How to increase the speed of the processor. How to speed up a slow Windows computer

Not all entrepreneurs use exclusively Apple technology to perform business tasks - many still prefer Windows personal computers. Business Insider published a material in which they listed 10 common ways to speed up the functioning of a PC, in addition to reinstalling the OS.

It is necessary to regularly “clean up” application files

There are a fairly large number of programs that help you find and delete temporary files created by various applications. Over time, a large amount of such data can accumulate, which slows down the computer.

Turn off optional visual effects and animations

Although beautiful widgets and effects make using the system more pleasant, they slow down the device. For example, in Windows 7, the Aero theme consumes a considerable amount of resources. Instead, you should use standard themes with a simplified style.

Viruses can slow down your computer

Malicious software and viruses can run in the background, performing the tasks the attackers need and at the same time consuming system resources. In order to minimize the risk of such a situation, you should always use full (and not trial) versions of antivirus software - "trials" often sin with a large number of notifications, which is very annoying and prompts you to turn off the antivirus. A good option is the free Microsoft Security Essentials product. After installing the antivirus, you should make sure that its settings include regular computer scans and downloading updates.

There is not much memory

Delivering RAM is a safe and easy way to speed up your computer. There are special services to help determine the right type of memory suitable for a particular device.

SSD drives are faster

This method helps to speed up the work of any computer in general, and not just PC. Traditional hard disk drives (HDDs) are slower than solid state drives (SSDs). In addition, there are no moving parts in such drives, which allows you to make your computer work more quietly. SSD drives are more expensive than standard drives, but their prices are gradually decreasing.

A large number of applications with autorun slow down the work

Often, when turned on, the computer cannot “recover itself” for quite a long time and runs slower than usual - the reason for this may be a large number of programs that start when the operating system starts.

To call the menu with which you can manage this list, use the msconfig command - you need to drive it in the search for the Start menu. However, you should not remove unfamiliar programs without first studying their purpose in search engines - they can be "system" and affect the correct operation of the computer.

It is worth manually controlling the most "heavy" applications

Using the standard task manager tool (taskmgr.exe), you can see a list of currently running processes and how much resources each of them consumes. Using the task manager is trite, but effective. For example, some browsers create separate processes for each open tab, if the user is used to opening many tabs, then among those that are no longer needed, there may be a memory-consuming one. Disabling the process of this tab in the task manager will result in an error on this page, but the tab itself will not be closed and you can return to it at any time.

Clearing the browser cache

If your computer starts to run slowly when you visit web pages, then the problem may be with your browser and not with your device or operating system. Clearing the cache often helps speed up your browser.

Defragmentation speeds up your computer

Even the official Microsoft website offers to resort to defragmentation to speed up the PC. Indeed, a high degree of file fragmentation leads to the fact that the hard drive begins to perform additional actions that result in a general slowdown in the device.

Windows has a built-in disk defragmenter that is used to organize information so that the disk can work more efficiently. It is possible to start defragmentation manually, as well as set the exact start time for this process. At the same time, there are recommendations according to which defragmentation harms SSD drives, so you should not do it for solid state drives (although

Some time after installing the operating system, situations may arise when the computer starts to work noticeably slower than before. This can be due to the operation of individual programs or games, or a drop in performance in general.

There are several reasons leading to this effect, they should be divided into two large groups.

  1. The hardware part can not cope with the increased load. For example, a new computer game or an installed animation editor requires a lot of resources. This problem is solved both by hardware improvement (replacing the video card, the central processor, increasing the size of the RAM), and by increasing the performance using special utilities for "overclocking" the system. In the latter case, it is possible to use standard settings - through the "BIOS Setup" menu.
  2. During the operation of the operating system, a fair amount of "garbage" has accumulated on the hard drive, too many programs are running in the background, the Windows registry needs to be cleaned. All this can greatly "slow down" the work.

For the initial determination of system performance, a small program SiSoftware Sandra Lite is useful, in addition to the commercial version, a lightweight, free one is available. It is quite enough for a general assessment.

  1. The program needs to be installed and launched - a window will appear with icons indicating groups of real and virtual devices present in the system.

  2. By double-clicking on the "System Information" icon, we get a detailed summary of the hardware characteristics: the model of the motherboard, processors, video cards, RAM, and others. On less powerful computers, data collection will take some time.

  3. A window with characteristics will appear. At the bottom there will be a list with recommendations.

The same actions can be done with all elements of the computer. The data obtained will help determine the next steps to optimize your computer.

Upgrade strategies

There are several solutions regarding PC acceleration.

  1. Complete replacement. The newest computer toy or program may require such hardware configuration changes that it is logical to build a new system unit. And the old one - try to sell for at least a little money.

  2. If possible, then reduce the settings of the program (game) to medium or minimum. This, of course, is a temporary measure, in 1-2 years you will still have to solve the problem of obsolete components.

  3. Partial replacement parts. Suitable if the computer as a whole has sufficient power, but one of its elements cannot withstand the load from the new software (games). Most often, such devices are a central processing unit or a video card. In some cases, to speed up, it is enough to add RAM modules.

  4. In some cases, the situation can be saved by installing a previous version of the OS. This is true for outdated computers or laptops, which, for example, will perfectly “digest” Windows XP, and on Windows 7 or 10 they will be pretty “slow down”.

