How to find out where the iphone is made. How to tell a "gray" iPhone from a "white" one

In order to deal with PCT models once and for all, we collected the differences for all current iPhones in one place.

PCT devices - products officially imported into the territory of Russia that have Rostest certificates

This means that all the declared functions of the device will work in the country, and the device will be covered by the official manufacturer's warranty.

The so-called "gray" devices, which were brought from Europe or the United States, can either fully work or be unsuitable for some services. There may be problems with the warranty of such devices.

Before buying an iPhone from your hands, in an online store and a specialized outlet for equipment, you should always check the model of the device.

How to find out iPhone model and country of origin

When you have decided on the origin of the model, you can understand the distinctive features of the device.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

In addition to these models, you can find models from Japan (A1779 and A1785). They do not turn off the shutter sound in the standard Camera application; there is a FeliCa module for payments and transfers via Apple Pay. Such models may not work correctly with domestic payment terminals.

There are other minor differences for models from certain countries or regions, more on that.

Models A1660 and A1661 have a faster LTE module. Under ideal conditions, the difference in speed can be up to 30%.

Models A1778 and A1784 are officially serviced on the territory of Russia. They will definitely not be a problem when contacting a service center.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

Models certified for sale in the Russian Federation have codes: A1688 and A1687... Other models A1633, A1700 A1634, A1699 are intended for sales in the United States and Asia.

There are some differences in the supported frequencies, however, they are not so critical. There is no real difference in the speed of mobile Internet, all models will work with domestic operators.

The only difference is in the official guarantee on the territory of the Russian Federation. Models A1688 and A1687 will be serviced under warranty in any authorized service center, but they may refuse to repair or replace other models.

iPhone SE

When buying this model, you need maximum attention. It's all about the supported LTE bands. Almost all domestic and many European operators operate on frequencies that are not supported by the American model.

For iPhone SE A1662 LTE will work only with some operators and not in all regions of the country. To avoid problems with LTE on the territory of Russia, choose models A1723 and A1724.

The situation with warranty service has not been canceled.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

PCT models have codes: A1586 and A1524... On sale you can find the following devices: A1549, A1589, A1522, A1593.

The situation is similar to the iPhone SE. Models A1549 and A1522 do not support LTE Band 38, MTS and Megafon operators work at this frequency. Such devices will be able to access the network only via 3G, or they will have to change the operator.

iPhone 5s

Here is the largest variety of models. PCT devices have a code A1457, there are also: A1453, A1518, A1528, A1530, A1533.

iPhone 5s A1533 Is a CDMA device. If you do not know what it is for, bypass such an iPhone.

A1530- a universal model with support for all possible frequencies. It will support LTE for all Russian operators, it will work with 4G networks almost anywhere in the world.

A1528- a device intended for sales in China. The GSM device has a simplified module and does not work with 4G LTE at all.

A1518 Is another Asian model. Of the frequencies we need, there is only Band 38. Some operators will have problems with LTE.

A1453 Of the LTE frequencies we are interested in, only Band 20 is supported, which means that there may be problems with high-speed connection in most regions for almost all operators.

Perhaps some readers will find the question of how to find out which country the iPhone is from will seem strange. After all, everyone knows the name of the "dad" of the famous device - Steve Jobs from the United States. The location of the "apple" headquarters is the state of California. Despite this, smartphones are assembled in numerous Chinese factories. Therefore, the birthplace of iPhone models is called the Celestial Empire. However, their markings are different.

The serial number of each smartphone reads data containing information regarding the color, the amount of the internal memory of the gadget. And also by the code (Part No.) it is easy to find out for which country the iPhone is made.

The sticker placed on the packaging of the smartphone informs about the phone model code (No. 1), the serial number (No. 2), the identifier of the mobile equipment IMEI (No. 3):

The same information is obtained from the "Settings" of the device or sales receipt upon purchase. We find the model number as follows:

  1. Open "Settings".
  2. Further - the section "Basic".
  3. "About this device":

Meaning of code symbols

Let's figure out what is contained in the model number:

And also the model code helps to understand and identify the type of charger socket that comes with the iPhone.

