620

If you decide to change the DIR-620 third party firmware, be it WIVE-NG or ZyXEL Keenetic. You must understand that you voluntarily disclaim the warranty.

Restore bootloader and firmware DIR-620

If you managed to flash your device with the firmware of the fourth release "KEENETIC-V1.00D0", it doesn't matter final or beta. Then I strongly recommend that you roll back to the firmware of the third release and restore uBOOT.

Exactly in this sequence. First, we roll back the firmware to the previous one, and only then we restore uBOOT. The reason is that the fourth release firmware updates the uBOOT bootloader automatically. And no matter how much you change it, the firmware will restore it on its own. The firmware of the third release cannot do this. That's why first roll back the firmware, then the bootloader.

Restoring stable firmware from ZyXEL Keenetic

According to the majority, the most stable firmware is V1.00 (BFW.3) D0 dated June 21, 2011. You can download the modified for DIR-620 from the page http://deadc0de.ru/downloads.html we take firmware P.7 or from here (this one and the same firmware).
Next, through the ZyXEL Keenetic web interface System -> Firmware

Installing the sewing.
Click "Browse", Select the firmware file ***. bin;
Click "Update" and wait for the end of the firmware process.

Repairing the uBOOT bootloader

There are currently two stable loaders for the DIR-620. This is the original uBOOT from D-Link 1.0.6 and 3.3.2 from Zyxel. The ZyXEL bootloader firmware makes it possible to restore the router without opening it in case of unsuccessful firmware. You can use TFTP for recovery, this is not possible in the original D-Link bootloader.

I remind you! If a failure occurs during the bootloader firmware (shutdown, power surge), then the router can be restored only on the programmer.
You will not be able to restore the bootloader via the ZyXEL Keenetic web interface. To restore it, you need a flash drive formatted in EXT3. I did it from Ubuntu, but any other will do. Linux distribution, up to LiveSD (Live-CD).
Download a bootloader of your choice from D-Link from ZyXEL.
Unpack and copy the contents ( system folder and the mtd0 file) to the USB stick.
In the ZyXEL Keenetic web interface, open System -> Journal, insert our USB flash drive and observe:

PREPARE TO FLASH ...

removing / var / tmp / mtd * ...
copying mtd0 to / var / tmp / ...
OK.
flashing mtd0 (Uboot) ...
COMPLETE!

We are waiting for a couple of minutes. You can smoke or drink coffee :-). Then turn off the router (pull out the power supply from the socket), take out the USB flash drive, turn on the router. Attention!!! Do not overload the router programmatically with an installed USB flash drive (prepared for uBOOT firmware)!

That's all. The bootloader has been restored. Installed stable firmware... Have a nice work.

Updating and flashing software router, modem or optical terminal GPON is business as usual and normal for anyone network equipment... Bugs are fixed, bugs are removed, new functions are added. But what to do if during this process there was a failure or the light was turned off and you now have an almost useless piece of plastic on your hands. But do not despair - in some cases, you can try to restore the router firmware after unsuccessful firmware... We will now tell you and show you how this is done.

Advice: regardless of the brand and WiFi models router, it should be borne in mind that in order to restore the firmware of the device, you need to connect it to the computer via a wired Ethernet connection... Across wireless network the operation will not work! Only through the cable!

How to restore a D-Link router

On most modems and WiFi D-Link routers there is a special emergency interface Emergency Web Server... On some models, it was called Failsafe UI. This is a special firmware that allows you to restore the router's firmware in case of a failure. She is on such popular models like DIR-300, DIR-320, DIR-615, DIR-620. By the way, D-Link Emergency Web Server is very often used to return to the device factory firmware instead of the installed alternative (for example, Open-WRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.).

So, in order to restore a Wi-Fi router after an unsuccessful firmware, you must first download the firmware file from official server- ftp.dlink.ru. We find there the folder of our modem or router model, and in it - the folder Firmware.

Downloading latest version We put the software on our computer and put it in the root directory of some disk or on the desktop to make it easier to find.

The next step is to open Windows options, go to the "Network and Internet" section and find the section Ethernet.