Advice! With a lack of RAM, upgrading the remaining components may not give much effect. Therefore, you should start improving your PC with it. Before upgrading the memory, you should make sure that the RAM limit for this motherboard will not be exceeded, otherwise the excess memory will not be available to the system.

The search for the “guilty” part of the slowdown is made by comparing the recommended system requirements of software developers with the actual characteristics of the component.

During the upgrade, do not forget about the physical cleaning of the system unit. Dust that has been accumulating for years on PC boards and heatsinks, inside the power supply, does not have the best effect on performance, so it must be removed.

Another additional method is the "overclocking" of the processor (or video card). The fact is that the factory settings of the motherboard suggest the presence of a margin of "strength" in terms of the clock frequency of the system bus by at least 15-20%. This is done to ensure the stability of the system.

Most CPUs are easily overclocked by up to 20%, which is a noticeable increase even when the OS is loaded.

"Overclocking" CPU and video cards

The simplest is to increase the clock frequency with the help of utilities, most manufacturers of motherboards and video cards provide them along with drivers or post them on official websites.

But the fact is that the settings will work only after the OS is loaded, and some systems (for example, Linux, *BSD) are not supported by the utilities.

Attention! Applying settings related to changes in clock speeds and CPU multiplier may result in system inoperability.

Adjusting the BIOS Setup settings will allow you to immediately evaluate the transformations that have taken place: for example, the system will boot faster.

Advice! For stable operation of a PC with an increased CPU clock speed, more efficient cooling may be required: replacing the radiator and cooler with more powerful ones or introducing a liquid cooling system, the most advanced at the moment.

Changing settings through BIOS Setup

In this case, you need to reduce the frequency of the RAM to avoid errors.

Advice! If, after another change in the parameters, the computer stops turning on, you need to turn off the power to the PC system unit, remove the battery that powers the BIOS chip, it is located on the motherboard, and put it back in place. After that, the settings will be reset to the factory settings.

Important! It is strongly not recommended to disable CPU thermal protection in the BIOS settings. In case of overheating, it may fail. If you are not sure about the correctness of your actions, then the most reliable way is to use the utilities in Windows.

Video cards are accelerated using the appropriate software. For example, NVidia cards can be "overclocked" using the Nvidia Inspector program.

To overclock a video card using Nvidia Inspector, you should:

Asus devices on Nvidia chips are similarly "overclocked" by the GPUTweak utility.

Five ways to increase PC performance

Method 1

You can open the Services tab in the same msconfig utility. Here is a list of system services that run simultaneously with the system and occupy RAM.

In order to avoid problems with disabling system programs and prevent unstable operation of the OS, it is recommended to check the box "Do not display Microsoft services".

Some of the other services can be disabled. For example, the "Remote Registry" service, which usually runs by default, is not needed. Some installed programs can also prescribe their own services in the "Services", you need to understand in detail which of them can be safely disabled.

An incomplete list of services that can be safely disabled:

  • print manager if the printer is not in use;
  • tablet PC input service;
  • Windows Media Center Scheduler;
  • Bluetooth support;
  • Windows Search;
  • remote desktop services;
  • Windows archiving.

A more complete list of services that can be deactivated can be easily found on the Internet.

Method 2

Set the optimal swap file size. This is a place on the hard disk reserved by the system for temporary storage of files, in aid of RAM when its size is not enough. That is, it is a kind of addition to the OP.

  1. To change, go to the "Control Panel", item "System and Security".

  2. In the window that appears on the right, click on the link "Change settings", thereby activating the next window "System Properties".

  3. In it, select the "Advanced" tab. Under the first item “Performance”, click on the “Settings” button.

  4. We activate the tab "Advanced" and in it we press the button "Change" (item "Virtual memory").

  5. This last window sets the size of the paging file (virtual memory).

    On a note! The item "Automatically select the size of the paging file" is only suitable for office PCs. The best option would be to set the range by checking the "Specify size" box and filling in both fields: "Initial size" and "Maximum size".

The choice of a specific amount of virtual memory in modern PCs depends on the maximum load of running programs.

It's easy to find out:

On a note! It is best to set a certain average value, selected experimentally, as both a minimum and a maximum. A fixed size is more convenient, since the hard disk space will be hard-reserved by the system.

Method 3

Method 4

During the operation of the system, files are distributed in pieces throughout the entire space of the hard disk (fragmented). Reading them slows down as a result of the wandering of the magnetic head of the "hard drive" (HD) over the surface of the disk. To optimize the work, you need to overwrite the files, collect them in order. This is called defragmentation.

If possible, it is better to use the Diskeeper program, it is paid, but there is a trial version.

The regular Windows defragmenter is activated from the "My Computer" window.

The system will analyze the disk and, if necessary, defragment it. Repeat the action with the rest of the logical drives.

Advice! When reinstalling the OS, you need to create at least two logical drives: for the system and for other data (programs, documents, videos, etc.).

Method 5

Use of technology ReadyBoost. Windows supports the use of flash drives to speed up the system. On low-powered and medium-sized PCs, it gives some performance increase. Especially with many tabs or windows open in the browser in Windows, a slight acceleration of loading.

The work of ReadyBoost is that the flash drive begins to work as an intermediary between the RAM and the hard drive. Part of the OP cache is dumped on the flash memory, and due to the fact that the data exchange between the solid state drive and the OP is higher than in the combination of the OP - "hard drive", a faster data exchange is obtained.

But flash memory has a limited number of read-write cycles, so it will work less in this mode than in normal mode.

