How to install a search engine on a computer. How to set Google as the default search engine in Internet Explorer

How to install google search on the site, if you are a total teapot? It is quite simple and does not require special knowledge, the instructions below will help you.

Recently, I wanted to add a third-party search form from Google or Yandex to my site, but I settled on the first option, since many webmasters use it, and in addition, the custom search system (CSS) from Google Inc can also be monetized using, well, in thirdly, this is setting up the design of the form itself and search results, Google will probably have it cooler.

Where to get a Google search code

Method number 1. In order to receive a Google search code for a site, you must be registered with Google or, in other words, get yourself an email gmail.com. The creation of a custom search system takes place on the service Google CSE.

Figure 1. Create custom search engine button

Click on the button and proceed to the creation of the SPP:

Figure 2. Creating a custom search engine

Here you need to fill in 3 fields:

  • Sites that are being searched- specify the domain of your site and its mirrors;
  • Language- choose Russian or whichever you need - this is the language of the SPP interface;
  • Search engine name- enter the name of the search engine.

After completing the above settings, click on the Create button.

A window with congratulations will open, there are also three menu items:

Figure 3. Google custom search created

On this, all the settings are considered, let's return to the installation of the code shown in Figure 4. Select and copy it. How this script is installed on the site, I will tell you on the example of WordPress.

Widgets are the easiest way to install Google search code on a site, in WordPress this can be done using the Text widget:

Figure 6. Text Widget in WordPress

The widget can be installed in the sitebar or other available places in your template. To speed up the download, I recommend dividing the IPS code into two parts:

  • The actual script:
1 2 3

  • And the tag responsible for displaying the form on the blog:
1

I recommend leaving the output code in the widget, and moving the script to where it will not interfere with the loading of the main content of the site, before the closing tag. In WordPress, this tag can be found in the file footer.php.

Creating a Google Search in Adsense Account

Method 2. In addition to the fact that a Google search can be created on the site Google CSE, there is another quick way available for those who have a working Adsense account. If you are registered with Adsense, you can get a Google search form in a few steps, and ads will be set up there right away.

Figure 7. My ads tab in Adsense

Select Search and go to the IPS management page in Adsense:

Figure 8. IPS Management Page

Click on the button New custom search system and go to the page for creating a CBS:

Figure 9. Creation of WBS

In Figure 9, I have indicated the basic settings:

  • Name;
  • Search area- which site will be searched;
  • Country- specify countries;
  • Site language- specify the language of your site;
  • Encoding- I recommend UTF-8;
  • Transliteration- I recommend to expose English;
  • Popular queries

When filling them out, there is nothing complicated. The remaining 4 points will be analyzed in more detail:

After completing all the settings, we save them and get the code that needs to be installed on the site. How this is done, I described above.

Our advice: download , a fast and free browser. Google Chrome opens web pages and applications with lightning speed.

The start page in the browser is that tab, page or site on the Internet that opens first when you open your browser each time you start it, or when you press the Home button.

Do you have a desire or need to work specifically with the Yandex search engine? The start page, which can be installed by a user of absolutely any level, will always open first when loading the browser program.

To achieve this, you can use one of the following methods. Installing and securing Yandex as a homepage is quite easy, and in this article we will consider in detail the options for how to do this.

It all depends on which browser you use, because the applications and settings algorithms for each program are different. But I wonder why there is no start page at all in the Yandex Browser itself?

The most universal and easiest way is to type "www.ya.ru" in the address bar of your browser and wait for the web resource to load. In the upper left corner you can see the inscription "Make start".

Click on it and you're done. From this moment on, you begin your work with the site " www.yandex.ru"Or, to put it more simply, with the Yandex search engine.

Installation using a free utility

Yandex itself provides us with a convenient and comfortable way to set up home pages in browsers using automatic utilities specially created for this.

When the download is over, you should install a browser manager on your computer or laptop, and this smart utility will be able to monitor the home page itself, even in spite of the actions of various malware.

The manager will be able to save you from such unpleasant surprises as Webalta and calculate so that only Yandex will always remain in the role of start in your browser. But not always the manager can get around all the obstacles. More on this later in the article.

The most common browsers in use today are:

If you are a supporter of the classic default browser Internet Explorer, then the following algorithm helps you set up the Yandex start page.

