How to improve a weak pc. The most effective ways are

The question of how to speed up a computer is of interest to a huge number of users, and interest in it does not fade away. You can really affect the speed of your computer by optimizing the operating system. Most of the functions and capabilities of modern operating systems remain unclaimed by ordinary users. Many, after reinstalling the OS, do not make any changes to the configuration and are content with standard settings, which are not the most optimal.

We will analyze in detail all the most relevant methods of optimizing windows 7 to improve computer performance. If you follow our recommendations, you will surely notice that your computer has started to work much faster.

Customizing visual effects

Problem. Operating systems of the windows family have not only a convenient, but also a beautiful interface. This, in turn, imposes quite serious requirements on the computer hardware. With all the abundance of interesting visual effects, hardware should provide smooth operation and the highest possible performance. If the computer is not the most powerful, then a drop in performance is guaranteed. This problem is especially relevant for owners of low-power laptops and netbooks, whose manufacturers primarily set themselves the goal of increasing energy efficiency and reducing costs.

Solution. To solve this problem, it is recommended to disable almost all visual effects and leave only the basic ones. In this case, an increase in productivity is guaranteed to you. Optimizing windows 7 for visual effects is pretty straightforward. Go to the Start menu and type “Visual Effects” in the search bar. Click on the appeared section “Tuning the presentation and system performance”.

For a convenient setting, put the selector in front of the item "Provide the best performance", while absolutely all the checkboxes are removed. Then check the following boxes:

  • Enable desktop composition
  • Using window and button display styles
  • Show thumbnails instead of icons
  • Smooth jaggedness in screen fonts

Click “Apply” and restart your computer.

Optimizing hard drive in windows 7

Problem. All files written to the hard disk are split into fragments using a special algorithm. This is done to maximize the rational use of the remaining disk space. As a result, when the computer tries to read a file, it collects a huge number of individual fragments scattered throughout the hard disk. This process is aggravated by the presence of tens of thousands of fragments of unnecessary files. This, in turn, can lead to a decrease in the performance of the hard drive and the system as a whole.

Solution. The only effective way out of the problem is to regularly clean up junk files and defragment your hard drive. First, revise unnecessary information on your computer. Delete annoying movies (which, by the way, take up a fairly large amount of memory), music and other files that have already lost their relevance for you. Then uninstall programs that you are not using. To do this, go to the "Start" menu -> "Control Panel" -> "Uninstall a program". We revise outdated applications and get rid of them using the “Delete” button.

After cleaning up the garbage, proceed to defragmentation. To do this, go to “My Computer”, right-click on the desired disk and select “Properties” -> “Service” -> “Defragment”. Select the disk and click the "Disk Defragmenter" button.

Optimizing your hard drive will really help you speed up your computer. The effect will be especially noticeable on those computers where this procedure has not been carried out for a long time. Recall that it is advisable to defragment regularly to maintain optimal performance of the hard drive.

Optimization of autorun in windows 7

Problem. Even on powerful and expensive computers, a decrease in the loading speed of the operating system is noticed over time. And in most cases, the culprit is the sheer number of programs that run concurrently with the operating system. Managers for updating various applications, agents of social networks, all kinds of instant messengers, antivirus are added to startup. By the way, it is better not to remove the latter from startup, because ideally the antivirus program should constantly protect the computer in real time. We will disable all other "unexpected guests" at startup.

Solution. For a simple and effective removal of unnecessary programs from startup, it is recommended to use the CCleaner program. Its main specialty is cleaning the registry (we will talk about this further), but it also does an excellent job of optimizing autoloading by providing the user with a convenient and intuitive interface.

Start the program, go to the "Service" -> "Startup" tab and use the "Turn off" button to remove from automatic launch all programs that you do not need.

Diagnostics of RAM and registry

Problem. It is believed that a cluttered registry can negatively affect the speed of a computer, as can problem RAM. Everything is clear with the registry. If installed applications are incompletely removed, "garbage" remains in it (application settings, links to non-existent shortcuts, incorrect file extensions). Over time, the garbage becomes more and more. And if we want to speed up the computer, then the garbage must be removed.

With RAM, things are a little more complicated. This is a very important component of a computer and there is simply no need to talk about optimal system performance without adequate operation of RAM. The reason for the appearance of failures in RAM can be a defect in production, a malfunction in the power supply, and even voltage drops. In any case, the optimization of windows 7 necessarily implies the diagnosis of RAM.

Solution. You can clean the registry using the previously mentioned CCleaner program. RAM can be diagnosed using operating system tools. To do this, open the "Start" menu and in the search box enter "Diagnostics of problems of the computer's RAM".

A window should appear in which you need to select the type of check (it is recommended to select the first option).

After the computer restarts, a memory check will begin. It can take a long period of time, so do not schedule any urgent computer-related tasks during the diagnostics period. When checking on the screen, you will see a window similar to the following:

The end of diagnostics will be accompanied by a computer restart. The next time you enter the system, you will be able to see the results of the check. Optimizing windows 7 must necessarily include working with the registry and RAM.

Optimizing windows 7 for multi-core processors

Problem. Many users have computers equipped with multi-core processors (with 2 or more cores). More cores in the processor should positively affect the speed of the computer. Although the operating system itself automatically checks the type and characteristics of the installed processor, quite often only one core is used at computer startup. Naturally, in this case, the loading speed of the operating system decreases.

Solution. The solution to this problem is very simple. The user can force the system to boot using the power of all processor cores. To do this, go to "Start" -> "All Programs" -> "Accessories" -> "Run". Enter the command "msconfig" and click "OK".

In the system configuration window that appears, go to the "Loading" tab -> "Additional parameters ...". Put a check mark in front of the item “Number of processors” and select the maximum number. Click "OK".

If you do not know how to speed up your computer, or rather how to affect the speed of the operating system startup, then this method is ideal for you.

