How to enable YouTube dark theme. How to enable dark theme in the YouTube app on iOS

Dark mode or "night" mode on YouTube provides convenient viewing of videos in the evening and at night. Thus, the strain on the eyes will be lower.

YouTube night mode can be activated not only on the website through a browser, but also in applications on Android, iPhone and iPad.

How to enable YouTube dark mode in the browser

Go to the official website youtube.com and log in to your account. After that, click on the icon of the logo you have chosen for your channel. A drop-down menu will open, where we click on the “Dark Theme” option.

Enable the checkbox "Night mode" and enjoy the changes.

By the way, you don’t have to log into your account; the function will be available anyway. It will be located in the menu with three dots.

Activate dark mode in YouTube is possible only on one PC, that is, the settings are not synchronized on other devices, which means you will have to change them on both your smartphone and tablet.

Disabling YouTube night mode is done in the reverse order.

How to Enable YouTube Dark Mode on iPhone and iPad

This type of device has an application, but even by accessing the site through a mobile browser, the user will still have access to this topic.

Enable YouTube Night Mode on Android

Now the night theme for YouTube applications is available on all devices, but if you don’t have it, then you should wait for an update, or look at the latest updates in the Play Market.

Useful:

If the function is not there, then the time has not come for your device. But there is a workaround...

In order to enable dark YouTube you will need a third-party Preferences Manager application. But the problem is that it requires root rights.

After launch, find YouTube in the list and launch youtube.xml. Next, enter the word in the search "dark", and in the results we change the option false on true. Don't forget to save everything.

Re-launch the application and check.

Everyone has probably noticed that in recent years more and more developers have been paying attention to creating black or dark themes for their applications and operating systems. Not long ago, macOS (OS X) introduced a Dark Theme that can be enabled in the settings. Its appearance is also expected in the iOS 11 operating system, the announcement of which will take place as part of WWDC 2017.

There is an opinion that dark modes are being introduced by developers to reduce eye strain in the evening. One cannot but agree with this, because the human eye does not experience such a strong load when viewing dark colors. Google took this point into account and decided to add support for a dark theme to the YouTube video service, which anyone can enable now. Even though the process of enabling dark mode in YouTube is quite simple, this can only be done if two conditions are met:

  • Use YouTube web version only
  • Use only Google Chrome web browser

How to activate night mode on YouTube

Step 1: Launch the Google Chrome web browser, then go to youtube.com and enable Chrome DevTools. You can do this using the hotkey combination:

  • On Windows: Ctrl + Shift + I.
  • On macOS: Option + Command + I.

Step 2: In the window that appears, go to the Console tab and enter the first of the three commands below:

document.cookie=”PREF=f6=4;path=/;domain=.youtube.com”;
document.cookie=»VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; path=/"
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE"

If nothing happened after executing the first command, you should try the second and third. Some of them will definitely work properly.

Step 3: If everything was done correctly, then after updating the YouTube page, when you click on your profile, the “Night mode” option will appear, which you need to switch to the “On” position. The YouTube interface will turn dark.

Google has just released an update to its YouTube app for Android that finally includes the long-awaited dark theme. Google first released the YouTube Dark theme for its website last year, but Android users haven't received an update in a while, while iOS users updated to the Dark Theme a few months ago.

The new Dark Theme for YouTube is included in YouTube app version 13.35, which is currently rolling out worldwide. If you haven't received the official update yet, you can install it manually by downloading the signed APK from APK Mirror.

If you're tired of being blinded by YouTube's white UI while watching videos, then follow the steps below to enable dark theme on YouTube.

Enable YouTube dark theme

  1. Install the latest YouTube update for Android
  2. Open the YouTube app
  3. You will be prompted to enable the new YouTube dark theme

Manually enable YouTube dark theme in settings

If you choose not to enable the new YouTube dark theme when prompted the first time you open the app after installing the update, follow the instructions below.

The other day we informed you that some Android device owners have the opportunity to enable a dark interface theme in the Youtube application. Would you also like to have it? Today we will tell you how to do this.

An instruction has appeared on the XDA-developers website that describes how to switch the latest version of the Youtube application for Android to a dark theme, and we decided to introduce you to it.

How to enable dark theme in Youtube for Android

In order to switch the Youtube interface for Android to a dark theme you will need:

The latest version of the application, which you can download from this Google Play Store page

A computer with the ADB application, which you can download along with Fastboot from the official Google website using the following links:

A smartphone or tablet with USB debugging mode enabled in the main system settings menu. How to find and enable it is described in.

Once you have all this prepared, you can begin:

1. Download the file YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.zip to your computer, unpack it and place the file there with the name YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.ab in the folder where you have the ADB program

2 . Connect your smartphone to your computer using a USB cable, then go to the folder with the ADB program on your computer and launch a Windows command line window (or Windows Power Shell, or Linux terminal, or macOS terminal). To do this, in Explorer, type cmd in the address bar and press Enter.

3 . In the command prompt window, run the command:

adb restore YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.ab

The command for Windows Power Shell, macOS Terminal and Linux is as follows:

.\adb restore YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.ab

(keep in mind that YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.ab is the name and extension of the file from the zip archive you downloaded in step 1)

4. The computer will display the message “Now unlock your device and confirm the restore operatoin”, and a window with the heading “Full recovery” will open on the screen of your smartphone:

5. Select the “RESTORE DATA” option by clicking on the corresponding button in the lower right corner of the window. Don’t worry: there will be no complete data recovery; only the Youtube settings related to the theme will be restored from the YouTubeDarkTheme_XDA.ab file.

A second or two after the start of the process, the window will close, and the following messages will appear on the smartphone screen: “Synchronization” “Recovery complete”.

6. All. you can launch Youtube: now the application will have a dark interface

Do you need a YouTube dark theme or just want to test it out? Then let's do it.

Recently, more and more news has been coming out on various Internet resources that Google is actively working on updating the user interface for the world's most popular video service, YouTube. You've probably heard about this too!

The service should get a new theme with dark colors. And today, a certain number of selected users have already gained access to the appropriate settings in their account and started testing.

The ultimate goal for the search giant Google, in my opinion, is to collect the most complete information about the functioning of a topic, both positive and negative, from a certain group of users. After this, I think, a final decision will be made to provide the ability to switch the design of their account to all users of the video service, without exception.

And for those who are not yet lucky (me too), I can recommend using a small hack that can now provide you with the necessary tools to switch the theme from light to the tested dark one and back.

I note that after I activated and tested the night mode for my YouTube account, without regret I returned back to the day mode, which turned out to be more familiar. But despite this, you must decide for yourself what you need.

Here's how to quickly access the feature you need in the Mozilla Firefox browser. The same can be done in any other modern web browser that comes with built-in developer tools (Chrome, Opera, etc.).

YOUTUBE DARK THEME

Launch your web browser, go to YouTube, sign in to your account, and then press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + K. In the Developer Console, issue the following command:

Document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE"

and press the Enter key.

Refresh your browser with F5 or Ctrl + F5 to reload all cached elements of the web page. Close the Developer Console and click on your profile icon in the upper right corner.

You'll see a new custom menu with a number of new options and the desired appearance mode switch. I don't think you need to explain further steps :).
