How to remove unnecessary samsung apps from your phone. How to uninstall preinstalled system apps from Android

Android smartphones are undoubtedly very popular. They are attracted primarily by their open platform, user friendliness and, of course, the abundance of opportunities for.But nevertheless, the android that comes in the basic configuration of many phones has a whole set of preinstalled software.

The overwhelming majority of this is software produced by Google. And it's no secret that google's main business is collecting our private information. Google tirelessly collects information about us, searches are carefully logged, movements are tracked, and passwords, letters and contact information are stored for years to come. All this is an integral part of modernity, but we can well change it.

Today I will tell you how to remove google programs from your phone, replacing them with open-source counterparts and thereby significantly increase the level of your privacy.

It's no secret that any Android device (at least one that is certified by Google) contains not only components assembled from AOSP, but also an impressive number of proprietary Google programs. These are the same Google Play, Gmail, Hangouts, Maps and a bunch of applications, including a dialer and a camera (starting with KitKat).

For all these components, not only the source code is missing, but in general there are no explanations about the principles of their operation. Many of them were originally designed to collect certain types of information and send them to Google's servers. For example, GoogleBackupTransport, which is responsible for synchronizing the list of installed applications, passwords and other data, behaves like this, GoogleContactsSyncAdapter, which synchronizes the contact list, or ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter, whose job is to synchronize browser bookmarks. Plus the collection of information about all queries in the search engine.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with the fact of synchronization, and it is a great mechanism that allows you to set up a new phone in a matter of minutes, and Google Now even manages to give us useful information based on our data (sometimes). The only problem is that all this destroys our privacy, because, as Snowden showed, under the hood of the NSA (and, most likely, a bunch of other services) is not only some evil empire called Microsoft, but also Google, and also many other companies from the “we are not evil, but fluffy patrons” crowd.

In other words: Google will merge us all without any problems, and it's not a fact that its employees, sitting in their offices with masseuses and dogs, are not laughing at the names from your contact book (everything is encrypted there, yes) while drinking 15-year-old pu-erh from Yunnan province. Or maybe to hell with this Google? Let's take their Android, and let them go through the forest?

What is Google Apps

The latest version of KitKat-based custom firmware for my smartphone weighs 200 MB, however, in order to get a real experience from a smartphone, I also have to flash a gapps archive over it, the size of which is 170 MB. Only after that I will get a system similar to the one preinstalled on Nexus devices, with all the goodies in the form of a desktop integrated with Google Now, a screen lock based on a face shot, a camera with spherical shooting support and a kilogram of Google software, from Google Play to Google. Books.

I repeat once again: all this is closed software from Google, which in an amicable way cannot be distributed at all without their knowledge (therefore it is not in custom type firmware), but since it is quite simple to extract it from the firmware of Nexus devices, you can find a huge the number of such archives, including heavily truncated ones. In order to release an Android smartphone with a set of gapps on board, the manufacturer must send it for certification to Google, which, evaluating the quality and performance of the smartphone, will either give the go-ahead or kick off football (but this does not stop the Chinese at all).

This is how Google Apps gets to the smartphone. 99% of users either use pre-installed applications, or install them on their own on a completely clean and completely anonymous firmware. And then, from the moment you enter the username and password, synchronization and information drain begins.

To figure out how this happens, let's unpack the same archive with gapps and take a look inside. We are interested in the directories / system / app and / system / priv-app, when installed, their contents are copied to the directories of the same name inside the smartphone. The second directory is a KitKat innovation, invented, apparently, for storing private applications accessible only to the administrator (owner) of the device and invisible to other users registered in the system.

In the / system / app directory, we will find a large number of different Google applications, easily recognizable by the package name: Books.apk, Chrome.apk, Gmail2.apk, and so on. Each of them will share information in their own way, but this is absolutely normal (yes, Google will know that you are reading Paulo Coelho through their app!). The biggest danger here is GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk, which is only responsible for sending a list of contacts to a remote server. We write down the name in a notebook and move on.

Most of the files in the / system / priv-app directory are the services and frameworks needed to run this whole sync and spy thing:

  • GoogleBackupTransport.apk - synchronizes the data of installed applications, Wi-Fi passwords and some settings;
  • GoogleLoginService.apk - connects the device with a Google account;
  • GooglePartnerSetup.apk - allows third-party applications to access Google services;
  • GoogleServicesFramwork.apk - a framework with various auxiliary functionality;
  • Phonesky.apk - Play Store (oddly enough);
  • PrebuiltGmsCore.apk - Google Services, as the name implies, is the core of the entire gapps suite;
  • Velvet.apk is a Google search that includes a desktop search bar and Google Now.

