What is the resolution of the tablet 10 inches. Tablet PC for games

Choosing a tablet computer is not an easy task. Especially now, when the market is simply overflowing with a wide variety of models in various price categories. I would like to save money and buy a high-quality model that is convenient to use.

The main element that everyone pays attention to is the screen. In it, it performs both the function of outputting information and its input. For this reason, for the most convenient use, it is required that the screen is large and of high quality.

However, a large screen entails, firstly, a higher price, and secondly, some inconvenience. A tablet with a very large screen cannot be put in your pocket, and it will be inconvenient to hold it with one hand. So what should you look for when choosing?

Before considering a tablet with the best screen, you definitely need to know what kind of screens there are. A lot depends on this indicator. So, tablets use three types.

Resistive

The simplest and cheapest. They also have a number of positive properties in the form of unpretentiousness to the object being controlled (finger, stylus, etc.), resistance to pollutants, and very low cost.

Despite these clear advantages, resistive touchscreens have major disadvantages. The most important and significant of these is the likelihood of rapid surface wear due to pressing. As a rule, resistive screens last no more than six months. It is for this reason that most manufacturers do not install them on their devices.

Projected capacitive

They can perfectly withstand mechanical stress, respond well to touch. Despite the versatility, this type has some sensor error, and its cost is higher.

Capacitive

They can be called the most reliable and popular. All well-known manufacturers install such displays on their devices. These screens are bright, durable, and quite cheap. They react to special input devices and a finger. If you wear a glove, there will be no reaction.

A tablet with a better screen will naturally have a capacitive I / O device. I must say that this type of display has a lot of varieties, but we will single out a few of the most popular ones.

Types of capacitive screens

Capacitive matrices can be of the following types:

  • IPS (cheapest and most popular);
  • PLS (similar to IPS, but used exclusively by Samsung);
  • AMOLED (does not require backlighting and a very bright matrix, but eyes get tired of it);
  • Super Clear LCD (touchscreen analogue of LCD monitors).

The screen reaction and its quality are not too dependent on the type of matrix. But the image shows that conventional cheap IPS displays fade in the sun, while AMOLED and LCD do not.

The tablet with the best screen, of course, will have a capacitive I / O device.

The best tablet screen ever

Very important indicators in determining the quality of the screen are:

  • permission;
  • frequency;
  • image quality;
  • the size.

Let's take a look at the tablet with the best screen and make a comparison in the form of TOP-6, gradually approaching the leader.

№ 6

So, the last on the list is the tablet. Asus Memo Pad HD 7... Although this gadget has a rather small (seven-inch) screen with a modest resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels, it is very bright and colorful. The implementation of the color scheme is excellent here. The image, which is easily viewed on the screen, is quite detailed and rich in color. With this tablet in the form of pre-installed software comes a special one that makes it possible to easily adjust all the display settings and make it exactly the way you want it.

№ 5

In fifth place is a gadget called Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7... In our country, this tablet is not very popular, but in the world markets it is among the twenty best-selling. The model from Amazon offers users a very high-quality 7-inch display with a good resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. This is the screen that is installed in the Google Nexus 2013 release.

The image of the device is very clear, colorful and detailed. But at the same time, the cost of the Kindle Fire is lower than its competitors. The sensor response is good even in severe frosts. Also, thanks to a special matrix, it is convenient to work on this tablet in any light.

№ 4

The fourth place is deservedly occupied by the famous Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0... Probably, there is not a single modern person who would not have heard of this line of tablets. But the eight-inch model has become a legend precisely because of its colorful screen. It was appreciated by even the most demanding people who prefer to buy an expensive tablet, but of high quality. The display resolution is not the highest that the market can offer, but this does not prevent this gadget from producing bright and clear pictures.

№ 3

The brainchild is currently the bronze medalist Google called Nexus 7... This tablet was released in 2013 and immediately became one of the most coveted devices for the progressive youth. The screen resolution of this device is 1920 x 1200 pixels. But at the same time, their concentration on one square inch is quite dense, since the display diagonal is only seven inches. Bright and contrasting, this one will interest anyone.

№ 2

The second brainchild from Google - Nexus 10 tablet... Why did he come in second? It's just that such a gadget with a huge, bright, colorful and clear screen cannot be ignored. The sensor has good responsiveness, and all applications and games literally "fly" thanks to the powerful processor and large RAM.

A gadget with a huge, bright, colorful and clear screen cannot be ignored

№ 1

Gold in our TOP-6 is awarded to the only device that does not run on the Android OS. This, you guessed it, Apple iPad on iOS... Whatever one may say, but the laurels of primacy always go to an experienced manufacturer who has proven himself excellently, producing quality products for many years.

The iPad screen has the highest resolution at 2048 by 1536 pixels. And this is with a ten-inch diagonal. This display can truly be considered the best in the world. But, as always happens, you have to pay very well for the convenience and high quality. For this reason, such a gadget will not be affordable for everyone.

This display can be considered the best in the world.