Removing unnecessary gadgets

Problem. Standard and additional gadgets used in windows 7 are undoubtedly very convenient and useful. Many users are happy to use them in their daily work to facilitate access to interesting information. On the other hand, gadgets can directly affect the speed of a computer, naturally in a negative way. Such gadgets will consume the resources of your system. On a powerful modern machine, this may not be noticeable, but on weaker computers, the drop in performance will be noticeable.

Solution. Optimizing windows 7 in terms of gadgets does not mean removing them completely. Leave 1-2 of the most used and useful gadgets, and delete the rest. All the same, with a high degree of probability, it can be argued that you will receive most of the interesting information on the Internet. Why then once again load your system.

Optimizing windows 7 with ReadyBoost

Problem. The windows 7 operating system can use high-speed flash memory devices to efficiently cache the data of the most frequently launched applications. In fact, a USB memory stick or SD card can be used instead of a swap file. Such a clever manipulation makes it possible to speed up the read-write procedure, which ultimately will have a positive effect on the speed of the computer and the overall performance of the system.

Not all windows 7 users can increase the amount of RAM in the standard way (by purchasing a new bar). A variety of reasons can prevent this. These are the restrictions imposed by the manufacturer of the chipset or motherboard on their products, and the inability to purchase RAM of a suitable format.

Solution. To expand the computer's RAM, you can use standard USB flash drives and flash cards of the SDHC / SD / MS format. To use a flash card, you need a special card reader that is compatible with the card format. ReadyBoost technology is natively built into the operating system, so you don't have to download and install additional software.

The minimum requirements for drives when using them in ReadyBoost:

  • USB 2.0 / 3.0 support
  • Minimum read speed 2.5 MB / s for information in blocks of 4 KB
  • Minimum write speed 1.75 MB / s for information in blocks of 512 KB
  • Minimum free space 64 MB

Before choosing a drive for ReadyBoost, be sure to check its speed characteristics and make sure they meet the requirements. The use of high-speed flash cards will provide maximum performance gain.

Go to “My Computer”, right-click on the external drive and click “Properties”. Go to the “ReadyBoost” tab. Set the selector opposite the item “Use this device” and use the slider to set the limit for the amount of memory used. Then click “Apply” and “OK”. If you want to grant the system access to all free memory of external media, then set the selector opposite the item “Provide this device for ReadyBoost technology”.

Use this tricky way. We hope it will help you answer the question of how to speed up your computer.

Optimizing power in windows 7

Problem. Very often, when working on a computer, users forget to configure a power plan - a set of hardware and system parameters that are responsible for the power consumption of individual system components. The power plan can be configured to maximize power savings (respectively, to minimum performance), to balance power consumption, or to improve the performance of the computer (maximum power consumption). You can simply forget about this simple parameter and at the same time negatively affect the performance of the system.

This problem is relevant for laptop owners. By default, the system sets up a balanced diet. When the laptop's battery runs out, it is automatically set to power saving mode. Later, when the laptop is connected to the network, few people remember about the economy mode and the need to switch it. So on simple things the speed of the computer is lost.

If you are using a personal computer or laptop (but running on mains power), adjusting the power plan can speed up your computer and improve overall system performance.

Solution. The solution to the problem is to control the power supply mode. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Power Supply" and select the "High Performance" mode.

You can customize the power plan if you want. To do this, select “Power plan settings” -> “Change advanced power options”. We set our values as desired.

conclusions

We have analyzed 8 ways to optimize windows 7 that will help increase the speed of your computer. It is very difficult to fit all the optimization methods into one article, so this is only the first part of the article. In future articles, we will continue to analyze interesting and effective optimization methods, since this topic is quite extensive and interesting.

Optimizing and improving the performance of windows 7 (64-bit)

windows 7 is a complex complex of interaction of many programs, therefore, a huge number of factors affect the operating speed of the OS. You can't just turn off a couple of programs or change one setting to get a significant increase in system performance.

Optimizing your system is a tricky business that requires care and an integrated approach. This article discusses the main steps you can take to improve the performance of 64-bit windows 7.

SSD disk application

If you use not an ordinary hard drive (hard disk), but a solid-state drive as a system disk, then this event alone will quickly and significantly increase the performance of a PC on windows 7 (64 bit). The main advantage of an SSD-disk is the speed of saving and playing data many times faster (500 Mb / s) in comparison with hard drives.

Even loading the operating system from this media takes only a few seconds. At present, all the equipment used in computers is high-speed, only one weak link in the chain of interaction is HDD hard disks, which slow down the operation of the entire system.

Install a new BIOS and check the relevance of the software

The following analysis needs to be done: Are the drivers up to date, does the PC have a fresh BIOS? When installing the drivers, you should take into account the bit depth, i.e. for 64-bit OS, you must download the advisory software for your computer hardware. If there are no drivers for a specific device for windows 7 (64), it is allowed to download the appropriate software for Vista.

Increase RAM

Often, the problem of slow PCs with windows 7 is a banal lack of RAM. The best method to fix the problem is to increase RAM. This event always significantly increases the speed of the PC and leads to the optimization of the OS. In order to ensure comfortable operation of windows 7 (64-bit), at least 4 Gb of RAM is required.

Optimize the interface

windows Aero in "Seven" is the main "devourer" of system resources. Although it only gives some beauty and personality to the external design and is completely unnecessary for work. Significant performance degradation due to Aero occurs on a PC with an insufficiently powerful video card or if it is built into the motherboard.

Turning off all the almost invisible functions of Aero will lead to an increase in performance. To do this, you need to open the "Control Panel", then go to the "System" tab and "Additional system parameters". Next, in the "Additional" tab, find and click on "Parameters".

