Disable unnecessary. When the purpose of the program is absolutely clear, but you hardly use it, you need to remove it from startup. Let me emphasize that we are talking only about programs with which you can interact. Many startup applications do not have a graphical interface and are used, for example, to check for security updates to "parent" programs in the background. By disabling them, you create a potential security vulnerability for your system.

If you later export the customized scheduler tasks for your favorite programs, even after reinstalling the system, you can very quickly optimize startup.

ReadyBoot does not work on solid-state drives, but on hard drives it helps to speed up Windows startup by placing system boot files and applications that start with it in RAM. The debugged effect of putting things in order in startup (including the distribution over time) is connected precisely with the work of ReadyBoot and is not so noticeable at first glance.

One of the improvements to the SuperFetch service in Windows 7 is that the analysis and filling of the cache are not performed immediately, but some time after the system boots. Apparently, this was done in order not to interfere with us performing actions in the system immediately after its launch. Therefore, the SuperFetch service takes a certain amount of time to respond to the changes you made in startup programs.

You will see the effect of ReadyBoot only after a few reboots, but taking into account the above, it makes no sense to reboot the system immediately after logging in. Either let it stand for a while, or just work as usual for two to three days, rebooting as usual.

Defragment your disk - now and on schedule
If your system is installed on an SSD drive, any advice on defragmentation does not apply to it. But the issue of fragmentation is very relevant for owners of conventional hard drives, which are the slowest components in modern computers.

It is curious that this parameter is not officially documented - it was suggested by my colleague on the forum, and later I found a mention in the developer's blog and supplemented my list of command line parameters. In fact, it is simply faster than performing a full defrag, which also processes the boot files.

Defragmentation of boot files gives an instant effect, and after a couple of reboots it will even intensify due to the ReadyBoot training. However, the effect will be temporary if defragmentation is not performed on schedule. By the way, in this case, the system performs defragmentation of the boot files separately, i.e. uses just that undocumented parameter, which was discussed above.

Mentioning the boot sector is a localization error. In the English system, this is simply called boot optimization, i.e. optimization of loading.
The effect of defragmenting boot files can negate a third-party defragmenter that places file fragments on disk in its own way.
For Windows Defragmenter to work effectively, three conditions must be met:
Task Scheduler service enabled.

Enabled ScheduledDefrag task in the scheduler.
At least 15% free disk space.
Without the first two conditions, scheduled defragmentation simply does not occur, and the third is necessary to complete a full defragmentation.

No matter how hard you try to speed up Windows startup, its duration will always be several times longer than the time the system exits from hibernation, and even more so from sleep. I will not dwell on the intricacies of these modes, because OSZone has a great article on this topic.

I actively use both modes on my two systems - after a period of inactivity, they go to sleep, and instead of turning them off, I put them into hibernation. Restarting is required only when installing updates and some programs, so on average it happens every three to four days.

Sleep and hibernation can help save energy on mobile systems, and while this is almost irrelevant on desktop systems, there is nothing stopping you from using these modes in them too. At the same time, you can find out if you have any problems with them in the system, which sometimes happens (for example, peripheral devices refuse to "wake up"). The problem often lies in the area of ​​drivers, but not always there is a more suitable driver for the device.
Whether or not you run into a problem depends in part on the origin of your computer. Obviously, netbooks and laptops sold with Windows 7 on board are the least affected. Xbootmgr optimizes booting so that at any given time, the resources of the computer are used to the maximum. That is, so that there is no such thing when the processor is loaded at 100%, and the hard disk is resting, or vice versa. It also happens. After the last reboot, nothing needs to be done, Windows will boot, and even work, faster.

Step four, dangerous

In the seven, as well as in XP (although not everyone guesses about this), there is support for multi-core processors. It is not clear only why the system itself is not always able to use all available resources when it starts up, but starts using them only when it has already fully loaded and the user has started to work.