There are restrictions:

  • for the Fat32 file system - up to 4 GB of memory can be used;
  • in NTFS - up to 32 GB;
  • in total, up to 256 GB (8x32 GB) can be used for ReadyBoost mode.

Setting the computer shutdown timer

There are two easy ways to shut down, restart, or put your PC to sleep.

On a note! Where 300 is the time in seconds. After 5 minutes, the computer will turn off.

The second way is related to writing a whole script.

You can use keys (we put instead of / s):

Several Windows 10 Programs You Can Uninstall Right Now

  1. Metro apps take up hard drive space and their functionality is questionable.
  2. Software installed with drivers. For example, laptops are often sold already with an OS, most additional programs from manufacturers can be safely removed.
  3. Internet Explorer is not needed. There are many browsers for every taste.
  4. Windows Media Player is not needed. There is a K-Lite Codec Pack for watching movies and a lot of players for listening to music.
  5. Windows Games. They also take up space.

PC acceleration to improve fps in PC games

Too low frames per second (FPS) can be caused either by excessive system load or outdated PC components.

Before proceeding with the replacement of components, it is recommended to try the following methods:

  • close all other programs, including those running in the background;
  • update video card drivers;
  • try experimenting with the settings of the video card and the settings of the game itself.

Sometimes games downloaded from suspicious sources may not work correctly. Licensed editions must be purchased.

If all else fails, then it's time to think about upgrading the video system.

Video - 5 ways to speed up your computer

Hello, friends!

Today I will tell you about how to increase the performance (speed up) of the computer using the example of some settings (optimization) of the windows 7 operating system. I have been working on my computer for the fourth year, and by today's standards it is certainly outdated. Therefore, you have to deal with various Windows settings, disabling unnecessary components of this operating system.

In this article, I will talk about the main steps that will significantly speed up the computer with the Windows 7 operating system. And I will also say a few words about a wonderful utility called "TuneUp Utilities", which I have been using for several years, and which greatly optimizes the operation of the Windows 7 operating system and speed up your computer.

I want to draw your attention to the fact that it is not necessary to perform all the actions presented below. Some settings may not be valid for your daily tasks, and stopping some services may cause various problems. Therefore, before disabling and configuring anything, make sure that this action does not entail any restrictions.

However, disabling just a few unnecessary features, or changing some of the settings, can help you significantly speed up the loading and operation of Windows 7.

I also draw your attention to the fact that noticeable improvements in the speed of Windows 7 will be clearly visible only if you use "outdated" computers. If you have a new computer with great specs, you probably won't see much of a performance boost.

We increase the performance (speed up) the computer. Windows 7 Boot and Speed Optimization

1. The very first and IMPORTANT advice will be an event related to cleaning the operating system from various debris

Before performing the following steps for Windows optimizations and speed up your computer, remove all unnecessary programs (especially games) and files. Clear your desktop of shortcuts, files and folders, leaving only the essentials. The fact is that having a large number of any objects on the desktop is highly undesirable, since they consume a lot of system resources.

The ideal Windows operating system desktop should look something like this:

To remove unnecessary software and games, I recommend that you use some utility, for example, which I will discuss below. If you are not familiar with this program, be sure to read this article, TuneUp Utilities will help you not only correctly remove unnecessary software, but also clean the system of other debris, optimize Windows and speed up your computer.

Every time you turn on the computer, certain programs are automatically loaded, which are very often not needed there. For example, some programs add a module that monitors for new updates and prompts us to download updates when they appear.

We do not always need this, and if you decide to speed up your computer, then you need to remove the launch of such applications from startup.

In order to get to the startup menu of programs, click "Start" - "Run".

In the window that appears, type "msconfig" in the line and click the "OK" button. After that, the "System Configuration" window will appear, in which there is a "Startup" tab.

If you do not have the "Run" item in the "Start" menu, then right-click on the Windows taskbar, and select "Properties" from the context menu. In the window that appears, in the "Start Menu" tab, click the "Settings" button. In the window that opens, find the item "Run command" and check it, then apply the changes.

After you get to the startup menu of programs, then uncheck the boxes that are opposite unnecessary applications, and then apply the changes.

Some changes may require you to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

I want to note that it is necessary to leave the operating system, drivers and antivirus in autoload, all other programs can be removed, but this is at your discretion.

After removing unnecessary programs from startup, the system will boot faster, in some cases, Windows boot speed will increase significantly.

3. Disable unnecessary Windows services

One of the most effective ways to speed up your computer is to disable unused (unnecessary) operating system services. Windows OS has a huge number of services enabled by default, which require a large amount of system resources to run. Many of them can be disabled without losing functionality or compromising system security. For example, if your computer does not have a printer, you can disable the corresponding services responsible for its operation. Because we don't need them! Is not it?

This event can significantly increase the performance of your OS! Be sure to pay attention to this.
You can use the following method to disable services.

Launch all the applications that you use in your daily work, go to the "Services" tab (it is located in the "System Configuration" menu, next to the "Startup" tab, which I wrote about a little higher), find in the list the services that have in the column "Status" has the status "Stopped".

Then disable them. Just be careful, some services may be needed.

What services can be disabled to optimize Windows 7?

WWAN auto setup– in the event that you do not have CDMA or GSM modules, this service can be safely disabled
Adaptive brightness control - this service adjusts the brightness of the screen in the presence of a light sensor, if there is no such sensor, disable it.