Here you can disable such functions as: showing the contents of windows while moving, sliding effects, fading menus, animations, casting shadows with icons, cursor and windows, etc. Even disabling only some of the effects will already increase the speed of windows 7, and in the case of an unassuming user, it is recommended to click on "Provide best performance" in the settings.

Optimize the list of startup applications

A significant number of applications are loaded simultaneously with windows 7. The developers of these programs ensure that they are loaded in the background and the owner of the computer does not see them. But this is only needed for utilities that are used constantly.

It is necessary to disable the autorun of unnecessary applications. The following programs must be loaded with the operating system: hardware drivers, firewall and anti-virus utility. To optimize the list of automatically loading applications, hold down the "WIN" key, press "R" and enter "msconfig". Then open the "Startup" tab.

Startup programs can be seen in the system tray on the taskbar. However, not everything is displayed there. A special for windows application "AutoRuns" has been developed, which is distributed freely from the resource of Microsoft Corporation. AutoRuns shows a complete list of downloadable applications. In the window of this application, you just need to uncheck the boxes next to the unnecessary program.

Disable unnecessary services

By disabling the start of some services, you can improve the performance of your computer. To do this, you need to enter the "Control Panel", then into the "Administrative Tools", where in the "Services" tab, select the unnecessary service and click "Disabled".

Defragment disks periodically

With increased fragmentation of data, the hard drive is forced to do unnecessary work, and this affects the speed of the PC. It is recommended to run manual defragmentation to organize files for optimal performance of the hard drive.

Turn off automatic defragmentation

The creators of windows 7 have provided background defragmentation, during which the performance of the computer is significantly reduced. It is necessary to configure the process through the "Start" button. Select the "Standard" line in the "All Programs" tab, then enter the "System Tools", where to find "Defragmentation". To increase the speed of windows 7, it is imperative to regularly perform manual defragmentation.

Get rid of old, unnecessary or outdated applications

Some PC manufacturers release their devices with already installed applications that the user does not need. They slow down the performance of windows 7 because they use up memory and disk space.

It is advisable to rid the computer of all unused applications. This list should be supplemented with programs that have been installed by the user himself, but have lost their relevance over time. A simple action to remove these programs will improve system performance.

Remove unused gadgets

In windows 7, gadgets increase the comfort of using a PC, but they all need system resources to start and function. If you use only gadgets that are necessary for regular use, the system performance will increase.

Restart your computer

Any user can easily follow this recommendation. Rebooting your PC regularly is easy. It is recommended to perform this simple procedure once every 7 days. This cleans up memory and closes some of the failed services, resulting in improved system performance.

How to increase the performance of the windows 7 operating system

The operating system has a rather complex structure. Its work is provided by a huge number of different programs - services and processes. There are many factors that affect the speed and performance of windows 7. This article describes how you can increase the speed of your personal computer.

The physical part of the computer (processor power, amount of RAM, solid state drives) is not considered in the article. Obviously, the better the PC, the more tasks it can solve, and the faster it copes with them. This guide describes the process of fine tuning the system, which will bear fruit on any hardware.

General information

First, you need to figure out what exactly affects the performance of windows. This guide only addresses those factors that can be influenced by any user without the assistance of computer specialists:

Defragmentation

This feature allows you to increase the speed of the hard disk and therefore the entire computer. With the help of a special utility, the system sorts all the information on the media, optimizing the path of movement of the read head.

Over time (as a result of deletion, new files, copying and editing) the data becomes fragmented again, and the process must be started again.

Defragmentation is performed using standard windows tools and special third-party programs. Also in the OS, you can set up a schedule for regular operations at a convenient time for you.

Note! Only the hard disk drive (HDD) needs regular defragmentation. Solid state (SDD) from such a procedure only wear out, not getting any performance gain.

Paging file

The function of the paging file is to compensate for the lack of free RAM on the computer. Some of the contents of the RAM are transferred to the hard drive, freeing up space for critical tasks. If you have a lot of physical memory installed, for example, 16 or 32 gigabytes, it makes no sense to carry out these settings.

To increase the paging size in windows, you need to do the following:

Performance settings

In the windows settings, there is a special section dedicated to increasing the performance of your computer. How to open it is described in the previous section of the guide.

In addition to setting the swap volume, users may be interested in the following options:

Autostart

If you want to reduce the boot time of windows OS and improve performance, it is recommended to disable unnecessary applications from autorun. For example, if you rarely use Skype, you can disable its automatic launch at the same time as the system starts, and enable it only when necessary.

You can control autostart in the configuration menu of the applications themselves. In torrent trackers, clients for cloud storage, instant messengers and other utilities running in the background, there is a special item in the settings.

But it is much more convenient to work with a single list for windows:

Optimizing the registry

To avoid any inconsistencies in the registry, you must correctly install and uninstall all applications. If you still have problems, use CCleaner to clean the registry of junk and bring performance back to the previous level.

The utility can be downloaded free of charge from the official website of the developer - Piriform. Follow the link http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner and click on the green button "Download free version". Install the application following the instructions in the wizard.

In the running program, go to the "Registry" section, and click the "Search for problems" button, and then - "Fix".

Improving the performance of a computer with windows 7 installed

The new powerful computer pleases users with its performance, but over time, the speed of its work is steadily decreasing. In this case, many have a reasonable question of how to speed up a windows 7 computer, but at the same time not spoil anything in the system.

Considering the question of how to configure windows 7, we have already touched upon the problem of using various programs and archives with settings. It was about tweaks - little tweaks that help increase system performance. However, you can do without third-party software.

You can really affect the speed of a PC or laptop using the usual system optimization.

Many windows functions are not in demand among ordinary users, so they can be safely turned off, increasing the productivity of the machine.

Disable visual effects

The beautiful windows 7 interface is a great advantage and at the same time a serious drawback when it comes to optimizing your computer.

Various visual effects place high demands on the hardware, slowing down some of the more important processes.