Open Internet Explorer and click the icon "Settings"
in the upper right corner, which brings up a window "Service" .

You can also call this menu by simultaneously pressing the Alt + X hotkey combination.

In the dropdown menu select "Browser Options" , or it may also be called "Browser Property" . Next, open the tab "General" .

In operating systems such as Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Internet Explorer is a built-in program.

But installation is carried out in the same way as other versions of this browser for almost 20 years now.

To make Yandex the start page in Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11, follow these steps:

  1. In the upper right corner, click "Settings" and choose "Browser Options" .
  2. Enter links to homepage addresses in the field. If, in addition to Yandex, other links are needed, then here we enter the addresses for them. Each line should contain only one address.
  3. choose "Start from home page" .
  4. Confirm the action by clicking on the " OK" .

After completing all the steps, our Internet Explorer will display Yandex as the first page when loading.

Installation in Microsoft Edge

For fans of Microsoft Edge, there is the following algorithm. To open settings in Microsoft Edge, click on the icon

Function will be displayed at the bottom of the page "View advanced options" and enable addon "Show home button" .

We need to enter the address “https://www.yandex.ru” into the text field in the same way as in the case of Internet Explorer.

We fix our actions with a button click "Save" . When the browser is restarted, Yandex will become the newly introduced home page.

Installation in Google Chrome

Google Chrome - the most popular browser according to independent surveys on the Internet, offers us the following method. Looking for the icon in the browser "Settings"
and open it.

Finding a button "Appearance" . Turn on the add-on "Show home button" .

In the query line "Enter web address" enter the desired link: "https://www.yandex.ru/". This completes the setup, because all user actions are immediately synchronized with your profile in the browser.

After completing all the manipulations when you restart Google Chrome, Yandex will be displayed when you click the button "Home" (picture of a house).

And if you want Yandex to load completely automatically, then you should use another installation option. To change you will need:

1 In the Google Chrome menu in the upper right corner, call the command "Settings" .

2 Looking for an item "Initial Group" , where we put a tick (if it is not checked) "Next Pages" .

4 If you are a fan of Yandex, then here you can configure it as the default search engine. In chapter "Search" specify the search engine Yandex.

5 Close the settings. Confirm your actions by pressing a button "OK" no need, in this browser everything is synchronized instantly.

If you configured the browser as described above, then when you turn on Google Chrome, the pages installed in the initial group (in our case, Yandex) will always open. "Settings" - "Basic" .

We are looking for the line "When Firefox starts" and set the value "Show home page" . Accordingly, in the line "Homepage" enter the link "https://www.yandex.ru/".

Like in Google Chrome, in Mozilla Firefox, the home page is accessed using the Alt + Home hotkey combination.

Installation in Opera

Supporters of the Opera browser can use the following method: by pressing Alt + P hotkeys, bring up the menu.

Switch to "Browser" to section "At startup" . Next click on the link "Set Pages" and in the field "Add new page" enter the path "https://www.yandex.ru/".

After all operations, confirm the actions by pressing the button "OK" and set the switch to position "Open Home Page" .

That's all the necessary steps in order to achieve our goal - to make Yandex Search the home page in the Opera browser.

After following all the instructions, the browser will automatically open the search engine at startup.

What is it

DuckDuckGo is a fairly well-known open source search engine. The servers are located in the USA. In addition to its own robot, the search engine uses the results of other sources: Yahoo, Bing, Wikipedia.

The better

DuckDuckGo positions itself as the ultimate privacy and privacy search. The system does not collect any data about the user, does not store logs (no search history), the use of cookies is as limited as possible.

DuckDuckGo does not collect or share personal information from users. This is our privacy policy.

Gabriel Weinberg, founder of DuckDuckGo

Why do you need this

All major search engines try to personalize based on data about the person in front of the monitor. This phenomenon is called "filter bubble": the user sees only those results that are consistent with his preferences or that the system considers as such.

DuckDuckGo creates an objective picture that does not depend on your past behavior on the Web, and gets rid of Google and Yandex thematic advertising based on your requests. With the help of DuckDuckGo, it is easy to search for information in foreign languages: Google and Yandex prefer Russian-language sites by default, even if the query is entered in another language.