Windows Firewall- Designed to protect your computer. It is recommended to use third-party applications for these purposes (for example, Comodo, KIS, DrWEB, etc.).

Windows Defender- Disable, completely unnecessary service!

Program Compatibility Assistant Service- this service can be disabled, only in case of program incompatibility, you will need to manually set the parameters, which happens not so often.

WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service- can be turned off.

Diagnostic Policy Service- practically not needed.

smart card- if you do not use such cards, then turn it off.

Remote Registry- Be sure to turn it off for security reasons.

Security Center- reminds you of various events such as lack of antivirus, outdated updates, etc. Turn it off if you don't want to see them.

The list, of course, turned out to be not very capacious, in fact, there are much more services that can be disabled. I would be grateful if you add to this list in the comments to this article.

In addition, among the standard services will appear additional services of third-party programs that are installed on your PC, you can also disable them.

4. Increase the paging file

The swap file is a space on your computer's hard drive where the system copies files that do not fit in RAM. The system accesses the paging file for prompt loading of data and constantly uses them. If this space is too small, then the computer will "slow down".

In order to increase the size of the paging file, go to the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel", the view of which is better to switch to "Small Icons".

Then select: system - advanced system settings. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Options. In the "Performance Options" window that appears, in the "Advanced" tab, click the "Change ..." button. The "Virtual memory" window will appear, in which uncheck the box "Automatically choose the size of the paging file" and specify the size manually for each disk (if there are several in the system).

It is desirable to specify the same minimum and maximum sizes. The size of the paging file is more expedient to choose 2-4 times the amount of RAM installed on the computer.

5. Change visual effects

Windows 7 has an Aero interface that consumes a significant amount of computer resources and in some cases slows it down.

By disabling Aero and other visual effects, you can achieve some increase in computer performance.
Visual effects can be disabled in the "Performance Options" window, which I wrote about in the previous paragraph, in the "Visual Effects" tab.

There are three settings here:

- provide the best view;

- ensure the best performance;

— special effects (completely manual settings).

Adjust these settings to your liking and apply the changes.

6. Disable indexing of hard drives

To do this, go to "My Computer", select any hard drive. Press the right mouse button, in the menu that appears, click "Properties".

After that, a window will open in which uncheck the box "Allow the contents of files on this disk to be indexed in addition to file properties" and apply the changes.

7. Use ReadyBoost Technology

ReadyBoost technology, included with Windows 7, is designed to speed up your computer. As I noted above, if there is a shortage of RAM, the system uses the paging file, which is located on the hard disk (HDD). HDDs are mechanical, slow devices, ReadyBoost allows you to use USB flash drives or memory cards to store this temporary data.
To activate the above technology, connect a USB flash drive or memory card, go to the “Properties” menu of this device. In the "ReadyBoost" tab, set the required amount of memory, and apply the changes.

All these simple activities will help you significantly optimize Windows and speed up your computer.

Here are a few more tips to help you keep your computer in top condition so it runs fast, lasts long, and doesn't let you down.

How to take care of your computer?

1. Regularly defragment your disk. Over time, the files on the computer's hard drive become fragmented (in simple words, they are written randomly on the surface of the disk), which slows down the speed of receiving data.

The standard defragmenter is located among the utilities (Start - Programs - Utilities - Disk Defragmenter). I recommend using this tool from time to time.

2. Occasionally clear disks of accumulated unnecessary information. The standard Disk Cleanup program is also located in the System Tools section.

3. Regularly clean the registry. When deleting various files and applications, various garbage can accumulate in the Windows system registry, which slows down the performance of the system. To clean the registry, you can use third-party software, for example, CCleaner (you can download).

4. Once every six months, clean the internal elements of the system blog from accumulated dust.

This is especially true before the summer heat. If you do not clean the computer from dust, then its elements will overheat significantly, which can lead to a computer freeze and even damage to its devices.

5. Use a quality anti-virus program for your computer, such as .

In conclusion of this post, I want to say a few words about a cool program designed to increase the performance (acceleration) of a computer and keep it in excellent condition.

A program that I have been using for several years. It allows you to find problems in the computer and fix them. Everything that I wrote in this article about increasing computer performance is implemented in TuneUp Utilities.

This program is updated annually and today is called TuneUp Utilities 2012.

Here are its main functions:

- increase in computer performance;

- Internet connection optimization;

— removal of programs;

- Disk Defragmenter;

- Full configuration of the Windows operating system;

- cleaning and defragmenting the system registry;

— recovery of deleted files;

- customizing the appearance of the operating system;

- deleting files without the possibility of their recovery;

- setting up hidden parameters of Windows OS and much more.

The functionality of TuneUp Utilities is very rich in various possibilities!

If you have not yet tried TuneUp Utilities in action, then I recommend that you install this program and start using it, and then the performance (speed) of your system will always be on top.

Unfortunately, this software is not free, but finding a program on the Internet is not a problem.

If you do not know where to download programs, then I recommend that you read my article "". You can find a lot of useful things on torrent trackers.

How to optimize your computer?

Very easy and simple! This guide will help you set up and optimize your computer, clean your computer of various debris, remove viruses and reliably protect your PC, speed up Windows and boot, get rid of errors and freezes, and much more...

That's all for me. I hope my post was helpful to you. Love your computer, take care of it, optimize Windows performance and then he will delight you with flawless and fast work.

