How to control a computer through a phone? Modern phones. Program for remote control of a computer TeamViewer

Some of you, after reading the title of the article, probably wondered: “Why do you need to control another computer over the Internet?” It turns out that it is necessary, and first of all, for potential readers of my blog - pensioners and teapots.

Do not think that I want you to learn this in order to take control of your neighbor's computer, whose dog makes you mad with his constant barking and starts doing something incredible with him, terrifying him and his dog. Of course not. And without his knowledge, such management is unlikely to succeed. I will not intrigue you, I will move on to the topic.

Why you need to manage another computer via the Internet

Of course, first of all, in order for someone more experienced and versed in
computer technology, for example, your friend or relative living far away from you could, if necessary, help you solve your PC remotely. Yes, even not necessarily a problem, but simply set up some kind of program or help to issue the same application for a passport via the Internet.
Or another case: you are already a fairly experienced user and you need, while away, from your “travel” laptop to sometimes look at your home PC, at least in order to print some kind of document, which is only there. Or for some other reason, you never know? This is where you need to manage others, that is, your home computer via the Internet.
Or take an enterprise that has its own local network. Imagine how a system administrator will have to run if you need to run a program somewhere or bring another PC out of a freeze. And if there are hundreds of computers and not just one, but in different buildings? You have to be a sprinter here. And then, after a while, you will erase your legs to one place. I hope I dispelled your doubts about the uselessness of this case?

How remote administration works

Of course, these are not hacker tricks and various trojans. Although the methods of programs used to remotely control a computer via the Internet are very similar. And they differ from viruses only in that they act openly and naturally, with the mutual consent of the owners of the PCs involved in this process.
They consist of two parts. The first is the server, the second is the client side. The server is installed on the computer that needs to be controlled, and the client part is installed on the one that the administrator uses. In this, remote administrators are very similar to Trojans. But the goals, as you know, they are completely different.
You can connect to the PC where this server is installed only by knowing its IP address, as well as the password, which must be set on it in order to prevent anyone from accessing it via the Internet. And then this very “anybody” will be able to work on your “brainchild” no worse than any Trojan.

Influence of the type of ip-address and problem solving

If you have a static IP address to access the Internet, then there will be no problems. But if it is static, but is part of the network of a house or district, and those, in turn, have a dynamic (that is, changing from time to time) address for accessing the Internet, then difficulties may already arise. Well, just if you are not a member of any network, but access the Internet at a dynamic address - the same problem.

But these problems are solvable. There are, for example, such special sites as No-Ip.com or DynDNS.com, where you can register, install an updater program and get a permanent address through them: user.no-ip.com. True, these sites are in English, but if necessary, I'm sure you can find others in Russian too.

This is for information, but in general I would not bother with it. Currently, there are many ready-made programs that each time take over all this technical work with registering the current address on their server and indicate which address to look for your PC on the Internet.

But if there is a need for a static IP address (for example, I need it for a number of other reasons), then this can be done through your provider. For those who don't know, an ISP is an internet service provider. In our city in Bashinformsvyaz, today the connection costs 150 rubles, the monthly fee is 50 rubles. Agree not such a great amount even for pensioners.

Possibilities after remote connection

I will not talk about the amenities that appear after that. This was said at the very beginning when we figured out what it was for. And what are the specific opportunities directly related to management? Here are the main ones:

  • see the desktop, or rather a copy, of the remote PC on your screen;
  • intercept control at any time even with the keyboard, even with the mouse;
  • run any programs that are installed on the managed computer and install new ones as needed;
  • open and, if necessary, modify files;
  • transfer any files over the Internet in forward and reverse directions;

So, thanks to remote administration, we get full control of another computer via the Internet. Virtually unlimited control. Of course, this is with the full consent of its owner. Only for this you need a communication channel speed of at least 256Kbps and a special program.

Programs to control another computer via the Internet

For these purposes, there are enough programs, both paid and free. I will list the most common and of course free:

  • LogMeIn Hamachi

    Allows you to combine up to 16 PCs from different parts of the world into your own virtual network via the Internet. In addition to management, there are many other possibilities, up to the organization of network games;
  • Ultra VNC

    It can organize remote control even when all other programs are powerless, but for beginners the settings are very difficult, and there is no support for the Russian language; / li>
  • Ammyy

    Externally, the program is very much like Team Viewer. But its working principle is fundamentally different. It is tied to the PC hardware, and therefore it is enough to allow the program with this ID to the computer once and in the future it will be able to connect to it without any requests.
  • Team Viever

    First of all, this program is good because it does not care about your static or dynamic address. Working with it, without exaggeration, is a hundred times easier than with the native “Remote Assistance” of Windows. We only need to install the program on the PC that we are going to use in this process and create our account in the Team Viewer service.