New with the best screens

  1. A device called Jolla Tablet was presented to the public quite recently. It is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2015. The difference is its own OS called Sailfish. In addition, the gadget has a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1536 × 2048 pixels. It implements the technology of the matrix IPS LCD with support for 5 points at the same time. This toy will cost users about $ 200.
  2. The second gadget with a good display that recently hit the shelves is Dell Venue 8 7000... Its colorful, bright and sun-resistant OLED screen measures 8.4 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels. In addition to the display, the gadget has another distinctive characteristic in the form of a case thickness - only 6 mm.
  3. Another novelty is Galaxy Tab S with a screen diagonal of 8.4 inches. This "monster" has at its disposal eight cores, three GB of RAM and a gorgeous screen with a Super AMOLED matrix. The technology allows you to simultaneously support up to ten points, there is a finger scanner and much more. If you want to get an ultra-modern, almost perfect colorful, fast tablet, and at the same time there is a desire to preserve your eyesight, then this gadget is for you. Naturally, for such a "toy" you will need to pay quite an impressive amount - $ 400, which is relatively expensive. But in return, you can get a device that has ideal parameters.

So, when choosing a tablet with the best screen, you need to pay attention not only to the number of dots (resolution), but also to the brightness of the screen, as well as to the possibility of making individual settings. If working and playing with the gadget takes a long time, you need to take care of your eyes. This will help tablets with high-quality capacitive screens.

This article provides tips to help you choose a tablet.

For starters, what is a tablet?

This is a large, or even very large, smartphone - which is inconvenient or even impossible to call. The filling is the same as in smartphones. The operating system is most often the same - Android. So yes - it's a big, heavy smartphone.

The question arises, what then are tablets for? If you have smartphones.

Tablets have three advantages over smartphones:

  • Larger screen. On a tablet screen, the resolution is either higher or, at the same resolution, the image details are larger, which is important for people with not very good eyesight.
  • On a larger screen, it is more convenient to use a touchscreen.
  • Typically, tablets have a larger battery. And this gives great autonomy.

What are tablets for?

The tablet allows, more conveniently than on a smartphone, to perform the following actions:

  • Read or edit some text.
  • View the site.
  • View mail and reply to emails.
  • Write a message to social networks, forum, chat.
  • Easily process a photo or other image.
  • Play simple games.
  • Watch a video or movie.

The tablet is not a replacement for a computer

Although a tablet is a computer in its essence, it nevertheless cannot completely replace a computer. On a tablet, you cannot:

  • Fully work with documents - test files, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Fully work with graphics.

Because:

  • Small screen.
  • Lack of keyboard and mouse. Although you can connect an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you won't carry them with you.
  • Operating system Android (or iOS) for which there are no professional applications of the level of MS Office or LibreOffice.
  • Operating system Android (or iOS) for which there is no full support for the network and external equipment (printers, etc.).

True, there are tablets on the Intel hardware platform, with Windows 8 or 10. But they:

  • Expensive.
  • Bigger and heavier.

That is, in terms of their weight and size characteristics, these are not exactly tablets, and thus they are inferior to Android tablets in mobility.

And for them, the limitations of a small screen, the lack of a full-fledged keyboard, remain in the same way.

The main function of the tablet

If we approach the issue pragmatically, then the main function of the tablet is to ensure the use of the Internet in a more convenient form than is possible on a smartphone.

The main characteristics of tablets

Tablet manufacturer... The best tablets are sold by companies Sony, Asus, Samsung, Lenovo, Acer... Although there are less well-known Chinese companies that make good tablets and are much cheaper than this five. Nevertheless, buying a tablet from one of these five is a very high probability that the tablet will serve you for a long time and will not torment you with problems. While buying a Chinese tablet is a lottery.

Tablet dimensions... The right tablet should fit in a regular men's or women's bag. That is, about the size of a thin hardcover book. The 10 inch tablet can only fit in a large bag. A 7 or 8 inch tablet can even be put in a large pocket of clothes or in any bag.

Tablet weight... The correct tablet should weigh no more than 500-600 grams. A 10 inch tablet usually weighs 600-700 grams. A 7 or 8 inch tablet typically weighs 300 - 400 grams.

Tablet autonomy(battery life). A good tablet should run on batteries for at least 6-8 hours. To a greater extent, this indicator depends on the capacity of the battery, which is indicated in milliampere-hours. For example 4000 mAh (or 4000 mAh).

GSM 3G (or 4G LTE) module (cellular)... A tablet is needed mainly so that anywhere you can get relatively convenient access to Internet resources. There are WiFi adapters in all tablets, but in our country there are far from everywhere WiFi access points. This means that in order to have access to the Internet anywhere, you need an internal GSM module in the tablet.

However, if the tablet supports the USB-host mode (otherwise it is also called USB OTG), then an external cellular USB modem can be connected to the tablet. However, this possibility needs to be specified for each specific model. Yes, and it's inconvenient - a modem dangling outside.

Screen brightness... The idea of a tablet assumes frequent use outdoors, in natural light. In summer it can be very light outside (in sunny weather). And many LCDs become almost invisible in sunny weather.