If you have a low-power laptop or a computer with old hardware, then a drop in performance with the included visual effects cannot be avoided. To fix this drawback of windows 7, you can use the built-in tools and remove all unnecessary "chips".

To bring the interface back to normal, you need to leave the four effects marked in the screenshot enabled. After that, click the "Apply" button and restart your computer for the new configuration to take effect.

Optimizing your hard drive

Files written to the hard disk are divided into fragments that are scattered over the entire surface of the media. This was done primarily for the rational use of free space, but as a result it often turns out that the computer, when the user accesses a specific file, is forced to collect fragments scattered across the entire surface of the disk in a heap.

This also adds a huge number of fragments of already unnecessary (or deleted) files. The result is a decrease in the performance of the hard drive and, as a result, the system as a whole. There are two ways to fix this problem:

  • Periodic cleaning of the disk from temporary and simply unnecessary files.
  • Defragment your hard drive.

Remove from your computer all unnecessary files and programs that take up a lot of space, but are not used for their intended purpose. Leave only the essentials that you can't do without.

To remove temporary files:

After cleaning the system from garbage and uninstalling unnecessary programs, you can proceed to disk defragmentation, which is performed using standard windows tools:

Optimizing your hard drive is one of the most effective ways to increase the speed of your computer. This will be especially noticeable if you have not defragmented for a long time and have not destroyed "computer garbage" for a long time.

Increasing the paging file

Lack of RAM and the impossibility of installing an additional bar often leads to the fact that users cannot qualitatively improve the performance of the machine and are forced to put up with the low speed of the system.

You can expand the paging file using a USB flash drive and Windows built-in ReadyBoost technology.

An ordinary flash drive or SDHC / SD / MS memory card can be used as a storage device. Even a regular smartphone or any other device with built-in memory that meets the following requirements will do:

  • Support for USB0 / 3.0 technology.
  • Free space (at least 64 MB, but usually more than 200 MB is required).

There are still some restrictions on the data transfer rate, but they are quite democratic: any modern drive has much better characteristics than is necessary for the ReadyBoost technology to work.

If you want to provide all the free space for the paging file, select "Provide for ReadyBoost".

Autostart cleaning

Even on powerful new computers, some time after the start of continuous operation, the user notes a decrease in the startup speed of the operating system. First of all, this is due to the large number of unnecessary programs in the autostart, which are added there without the knowledge of the owner of the car.

Various messengers, applications for automatic updates, agents of social networks and other similar programs, during installation, are necessarily registered in startup and run along with the system, taking up resources.

The best solution is to remove all applications from startup except those vital for the system. The latter include antivirus with its own services and system utilities. You can clean up startup using CCleaner:

If there is no CCleaner utility, then use the standard tools:

In windows 8 and 8.1, this operation can be performed on the Startup tab in the Task Manager.

Registry and RAM check

Tails left after uninstalling programs in the registry negatively affect the performance of the system, which leads to a decrease in the speed of the computer. The solution is simple - periodically clean the registry using the CCleaner utility mentioned above.

If you have never cleaned the registry, then after the very first "cleaning" you may notice a serious acceleration of the system.

Do not forget about the RAM, which may also have various failures that affect the final performance. To check the RAM, use the built-in "Diagnose problems of the computer's RAM" tool.

Choose the first option, which means reboot and check. Remember to close all programs.

The scan can be quite long, so do not schedule any computer-related tasks for its time - it is not recommended to interrupt the diagnostics, as this can lead to serious errors.

Power supply parameters

The minimum number of users remembers about adjusting the power settings, although this is one of the important components of adjusting the computer's performance. Typically, a power plan has three modes:

  • Maximum savings - minimum productivity.
  • Balanced energy consumption.
  • Maximum energy consumption - maximum performance.

Switching the power mode is especially important for laptop owners. By default, the system is set to balanced mode, but as soon as the battery runs out, the power saving mode is automatically activated, which reduces performance.

When the laptop is connected to the network for charging, the economy mode does not switch, although there is no longer any need for it. On such trifles, users lose moments, which then add up to a noticeable slowdown of the computer.

If you are working on a computer or laptop that is constantly connected to the network, then be sure to configure the power supply scheme:

  1. Go to the "Control Panel".
  2. Find the Power Options section.
  3. Select the "High Performance" mode.

If necessary, you can customize the scheme for yourself by clicking on the "Power plan settings" link. On the "Additional parameters" tab, you can set your own values.

Enabling all processor cores

It is now almost impossible to find a working computer with only one core; modern machines have 2 or more cores available.

Usually the operating system automatically checks the type of processor installed, but it often happens that only one core is used at boot.

You can fix this flaw on your own:

Now, when the operating system starts, all processor cores will be used, which will significantly speed up the boot process.

Replacing thermal paste

Another useful tip that can seriously increase the speed of your computer is to replace the thermal paste on the processor.

How to put a password on a program in windows 7

Over time, a huge number of unnecessary files accumulate on the computer, as a result of which the performance of the hard disk decreases. The longer the computer is in use, the lower its performance. While some responsibility for slow computer performance lies with the age of your computer, there are a number of steps you can take to speed up processing and loading of the operating system.

Steps

Part 1

Disable startup programs
  • The tabs are at the top of the Task Manager window; the Startup tab lists the programs that are launched when the OS boots.

  • Click on the process you want to disconnect. Please note that disabling the process will not completely block the corresponding program - its autorun will be disabled.

Click Disable. It's in the lower-right corner of the Task Manager window.

    • Or right-click on the process and select Disable from the menu.
  • Repeat the described steps for each program that you want to disable autostart. For example, the following programs take up a significant amount of RAM: Skype, Steam, and most antiviruses.

    • If you are unsure which programs to disable, take a look at the Startup Affect column on the right side of the Task Manager window. It is recommended to disable any program with the High or Medium setting.
  • When you're done configuring startup programs, close Task Manager. To make your changes more effective, clear the Hidden Icons menu.