What is it

not Evil is a system that searches the anonymous Tor network. To use it, you need to go to this network, for example, by launching a specialized one with the same name.

not Evil is not the only search engine of its kind. There is LOOK (default search in the Tor browser, accessible from the regular Internet) or TORCH (one of the oldest search engines on the Tor network) and others. We settled on not Evil because of the unmistakable allusion to Google (just look at the start page).

The better

He is looking for where Google, Yandex and other search engines are denied access in principle.

Why do you need this

There are many resources on the Tor network that cannot be found on the law-abiding Internet. And their number will grow as the control of the authorities over the contents of the Web tightens. Tor is a kind of network within the Web with its social networks, torrent trackers, media, marketplaces, blogs, libraries, and so on.

3. YaCy

What is it

YaCy is a decentralized search engine that works on the principle of P2P networks. Each computer on which the main software module is installed scans the Internet on its own, that is, it is an analogue of a search robot. The results obtained are collected in a common database, which is used by all YaCy participants.

The better

It is difficult to say here whether this is better or worse, since YaCy is a completely different approach to organizing search. The lack of a single server and owner company makes the results completely independent of anyone's preferences. The autonomy of each node excludes censorship. YaCy is capable of searching the deep web and non-indexed public networks.

Why do you need this

If you are a supporter of open source software and a free Internet that is not influenced by government agencies and large corporations, then YaCy is your choice. It can also be used to organize searches within a corporate or other autonomous network. And although YaCy is not very useful in everyday life, it is a worthy alternative to Google in terms of the search process.

4. Pipl

What is it

Pipl is a system designed to search for information about a specific person.

The better

The authors of Pipl claim that their specialized algorithms search more efficiently than "regular" search engines. In particular, priority sources of information are social media profiles, comments, lists of participants and various databases where information about people is published, such as databases of court decisions. Pipl's leadership in this area is confirmed by Lifehacker.com, TechCrunch and other publications.

Why do you need this

If you need to find information about a person living in the US, then Pipl will be much more efficient than Google. Databases of Russian courts, apparently, are inaccessible to the search engine. Therefore, he does not cope so well with the citizens of Russia.

What is it

FindSounds is another specialized search engine. Searches for various sounds (house, nature, cars, people, and so on) in open sources. The service does not support requests in Russian, but there is an impressive list of Russian-language tags that you can search for.

The better

In the issuance of only sounds and nothing more. In the search settings, you can set the desired format and sound quality. All found sounds are available for download. There is a search for sounds by pattern.

Why do you need this

If you need to quickly find the sound of a musket shot, the blow of a sucking woodpecker, or the cry of Homer Simpson, then this service is for you. And we chose this only from the available Russian-language queries. In English, the spectrum is even wider.

But seriously, a specialized service implies a specialized audience. But will it come in handy for you too?

What is it

Wolfram|Alpha is a computational search engine. Instead of links to articles that contain keywords, it gives a ready-made answer to the user's query. For example, if you enter in the search form "compare the population of New York and San Francisco" in English, then Wolfram|Alpha will immediately display tables and graphs with a comparison.

The better

This service is better than others for finding facts and calculating data. Wolfram|Alpha collects and organizes knowledge available on the Web from various fields, including science, culture and entertainment. If this database contains a ready answer to a search query, the system shows it, if not, it calculates and displays the result. In this case, the user sees only the necessary information and nothing more.

Why do you need this

If you are, for example, a student, analyst, journalist, or researcher, you can use Wolfram|Alpha to find and calculate data related to your activities. The service does not understand all requests, but is constantly evolving and becoming smarter.

What is it

Metasearch engine Dogpile displays a combined list of results from Google, Yahoo and other popular search engines.

The better

First, Dogpile displays fewer ads. Secondly, the service uses a special algorithm to find and display the best results from different search engines. According to the developers of Dogpile, their system generates the most complete issue on the entire Internet.

Why do you need this

If you can't find information on Google or another standard search engine, look it up in several search engines at once using Dogpile.

What is it

BoardReader is a text search system for forums, Q&A services and other communities.

The better

The service allows you to narrow the search field to social sites. Thanks to special filters, you can quickly find posts and user comments that match your criteria: language, publication date, and site name.

Why do you need this

BoardReader can be useful for PR specialists and other media professionals who are interested in the opinion of a mass audience on certain issues.