    A useful article, I didn’t know much, thanks 🙂 Alexander, can you explain point 6 in more detail, why is this being done?

    Good recipes!

    You can also use special programs, for example Auslogics Boot Speed - in it all these parameters are clearly arranged in sections and configured in a few clicks without getting into the inside of the system

    What is TuneUp Utilities, what is Auslogics Boot Speed - this software is not free. And not cheap! TuneUp Utilities for 3 computers costs $65. Both programs cost about the same.

    Well, there is also a FREE program similar to these: Advanced Sistem Care 7. I used it myself. She helped me personally

    The 2010 version of the program costs 50 euros, Sanya, but how much does 2012 cost?

    I use Auslogics BoostSpeed, I must say that TuneUp Utilities is quite good, I used the magazine version for a while without updating the program itself - everything suited me, then experiments began, I tried other products 😀 ...

    Thanks Sasha, the post is interesting - and I advise you to add Emsisoft Anti-Malware to Kasperych.

    There is another similar program called CCleaner. But TuneUp Utilities, on your recommendation, looks even more functional, I will definitely apply it on my XP system And damn it, it's time for me to get a new computer 😀

    And Casper does not slow down the computer? I once tried to put it, it was terrible. Now Doctor Web - I don’t notice him at all

    As it were, windows indexing is carried out in order to know where which file lies. Absolute analogy with search engines. Only if you disable indexing, the system will take longer to search for the file, as it will go through all the files. And if you turn it on, then periodically Windows will go through the system and “index” files ... In principle, it does not create a special load, but maybe I often use the search, because there are thousands of thousands of files on my computer that are always needed .. .

    Although, they say that the first step in speeding up Windows is disabling search indexing... And often that's enough. 🙂

    thanks for the article - lately the laptop has become very slow

    Viktor Bochenkov, I also use the СCleaner program.

    Alexander, thanks for the great post.

    Svetlana, I can advise you to defragment your laptop. Only the built-in tool. If you haven't done it yet, you'll be happy with the results.

    Volodya, what do you mean by built-in tool. I know. that defragmentation speeds up the work of any computer, but I have no place for a regular built-in one. My daughter recently just reinstalled Windows on her laptop - it also helps a lot.

    By the way, they asked about Kaspersky - as a regular user I can say it doesn’t slow down - it was a very long time ago when it slowed down

    Cool. But sorry for PS only. I thought about buying myself a mac. 😈

    Victor, Siklisha is far behind the above program, CCleaner is a janitor (cleaner).

    Alexander (AKart), if you install Kaspersky, it's better than 2010, the 2011 version was being developed for a long time and now, to put it mildly, they don't like it 🙂

    Nice, informative and comprehensive article! Thanks for the advice - I'll definitely use it. In general, lately I have “scored” something on the computer ... We should fix it 🙄

    At my stationary computer today, the power supply burned out (I HOPE that it was the power supply. And not the whole computer), today I switched to a netbook ... oooh, horror !!! I will optimize according to the article. Even though I know all this, I can still miss something. and here everything is in front of your eyes!

    Alexander, another question: If the processor or mother burns out, would the computer react somehow when turned on? Now, when I press the button, I have zero emotions at all, which is why I sin on the power supply ...

    Alexander Bobrin

    ValeronVoronin I think that if the mother burns down, there will be no signs of life. My blog was on fire, you press the power button - silence. Once the mother bought a defective one, the computer turned on (the fans worked and the diode was on), but there was nothing on the screen, and there were no sounds. And so, if one of the devices does not work, then the sounds should be. Most likely you have a food blog, but I don’t exclude the mother either - write back later.

    I have a license at work, I haven’t earned a home license yet, I’m downloading the keys on the site. And so he is not broken. It's just that there are broken versions, so there may be problems with them. And if you just download the keys for a license, then everything will be fine.

    Yeah, tomorrow I’ll go to a store with a block, I’ll ask if they can check so that the money doesn’t burn empty, then I’ll write. It’s also a pity to spend money on antivirus software, but when I earn money on the Internet, then I’ll buy it.

    So I don’t understand, on which site are you downloading the license keys? In the same place, you download a demo version for 30 days and that's it, then it doesn't seem to be updated? Or am I missing something?

    Sasha, sometimes a kei lasts for months, sometimes a day doesn’t pass, as it is cut. It is best to download the archive of keys, there are about a thousand of them. 🙂

    I have been using the license for a long time - no problems

    I downloaded TuneUp Utilities 2012 in order to delete the folder (empty), which is restored every time after deletion after the system boots. I tried to remove the specified utility several times in different ways. It still recovers after a reboot. 🙁

    INSTALL UNLOCKER 1.9 TO REMOVE SUCH FOLDERS.

    100% but Unlocker 1.9 will not help. The same will happen as with TuneUp Utilities. This is probably a virus imitating the system folder, and Windows restores it.

    Alexander please help me now the games do not start what to do thanks in advance.

    I do not quite agree with: “For example, if your computer does not have a printer, then you can disable the corresponding services responsible for its operation. Because we don't need them! Is not it?" The fact is that a printer may appear, and a virtual printer - I sometimes use it. Also other services, for example, I turned off everything that I don’t use now, and in half a year I’ll buy something, install it, but it won’t work and I don’t remember that I once turned off some services (try to find which one else you need to turn on) . It seems to me that the game is not worth the candle, which applies to services, in standby mode they consume very little memory and about zero processor resources, I dabbled with this - zero effect.