Open the Hidden Icons menu. To do this, click on the upward arrow on the right side of the taskbar (to the left of the clock).

Review the Hidden Icons menu. This menu often contains icons for programs that run in the background (such as Dropbox or Google Drive). Completion of such programs will free up RAM, which will lead to an increase in computer performance. You can close programs directly from the "Hidden Icons" menu.

Right click on the icon of the program you want to close. For example, if you are not using a cloud storage service client, close it.

Click Exit (at the bottom of the context menu). In most cases, you need to confirm the decision to end the process; to do this, click "Exit" again. Repeat the described steps for each program you want to close.

    Part 2

    Disable visual effects
    1. Open the start menu. It is located in the lower left corner of the screen. The visual effects of Windows 8/10 are designed with the performance of modern computers in mind; if one of these versions of Windows is installed on an older computer, its performance will be significantly degraded. Therefore, it is recommended to turn off visual effects.

      • Or press the key ⊞ Win to open the Start menu.
    2. In the search bar for Control Panel, enter "customize appearance". The search bar is located in the upper right corner of the Control Panel window.

Click Customize Windows Look and Feel. This option is located in the System group (in the upper left corner of the Control Panel window).

Review the visuals. There are several options in the menu that opens:

      • "Provide the best view." Enabling this option will activate all visual effects, that is, to the result that is the opposite of what you want.
      • "Provide the best performance." Most of the visual effects will be disabled and the computer's performance will increase.
      • "Special Effects". In this case, uncheck the boxes for the effects you want to disable. For optimal performance on your legacy computer, it is recommended that you turn off all visual effects.
    3. Choose the option that best suits your computer. For an outdated computer, check the "Special effects" option and disable all visual effects; keep in mind that the "Provide Best Performance" option will work for most mid-range computers.

Close the Performance Options window. You will notice that the design of the system has become poorer, but its performance has increased.

      Part 4

      Remove unnecessary programs
      1. Open the start menu. In this menu, you can find a list of installed programs; just scroll through the list to see all the programs.

        • There are also folders in the list; they usually include several programs at once, so open each folder and view its contents.
      2. Remove unnecessary programs. For example, programs for reading news or listening to radio broadcasts are usually unnecessary because they can be swapped out for better programs or web browser extensions.

        • If the operation of the OS depends on a certain program, such a program cannot be removed. However, most system programs consume a minimum of computer resources.
      3. Right click on the application you want to uninstall. A context menu will open.

Click "Delete" and then confirm your choice. The program will be removed immediately (that is, you do not need to open the Programs and Features window).

        • You may have to click the Next button (at the bottom of the context menu) to access the Delete button.
      4. Remove any unused programs. As a rule, computers running Windows come with a large number of preinstalled programs, utilities and plugins, some of which can be safely removed.

Change the preinstalled programs to others. For every preinstalled program, there is at least one alternative program:

        • Change your Microsoft Edge browser to Chrome or Firefox. These browsers are fast and easy alternatives to Edge.
        • Replace Groove with iTunes. Groove cannot be uninstalled, but it is far more computer resource-intensive than iTunes.
        • Replace the preinstalled media player with VLC. VLC processes data faster, plays almost any video format, and has a simpler and cleaner interface than Microsoft's default media players.
      5. Reboot your computer. The described methods should lead to an increase in computer performance.

      • Treat your computer properly, for example, charge the battery in time (in the case of a laptop) and shut down the computer regularly. This will extend the life of your computer and improve its performance.
      • Scan your system for viruses or malware at least once a week; do this with antivirus and other appropriate programs. This will prevent viruses and malware from overloading your processor.
      • Make sure the computer is running in high performance mode. If power saving mode (or similar) is activated, the system will not be able to handle powerful programs or games. To find out the operating mode, click on the battery-shaped icon on the right side of the taskbar.
      • If the computer is more than two years old, it is quite difficult to install a new operating system on it (for example, Windows 10). Typically, the latest versions of Windows are optimized for the latest technology, not hardware that is three or four years old.
      • Although the browser is not a computer component, clear its cache and cookies to speed up the loading of web pages.
  • Perhaps all users have at least once accused their computer of slow work, while not thinking at all that there are many opportunities to speed it up. Many people think that improving PC performance is difficult and only available to advanced users, but this opinion is not entirely true. Yes, there are methods to improve performance that require a lot of skill in working with a computer, but there are many very simple ways to "overclock" a PC. Every user should know about these methods. In this article we will tell you about them using the example of the most popular version of Windows today - you will find out how to speed up Windows 7.

    Disable Windows 7 visual effects

Disabling Windows 7 visual effects is the simplest and most affordable way to improve system performance. To complete this procedure, follow the instructions:

    3. A new window will open in front of you, in it, click on the "Advanced" tab and in the "Performance" section, click the "Options" button.

    4. In the "Options" window that appears in the "Visual effects" tab, you will see how many visual effects are available in Windows 7. Of course, thanks to them, the platform looks more interesting and nicer, but they do not slow down the speed of its work.

    5. To disable all visual effects at once - set the "point" in the "Provide the best performance" box, and if you want to disable the effects selectively, uncheck the desired windows.

    6. Everything, for the changes to take effect, you must click "OK" and restart the PC.

    Disabling unnecessary audio

Along with visual effects, to make the user more pleasant to work with a PC, Microsoft has also created system sounds. Surprisingly, they also require certain resources, and turning them off can have a positive effect on the performance of Windows 7.

    To turn off visual effects:

    1. Press the combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "mmsys.cpl" and click "OK".

    2. A new window will open in front of you, select the "Sounds" tab, set the sound scheme "Silent", click "OK".

    3. Restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

    Disabling the search indexing option

For users who often search for something in the system, Microsoft has provided a very convenient search indexing option, making it easier and faster to find files. However, if you rarely use search in the system, this option is completely useless and only "steals" the performance of Windows 7. To disable it, do the following:

    2. Expand the list of "Services and applications", click on the line "Services" and find the Windows Search service in the list on the right.