Installing TeamViewer

There is nothing complicated here, but since my blog is designed primarily for pensioners and dummies, we will analyze in detail and focus on some of the nuances. In the first window, select "Install":

On this, I think, we can finish.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the PenserMan blog pages.

Chrome Remote Desktop is an application created by Google, designed to control a PC using an Android smartphone or tablet. In order to connect between the device and the PC, we need an additional plug-in for the Chrome browser. As for the software, you don’t need to install anything else, which greatly simplifies the process of using this tool.

The program received a concise and stylish interface. In the main menu, you will only find a list of available computers to connect to. The top panel displays the name of the PC to which the connection is currently made, as well as three additional buttons: a virtual keyboard, an additional menu call and a switch to full-screen mode.

  • Limited functionality.

Total.

All applications in this review are distributed free of charge and allow you to remotely control your PC using Android absolutely free. By the way, speaking the functionality of these applications, it is quite enough to perform everyday tasks. Each of the presented applications has its own characteristics, and attract the user: Microsoft Remote Desktop and Chrome Remote Desktop do not require installation of additional software, Splashtop Remote allows you to transfer audio to a mobile device, PocketCloud allows you to make connections in several ways, and teamviewer looks pretty nice and pleases with its functionality. Choose a program to your liking and use it to your health.

In many cases, it is more convenient to manage the contents of a smartphone from a personal computer or laptop. This applies, for example, to the processing of media files - photos, audio and video recordings. Another important point is the ability to transfer large files from a mobile device to a desktop computer.

In this list, there are several applications that will allow you to perform many operations with your phone on your PC. This includes accessing the camera of a smartphone or taking screenshots of a mobile device from a desktop computer.

Programs for managing another computer allow you to perform tasks of paramount importance without direct access to the device. Today, such products are common not only among professionals, but are also used by ordinary users. Read about the best applications for remote administration in the article.

Supremo Remote Desktop

The main advantage of Supremo Remote Desktop is its portability. That is, for the functioning of this tool, you need to install it. This solution is designed only for operating systems of the Windows family. Another indisputable advantage is that it is free. This program for managing another computer is available for download on the developer's website and can be obtained at any time.

Before starting remote administration, you must run the utility on both PCs. Traditionally, such tools have two modes of operation: host and client. The first option does not require any complex actions from the user. You just need to click on the inscription Start. The Your credentials column contains two fields: ID and password. It must be transferred to the operator, who will connect to the PC. Each session generates new values in these fields.

Also in the main window of this program for managing another computer via the Internet there is an item called Ask authorization. If you check the box next to it, the remote administrator will not be able to connect to the server PC without the consent of the end user. It is worth enabling this feature if you want to know at what point the operator connected.

To control a remote machine, the field labeled Your Partner requires the host ID to be entered. Servers can be added to the address book in order to be able to connect to a PC in the future without entering an ID.

Another useful feature of the program is the file manager. With it, you can both transfer documents to the host and download them from it.

Anyplace Control

This program for managing another computer, unlike Supremo, allows you not only to administer a remote machine, but also to perform monitoring. In this case, the window will display what is happening on the screen of the remote PC.

The undoubted advantages of this utility include the ability to work simultaneously with several computers at once. Just one click, and a reboot or shutdown command will be sent to several machines.

Not so necessary, but quite an interesting feature is the shared buffer. After copying a document on a remote PC, it can be pasted on a client PC, and vice versa. This feature is also implemented for text and graphic elements. Using the built-in Anyplace Control module, you can send a message to an administered machine.

Connection methods

Anyplace Control offers three possible connection options:

  • Connection by IP address. Classic way. The program for managing another computer over a local network works without intermediaries and connects directly to the server.
  • Account connection. Best suited for regular administration of the same PCs. It is possible only after registration on the official website. The main advantage of this approach is the ability to remotely control the machine via the Internet, even without a static IP address.
  • ID connection. Best suited for urgent matters. The user is given an ID-number and a password, which he must give to the operator. The administrator, by selecting "Connect by ID" in the menu and entering the data, will gain access to the remote PC.

teamviewer

Not a single review describing programs for controlling another computer deprives TeamViewer of attention. In fact, this tool is the most popular one and it is completely free for home use. The download link is on the official website of the developer. One of the main features of the application is the ability to install it on mobile operating systems: iOS and Android. Not left out and "desktop" operating systems. The QuickSupport tool deserves separate words. This little launcher doesn't require installation and is perfect for urgent tasks.