In essence, this is the part of Google Apps that is responsible for leaking our private information. Let's try to get rid of all this.

Method number 1. Disable through settings

The easiest way to untie a smartphone from Google is to use the standard system settings. The method is good in that it does not require root rights, nor the installation of custom firmware, nor custom recovery. Everything can be done in any stock firmware without losing access to your account and applications like Gmail (if necessary). However, no one will vouch for the effectiveness, since it is quite possible that some gapps components will continue to send data.

The main location for sync settings is in the Settings -> Accounts -> Google -> [email protected]". Here you can turn off things like syncing contacts, app data, Gmail, Play Music, Google Keep, and more. All you need to do is simply uncheck the desired menu items. Next, go to the "Settings -> Restore and reset" menu and remove the checkboxes from the "Data backup" and "Auto recovery" items.

Many sync settings are also handled by the Google Settings app, which is part of Google Services. With its help, in particular, you can turn off Google access to a location ("Access to geodata -> Access my geodata / Upload geodata / Location history"), disable sending personal data to a search engine ("Search -> Personal data"), turn off Google Now ("Search -> Google Now") and disable remote control ("Remote control -> Remote device search / Remote lock and reset").

In the same "Google Settings", by the way, you can disable any application that uses a Google account for authorization. In this case, we are talking not only about the software installed on the device, but in general about all the applications that have ever been used, including websites. For example, I found many sites on this list that I hadn't visited in at least a couple of years.

In the event that you are not going to use Google services at all, it will be easier to disconnect your smartphone from your account completely, that is, simply delete it through the settings: "Settings -> Accounts -> Google -> [email protected]-> Menu button -> Delete account ".

Most Google applications can be painlessly disabled through the settings: "Applications -> ALL -> desired application -> Disable".

Method number 2. Cleaning the official firmware

In the event that the stock firmware has root permissions, you can get rid of Google Apps by simply deleting them from your smartphone. As I said, they are all stored in the / system / app and / system / priv-app directories. For example, in the case of KitKat, the list of Google apps in the first directory will look like this:

  • Books.apk - Google Books;
  • CalendarGoogle.apk - Google Calendar;
  • Chrome.apk - Google Chrome;
  • CloudPrint.apk - cloud printing system;
  • Drive.apk - Google Drive;
  • GenieWidget.apk - news and weather widget;
  • Gmail2.apk - Gmail;
  • GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk - synchronization of contacts;
  • GoogleEars.apk - Google Ears (analogous to Shazam);
  • GoogleEarth.apk - Google Earth;
  • GoogleHome.apk - home screen with integrated Google Now;
  • GoogleTTS.apk - speech synthesis system;
  • Hangouts.apk - Google Hangouts;
  • Keep.apk - Google Keep;
  • LatinImeGoogle.apk - keyboard with gesture support;
  • Magazines.apk - Google Magazines;
  • Maps.apk - Google Maps;
  • Music2.apk - Google Music;
  • PlayGames.apk - Google PlayGames;
  • PlusOne.apk - Google+;
  • QuickOffice.apk - QuickOffice;
  • Street.apk - Google Street;
  • SunBeam.apk - SunBeam live wallpaper;
  • Videos.apk - Google Movies;
  • YouTube.apk - YouTube.

The / system / priv-app directory, in addition to those listed above, also stores the following files:

  • CalendarProvider.apk - stores calendar data;
  • GoogleFeedback.apk - sends a report on the use of Google Play;
  • GoogleOneTimeInitilalizer.apk - wizard for installing additional Google applications;
  • SetupWizard.apk - setup wizard at first launch;
  • Wallet.apk - Google Wallet;
  • talkback.apk - voice notification about events on the device.

The Gapps kit for KitKat, among other things, also includes a proprietary camera with support for spherical shooting and a proprietary desktop with integrated Google Now.

But that's not all. Google Apps depends on several frameworks, which are located in the / system / framework directory. These are com.google.android.maps.jar, com.google.android.media.effects.jar and com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar files. There are also many libraries in the / system / lib directory that are used exclusively by Google applications. You don't have to delete them, but you can. Just to clear the trash. You can find a list of them on in the comments.