Our country has adopted "European" sockets, so it is recommended to purchase iPhones with European country codes, excluding the UK. The official sale of European models in Russia with the same code as in our country provides, moreover, warranty service for smartphones.

How to determine the country of origin of the iPhone

We turn again to the sticker on the package (see photo above), and under the number 2 we see the serial number of the device (Serial No.). It is he who will tell about the country that produced the miraculous telephone. A "serial", consisting of letters and numbers, is also found by a chain of actions in the device: "Settings" - "Basic" - "About this device".

Also, to find out all the information about the iPhone, without even unpacking it, the site https://sndeep.info/ru offers:

It is enough to enter the serial number or IMEI indicated on the package with the sticker.

The easiest way to find out where the iPhone is made is to look at the box:

When buying an iPhone in a store, information confirming the originality of the device is read on the packaging sticker according to the model number, "serial" and "IMEY". To be more confident, you need to get the phone, activate it and enter the "Settings" to check the data indicated on the box and in the "About this device" settings section.

Despite the immense popularity of iPhones, many potential buyers have no idea how to choose the right model for them. Indeed, in addition to gigabytes of memory, color and cost, it also matters for the cellular networks of which countries it is adapted.

Therefore, before buying a new or used iPhone, we strongly recommend that you find out in which country it was purchased (or was originally intended). If the seller does not have such data, you can independently find out this information by examining his service numbers. They appear on the back of the box, so even if the gadget is sealed in a factory film, you can check all the ins and outs of the device without opening it. In the case of a used iPhone, be sure to check the data indicated on the box and registered in the settings of the smartphone itself. You can find them in the corresponding menu.
You can also find the IMEI on the phone itself. The iPhone 6s, like older models, has the IMEI on the SIM card slot. For 6 or 6 Plus - on the back of the case.
Plus to all "break through"IMEImoreyou can dial a combination universal for all phones: * # 06 #. When this code is not detected, it is likely that they tried to "unlock" this iPhone (that is, untie it from a two-year contract with a specific foreign operator), and the attempt failed. Such a device cannot be used and there is no point in buying it. Now it will only fit as a donor of spare parts.

If at least one of the mentioned codes, spelled out in different places, does not match, then this iPhone has probably been repaired and it is not known how serious the damage was. It is definitely better to refrain from buying such a smartphone, even when its cost is very tempting.

Analyzing data

So, we found and checked the initial data. Now let's start examining the information hidden behind the codes.

First, we enter our serial number - F2LNCRWBG5QR into the search engine on the site - http://www.chipmunk.nl/cgi-fast/applemodel.cgi. As you can see, this iPhone was produced in 2014 at the Chinese factory Foxconn. This means that this is definitely an original device.

A used gadget can be additionally checked by connecting to a computer and launching a proprietary application - iTunes. Select iPhone in the list of devices and click the Browse tab. The program will display basic information about the smartphone.
And here is what a check on a special manufacturer's resource gives - checkcoverage.apple.com. Here you can enter both the IMEI and the serial number in the search field - the data issued by the system will look the same.
A green check mark next to the first item on the list is a guarantee that this iPhone was purchased legally. True, the term of one-year technical support for it has already expired, which means that the smartphone was purchased and activated more than a year ago. When buying 6s, the warranty must be valid, because iPhones of this series came out quite recently - in mid-September.

In addition, by the serial number, you can immediately identify a restored smartphone (or refurbished) - in this case, a prefix - 5K is added to the standard code. Such gadgets are often given an additional discount, and if the restoration work was carried out at the manufacturing plant, you should not be afraid. However, if such a gadget does not match the IMEI codes on the case, box and settings, it is possible that it was assembled illegally - from several broken or drowned original devices. There is no need to talk about the reliability of its work, and even more about the purchase.

It also makes sense to find out for the conditions of which country the selected iPhone is adapted, in order to understand whether such a gadget will work in your home country.