Screen matrix. In tablet screens, two types of matrices are used:

  • TFT TN- very cheap matrices. There are problems with viewing angles and color reproduction. Color distortion appears at viewing angles less than 90%. At viewing angles closer to 180 degrees, the picture may become almost indistinguishable.
  • TFT IPS- more expensive matrix. Viewing angles are close to a maximum of 180 degrees. Wider color gamut.

Secondary tablet parameters

Tablet characteristics that only improve the consumer quality of tablets, but are not critical:

Tablet connectors... A good tablet should have a USB connector operating in Host mode (otherwise it is also called USB OTG). This will allow you to connect a USB flash drive, keyboard, external drive or external cellular modem to your tablet. It is very good if there is also an HDMI connector, this will allow you to connect the tablet to a TV or monitor.

Physical screen size(diagonal in inches). The smaller the screen size, the smaller the tablet size, but also the smaller the screen image. The three most common screen sizes are 10.8 "(4: 3 or 16:10 screen) and 7" (16:10 screen).

Tablet screen resolution(in points horizontally and vertically). A good tablet should have a horizontal resolution of at least 1,024 dots (pixels). The most common tablet screen resolutions are 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 800 pixels.

But in the segment of middle prices there are models with a resolution of 1920x1080, 1920x1200, and in the segment of expensive models even 2048x1536 (the so-called Retina display). Usually the resolution is higher than 1280 x 800 pixels for 9 or 10 inch models. But there are also rare models with a diagonal of 8 inches and a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels.

The higher the screen resolution, the more beautiful the picture. However, the more expensive the screen and the tablet itself. Despite the fact that there is no objective need for such a high resolution yet. Most of the resources - sites, videos - fit at most FULL HD resolution of 1920x1080. For books and documents, even a modest 1024 x 768 is enough. And so it turns out that high resolution, 1920x1080 and above, today gives a win only when viewing photos.

RAM size... A good tablet should have at least 512 megabytes of RAM. But it is better if 1 gigabyte. For an Intel x86 Windows tablet, there must be at least 2 gigabytes.

Built-in memory... The built-in memory of tablets is in the sense the same as a disk in a computer. And technically, this SSD is in a bare-core design (soldered directly onto the board). In this very built-in memory, the tablet operating system and application programs are installed. User data (files) and application cache are written to the same built-in memory.

Usually, tablets have the ability to expand this memory by installing an SD card. For Android tablets, the minimum built-in memory is perhaps 8 gigabytes. Although Android can be installed on 4 gigabytes, there will already be too little space for programs and user data.

Tablet selection

The first question you should ask yourself is - do you really need a tablet? After all, there are alternatives:

  • You can buy a smartphone, it will be smaller and lighter.
  • You can buy a laptop that will work normally.

And when choosing a tablet, the main thing is to determine exactly what you want.

If it's a status issue, then buy Apple or Samsung.

If you really need it for those tasks that can really be solved with its help, then you can buy any good tablet.

If you have to carry it around a lot, then it might make sense to buy a 7 or 8 inch tablet. And the size is smaller and the weight.

If you want to work more conveniently with texts on a tablet, then you can buy a so-called transformer tablet (sometimes they are called a laptop-tablet). For example ASUS Transformer Pad. These tablets have a docking station similar to the bottom half of a laptop. This dock has a keyboard and additional connectors. The tablet is inserted into such a dock and you get something close to a laptop. There is another variation on the same theme - an external keyboard, but it is made in the form of a tablet case. This option is certainly more convenient than a docking station.

But if the tablet has a USB connector operating in Host mode, then you can do without a docking station, but simply connect a USB keyboard and mouse to it. But this can be done at home or at work, it is inconvenient to carry a mouse and keyboard with you. And besides, such external devices will drain the tablet battery more.

However, you need to understand that in this case, full-fledged work will not be possible - after all, usually tablets are made on the ARM architecture and the operating systems of these tablets, Android, Windows RT, iOS, do not have such functionality and such a set of programs as Windows or Linux.

If you really need a tablet computer, then you need to look for a model that is made on the Intel x86 architecture (they are often not quite correctly called a Windows tablet). For example Microsoft Surface Professional (not to be confused with Microsoft Surface RT). These are really computers on which you can install a full-fledged OS - Windows or Linux. However, the size and weight of these tablets will be larger than those for ARM tablets. For example Microsoft Surface Professional weighs a kilogram.

My advice for choosing a tablet is simple. There are several points in it:

  • Screen diagonal 8 or 7 inches.
  • Screen Matrix Type - TFT IPS... Not to be confused with TFT TN - it's worse!
  • Screen resolution - for 8 inch tablets 1024 x 768, 1280 x 800 pixels, and for 7 inch 1280 x 800 pixels.
  • RAM - not less than 1 Gigabyte.
  • Internal memory (for installing programs and recording data) at least 8 Gigabytes.
  • Support for removable memory cards. Usually this microSD / microSDHC.
  • USB connector with mode support Host (OTG).
  • HDMI connector. But it is very rare on 7 and 8 inch tablets.
  • Interior GSM module, 3G or LTE.
  • Weight no more 400 grams.
  • Battery capacity not less 4000 mAh.