In the full version of the application, the user is provided with both client and server parts at the same time. The interface is simple and clear - it is a single window divided into tabs: "Remote control" and "Conference".

Remote administration

Like many programs for managing another computer, TeamViewer provides the user with a password and a generated ID by which the PC is identified on the Internet. The operator, knowing them, can easily connect to the machine. The utility provides several connection options:

  • Control. Implemented specifically for the complete interception of control. It should be noted that they are not blocked on the remote PC. In the viewer window, you can change the resolution, turn on full screen mode, switch the zoom level, or switch the active monitor.
  • Like other programs for managing another computer over a network, TeamViewer provides all the standard tools: copying, creating folders, renaming documents.
  • VPN. When you select this mode, a private virtual local area network will be organized between computers. Allows you to access shared devices or directories.

Conferences

Using this tab, you can create a blitz conference or connect to an existing one. Free programs for managing another computer rarely have such functionality. It is worth saying that the application provides voice and video communication, the ability to share the PC screen and record everything that happens in the AVI container. All traffic, both incoming and outgoing, is encrypted by the utility during operation.

Instruction

Training.

The phone and the computer must be connected to the same router, and the computer on the network must have a static IP address, i.e. each time it is enabled, it gets the same local address (192.168.x.x). Each router has its own characteristics, so it is not possible to give any specific recommendations at this stage. But, in general, the process should go something like this.

1. Find the hardware MAC address of the connection you are using (cabled or wireless). In a Windows environment, this can be done by opening a command prompt window and typing ipconfig -all. On a machine running Linux or Mac OS, open a terminal and type ifconfig -a. Scroll through the screen until you see your router's configuration information. The MAC address, usually represented in the Physical Address line, looks something like this: a2:b9:34:54:cc:10 (see image).

2. Go to the router configuration page by opening a browser and typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. If this does not work, look for the correct address in the instructions or on the manufacturer's website. On the router's configuration page, find the static IP address definition section. Enter your computer's MAC address, its name, and the IP address that will be assigned to the router from now on (address 192.168.1.100, for example, is usually quite safe). Having done this, you can move on.

Install Unified Remote.

Go to the Unified Remoute website (www.unifiedremoute.com), download the PC server application from there, and start the installation process. The password you enter must be strong enough, everything else can be left by default. If the system asks if you should open the firewall for this application, answer yes. Then you need to download the Android app from the Play Store or the Unified Remote website. Those who prefer Windows phones will also find the Windows Phone app there (see image).

Launch the mobile application, and in case the Unified Remote server on the computer is also running and everything is fine with the network, it will try to automatically configure itself. If it fails to do this automatically, you will have to add the server manually by entering the IP address of your PC.

After connecting to the server, go to the Remotes application section. There are many options here that you can experiment with. The most useful options are basic input, which allows you to use touch as an intuitive PC mouse, and media, which displays play/stop/volume keys similar to those found on a physical keyboard.

If the network connection is stable, there is practically no delay.

Obviously, remote control only makes sense when the mobile device is literally used as a remote control. By controlling the cursor or multimedia keys, you must be in close proximity to the computer and see what is happening on the screen.

If you want an app that doubles as a remote control and a channel for streaming multimedia content from PC to phone, VLC player is exactly what you need.
Launch the VLC application and select "Settings" from the "Tools" drop-down menu. Switch the "Show settings" switch in the lower left corner to the "All" position, in the "Interface" section on the left panel, select the "Main interfaces" item and check the Web box. After that, close the settings window. The player itself must remain on the screen (see image).

Then you should download the Android VLC Direct Pro Free application from the Google Play store. By default, it will try to find a running VLC server on the network. As a rule, if the VLC player is open, everything happens automatically, but if it fails to detect the PC, as is the case with Unified Remote, the application will ask you to enter its IP address.

After the connection is established, you will see the main interface of the program in front of you. In the TARGET section in the upper left corner, you can choose whether you will manage multimedia content directly on your PC (VLC conical icon) or stream it to your phone (Android icon). The controls for play/pause/stop and the volume control are at the top of the screen. The list of available files is represented by four icons that are lined up and allow you to access (from left to right): local video on the phone, local audio files on the phone, multimedia content on the PC, and the latest files opened on the PC. If you start playing something on your computer, a timeline will appear at the bottom of the screen, with which you can move forward and backward through the recording. Just what you need!