By default, you can also disable the following services [screenshot below], as practice shows, they rarely benefit the average home PC user.

    Removing "unnecessary" programs from startup

Windows has an autorun option. She is responsible for launching a number of programs at the same time as the system boots. These programs include, as a rule, various services and applications, without which the correct operation of the PC will be impossible. But, unfortunately, completely unnecessary third-party programs are often added to these programs.

The thing is that third-party software developers include an autoload function in their products, thus making their program more "intrusive". However, when it comes to launching an antivirus along with the system, it makes sense. However, there are many programs that run with Windows when there is no need to do so. Of course, this affects the speed of the PC.

To remove the program from startup, you must:

    1. Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "msconfig" and click "OK".

    2. A window will open, select the "Startup" section in it.

    3. Uncheck the boxes of those programs that you do not need to start at startup.

Remember! Without some startup programs, the system will not be able to function correctly, so uncheck only those programs that you are sure are unnecessary.

    4. Click OK and restart your PC.

    Optimizing your hard drive

At the beginning of the article, we mentioned that we will talk about simple ways to improve the performance of Windows 7, and, for sure, after reading this heading, you thought that we had already gone into the wild, but this is not the case. We will tell you about the simplest optimization of a hard drive and try to explain in an accessible way why it is required.

The fact is that all files that are written to the hard drive are broken into fragments according to a certain law. This is required in order to maximize the efficient use of PC resources. However, it turns out that when a user accesses a particular file, the system has to collect its "pieces" all over the hard disk. If a lot of unnecessary files have accumulated on your disk, this, of course, significantly slows down the process. That's why optimizing your hard drive is a must when it comes to speeding up Windows 7.

The first and most logical way to perform optimization is to delete unnecessary files and programs. Each user has a lot of "garbage" stored on his PC and it is important to get rid of it regularly. Of course, anyone, even the most "zero" user, knows how to delete files, but sometimes problems arise with programs, although this task is not difficult. To uninstall a program from your PC:

    4. You will see a list of the programs you are using, decide which of them you no longer need and uninstall them - to uninstall, click once on the "unwanted" program and click the "Uninstall" button.

    5. After removing all unnecessary programs, restart your PC.

Another necessary procedure for optimizing a hard disk is defragmenting it. A difficult word, but it is performed simply:

    1. Go to "Computer", right-click on the disk, select "Properties" in the drop-down menu.

    2. In the window that appears, select the "Service" tab, then click on the "Run defragmentation" button.

    3. After defragmentation, restart your PC.

If your system is split across multiple disks, defragment each one. Important! The defragmentation procedure, as well as the procedure for removing unnecessary files, must be carried out regularly.

    Optimizing your meal plan

This method of accelerating Windows 7 is relevant for laptop users. Very often, when disconnected from the network, laptops automatically switch to a lower power consumption mode, which, of course, corresponds to the minimum performance. Therefore, it is very important to switch to high performance mode when returning to the network. Nobody, of course, prohibits the use of this mode during autonomous work, however, keep in mind that the laptop in this case will be discharged faster.

    To enter high performance mode:

    3. Select the "Power supply" section.

    4. Put a dot in the "High performance" box.

    Changing boot options

By default, at startup, the system does not use all its resources, this is necessary so that the "cold" hardware is not loaded to the maximum. However, if your PC has more than 2 GB of RAM and more than one cores, you can change the boot settings, thereby significantly speeding up the boot process. For this:

    1. Press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, write "msconfig" and click "OK".

    2. Select the Download tab, check the No GUI box.

    3. Next, click the "Additional parameters" button, in the "Number of processors" and "Maximum memory" boxes, check the boxes, set the maximum value and click "OK" first in the "Advanced boot parameters" window, then in the "System configuration" window.

    Outcomes

    Instructions

If the cooling system is efficient enough, you can proceed to overclocking. To do this, go to the BIOS (press the DEL, F2 or F1 key during boot, depending on the board model). Find the tab with characteristics. It can be called in different ways, how exactly, you can read in the instructions for.

Final frequency processor is the result of multiplying the bus frequency by the so-called factor processor... Accordingly, overclocking processor you can exercise by simply increasing the multiplier. However, in most modern ones it is. The exceptions are the Black series from AMD and the Extreme series processors from Intel, in which the multiplier value can be changed.

    note

The operation to increase the processor performance over the manufacturer's declared one is called "overclocking". It should be dealt with with caution, since overclocking the processor leads to an increase in heat dissipation and to an increase in the load on many computer systems. Before starting overclocking, make sure that the cooling fans are working properly and are providing the correct level of cooling. If the processor temperature in normal mode exceeds 50 degrees, it is contraindicated to overclock it without upgrading the cooling system.

In most cases, you should not increase the processor frequency by more than 20 percent of the nominal.

At the time of purchase, your personal computer is not running at maximum power. But you can independently, without the help of a professional programmer, increase performance your PC.

    Instructions

To raise performance computer, you need to "overclock" the processor. You can perform this operation through the BIOS. Restart your operating system and click the “Delete” button. In the menu that appears, you need to find the option that is responsible for the frequency of memory operation. Most often, this section is called Advanced Chipset Features or POWER BIOS Features, if your PC does not have this name, then check the name of the section responsible for memory timings in the instructions.

Set the minimum value. This is necessary in order to avoid a crash when overclocking the processor. Now find the AGP / PCI Clock option in the BIOS of your personal computer and set the value equal to 66/33 MHz.