8 "screens mean not only 8", but also 7.85 and 7.9 inches. Strictly speaking, this "8" form factor, historically, means a diagonal of 7.85 inches and a 4: 3 format - this is exactly the screen size that the first tablet of this form factor - Apple iPad mini had had. But today there are many models with an 8-inch widescreen display, with a resolution of 1280 x 800.

The presence of a USB host (OTG) and HDMI will allow you to make a tablet almost a computer - connect a keyboard and mouse to a tablet, and a tablet to a monitor (or TV) and thus work almost like on a computer, except for the restrictions imposed by the Android OS.

Available in 8 or 7 inches, you can carry your tablet in any bag. 7 inch can even be in a jacket or coat pocket.

The weight of 300 - 400 grams will allow you to easily hold the tablet in your hands and even in one hand.

You can even make calls from an 8-7 inch tablet. Not very convenient, but real.

The battery capacity of 4000 - 5000 mAh will allow you to use the tablet for 6-8 hours without recharging. This implies 6-8 hours of clean work with the tablet, without waiting periods.

If there is no internal GSM module, but there is a USB host, then an external cellular modem can be connected. True, it will "hang out" outside, but the Internet will be. However, not all tablets with USB host support USB cellular modems - check!

Chinese batteries

When buying Chinese tablets, you need to be prepared for the fact that in 2-3 years you will have to change the battery. The difficulty is that, unlike phones, in a tablet, the battery cannot be simply pulled out and replaced with another. It is necessary to remove the lid with the help of tools, solder the old one and solder the new one. That is, you will have to go to the workshop and you will pay not only for the battery, but also for the work.

In this case, Chinese tablets mean all inexpensive tablets, regardless of the manufacturer. At the same time, more expensive Chinese ones, such as Asus, will certainly live longer.

Cheap Chinese Tablets

This includes tablets under $ 100. Sold directly in China under native labels. So in Russia we have labels such as Irbis, Prestigio, Digma Qumo, "interrupted" under "Russian" labels.

On the one hand, these are disposable devices for a couple of years. They are unlikely to last longer. On the other hand, in a couple of years it will be possible to buy a new same Chinese tablet, but with something fresh inside, for example, a new version of Android. Or a higher resolution screen. Or with higher resolution cameras.

A difficult question is whether to buy such tablets. On the one hand, fragility and glitchiness, on the other hand, the price is two to three times lower than for Asus, Samsung, Sony. Say what you like, but the low price is a very strong factor.

I would say this - you can certainly buy cheap tablets. But you need to carefully weigh the consequences. And be prepared for these consequences.

Tablet market in 2016

Tablets of the 4: 3 format, the so-called iPad and iPad mini format, have almost disappeared from the sale. Now tablets with a diagonal of 8 "are already widescreen, with a resolution of 1280 x 800.

In connection with the rise in the dollar, a bunch of models costing less than $ 100 appeared.

What are they saving on?

  • At least on internal storage, almost all cheap tablets now come with 8GB. You will almost certainly have to purchase an SD card for such a tablet.
  • Probably the batteries have become even worse.
  • No aluminum enclosures. Black plastic.
  • Screens with a resolution of 1024 x 600 were taken from the dustbin of history.

In general, the picture of 2016 is as follows - the market is trying to survive at the expense of dull shit.

Here are some interesting models that are on sale in 2016:

  • Prestigio MultiPad Wize 3108- very cheap. Battery 4200 mAh. Intel processor.
  • IRBIS TX89 LTE- very cheap. There is LTE.
  • Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 8 GB - battery 4800 mAh.
  • ASUS ZenPad 8.0 Z380KL - 16 GB, There is LTE.
  • Samsung GALAXY Tab A- PLS matrix. IPad mini format (4: 3 1024 x 768). 16 GB, LTE. Samsung, I do not know how it is now, but a few years ago Samsung was distinguished by high reliability and durability of mobile equipment, including long-lived batteries. But the price is also Samsung.

Consumer electronics stores are littered with a variety of tablets. At first it seems that they all differ only in size and price tag. Even outwardly, the devices are very similar! How to choose the right model for yourself? The answer is simple - read this article. We promise that after reading the material, you will easily choose the most suitable tablet for yourself.

Sometimes, when choosing a tablet, a consumer is guided by secondary parameters. We wish you to avoid these errors. In this article, some characteristics are not mentioned precisely for the reason that you should not pay attention to them. In short, we'd love to hear this guide help you!