You should be aware of three features of VLC.

First, the phone may not be able to play all the files that open the player by default on the computer. In this case, you can try using the beta version of the VLC for Android application, which allows you to define default associations with video files.

Secondly, another computer can be connected to the same VLC remote control interface via a web browser (for example, if you want to connect to a multimedia PC from a laptop computer without getting up from the couch). Just type 192.168.1.100:8080 in your browser's address bar (if you're using a different static IP address, please specify it).

Thirdly, in order to connect to the VLC player, it must already be running on another computer. And since VLC is not one of the typical background applications, you will have to include it in the startup list yourself. From time to time there is a situation where you need to close and reopen the application in order to switch from viewing the file directly on the PC to viewing it in streaming mode. Unfortunately, there is no truly convenient solution here. The only suggestion is to open the player with, say, Unified Remote, and then launch the VLC remote control program. But you don't have to get up from the couch.

VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is a great multimedia content remote control system that you've probably never heard of before. At a basic level, VNC is an alternative to Unified Remote and allows you to move the cursor around the screen, but its capabilities are not limited to this. With it, you can, for example, scan a document on your office PC, convert files to PDF, send documents by mail, and at the same time watch a movie on a computer in another room.

Deploying a VNC server on a computer is easy - Windows users just need to download the server part of the RealVNC program from the RealVNC website (www.realvnc.com), install it on a PC and run it by entering a strong password (see image).

Ubuntu Linux users need to install the x11vnc program from the Ubuntu Software Center, open the Startup Applications menu and add the following command there: x11vnc -forever -passwd xyzzy -rfbport 5900 -bg, where xyzzy is the chosen password.

So, from the PC side, everything is ready. Now you need to install the VNC application on your phone. There are quite a few VNC applications of varying quality for the Android operating system, but Free bVNC is my favorite. There is nothing complicated in setting it up. All you need to do is enter your PC name, IP address, selected password and click the Connect button. Then you can go to the menu and select Simulated Touchpad as the input mode.

Wake-on-LAN: wake up the computer over the network

Let's say you want to manage torrents and stream media from your PC. The computer is put into sleep mode during idle time, while you are away from home or you are just too lazy to go to another room to turn it on. If all this is so, then you have something to please. Most machines have supported the Wake-on-LAN feature for many years, which allows the network card to wake up the computer when it receives a message sent over the network.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to give specific instructions here, because each PC has its own distinctive features. If the network components are integrated directly into the motherboard, you need to check the Wake-on-LAN settings in the BIOS, otherwise, you should look for them in the advanced settings of the network board in the Device Manager.
Any network adapter, with the exception of wireless adapters connected via a USB interface, has support for the Wake-on-LAN function. Activate this feature.

Next, you should download the Android application of the same name. As in the case of VNC, there are several options from which you need to choose the best one. One option is the Android Wake on LAN app. This time you won't have to install anything on your PC, but instead, when setting up Wake on LAN, you will need to enter your computer's MAC address and its IP address. After entering all the necessary data, put the machine into sleep mode and give a signal that should bring it back to life. Just think what possibilities this application opens up for you! Now you can wake up your PC, open VLC, and stream a movie to your phone without getting out of bed.

Carry your PC in your pocket

The address 192.168.1.100 assigned to a machine is only valid within our own network (which is why anyone can assign their computer the address 192.168.1.100). And to connect from the outside, you need to specify your global IP address, which can be found by typing in the Google search box: “What is my IP address?”.

Please note that some ISPs assign a new global IP address every time you connect your modem, so you need to check it after any power outage (check with your ISP first, as it is likely that it is possible to assign you a static IP address ). In addition, you need to configure your router so that it forwards external requests to your home network at 192.168.1.100. Once you switch to a global IP address, you will no longer be able to determine which computer to access remotely. You connect to the router, and it should already know which PC is being accessed.
Once again, each router has its own characteristics, and here it is impossible to give exact instructions for all occasions. The corresponding settings should be found in the Port Forwarding section. The required ports (if you are prompted to choose between TCP and UDP, choose both options at once) should be added to the PC with the IP address 192.168.1.100. The programs we have reviewed use the following ports:

Wake-on-LAN: 9;