Note: You can open the list of network connections in another way. Press the Win + R keys and enter the command in the "Run" window ncpa.cpl.

Choosing a connection by local network and click on it right click... A menu will appear in which you need to select the "Properties" item. A window will open where you need to double-click on the component IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4).

Another window of protocol properties will appear, in which you need to check the "Use the following IP address" box. Below you need to register the following:

IP Address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Click on the OK button sequentially in each window to apply the changes. The network card was prepared. After that, you need to turn off the router, hold down the Reset button with a paper clip and turn on the device again without releasing the button. You need to keep it pressed for about 30-40 seconds (sometimes a little longer). After that we release the reset, open the web browser and in address bar enter the ip address: 192.168.0.1 ... Press the "Enter" key. If everything worked out, the Emergency Web Server page will open.

Here you must first click on the "Browse" button, select the downloaded firmware file and click on the "Upload" button. This will start the firmware restoration of the D-Link router:

It is very important not to shutdown or reboot the router during the process. After the software is installed, you will see the authorization window of the standard web interface in the browser.

Attention! Do not forget to go back to the IP settings and set the automatic acquisition of the address and DNS servers.

Zyxel keenetic firmware recovery

In order to restore the functionality of Zyxel Keenetic routers, the developers have made special utilityKeenetic Recovery... You can download it from the download center (). After you have downloaded and unpacked the archive, run the program. A window like this should appear:

We carry out everything step by step exactly as written in the program. Namely, on the switched on Kinetic router, click on Reset and hold it pressed until the "Status" indicator starts blinking. After that, release the Reset button. Utility Keenetic Recovery should automatically recognize the hardware version and start restoring the firmware of the router.

After that, you will need to re-execute basic configuration device, otherwise with factory settings, as a rule, there will be no Internet access.

Emergency recovery of the firmware of the Sagemcom router (Rostelecom, Tatelecom, Dom.ru)

Universal routers Sagemcom [email protected] 2804, 1744, 3804 are provided to subscribers of the largest Russian providers - Rostelecom, Dom.ru, etc. Unfortunately, they sometimes also have troubles in the form of a flashed firmware after a power surge, or after an unsuccessful flashing. Fortunately, many sajemcoms also have an interface. disaster recovery... To use it, you must first search the Internet and download the firmware for your router model.
Then on network card statically write the IP address 192.168.1.2 - like this:

After that, turn off the router, press the "Reset" button with a pencil or fountain pen and turn it on again. We hold the button for 40-50 seconds, then release it. After that, we launch the web browser and enter in the address bar of the IP router -. The following page should open:

Click the "Choose" button and select the firmware file. Then click on the button " Update Software"And wait a few minutes while the router is being restored after an unsuccessful firmware. After the process is complete, you will again have access to the usual device web configurator. Do not forget to set automatic receipt of addresses in the TCP / IP settings.

How to repair QTech QBR-1040W and QBR-1041WU v2S

Another popular brand of routers by Rostelecom and a number of telecom operators is QTech. In particular, the QBR-1040W and QBR-1041WU v2S. In order to perform emergency recovery of the router, you must first download the latest firmware version from the manufacturer's official website. We also need the TFTP32 program.
We start by registering the IP address 192.168.1.2 on the network card of a computer or laptop, as I already said above. Next, we connect the computer and the second LAN port of the router, marked as LAN2.
The next step, using a pencil, hold down the Reset button and while holding it, turn on the power of the device. We hold it for 10-15 seconds, then release it.
Next, launch TFTP32.

In the Server Interface list, select the previously registered IP - 192.168.1.2 ... Open the Tftp Client tab and write in the "Host" field - 192.168.1.6 , and in the "Port" field - 69 ... In the "Local File" field, using the "..." button, select the router firmware file. It remains only to click on the "Put" button and wait until the software file is loaded. To be sure, we are waiting for another 10 minutes, after which we restart the device. Return to settings network adapter automatic receipt of addresses and check access to QTech.

Note: if you can't fill in the firmware on 192.168.1.6, try to do it on 192.168.1.1. The fact is that for emergency recovery of the router on different version devices can use different IP addresses.