Choosing an operating system

An operating system is a collection of utility programs available on any sufficiently complex electronic device. It is its presence that allows "ordinary" applications to use the hardware capabilities of the gadget, provides interaction with the user, etc. Modern tablets are equipped with one of three popular operating systems: iOS, Android or Windows. And also on the shelves of stores there are "tablets" on which a couple of operating systems are installed at once. But this is more an exception to the rule and concerns the Android / Windows combination.

iOS

The most stable operating system is iOS. It is optimized as much as possible, due to which it does not need a large amount of RAM. Choosing an iOS tablet, you get a user interface thought out in detail and a huge number of versatile applications. But be prepared for the fact that many of them will be paid. This OS is the property of Apple, so it is installed only on its iPad tablets, the cost of which is higher than devices with Android or Windows on board. But the products of the Cupertines have the longest technical support, and the performance of even outdated generations of "apple" gadgets is not inferior to competing proposals built on modern hardware platforms. A huge advantage of the entire family of iOS devices is the presence of the most convenient ecosystem. Of course, to take full advantage of it, you need to be the owner of more than one device with an apple on the lid. The downside of the closed nature of iOS is the complexity of direct exchange of user files and the limited customization of the interface. Well, the impossibility of expanding the available memory capacity scares off many potential buyers.

Pros: easy to use, easy to learn, has a developed and convenient ecosystem.

Minuses: closed platform, memory cards are not supported, problems with the exchange of third-party files, the impossibility of customization (installing themes and other utilities that change the interface).

Android

The Android operating system is open source and free, which is why most tablet manufacturers choose it. The software is developed by Google. The system is regularly updated, but owners of budget devices may not feel it. Some manufacturers are simply too lazy to modify the firmware for those tablet computers that have been replaced by new models. The openness of Android means that users can easily replace “standard” applications: player, browser, keyboard, dialers, etc. Another thing is that changing really fundamental things presupposes the presence of "straight" hands and often entails a loss of guarantee. The most unpleasant feature of this operating system is an increase in appetite for system resources and a tendency to become overgrown with digital "garbage". If a couple of generations of Android ago, sufficient RAM was considered whole gigabyte, then in 2018 they are already talking about 2 Gb Total... As for the "garbage" - the built-in OS tools have not yet learned how to deal with it successfully. In especially neglected cases, only a full reset with the loss of ALL user data allows the device to return to a comfortable operating speed. Fortunately, such a drastic method is rarely required.

Pros: rich functionality, the ability to change the interface at your discretion, a large number of free applications.

Minuses: rare system updates on budget tablets, increased resource requirements for stable operation.

Windows

Tablet computers with Windows on board have been around for a long time. But it wasn't until a few years ago that they started to get rid of fans and processors that drain battery power. And with the release of the tenth version of this operating system, the interface of such devices has become much more user-friendly. On the one hand, Microsoft programmers creatively adapted many necessary things, for example, quickly showing active applications, implemented a Back button and a notification center. On the other hand, Windows 10 has learned to automatically switch to a more convenient mode when working with the keyboard, and the corresponding algorithm is configured. Compared to Android, this system is better optimized for low-power hardware platforms. But this same feature has become an indirect reason that the current Windows-tablets are either high-performance solutions, or frankly weak, but with a keyboard. Well, the main advantage of Microsoft's operating system is the ability to use almost any "adult" application. Some of them even without a keyboard, if only the power of the filling allows.

Pros: the most convenient environment for full-fledged work with a variety of content, support for third-party peripherals.

Minuses: extremely limited number of offers with an average level of performance.

We figure out which tablet size to choose

Photo: planshetclub.ru

7-8 inches

Portable tablets are great for use at home, work or school. This is facilitated by their minimal dimensions and weight. It is with the help of such "tablets" that people read books, listen to music, watch films or play on the way. Compact tablets are convenient as car navigators and mobile surfing tools. Finally, it is the optimal size for children's hands.

Pros: compact size, minimum weight, low cost.

Minuses: the resolution often turns out to be low, and the filling is not powerful enough.

10 inch

The best tablet choice for home use. At the same time, modern tablet models have become so thin and light that there are no difficulties in transporting them. Large dimensions allow you to place a better speaker system and a higher battery in the case of such a device. At the same time, many manufacturers believe that such a large tablet does not need a GSM talk module, even if the circuit design provides for 3G technology support.

Pros: the size of the display is suitable for a wide variety of applications. In both mobile and stationary use cases.

Minuses: In budget models, graininess is noticeable due to insufficient screen resolution, many tablets lack a telephone module, Windows devices do not differ in efficient filling.

More than 10 inches

There are now also larger tablet computers. They are endowed with a screen with a diagonal of 11 to 13 inches. Usually these are "tablets" with installed iOS or Windows, similarly large devices with Android are produced much less frequently. It is clear that such devices are not very mobile with regard to mobility and, as a rule, they are focused on professional use.

Pros: best size for comfortable work with both keyboard and stylus. Good for watching movies.

Minuses: too large dimensions and solid weight.

Choosing the best processor for your tablet

Photo: paulov.ru

Strictly speaking, the "motor" of most tablets consists of several specialized units, technologically combined on one substrate, and it is called a single-chip system (System-on-a-Chip or SoC). The only exceptions are high-performance solutions of a professional level, built on Intel Core M or ULV processors, but we will not consider the features of the latter.