    With point 4. I do not just disagree - this is complete nonsense. Firstly, by default, Windows has a virtual memory value of quite a decent size, and I only once in ten years of work for a PC did not have this value, but even then Windows simply offers to increase the amount of memory and that's it. Moreover, I suggest you conduct an experiment - turn off virtual memory altogether, for me personally and for my sister, this doubled the speed of the entire system. My movie from an old 80GB IDE disk began to be copied at a speed of 70-30Mbps. On sat2 a little higher. Just think about what virtual memory is and it will become clear to you that this is the worst evil from microsoft, if you are interested in this topic, I can explain to you in more detail why.

    I did everything according to the points, I thought it would fly. Stupid, like stupid ((

    Please tell me, if I purchase a license for the tune up program, how many computers can I put it on?

    I installed an agt3-25sat-64g solid-state hard drive, a system with a bunch of programs loaded in 10 seconds. Installing windows 7 on a computer took 8 minutes. If you want your computer to work quickly, buy a 64 gig solid-state hard drive, put windu 7 on it and you will understand what speed is. Before switching to these disks, read the reviews on the Internet. The disks are now not expensive, less than 2 thousand, it is connected by a cable.

    Thank you very much helped a lot.

    An excellent article, it is indicated both about autoloading and about extra services. If you don’t invest in hardware, then everything you need is indicated, and if you have a budget, then I recommend buying an ssd, download speeds will increase significantly.

    Not bad! And everything is clear! But it's only written for W7... not... it will be easier in XP... but the article is still useful! If possible, I'll throw it on my site with a link to you!?

    Interesting tips, it will be necessary to increase your computer performance, I have windows 7 kokras, I will do everything like you.

    I think that in order to avoid various problems, for example, the slow speed of the computer, you need to initially buy (and not spare money on it) a computer with good performance. The miser pays twice, that's it.

    For a computer to be productive, you do not need to buy an expensive one. These are store myths. Previously, all programs worked fine on the Pentium 120.

    I understand that now the requirements for programs have become greater. But office work doesn't require a $200 gaming PC with a graphics card.

    The main thing is at least 4GB of RAM, and sit on the Internet less so that you don’t pick up viruses.

    I was pleased with the fan, it has not been cleaned for three years, no less.

    Yes, everything that a programmer needs is cool and to the point.

    Very good article.

    The only thing I would not advise is to clean the radiator every six months.

    This operation is very painful for the computer and any careless movement

    may damage the processor. And it costs the most in the system unit.

    Indexing by the way loads the processor by 30 percent when it starts

    and this service is started even when you do not search on the computer.

    Considering that everything is 100 percent in the processor, disabling indexing will greatly affect performance.

    8 minutes is a lot, just catastrophically long for a computer.

    My computer boots in half a minute.

    thanks good tips helped

    useful article, especially for noobs like me))) thanks to the Author

    Too bad I didn't read this earlier. Due to the fact that I did not know how to properly care for the computer, especially that it needs to be cleaned every six months, my laptop burned out after 3 years ...

    For fast computer work, I just disabled autoload and disabled several services, the computer is working fine. The main thing is not to litter the computer with a large number of programs.

    I downloaded TuneUp Utilities 2012 in order to delete the folder (empty), which is restored every time after deletion after the system boots. I tried to remove the specified utility several times in different ways. It still recovers after a reboot.

    I did as you advised, but after a while it ceased to be displayed when a 0.5 GB removable disk was connected. Tell me what can be done? I will follow the comments. Thanks.

    Disabling unnecessary services in Windows requires a certain literacy, which the vast majority do not have. Plus, it's a dangerous job. I get out of the situation by taking screenshots of all services, that's how they are in your photo. It turns out several screenshots. Then I turn off some services that seem unnecessary to me and also take screenshots. In case of failure, one by one, focusing on the screenshots, I connect the services.

    According to the mind, if you really need performance, then you first need to choose an OS. Windows itself is a braking system, no matter how you accelerate it. Windows is not used anywhere for scientific calculations: Linux is on the ISS. The best solution would be to install two operating systems on a computer to solve different problems.

    Great guide! Really helped))) Thank you friend

    This article helped a lot!

    Thank you very much...

    Very helpful article, thanks a lot.

    I used your program, but it also has a minus - it also eats performance because it constantly works. There is an alternative to Win.Tools.net

    It cleans better, removes programs, startup and much more. After it, the computer flies. Respectfully Alexander

    Haven't visited your blog in a while. At one time, a couple of tips helped solve several problems, in particular, the HDD infection worked slowly, although time passes and most people change it to a fast SSD drive, they have now become more accessible))

    I myself am the owner of a laptop, a useful thing in the household, but if you decide to engage in complex calculations, video editing or image rendering, modeling in Cinema 4D without a good video card, it’s a disastrous business. Personally, I took mine in 2013 in the summer just in the midst of discounts, I bought an MSI CX70 ONF-230RU and in 2016 I decided to upgrade it, a crazy idea came up but it burned out. I assembled the MSI CX70 + GTX 1060 for myself and I will say that it became more comfortable to work in the above applications, and after that I bought a high-quality 27 "QHD monitor and the whole process played with new colors. True, there are limitations, as you know, in PC motherboards there is a slot for an x16 video card and connected through x1. The data flow rate is severely cut, but even what is enough for the eyes, I myself did not believe for a long time that it would turn out. In a word, such a budget assembly of a PC from a laptop turned out)))

Probably, all users at least once blamed their computer for slow work, while not thinking at all that there are a lot of opportunities to speed it up. Many people believe that improving PC performance is difficult and accessible only to advanced users, but this opinion is not entirely true. Yes, there are methods to improve performance that require a lot of skill in working with a computer, but there are many very simple ways to “overclock” a PC. Every user should be aware of these methods. In this article, we will talk about them using the example of the most popular version of Windows today - you will learn how to speed up windows 7.