Open the POWER BIOS Features. It is responsible for the FSB frequency (for the speed of the processor). Start increasing the value by 10 MHz. Save the parameters and reboot the system. Check the stability of the processor using the CPU-Z program. If everything is working properly, then increase the frequency by another 10 MHz. Follow this procedure until normal processor operation is not affected. Then decrease the value by 10 MHz and save.

To raise performance your personal computer, you need to defragment the disk. Go to "Start" - "All Programs" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" and select the "File Defragmenter" application. Specify the required partition of the virtual disk and click the "Defragment" button.

You can improve the quality of your computer using Disk Cleanup. Go to "My Computer", right-click on the desired virtual disk and open "Properties". Click on the "Disk Cleanup" link.

When working on a computer, users are often faced with a situation of excessive processor load. The image on the screen is redrawn extremely slowly, programs run very leisurely. To work again become comfortable, it is necessary to find and eliminate the causes of excessive processor load.

    Instructions

Increased processor load can be caused by a variety of reasons, ranging from unnecessary startup programs to errors in the operating system. To identify the cause of the computer malfunctioning, open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del), look at the total processor load and its load by specific processes.

More often than not, overloading is caused by a single process. Determine which program it belongs to, and if the process is not needed, close it. The operating system itself will not allow you to stop critical processes, so do not be afraid to spoil anything. As a last resort, you just have to restart your computer.

If you cannot understand by the name of the process which program or service it belongs to, use the AnVir Task Manager or Everest (Aida64) programs. Open the list of processes in one of these programs, find the one that is loading the processor and look at the path to the executable file. Having determined what it is, you can already decide what to do with it - keep, replace or delete.

Increased processor load can be caused by a large number of programs loaded at computer startup. Many installed programs tend to register themselves in startup without the user's permission, so regularly check the startup list and remove unused programs. To uninstall, use the Everest program: launch it, open the "Startup" section and remove unnecessary programs.

To remove programs from startup, you can use the standard msconfig utility. In Windows XP, open: "Start - Run", enter the command msconfig and click "OK". In Windows 7, open: Start and type msconfig in the search bar. In the window that opens, select the "Startup" tab and uncheck unnecessary programs, save the changes.

In order to speed up the operation of the operating system, disable unnecessary services: "Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services". Find information on which services can be disabled in your version of the OS on the Internet.

One of the most frustrating causes of excessive CPU utilization is an operating system error. In this case, in the Task Manager, the main processor load falls on the System. This sometimes happens with unlicensed versions of the OS and their "modified" assemblies. After the start, such a system can work normally, but at some point the processor load jumps to 100% and does not decrease anymore. The best option in this case is to replace the defective OS with its serviceable version.

Sometimes an antivirus program gives a high load on the processor. If this happens temporarily, with a peak load of up to 80-90%, then everything is in order. But if the antivirus constantly and excessively loads the system, replace it with another one.

A slow computer can infuriate even a very calm person. It is not necessary to change a slow machine to a new one - it is enough to find out which component is reducing its performance and carry out an upgrade.

    Instructions

There are two reasons for performance degradation computer: Insufficient processing power of the processor and too little random access memory (RAM). The second of these reasons reduces speed work indirectly: when a resource-intensive application is launched, which is not, it begins to use the hard disk for temporary data storage. This process is called swapping. Data exchange with the hard disk is much slower than with the RAM. Look at the hard drive activity indicator to determine what needs to be upgraded. If the "braking" of the machine is accompanied by active calls to the drive, it is necessary to increase the amount of RAM, and if not, replace the processor.

Do not resort to increasing productivity in ways that are detrimental to the equipment. If the processor is overclocked, it will overheat. This does not mean that it will fail immediately, but its reliability will be significantly reduced. Overclocked processors often let users down for one to two years. Also, do not create swap partitions (on Linux) or swap files (on Windows) on a USB stick. It works faster than a hard drive, but still slower than RAM, and the active rewriting of information in the same cells causes intense wear and tear on the drive.

Before going to the store or the market, carefully write down the name of the motherboard. Tell the seller about it, and then tell what exactly you want to buy: memory modules (DIMMs) or a processor. In the second case, also buy quality thermal paste. Unplug the machine before upgrading. It is not enough to simply put it into standby mode: some nodes, in particular the same memory modules, can be supplied with power in this mode as well. To remove the memory module, spread the latches to the side, and to install, insert it right side into the slots in the latches and press down on it. The latches will come together automatically. Replacing the processor, if you have never performed it before, entrust a specialist. A skewed radiator or improper application of thermal paste can damage an expensive component. If you have changed or added RAM modules, check them for errors with Memtest.

Inexperienced users may mistake the slow speed of data exchange with the global network for "slowing down" the computer itself. To increase it, change your provider or switch to a more expensive tariff plan (within your capabilities). It must be unlimited. Sometimes equipment can also serve as a limiting factor, for example, replacing an EDGE modem with a 3G modem in the presence of base stations of the corresponding standard will significantly increase the data transfer rate.

So he ? File fragmentation is a very common occurrence in the Windows operating system, especially if there is a frequent process of writing to or deleting files from the disk. As a result of this process, different parts of the same file may end up in different places on the hard disk, and the operating system spends more time accessing the file, which affects overall performance.

The defragmentation process — arranging the structure of files on — helps speed up the performance of your computer in terms of reading information. Defragmentation can be performed both by regular programs of the operating system and by third-party ones.

The problem is more rare, but it does occur - registry defragmentation. The Windows registry is a place where programs and the operating system itself store data important for work, various settings, and so on. The registry is essentially a collection of operating system files. Defragmenting the registry boils down to arranging the structure of these files on the hard disk in such a way that the computer is not reading information.