Number of cores

So, a typical SoC contains a number of computing units (cores) with an ARM architecture. Again, the exception is the Intel Atom family of SoCs that run on x86 / x64 instructions. The nuclei can be combined in the so-called. clusters and this is done in order to optimize energy consumption. Let's say half of them operate at a high frequency and turn on when necessary to serve requests for more computing power. The second one "works" the rest of the time, and since the nuclei in it are relatively low-frequency, the energy is consumed significantly less. It is impossible to give unequivocal advice - what is the optimal number of cores in this or that case. For example, the 6-core A11 Bionic chip (from Apple) will tear the latest 8-core Helio P40 (from Mediatek), as they say, to shreds. The maximum that we can recommend here is - pay attention to the "freshness" of the kernels. When choosing a processor for a tablet, it is best to focus on the Cortex A55 / A75 generation, at least on the A53 / A73 bundle (energy-efficient / high-speed, respectively), as well as their custom versions.

Video subsystem

The second component of a mobile processor is an accelerator - a kind of integrated graphics card. If the tablet is not going to be used for games or work with complex graphics, you can not pay much attention to the performance of this node. Otherwise, you have to take into account the speed with which the video accelerator is capable of performing floating point operations (Flops). In addition, the screen resolution also matters. Everyone has their own idea of a comfortable refresh rate, as well as the requirements for graphics quality settings. Nevertheless, we would venture to assert that tablets with SoCs of about 100 GFlops have sufficient gaming performance.

SoCs and their manufacturers

The ARM architecture itself was developed by the company of the same name, which licensed its solutions to everyone. The rights to this intellectual property are currently acquired by the Japanese corporation SoftBank. There are about one and a half thousand licensees in total, but we are interested in the following products:

APPLE Ax

Based on licensed, Cupertinos are developing their own version of the kernels. PowerVR accelerators from Imagination Technologies are used as a graphics subsystem. The single-chip A11 Bionic system already has its own GPU, but tablets on this SoC are not yet produced. Very powerful chips in every sense, even the outdated A9. There are fewer cores, the frequencies are lower, and all competitors are dying.

Pros: Apple tablets have really great gaming and overall performance and support all the most advanced features.

Minuses: overpriced.

Samsung also prefers to tweak the stock cores. Its SoCs of the 7870, 7880, 7885 series and all eight-thousandth are relevant now. To process graphics, they use older Mali accelerators (T830, T880, G71). What can I say - the power of such a system is enough for all the needs of the tablet and its owner. If necessary, South Koreans put third-party SoCs in their devices.

Pros: Samsung tablets are characterized by excellent performance and the presence of all the modern bells and whistles.

Minuses: price, sometimes unoptimized firmware.

INTEL ATOM

The feature of this single-chip system is extremely low power consumption. The company managed to "squeeze" its thermal package to a couple of watts, and Intel now does not want to change this position. Accordingly, we are not even talking about any performance records. Unfortunately, low-budget Windows tablets are based on the Atom platform.

Pros: tablets on Intel Atom chips are affordable and have decent battery life.

Minuses: the power of a single-chip system is sufficient only for simple tasks.

This SoC family is produced by a subsidiary of Huawei for a portion of the parent brand's mobile devices. The Chinese do not bother modernizing the stock ARM cores, so their single-chip systems usually work a little slower than their “classmates”. Just like in Exynos, Kirin chips are equipped with Mali graphics accelerators. The trouble is, HiSilicon's engineers (or management) love to save money. Where Samsung's SoCs use a 12-core version of Mali, Huawei mobile processors are often bypassed with 4-cores. With all the ensuing consequences.

Pros: brand with very worthy flagship-level chips.

Minuses: mid-budget SoCs have good overall performance and mediocre gaming performance.

MEDIATEK

The brand of the same name is more complete than all its competitors in the segment of low-cost solutions. The company uses off-the-shelf cores and graphics (PowerVR and Mali). She is not engaged in optimization, she does not have her own production, and financial opportunities do not allow her to invest partners. As a result, MediaTek's single-chip systems are lagging behind alternative offerings, as they are manufactured according to outdated technological standards. On paper, such SoCs can be beautiful, but in real life, not so. But the company's chips just work perfectly with GPS.

Pros: a huge range of entry-level and mid-range single-chip systems.

Minuses: noticeably inferior to the leaders of the industry in terms of technology.

SNAPDRAGON

The most popular and most widespread single-chip systems. They are developed by Qualcomm based on deeply processed licensed cores and Adreno's own accelerators. Such SoCs are characterized by excellent indicators of general and gaming performance, good energy efficiency, as well as other "goodies". The main disadvantage is the increased cost.

Pros: Snapdragon chips make excellent tablets of different levels.

Minuses: are relatively expensive, the most affordable solutions are inferior to their direct competitors on other platforms.

RockChip, Spreadtrum and others like them

They specialize in ultra-budget solutions. Stock cores and accelerators, the "coarse" technological standards possible at the time of production - no miracles can be expected from such single-chip systems.