So, for example, models created for the markets of mainland America support 16 LTE networks, European or Asian models - up to 20 LTE, and these are practically all operators in the world.

So, in order to find out for the market of which country the phone was made, we are looking for the model / batch number (again, on the box or in the settings of the iPhone itself).
We are interested in the letters before the fraction at the end, in our example it is RU. It is not hard to guess what Russia is meant by. This means that this smartphone has been tested for compliance with the PCT requirements and will certainly work with all national operators. Use the table below to determine other country codes. Based on the table, considered as another example of an iPhone, with the LL postscript next to the model number, was created for sale in the American market. Finally, we note that automatic free services do not always correctly display information about the iPhone. But this does not mean that all the other methods described are also unreliable. For greater confidence, apply all possible verification methods to ensure that you exclude the possibility of buying a fake or a blocked (stolen, repaired) device.

Country of purchase and warranty

Finding the place of purchase is also important if the free warranty period has not yet passed and you are applying for it. We draw your attention to the fact that if the country of purchase and the place of origin of service do not match, you may be denied services, citing Apple's limitation of liability clause. Here is a copy from the official source: In other words, where you bought your iPhone, repair it there. It is clear that such a policy is associated with significant inconveniences for the user. Designed so that no one wants to disassemble and send the device overseas for a long time. Most likely, the buyer will take the gadget to a local service center, and for the same money, without unnecessary nerves, will promptly fix the breakdown.

Fair, not overpriced or understated. There should be prices on the Service website. Necessarily! without "asterisks", it is clear and detailed, where it is technically possible - the most accurate, final.

With the availability of spare parts, up to 85% of complex repairs can be completed in 1-2 days. Modular repairs take much less time. The website lists the approximate duration of any repairs.

Warranty and liability

Any repairs must be guaranteed. Everything is described on the website and in the documents. The guarantee is self-confidence and respect for you. A 3-6 month warranty is good and sufficient. It is needed to check quality and hidden defects that cannot be detected immediately. You see honest and realistic terms (not 3 years), you can be sure that they will help you.

Half of the success in Apple repair is the quality and reliability of spare parts, so a good service works with suppliers directly, there are always several reliable channels and your own warehouse with proven spare parts of current models so that you do not have to waste extra time.

Free diagnostics

This is very important and has already become a good form for the service center. Diagnostics is the most difficult and important part of the repair, but you should not pay a dime for it, even if you do not repair the device as a result.

Repair in service and delivery

A good service values your time and therefore offers free shipping. And for the same reason, repairs are carried out only in the workshop of the service center: correctly and according to technology, it can only be done at a prepared place.

Convenient schedule

If the Service works for you, and not for itself, then it is always open! absolutely. The schedule should be convenient so that you can be in time before and after work. Good service works both on weekends and on holidays. We are waiting for you and working on your devices every day: 9:00 - 21:00

The reputation of professionals consists of several points

So that you have an idea of what exactly you need.
They will try to solve the problem. In most cases, the description tells you what happened and how to fix the problem.

iPhone today can be called the most popular gadget. The world is experiencing a real "apple" boom - millions of people have already purchased a brand new device, and just as many dream about it. It is so famous for its quality and prestige. Some people need an iPhone solely to maintain the image of a rich person in the eyes of society. Such people buy it only on the Apple website or in a company store. Others, seeking to save money, acquire an "apple phone" through gray dealers. What is the difference, we will tell you later in the article.

How it all began

The country of manufacture of the iPhone is America, everyone knows that. The world famous company Apple and the legendary Steve Jobs have released and developed this gadget. They conceived it and brought it to life. What about batch production?

When the iPhone became popular, few people were interested in the country of origin. In Russia, they heard about him at the stage of the release of the fourth generation of the phone, when it was acquired by ex-President Dmitry Medvedev. And since then, for six years, the demand for a gadget has only been growing in the domestic open spaces.

In the meantime, the creators, in order not to lose demand, are releasing all new series of the "apple" gadget.