In the past (and in future) versions of the system, the content of Google Apps is different, therefore, before uninstalling, I recommend downloading the gapps of the required version from the goo.im/gapps website, unpacking it using WinRar and viewing the contents. You should also take into account the dependence of some applications from the market on Google applications, I will talk about this in more detail later.

Method number 3. Custom firmware without gapps

The previous method can be greatly simplified if you simply install custom firmware on your smartphone without Google Apps. In this case, the smartphone / tablet will be crystal clear without any link to Google. The disadvantage of this method is the lack of Google Play, but you can either replace it with a third-party app store (more on that below), or use the following method, which includes installing a stripped-down version of Google Apps.

Method number 4. Google Play and nothing else

This way of partially decoupling from Google is kind of a compromise. It does not solve the problem of tracking - at least without the settings from the first method - but it allows you not to clutter up the system with a bunch of useless software that will hang in the background and eat up memory. The bottom line is simple - we install a custom firmware and fill it with a minimalistic version of gapps, which includes only Google Play.

There are many such minimal assemblies of gapps on the Web, but I would recommend using the time-tested BaNkS Gapps, namely the file "month-day GApps Core 4.4.2 signed.zip ". They work on any smartphone, are ART compatible, and only include the core gapps files listed in the What are Gapps section, framework files, and a few libraries. Basically, it's Google Play, sync tools and nothing else.

Changing the search engine to DuckDuckGo

Even after you turn off sync completely, the “built-in” Google search bar will remain on the home screen. In the stock firmware of some manufacturers (Samsung, for example), this is just a widget that can be easily removed from the screen. In pure Android and devices from many other manufacturers, it is "sewn" into the home screen, but you can remove it by turning off all search from Google (along with Google Now) using the menu "Settings -> Applications -> All -> Google search -> Disable "or by installing a third-party launcher. Then just download DuckDuckGo from the market or another app store and add the widget of the same name to your home screen.

Third party market

The second and third methods involve completely getting rid of Google Apps, including Google Play and the ability to login using a Google account, so we must find a way to easily and conveniently install applications that would not force us to download them ourselves, and then throw them on a memory card and install manually. One such way is to install a third-party marketplace.

At the moment, there are three more or less viable alternatives to Google Play. These are Amazon Appstore, Yandex.Store and 1Mobile Market. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages, which mainly boil down to the number of apps and payment methods:

  • Amazon Appstore is the most famous app store after Google Play. Contains over 75 thousand applications (compared to 800 thousand on Google Play), the quality of each of which is manually checked, just like in iTunes for iOS. You can pay with a credit card or Amazon Coins, which are given as a gift for buying a Kindle Fire tablet or as a gift from another user. One of the most interesting features of the store is the daily giveaway of one of the paid apps.
  • Yandex.Store is a store from the Yandex company. Contains more than 85 thousand applications, each of which is scanned by Kaspersky Anti-Virus. It does not stand out in any way, but it has a killer feature in the form of the ability to pay for purchases using the Yandex.Money service or a mobile phone account.
  • 1Mobile Market is the largest third-party repository of Android applications, including more than 500 thousand software. It differs from others in the presence of exclusively free applications (not to be confused with pirated ones), which is why it allows you not to go through the stage of registering an account and maintain anonymity.

Apps in all three markets have original digital signatures from app developers, which allows them to be used simultaneously. An application installed from one market can be easily updated from another, and when removed, it will disappear from the list of installed ones at once in all. However, you will have to buy separately.

... It is completely anonymous and contains only free software distributed under licenses approved by the FSF. There are only a thousand applications in F-Droid, but all of them are guaranteed not to contain backdoors and other systems of disclosing personal data. It is F-Droid that is used as the default market in the free Android Replicant firmware.

Solving the problem of application dependence on Google Apps

Despite the fact that gapps components are not part of the official Android API, some applications still expect to see them in the system, which can cause a number of problems - from the complete inoperability of the application to the loss of some of its functions. Some applications will refuse to install due to the lack of the Google Maps API, others crash right after launch without detecting it, and others include direct links to Google Play, which can lead to crashes and incorrect operation.