Pros: matching tablets have tempting price tags.

Minuses: suitable for the most undemanding users. As a rule, they have an outdated set of wireless interfaces and do not impress with their autonomy at all.

Technological process

We have already mentioned this term several times, it remains to clarify what the norms used when creating a SoC affect. It's very simple, the finer the topology of the chip, the higher its operating frequencies (performance) and lower power consumption. The most technologically advanced mobile crystals are now manufactured at 10 nm standards. The 14-16 nm process technology is also quite modern.

RAM

Photo: acunnstatic.cdn1.sadececdn.com

It is a storage device with quick access to content that needs constant "maintenance" of the stored information. When the power is turned off, the latter simply disappears. During the tablet operation, the operating system kernel, various services, running applications, as well as most of the data used by them are located in RAM. If there is not enough space for a priority task, some of the user programs running in the background can stop and move to the so-called cache. With a more rigid version, only important data remains there, and the applications themselves are completely "unloaded". The bad news is that a significant shortage of "operatives" leads not only to a slowdown in the operation of the device, but also to the active use of the built-in memory, ie. its accelerated wear. The more applications you are going to use at the same time (for example, a social network client, messenger, music player, game), the more impressive your tablet should be in terms of this characteristic. For hardcore gamers, we generally recommend focusing on the amount of memory with an "extra" gigabyte. At the same time, a clear excess of this resource entails increased battery consumption.

1 GB

A critical minimum, sufficient for the system and one or two simple user applications. In principle, low-power devices have such a volume, which are not suitable for anything else. It is best if the operating system of a tablet of this class will have a lightweight user interface. Ideally, a "naked" Android.

Pros: affordable price.

Minuses: serious restrictions on the number of programs running in the background.

2 GB

Adequate memory size for most applications with a moderate appetite for system resources. It will be enough for several background applications, five or two open tabs in the browser and displaying images on a screen with a resolution not higher than Full HD. "Heavy" games will go, but practically all other tasks will have to be stopped. This applies to Android and Windows. The iOS operating system will not experience any problems with the 2 GB memory.

Pros: the lack of RAM is almost never felt.

Minuses: insufficient volume for especially demanding games and resolutions higher than Full HD.

3 GB

Comfortable amount of RAM for the vast majority of situations and scenarios of using the tablet. Ensures stable system performance with a 2K screen. Perceptible delays can be observed only when two resource-intensive applications are running in parallel.

Pros: there will always be enough memory, except in specific cases.

Minuses: Hardly ever.

4 GB or more

More than three gigabytes of RAM are still relatively rare in tablets. This volume does not limit the user in any way, it will be enough for any number of applications and all three-dimensional games.

Pros: lack of any restrictions.

Minuses: high price.

Additional functionality

Memory card slot

Any tablet computer has a certain amount of non-volatile memory. It is also called constant. It stores the operating system and user data (applications, music, videos, documents, and other files). The microSD card slot helps expand the available space. Unfortunately, it is absent in Apple products, so you will have to decide right away, iPad with how much internal memory to buy.

Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G

Before buying a tablet, be sure to familiarize yourself with which modules are used to connect to the Internet. Budget devices offer data transmission only via Wi-Fi. Slightly more expensive devices have a SIM card slot. In this case, you can connect to 3G networks. Modern models are capable of working with fourth generation mobile networks. It will not be superfluous for you to clarify which LTE bands the tablet supports. Domestic operators can exchange data on the B3, B7, B20, B38 and B40 bands. But there is no special variety in terms of high-speed Internet connection capabilities among 4G tablets yet. Returning to Wi-Fi, let us recall that this wireless interface can operate at 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies. With frequent use of the tablet in an apartment building or a large business center, it is worth making a choice in favor of the dual-band model.

GPS navigation

Most tablets can successfully perform the functions of a navigator, but there are separate models built using a universal radio module. Those. the device supports cellular networks - there is a GPS. Examples include “just” Wi-Fi and Cellular versions of the iPad.

Cameras

When choosing a tablet, you should pay attention to the camera last. Now a rare manufacturer builds decent optics and a sensor into the "tablet". The resolution of the matrix of the main module is most often equal to five or eight megapixels. The quality of photos does not exceed that obtained when using a smartphone of an average price level. There is nothing to say about budget tablets - they give out blurry or too noisy pictures.

Keyboard support

In general, there are no fundamental restrictions for using a Bluetooth keyboard in any tablet. And many models with the Windows operating system have full-size USB ports, which makes it possible to connect a pointing device or an input device over the air using an appropriate adapter. The peculiarity of the listed options is that such methods do not guarantee the stability of the pairing, and they are also accompanied by an increased power consumption. If you plan to use a tablet for active work with text, choose a tablet with a supplied or optional keyboard connected via a mechanical connector.

When choosing a tablet for drawing, first of all, we pay attention to:

  • stylus- it must be included in the kit.
  • display- resolution and diagonal should be as high as possible.