Finally

The life of alternative search engines is often fleeting. Lifehacker asked the former CEO of the Ukrainian branch of the Yandex company Sergey Petrenko about the long-term prospects for such projects.

Sergey Petrenko

Former CEO of Yandex.Ukraine.

As for the fate of alternative search engines, it is simple: to be very niche projects with a small audience, therefore, without clear commercial prospects, or, conversely, with the complete clarity of their absence.

If you look at the examples in the article, you can see that such search engines either specialize in a narrow but in-demand niche, which, perhaps only so far, has not grown enough to be noticeable on the radars of Google or Yandex, or are testing an original hypothesis in ranking, which is not yet applicable in conventional search.

For example, if a Tor search suddenly turns out to be in demand, that is, at least a percentage of the Google audience will need the results from there, then, of course, ordinary search engines will begin to solve the problem of how to find them and show them to the user. If the behavior of the audience shows that a significant proportion of users in a significant number of queries seem to be more relevant results, data without taking into account factors that depend on the user, then Yandex or Google will begin to give such results.

"To be better" in the context of this article does not mean "to be better at everything". Yes, in many aspects our heroes are far from Google and Yandex (even far from Bing). But each of these services gives the user something that the giants of the search industry cannot offer. Surely you also know similar projects. Share with us - let's discuss.

How to make Yandex the default search? This question is asked by many inexperienced Internet users, and in this article everyone can find the answer to the question. This is done differently in different browsers. For example, in Google Chrome it is much easier to do this than in Explorer or Mozilla. Let's take an example of the four most popular browsers.

Yandex search by default in Google Chrome

Chrome is one of the best browsers. Fast and easy to use, it has become one of the most popular in a short time. In this browser you need:

1. Click "Customize and control Google Chrome" (located in the upper right corner).

2. In the context menu that opens, select "Settings".

3. A new tab with settings will open. There you will need to scroll the page with the cursor to the “Search” column and select the appropriate system.

4. Now "Yandex" is set as the default search engine. You can check this by typing any query into the address bar, like this one:

and here you will get the result:

Search Yandex by default in FireFox

A browser that to this day is not inferior to competitors in terms of functionality. Perhaps many users simply don't want to try new ones while staying with Mozila. If you need to make Yandex the default search in Mozil, then follow these steps:

1. Go to the FireFox configuration settings. To do this, open a browser, enter the command "about:config" in the address bar and press "Enter".

Next, the system will notify you that incorrect changes may adversely affect the further operation of the browser. Follow only those commands that are included in the manual, it is not recommended to engage in amateur activities without knowledge.

2. Confirm your caution in the pop-up window and find the "Keyword.URL" mini-section in the list. The search will be greatly facilitated if you enter this command in the "Search:" line.

4. A window will open in which you need to enter the address "http://yandex.ru/yandsearch?text=" (without quotes) and click "OK".

5. We check:

and get the desired result:

Search Yandex by default in Opera

An old and popular browser even on mobile platforms. Used by many to this day, developers release periodic updates to improve their browser. To set the default Yandex search engine in Opera, you need to:

1. Open your browser and click "Customize and control Opera" in the top left corner.

2. In the context menu that appears, select "Settings".

3. We find the "Search" column and set the search engine you need in the corresponding window.

Yandex search by default in Internet Explorer

1. Click "Start" and open the control panel.

2. Select the "Internet Options" section.

3. Open the "General" tab.

4. We find the "Search" section and click on "Parameters" in it.

5. You will be taken to the "Add-ons" menu, in which you need to select the "Search Services" section and select the appropriate search engine.

It remains only to check.

It is in these ways that you can easily set the default Yandex search in your favorite browser.

Why, after restarting the browser, did the settings go wrong again, and Yandex is no longer the default search?

If you too often experience problems with changing your search engine, then you are being "terrorized" by a virus. Such software cannot be called very malicious, because it only changes your browser settings. However, there is no need to endure inconvenience - get rid of it.

The constant change of settings is usually influenced by a certain “[email protected]” or “[email protected]”. Uninstall this program from your computer using the control panel. You should also remove this software from startup.

Usually these programs are installed automatically during the installation of other software. For example, you decided to download Skype, started the installation and discovered during it the introduction of programs from mail.ru. This means that you have downloaded a repack with a virus, when installing it, uncheck the boxes for commands that do not need to be executed, for example, “Set mail.ru as default search.