Disable Visual Effects Windows 7

Turning off the visual effects of Windows 7 is the easiest and most affordable option to improve the speed of the system. To perform this procedure, follow the instructions:

3. A new window will open in front of you, in it click on the "Advanced" tab and in the "Performance" section, click the "Options" button.

4. In the "Options" window that appears, in the "Visual Effects" tab, you will see how many visual effects there are in Windows 7. Of course, thanks to them, the platform looks more interesting and pleasant, but they slow down the speed of its work quite a bit.

5. To turn off all visual effects at once, check the “Ensure the best performance” box, and if you want to turn off the effects selectively, uncheck the boxes you want.

6. That's it, for the changes to take effect, you must click "OK" and restart the PC.

Disabling unwanted audio

Along with visual effects, to make it more pleasant for the user to work with a PC, Microsoft also created system sounds. You will be surprised, but they also require certain resources, and disabling them can positively affect the performance of Windows 7.

To disable visual effects:

1. Press the combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "mmsys.cpl" and click "OK".

2. A new window will open in front of you, select the "Sounds" tab, set the sound scheme to "Silent", click "OK".

3. Reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

Disabling the Search Indexing Option

For users who often search for something in the system, Microsoft has provided a very convenient search indexing option, which makes it easier and faster to find files. However, if you rarely use the system search, this option is completely useless and only “steals” the performance of Windows 7. To disable it, do the following:

2. Expand the "Services and Applications" list, click on the "Services" line and in the list on the right, find the Windows Search service.

By default, you can also disable the following services [screenshot below], as practice shows, they rarely benefit the average home PC user.

Removing "extra" programs from startup

Windows has an autoload option. It is responsible for launching a number of programs at the same time as the system boots. These programs include, as a rule, various services and applications, without which the correct operation of the PC will be impossible. But, unfortunately, quite often completely unnecessary third-party programs are added to these programs.

The thing is that third-party software developers include an autoload function in their products, thus making their program more “intrusive”. However, when it comes to running along with an antivirus system, this makes sense. However, there are many programs that run with Windows when they don't need to. Of course, this affects the speed of the PC.

To remove a program from startup, you must:

1. Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "msconfig" and click "OK".

2. A window will open, select the "Startup" section in it.

3. Remove the checkmarks from the windows of those programs that you do not need to autoload.

Remember! Without some startup programs, the system will not be able to function correctly, so uncheck only those programs that you are sure are unnecessary.

4. Click OK and restart your PC.

HDD Optimization

At the beginning of the article, we mentioned that we will talk about simple ways to improve the performance of Windows 7, and, for sure, after reading this heading, you thought that we had already gone into the wilds, but this is not the case. We will talk about the simplest hard drive optimization and try to explain in an accessible way why it is required.

The fact is that all files that are written to the hard drive are broken into fragments according to a certain law. This is required in order to maximize the rational use of PC resources. However, it turns out that when a user accesses a particular file, the system has to collect its "pieces" throughout the hard drive. If a lot of unnecessary files have accumulated on your disk, this, of course, significantly slows down the process. That's why, hard disk optimization is a necessary procedure when it comes to how to speed up Windows 7.

The first and most logical way to optimize is to remove unnecessary files and programs. Each user has a lot of “garbage” stored on their PC and it is important to get rid of it regularly. Of course, any, even the most "zero" user knows how to delete files, but sometimes there are problems with programs, although this task is not difficult. To uninstall a program from a PC:

4. You will see a list of the programs you use, decide which ones you no longer need and delete them - to delete, click once on the "undesirable" program and click the "Delete" button.

5. After removing all unnecessary programs, restart your PC.

Another procedure necessary for optimizing a hard drive is its defragmentation. It's a complicated word, but it's simple:

1. Go to "Computer", right-click on the disk, select "Properties" in the drop-down menu.

2. In the window that appears, select the "Service" tab, then click the "Defragment" button.

3. After defragmenting, restart your PC.

If your system is divided into several disks, defragment each of them. Important! The defragmentation procedure, as well as the procedure for deleting unnecessary files, must be carried out regularly.

Meal Plan Optimization

This Windows 7 acceleration method is relevant for laptop users. Very often, disconnecting from the network, laptops automatically switch to a reduced power consumption mode, which, of course, corresponds to the minimum performance. Therefore, it is very important when returning to the network, to switch to high performance mode. Of course, no one forbids using this mode when working offline, however, please note that in this case the laptop will run out faster.

To switch to high performance mode:

3. Select the "Power Options" section.

4. Put a dot in the "High performance" box.

Changing boot options

By default, at startup, the system does not use all its resources, this is necessary so that the "cold" iron is not loaded to the maximum. However, if your PC has more than 2 GB of RAM and more than one core, you can change the boot settings, thereby greatly speeding it up. For this:

1. Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "msconfig" and click "OK".