Unfortunately, software problems happen to devices from all manufacturers without exception. It's just that for some it happens more often, for someone less often. The winner, of course, can be called D-Link, TP-Link and ASUS are less common. Moreover, it should be noted that almost always the culprits are the owners of devices who, through carelessness or inexperience, killed the modem or router by installing the wrong version of the firmware.
But the cases when the firmware on the Zyxel router has flashed in my memory, I generally can count on my fingers. Interestingly; with the first version of the famous family of Kinetics, which came in a white case, this did not happen at all. It all started with the transition to NDMS v2 and the release of the 2nd version and the reduction in the cost of the hardware. Therefore, in the article I want to tell you how to return Zyxel router Keenetic II and III after unsuccessful firmware or its failure. The article will be relevant for all other models of the family (Lite, DSL, Extra, Giga, etc.)

There are two ways to this day; common for beginners and more difficult for more advanced users. We'll look at both options in turn.

Method 1. Ordinary

As a tool, we will use a special service utility Zyxel Keenetic recovery utility; You can download it on the official website of the company or from here; link. By the way, the archive is not small and weighs under 90 MB. This is due to the fact that it contains the latest software versions for all supported models. After unpacking, run the zkrutil.exe file. A window like this will appear:

In order to start restoring the firmware of the router, you must do the following exactly:
1. turn off the device;
2. disconnect all cables from it, except for the one connected to the computer or laptop with the utility running;
3. hold down the Reset button and turn on the power;
4. as soon as the Status indicator on the front flashes; ; release the button.

After that, the transfer of data to and writing of the firmware to the flash memory of the device should start.

If everything went well; You will receive a message that the restoration of the router has been completed successfully!

Press the Exit button ;. The process is complete.
We launch the web browser, enter the IP address 192.168.1.1 and try to enter the Kinetics web interface.

Method 2. Advanced

With all this option, we will do the same thing that the utility does above, only manually. The sequence of actions is as follows:

1. First, download the firmware archive from here, or go to the Zixel official website, in the Support section; we find files for our Kinetics model and download the archive from there.

2. You need to download the tftpd32 utility on the Internet, install it and put the firmware into the folder where it is installed (usually C: \ Program Files \ Tftpd32). On this moment Attention! The principal moment. If you took the firmware from the site, then it must be changed correctly:
For Keenetic II; k2_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic III; k3_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Giga II; file kgiga2_recovery.bin
For Keenetic Giga III; file kgiga3_recovery.bin
For Keenetic Ultra; kultra_recovery.bin file

For Keenetic Lite II; klite2_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Omni; komni_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Omni II - komni2_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic 4G II; k4g2_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic 4G III; k4g3_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Start; kstart_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic DSL; kdsl_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Viva; kviva_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Ultra II; kultra2_recovery.bin file
For Keenetic Vox; kvox_recovery.bin file

3. Configuring static ip address on network board computer or laptop. To do this, press the Win + R button combination to open the folder with network connections... Right-click on the local network connection and select the Properties menu item; In the window that opens, double-click on the line IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4) ;:

Here it is necessary to set the Use the following Ip-address flag; and register the following properties:

IP Address: 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

DNS servers can be omitted, but you can register such as in the screenshot. There will be no difference from this, since they are not used in the process of restoring the router.

4. Launch the Tftpd32 utility. At the moment, turn off the power of the router, hold down the Reset button; and turn it on again! After 5 seconds after switching on, the button must be released.

5. We look at the logs of the TFTP server; the process of downloading the firmware to the device should begin:

How the recording will end; wait for about 10 minutes, after which we return the automatic receipt of Ip-addresses on the network card. Restoring the router after an unsuccessful firmware is completed, we are trying to enter the web configurator.

Note: If on gigabit models Giga, Ultra and Viva when using the supplied cable, the process of downloading the software to the memory of the Zixel Internet Center does not start; you need to test connecting it to a computer or laptop using a four-wire (two-pair) patch cord that supports speeds up to 100 Mb / s.