Chinese counterparts

After the iPhone 6 went on sale, the smartphone market was replenished with Chinese flagships. The quality of materials and technical equipment of the sixth series repeated the original model, but the price was more affordable. The owners of the American version looked disdainfully at the "Chinese", believing that the eastern factories could not collect anything worthwhile. And here they were wrong. Many models in this segment are commendable and have decent performance.

"IPhone 6": manufacturer

The country producing the gadget of this model is Taiwan. The company that assembles the iPhone 6 is Foxconn (Taiwan). Its enterprises are located in the PRC. And in addition to Apple products, it manufactures cameras for Canon, popular game consoles, mobile phones of a number of well-known brands. The company is also engaged in the production of motherboards both with its own logo and for the famous Intel.

Foxconn, founded back in 1974, began by making small plastic parts for televisions, and after fourteen years has grown to open its own factory in China. Now she has subsidiaries, she cooperates with large concerns for the production of electronics and components for her.

Why is the iPhone, the manufacturing country of which is geographically located in the other hemisphere, assembled in China? It's all about the scale. Foxconnt City is a whole town with a workforce of two hundred and thirty thousand people, whose work schedule is twelve hours a day, six days a week. There is a whole system with certain rules and working schemes. And in the United States there are simply not so many unemployed engineers. Studies show that it will take about a year until the required number of workers can be assembled, while in China it will take at least two weeks.

Small clarification

The iPhone (the manufacturing country of which is actually Taiwan, but with production facilities in China) cannot be called completely Chinese. There are also purely American components in it:

  1. Glass is produced in the Corning factory
  2. The software is developed by the data center
  3. Semiconductors are manufactured by a factory in Texas.

How to determine the country of manufacture of the iPhone?

If you bought your smartphone not from an authorized dealer and after reading you are interested in its origin, information about the device will help. You need to find on the iPhone packaging. If suddenly you did not find it there, refer to the phone menu. In the "Settings" section (the "General" tab) there is a sub-item "About the device", it contains a number, usually consisting of numbers and four letters.

To check the country of origin, it is important for us to remember the last two letters. The Internet can easily find a list that will decipher all their combinations. For example, if the number is MC352LL, then LL indicates that the phone came from the USA. The Chinese copy will be given the designation CH.

Previously, it was believed that the IMEI code helps to calculate the country where the iPhone was produced. For this, a special service was used, where the device code of fifteen characters was entered. As the results showed, the information about the region contained in the IMEI differs from the information of the batch number of the iPhone. In this regard, Numberingplans will help to determine only the make and model of the phone, it is useless to identify the country of origin.

Budget devices

As already mentioned, the iPhone (the country of origin of which is Taiwan or China) is a very high-quality copy, since these countries are directly involved in the production of the original. Therefore, there are many Chinese, but well-made "apple phones". Outwardly, most of the replicas are practically indistinguishable from the Apple original. If you just want to show off your iPhone, then hardly anyone will catch you in the substitution without holding it in their hands.

But they can issue a copy:

  • materials that are of lower quality and cost in relation to the American version;
  • name - some Goothone i5s, for example;
  • the inner shell of the smartphone, which is noticeably weaker than the real one and runs on the Android platform stylized for iOS;
  • external arrangement of the device (quality of plastic, metal and glass);
  • camera quality.

Finally

How to check the country of manufacture of an iPhone on UnLock? Many countries sell iPhones with UnLock for specific phone carriers. This makes it impossible to use the device in another country. Until the summer of two thousand and eleven, knowing the name of the country for which the gadget was produced, anyone could determine whether the phone was officially jailbroken or not. Now this is difficult due to the launch of Apple devices with the Factory Unlocked category, which was previously considered strictly locked under a certain operator. Some mobile communication companies that officially sell Apple products began to provide services for unblocking (each on its own terms).

To be sure that your gadget will fully function where you live, the first thing you need to know when buying: where did the iPhone come from (country, manufacturer) and whether it is designed for a specific mobile provider.