Take a look at the operating system additionally. A huge number of graphics editors have been created for Windows, but not every tablet will run Photoshop. Therefore, in some cases it is worth looking towards Android, which is much better optimized for use on a portable device. The professional iOS models are ideal for digital creativity, but they also cost the right amount.

Tablet PC for the "Internet"

If the tablet is bought primarily for surfing the Internet, when choosing, pay attention to:

  • display- its diagonal should be large enough to easily read the small print.
  • 3G or 4G support- thanks to it, you will be able to access the Internet through mobile networks.

It is advisable to familiarize yourself with the amount of RAM. The larger it is, the more stable the browser will work, the more tabs you can open. The operating system is of least interest. Surfing the internet is the same for iOS, Android or Windows.

Tablet PC for games

If you are choosing a tablet for games, then pay attention to:

  • CPU- you need to focus on a model with a powerful graphics subsystem.
  • RAM- many modern games are demanding on its volume, they need at least 3 GB.

Additionally, you should familiarize yourself with the capacity of the battery. Even a tablet with a solid enough battery won't let you play for longer than four hours in a row. What can we say about Chinese devices with a tiny battery ...

Tablet computer for a child

Photo: gursesintour.com

If you are going to give a tablet to a child, then pay attention to:

  • the presence of a children's regime- the child does not need anything to go to "adult" sites, and the user interface of the device should be colorful and extremely simple.
  • accessories- the device will have to withstand increased loads, so a thick protective bumper will come in handy.

Pay attention to the possibility of the "growth" of the tablet along with the development of the child. Specialized models are great in terms of ease of access to children's content, but they don't have a lot of potential.

A modern tablet is a full-fledged computer device that supports many operations: touch, voice and pen input, combination and work with a variety of peripheral external devices. Devices are produced by many manufacturers, they differ in appearance, technical characteristics, capabilities, sizes. Therefore, before you go shopping, you need to clearly understand how the tablet will be used.

The device is equipped with a SIM card slot, which allows you to use the mobile Internet. For maximum convenience and savings, you should also pay attention to the choice of a mobile operator and optimal tariffication conditions. Read how to find a suitable tariff.

Manufacturer

Many companies are engaged in the manufacture of tablets. The products of some brands have achieved high performance, and they are in no way inferior to modern budget laptops, and in some parameters are ahead of them. The most popular are tablets from such manufacturers:

  1. Apple is releasing several variants of the iPad. Expensive and functional, they run on the iOS operating system, developed only for the products of this company.
  2. Samsung makes the largest variety of tablets. The most expensive models are equipped with a display using Super AMOLED technology with organic light-emitting diodes, which allows backlighting the screen without additional battery power consumption, providing good image quality even in bright sunlight.
  3. ASUS attracts attention with its affordable prices. A large number of different modifications, built-in communication modules 3G, Wi-Fi, LTE. The devices are available with a screen diagonal of 7.8.10 inches.
  4. Lenovo offers quite a few tablet models. We can talk about a good ratio of price and quality of products.
  5. Xiaomi is engaged in the production of budget devices with good technical characteristics.
  6. Microsoft focuses on professional use. Works with Windows system only.
  7. Huawei releases multifunctional devices that allow you to use your tablet not only for work, but also for high-quality video games.

Which brand to choose products, everyone decides independently. For more confidence, you can be guided by the manufacturer's rating.

Diagonal screen size and resolution

For reading books, watching movies, it is better to buy a product with a 10.1-inch display diagonally. For those who like to use an electronic device on trips and travels, a tablet with a 7-8-inch screen is suitable: cheaper and more compact. To obtain a good, clear, high-quality image, the display resolution should not be less than 1024x768 pixels. The optimal resolution for a 7-inch screen is 1280x800 pixels. For a larger screen, it grows quite naturally.

Operating system

There are three most common operating systems that support a tablet:

  1. Windows - launches all programs that can be used for a desktop computer. But the tablet device will be slow due to its characteristics.
  2. Android is a simple system developed by Google. It contains many interesting applications and media files. Easily connects to a PC (like a flash drive) and does not need to install additional applications to support the memory card.
  3. iOS - used for Apple devices, has a high operating speed. Memory card support requires additional application installation.

Some companies, such as Nokia, BlacBerry, develop their own operating systems for their products.

CPU

The newer it is, the better. For most users, its characteristics do not say anything. Considering that new items appear quite often, you should pay attention to its frequency. To watch videos, it should not be less than 1000 MHz.

Memory

Any tablet has RAM and permanent memory. All documents, photographs, music, and other programs are stored on a permanent resource that can be increased by using a memory card. But the RAM cannot be expanded, so you need to buy a device with a memory capacity of at least 2 GB.

Other possibilities

The presence of USB connectors, functions for connecting a keyboard, mouse, the ability to access the Internet via Wi-Fi, support for 3G, 4G are important indicators for many consumers.

Internet access is of key importance for tablet users, so choosing the right tariff plan will be important. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, everyone selects the tariffication conditions for their own needs. You can find out more about offers from different mobile operators with packet Internet traffic or unlimited network access on the tarif.expert website.
