Return Microsoft Office in a licensed (and even not quite licensed) form after standard recovery operating system laptop is always available. But how to return Microsoft Office, if in the future - a complete reinstallation of the computer, and the key and disk are gone?

Often, the user has to completely reinstall literally everything on his laptop. For example, when it's time to sell a laptop, and I really don't want to make the contents of its "memory" public. Or when a careless and / or inexperienced user who did not bother to put normal antivirus, and more often a computer wizard (more), who has to solve problems that have arisen later, is forced to eradicate malware so radical method. Or when ... In general, there are more than enough reasons to carry out the so-called resetting the laptop to factory settings, unfortunately.

However, this process, as you know, provides for a guaranteed loss of not only ordinary files - documents, photos, videos, music - but also all installed apps, i.e. toys, Skype, browser and a bunch of all programs Microsoft package Office, which is still not included as standard with the OS Windows any versions.

But, as practice shows, upon a complete reinstallation of the operating system of his laptop, the user first of all seeks to return Microsoft Office, especially if Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications were purchased with the laptop, that is, they were official and licensed.

So how do you get Microsoft Office back when you need to format your laptop and reinstall the OS? Everything is terribly simple:

Key
Ideally before complete reinstallation system, it is imperative to find and save the original key in a quality manner (it is also an activation code, it is also serial number, aka product key) of your copy of Microsoft Office - an alphanumeric combination, usually 25 characters long.

If this very key turned out to be lost or could not be found, then you can try to restore it directly from the laptop using special, but free software tools like BeLarc Advisor or Magical Jelly Bean KeyFinder.
If none of these utilities restore Microsoft key Office failed, then it is also worth trying to solve the problem with more serious tools. For example, Recover Keys is designed to search for keys from more than 6500 various programs. However, this utility costs about $25 (however, you can also sometimes download it at a discount).

But you can only restore the lost key BEFORE, and not after formatting the laptop and installing the operating system in a new way.

Installation disk
Further, in order to return Microsoft Office to a laptop, you will need installation media. This is usually a CD or DVD. But if you lost it too, or in your laptop optical drive design is not provided (or does not work), then you need to think about how to get setup files in a different way.

It's good that Microsoft remembers some of the problems of users who previously spent money on MS Office, so they will help solve the issue. Go to office.microsoft.com/backup, select the appropriate button and download. But only after you enter the key of your copy of the package to confirm that it is really yours. Otherwise, it will not be possible to officially return Microsoft Office here.

I do not often publish posts about such banal user things, but today I encountered an unpleasant situation when the winword.exe process hung tightly, crashed and did not save changes to the document being edited. I had to urgently deal with the functionality autosave in Microsoft Word 2010 and try to recover the document. I will add my research to the treasury of knowledge in the form of a ready-made manual for restoring unsaved versions of documents in MS Word 2010. In other programs of the MS Office package, autosave works in a similar way.

MS Office 2010 has an autosave feature that should periodically save copies of the document while editing a file. If you start Word after a crash, the system should in the panel Document Recovery display a list of documents that have not been previously saved. By clicking on the document name (contains the label in the name [ autosaved]), you can open the last automatically created copy.

If this window does not appear, you need to start Word and in the section File –> Info –> Manage Versions click on the button Recover Unsaved Documents.

A dialog box will open showing the directory where copies are stored. unsaved documents all MS Office applications.

Advice. AT Windows XP this directory is C:\Documents and Settings\ %username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Unsaved Files

AT Windows Vista / 7 / 8 /10 -C:\Users\ %username%

Where %username%- your account name.

As you can see, the files have the extension .asd are the files Word AutoRecovery. If the document is new and has not been previously saved by the user, its name will look something like this " Autorecoverysaveofdocument1.asd«.

Try to open such a document. If it does not open due to damage, you can try using the built-in file recovery function ( Open and Repair). Copies of unsaved documents are stored for 4 days, after which they are automatically deleted. Therefore, do not forget to save the recovered document through the menu File -> Save as.

When editing a document, Word at regular intervals (once every 10 minutes by default) saves current version file to your service directory. Document autosave settings are defined in the section file-> options -> save.

The autosave directory is also listed here.

  • For XP this is C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Word
  • For Windows 7andhigher- C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word

Advice. For centralized management autosave options Word documents 2010 on user computers, you can use the .

The autosave directory is set in the parameter AUTOSAVE-PATH(REG_EXPAND_SZ) branches HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\ (Product)\Options\AutoRecoverPath

(Product) need to be replaced with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

File saving frequency: set by a parameter (REG_DWORD type) in the branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\vpref

Possible parameter values (in minutes) from 0 to 120

This directory contains autosave files (*.asd), temporary files(*.tmp), and backup files(*.wbk). File names are of a service kind and are not suitable for navigating through document versions, therefore, in order to find a saved version of a document, it makes sense to open files with the date when the document was last modified.