The operating system has a master file table (MFT). This table stores information about all files on the hard disk. MFT has a fixed size, and there can be a lot of files on the disk. If you frequently delete files and then add them again, a situation arises where the MFT becomes fragmented. If such a problem occurs, the computer starts to slow down due to the difficult access to the main file table. In these cases, it is recommended to delete unnecessary files. These files include:

    1. Temporary Internet files (cache, cookies, log, history)

    2. Various temporary program files

    3. Temporary operating system files

You need to delete such files, understanding what we are talking about. Accidentally deleting an important file can cause the next Windows startup to fail. Most often, in this case, they resort to the help of special programs.

Computer performance can be affected by viruses. It is recommended that you use any antivirus program to fix this problem.

If you notice that yours, then start activities to improve its performance. Competent and timely implementation of the actions described above is the key to normal and fast operation of your computer.

Good afternoon, dear Internet users! Crap. I almost went nuts. Yesterday there was a pile of snow, which today I barely got to work. Did you ask for snow? Keep snowing. What really. I asked myself, to be honest. Anyway. Let's get closer to the topic. Surely, each of you once wondered how to improve the performance of your computer. Yes, it happens that it freezes, slows down where necessary and where not. I even want to hit the computer. But we are kind, intelligent people, and we will not do this. Isn't it true?

Improving performance with built-in Windows tools is a snap. Let's try together.

    1. Go to the control panel in any way convenient for you and find the "System" item, or right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties".
    2. So, we are in the properties of the system. Select "Additional system parameters" in the left block of the menu.
    3. Now, in the window that appears, go to the "Advanced" tab, if you are not already in it. And in the performance section, select "Options".

These parameters will help you to significantly improve the performance of the operating system. Verified personally!

This whole booth begins with setting up visual effects. This function will allow you to change the appearance of the main menu and openable windows inside the OS. This step should not be overlooked because it will help to speed up Windows performance. If you set "Best performance", then all the effects will be removed at all, and if there are special parameters, then you yourself choose what you need and what not. Try it, experiment with the settings yourself. You will definitely not break anything here). Well, how is everything working out? So that's great!

    Cleaning up the hard drive

Now let's clean up the hard drive from unnecessary things. You need to clean the hard drive regularly to remove temporary files, as well as free up space for the most useful, required materials.

    1. Go to "Computer" and right-click on the drive where Windows is installed (most likely drive C). Select properties there.
    2. In the window that appears, in the "General" tab, click on "Clean up hard disk". After that, information will be collected and evaluated.
    3. When the collection of information is over, you will be presented with the "Disk Cleanup" window. There you will be shown how much potential system junk you have that you can get rid of. You can check the boxes everywhere to delete all unnecessary files. Or, for example, leave temporary Internet files. It stores information about the sites that you visited, etc. And don't be afraid to delete anything. There is really preliminary garbage here and it will not harm the system, rather the opposite.

In general, this procedure also significantly increases system performance. So do not lose sight of this point.

When windows is loaded, that some programs are loaded with it automatically. And when there are a lot of such downloaded programs, this significantly reduces the performance of the PC, because they are already loaded and consume resources, and they are not even interested in whether you are using them at the moment or not. Therefore, it is better to remove some programs from startup, then PC performance will increase again.

With your permission, I will not tell you about this in this article, since I talked about this in detail before. But this process is also very useful for speeding up the computer, since we do not overload our comp with various garbage. So remove everything you don't need from startup.

    Disk Defragmenter

From time to time you need to defragment your disk. When you install and then uninstall various programs, it always leaves traces in the form of clogged clusters, so when you install new programs, they occupy clusters in a scattered way, i.e. those that are free at the moment. Due to the fact that these applications are not located in one place, but are written to different areas, the execution of many processes is slower than it should be.

In order to organize all these clusters and put everything together, distribute everything on the shelves and into place, you need to defragment the disk. But I will talk about defragmentation in my next article, as I would like to write about it separately.

    Third-party programs (Soft)

I personally use not only the basic programs, but I also “dabble” in what you can download, buy on the Internet:

    • CCleaner. A magical tool for quickly cleaning the registry, other and unnecessary junk. Probably does not need an introduction. In another article, I will describe in detail how to use CCleaner to speed up your computer and get rid of junk.
    • Unlocker. It will help to delete any, even the most capricious file.
    • Glary utilites. Includes everything you need to speed up the OS and optimize it. Better to try than talk. Checked!

    Iron

Of course, one of the most effective means of increasing productivity is replacing parts. In general, the modernization of any hardware in the computer will only benefit him. But the first step is to increase the amount of RAM.

To do this, you need to see how much RAM you have at the moment, what type of memory (DDR, DDR2, DDR3) how many slots for these strips, what is the maximum volume of one module and, of course, the maximum amount of memory in general. Based on this, you can add more memory than and speed up your comp. I already wrote an article about that, so take a look. Everything is written in detail there.

By the way, do not forget your system, because if you have 4 GB of RAM, and the system is 32-bit, then you should not increase the volume, or only if you reinstall the system to 64-bit.

Also, the speed depends on the hard drive. For maximum effect, it is best to install the system on an SSD. They are much faster than conventional ones, but of course more expensive.

And of course, the processor and video card will not stand aside, especially if you play games. But a good card doesn't come cheap, so watch it. But I would classify the replacement of iron as a last resort, if nothing else really helps or

These are the simple and proven ways to improve the performance of your PC. But this is only a small part of the ways to improve performance. In the next articles I will definitely tell you about other ways to increase productivity. If you want to dive deeper into this and other topics, then be sure to subscribe to blog updates. I will look forward to seeing you on my blog again, and I, in turn, will write new and, I hope, interesting and useful articles for you.

And by the way, I would highly recommend you to take a look great video course on productive work at the computer. The course is very interesting and thanks to it you will be able to work effectively at the computer, speed up your usual work, and also make it much easier. Take a look.

Well, on this cheerful note, I say goodbye to you. I hope that my article was useful to you. See you in the next articles. Bye Bye!

    Best regards, Dmitry Kostin
