It is the same thickness of the frames on the sides, bottom and top that creates a very pleasant feeling during use.
Apple created the notch for a reason. Marketers understood perfectly well what such a decision would lead to. They knew that others would follow the trend set by Apple. And so it happened. MWC 2018 gave us an idea of where the market is heading in 2018. And if Android fans sneered at the notch in the display, now they will have to put up with it, because almost all flagship - and not only flagship - smartphones will now have a notch.

However, there is a suspicion that not everyone chooses phones, focusing on numbers and records, otherwise how can one explain the relative success HTC One, Moto X and other average androids with a human screen size. YotaPhone was warmly welcomed by foreign journalists, the phone was awarded prizes for innovation, but sales of the first model were, to put it mildly, modest. The starting price of 20,000 rubles was probably too high, and the second screen was not very convenient: it is controlled using a separate panel. The shortcomings should be corrected by the next YotaPhone 2 model. In particular, its paper screen will be fully touch and you can even make calls from it.

The new Blackberry Passport has a physical QWERTY keyboard, but with support for some gestures, impressive parameters (for example, a 13-megapixel camera and a 3450 mAh battery) and a completely square touch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 1440. Formally, you can’t call it a phablet (diagonal only 4.5 inches), but with one hand you definitely can’t handle it. Reviews in tech blogs so far, alas, are mostly mocking.

Oddly enough, manufacturers are still producing, and someone is happy to buy phones that do not have a touch screen and access to the App Store, but there are physical buttons and the battery lasts a week or more. One of the most decent - last year's Nokia 515 with a metal case, two slots for SIM cards, a 5-megapixel camera and 3G support (for checking mail). If the Internet and the camera are not needed, the Microsoft store still sells feature phones for a thousand rubles like the Nokia 106 with a flashlight. And finally, if you need a completely radical option for pensioners or children, with large distinct buttons, an unpretentious interface and an almost endless working time, then nothing better than Just5 or SpareOne has yet to be invented.
There are a lot of copies of the iPhone now, but it's one thing when they are made Chinese brands, which no one knows about, and the other is eminent manufacturers. Of course, a list of 5 copies of the iPhone can easily be filled with Samsung phones (because it is known that good artists copy, and great ones steal), but there are other brands whose iPhone-like phones sell very well.
The history of large-scale proceedings between Samsung and Apple began precisely with the Galaxy S. Then the Cupertino people accused their Korean friends of impudent copy iPhone. And you know, the accusations were not without foundation. Design back then Samsung flagship very much resembled an Apple phone (namely, the iPhone 3GS).
There is no denying that these two phones are very similar in appearance. The frames on the sides and the rounded corners are striking. But Samsung then decided that if you copy, then copy everything. The designers didn't bother too much about the new interface and again peeped (quite a bit) the idea from Apple. In its lawsuit, the Apple company referred to both the square icons (which are so well located in the Galaxy S) and the grid sizes (4 by 4), because this is the principle that the iPhone menu is built on.
The legal epic lasted for several years (sometimes it even seemed that it would never end), the companies alternately filed suits against each other in different courts (then even the special term “Patent trolling” appeared). For short periods, sales of both Apple and Samsung devices were banned. True, only in local markets (although they are also quite large): the USA, Australia, Korea and others. Such "manoeuvres" certainly brought companies big losses. For example, Samsung was ordered by a court to pay Apple $1 billion.
Now it is very joyful to see that Samsung is trying to make its own unique design, and they are doing it very well. And it doesn’t matter at all that outwardly all phones and tablets of Koreans are similar to each other.
Here is “Huawei” (sorry), it would seem good company, began to make good phones and win the trust of customers. But the Chinese beginning made itself felt. One fine day, the company's designers decided to make the phone look like the iPhone 5. Although, no. Not similar. The same. That's how it came into being Huawei Ascend P6.
They stole only the appearance, they decided to install their own user interface (branded). Despite borrowing the design, the phone doesn't look like a cheap copy of the iPhone. I will say even more - the Huawei case looks in places even more beautiful than that of an Apple smartphone.
Such a situation as with the Samsung Galaxy S, most likely, is not expected. Apple has no plans to sue Huawei. There may be several reasons for this: Cupertinites are now very much “busy with innovations” (exit new iPhone on the nose, and all that), the “Chinese” won’t be able to knock down a lot of money, or they don’t even know about the existence of a brand like Huawei.

It seems to me that such a move by companies (to make phones look like iPhones) is not very correct. You can safely create a unique design and get a good profit from sales. If we take Samsung as an example, it will not be entirely correct (before the ship story with the Galaxy S began, the company already had a good name). But the situation with OnePlus One or Oppo Find 5 shows that success can be achieved without attracting buyers with similarities to Apple. And making copies of the iPhone is the lot of Chinese “no-names”.