2. Select the "Download" tab, check the box "Without GUI".

3. Next, click the button "Advanced options", in the boxes "Number of processors" and "Maximum memory", check the boxes, set the maximum value and click "OK" first in the window "Advanced boot options", then in the window "System Configuration".

Results

Over time, a huge number of unnecessary files accumulate on the computer, as a result of which the performance of the hard drive slows down. The longer a computer is in use, the slower its performance. While some of the responsibility for slow computer performance lies with the age of its use, there are a number of steps you can take to speed up data processing and operating system loading.

Steps

Part 1

Disable autorun programs
  • The tabs are at the top of the Task Manager window; The Startup tab lists programs that start when the OS boots.

  • Click on the process you want to disable. Please note that disabling a process will not lead to a complete blocking of the corresponding program - its autorun will be disabled.

    Click Disable. This button is located in the lower right corner of the Task Manager window.

    • Or right-click on the process and select "Disable" from the menu.
  • Repeat the above steps for each program you want to disable autorun. For example, the following programs take up a lot of RAM: Skype, Steam, and most antiviruses.

    • If you don't know which programs to disable, take a look at the Startup Impact column, which is located on the right side of the Task Manager window. It is recommended to disable any program with a High or Medium setting.
  • When you're done configuring startup programs, close the Task Manager. To make your changes more effective, clear the Hidden Icons menu.

    Open the Hidden Icons menu. To do this, click on the upward arrow located on the right side of the taskbar (to the left of the clock).

    View the Hidden Icons menu. Often this menu contains icons for programs that are running in the background (for example, Dropbox or Google Drive). Terminating such programs will free up RAM, which will lead to an increase in computer performance. You can close programs directly from the Hidden Icons menu.

    Right-click on the icon of the program you want to close. For example, if you are not using a cloud storage service client program, close it.

    Click "Exit" (at the bottom of the context menu). In most cases, you need to confirm the decision to end the process; To do this, click "Exit" again. Repeat the above steps for each program you want to close.

    Part 2

    Turn off visual effects
    1. Open the start menu. It is located in the lower left corner of the screen. The visual effects of Windows 8/10 are designed with the performance of today's computers in mind; if one of these versions of Windows is installed on an older computer, its performance will be significantly reduced. Therefore, it is recommended to disable visual effects.

      • Or press a key ⊞ Win to open the start menu.
    2. In the Control Panel search bar, type "appearance settings". The search bar is located in the upper right corner of the Control Panel window.

      Click "Adjust the look and feel of Windows". This option is located in the "System" group (in the upper left corner of the Control Panel window).

      Check out the visuals. The menu that opens has several options:

      • "Provide the best view." Enabling this option will activate all visual effects, i.e. the result is the opposite of what you want.
      • "Get the best performance." Most of the visual effects will be disabled, and the performance of the computer will increase.
      • "Special Effects". In this case, clear the checkboxes of the effects you want to disable. For optimal performance on an older computer, we recommend that you turn off all visual effects.
    3. Choose the option that best suits your computer. In the case of an outdated computer, check the "Special effects" option and turn off all visual effects; keep in mind that the "Ensure best performance" option will suit most mid-range computers.

      Close the Performance Options window. You will notice that the design of the system has become poorer, but its performance has increased.

    Part 3

    Clean up your hard drive

    Part 4

    Remove unnecessary programs

      Open the start menu. In this menu you can find a list of installed programs; just scroll through the list to view all programs.

      • There are also folders in the list; they usually include several programs at once, so open each folder and view its contents.
    1. Remove unnecessary programs. For example, newsreaders or radio programs are generally not needed because they can be swapped out for better programs or web browser extensions.

      • If the operation of the OS depends on some program, it will not be possible to remove such a program. However, most system programs consume a minimum of computer resources.
    2. Right click on the application you want to uninstall. The context menu will open.

      Click Remove and then confirm your choice. The program will be removed immediately (that is, the Programs and Features window does not need to be opened).

      • You may have to click the Next button (at the bottom of the context menu) to access the Remove button.
    3. Remove all unused programs. As a rule, computers running Windows come with a large number of pre-installed programs, utilities and plug-ins, some of which can be safely removed.

      Change the pre-installed programs to others. For each preset program, there is at least one alternative program:

      • Replace your Microsoft Edge browser with Chrome or Firefox. These browsers are fast and easy alternatives to Edge.
      • Replace Groove with iTunes. Groove cannot be uninstalled, but this program consumes much more computer resources than iTunes.
      • Replace the pre-installed media player with VLC. VLC processes data faster, plays almost any video format, and has a simpler and more intuitive interface than Microsoft's media players, which are installed by default.
    4. Restart your computer. The described methods should lead to an increase in computer performance.

    • Treat your computer properly, such as charging the battery on time (in the case of a laptop) and shutting down the computer regularly. So you will increase the life of your computer and increase its performance.
    • Scan your system for viruses or malware at least once a week; do this with an antivirus and other appropriate programs. This way you will not allow viruses and malware to load the processor.
    • Make sure your computer is running in high performance mode. If the power saving mode (or similar) is activated, the system will not be able to handle powerful programs or games. To find out the operating mode, click on the battery-shaped icon on the right side of the taskbar.
    • If the computer is more than two years old, it is quite difficult to install a new operating system (for example, Windows 10) on it. As a general rule, the latest versions of Windows are optimized for the latest technology, not hardware that's three or four years old.
    • Although the browser is not a computer accessory, clear its cache and cookies to speed up the loading of web pages.