To solve these problems, user MaR-V-iN with XDA started the NOGAPPS project, which is developing a set of open source components that replace the original functionality of Google Apps. Three replacement components are currently available:

  • Network Location is a geolocation service based on Wi-Fi and GSM base stations. Based on Apple's IP address database and open base station database;
  • Maps API - replacement of the interface to Google Maps based on OpenStreetMap;
  • BlankStore is an open source alternative to the Play Store client. Allows you to install free applications from the Google store, but is not recommended for use due to possible sanctions from the search engine (this is prohibited by their rules).

The components are installed separately and in different ways. It is enough to manually copy the Network Location to the / system / app / directory in Android 2.3–4.3 or to the / system / priv-app / directory in KitKat (in this case, use the NetworkLocation-gms.apk file). The Maps API is installed by flashing the nogapps-maps.zip file via the recovery console. To install the market, you will have to not only copy the file, but also generate an Android ID on a large machine, but since this is not recommended, I will not talk about this and will confine myself to a link to the instructions.

After all the manipulations, the software should work correctly.

conclusions

For Google, Android is useless without its own applications, so it is not surprising that the company puts the most delicious parts of the system into them and leaves the code closed. However, in this article I showed that there is life without gapps and it can be even easier and more convenient than with Google.

Last updated by at January 27, 2017.

You buy a new smartphone, turn it on, and a bunch of unnecessary programs are already installed there. It can be difficult to understand what these applications are for and whether they can be painlessly removed or disabled. When I bought it, out of 32 gigabytes of internal memory, about ten were free. The rest of the space was occupied by preinstalled programs.

In this article I will tell you which applications can be disabled on Android without any special consequences. I will not consider removing the system software, because in most cases you need root access to do this. If you decide to get root, the Debloater program will easily cope with the task of uninstalling. You can download it on the playmarket or w3bsit3-dns.com.

I have collected data on Samsung Galaxy devices (as I own one of them) into a summary table of applications that do not affect the phone's performance (with a description). And you yourself decide what to do with them. But disabling or removing unnecessary garbage will help increase the performance of your mobile phone.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that if you press the "stop" button, the program can subsequently restart automatically. And if "disabled", it does not restart until you enable it manually. Some can neither be disabled nor deleted.

Mordokniga pays smartphone manufacturers to embed the application into the firmware. The mobile client allows you to keep abreast of your friends' events all the time, track likes, and annoyingly notifies you about every sneeze. At the same time, it consumes a lot of resources and constantly sits down the battery. Unfortunately, in my Samsung, this infection is not removed. But you can turn it off, which I did immediately, since I don't use this social network at all. If there is a special need, I can activate the application for a while.

Weather applications

The weather widget is also often built into the phone's operating system. It worked for me for 3 months, and then it stopped updating the data. From this program, I always need only two parameters: air temperature and precipitation. If you need meteorological maps and other little things, then you do not need to uninstall the program. In other cases, it is advisable to get rid of the unnecessary gluttonous application that every minute tries to connect to the server. I failed to do this on the A5.

You can always check the weather by looking out the window. And if you need a forecast, Google is a good predictor.

Antivirus software

Antivirus is needed if the phone is rooted, you constantly conduct experiments and install dubious hacked applications from unknown sources. Otherwise, such protection is not required. Antivirus will also eat up memory and slow down the system unnecessarily.

If you have any suspicions, install an antivirus and after checking, uninstall it. My phone has a built-in one, which I also disabled.

Clean Master and other system optimizers

The software for "speeding up" the phone, contrary to expectations, slows down the phone. Miracles do not happen, despite the assurances of the developers of these programs. Most "cleaners" are only harmful. On my Samsung A5 2017, there is an "Optimization" section in the settings, where everything happens at the touch of one button. Most phones have tools for clearing the cache and remnants of remote software. And you don't need to install additional programs.

Default browser

Almost every self-respecting phone manufacturer develops and implements its own Internet browser into the firmware. It may contain spyware or sponsored links. But even if they are not there, this does not mean that the browser is good. Disable it or uninstall it.

It is best to install Google Chrome - a simple and fast browser. If you care about privacy and do not want to clutter up your phone space with accumulating cache - your choice is Firefox Focus, a private browser that leaves no traces.

For the rest of the applications, I made a small table. Here is everything that can be disabled without affecting Android.

A note about updates

Let's say you didn't turn off anything - let them work for themselves. Automatic shutdown of background applications helps to avoid fast battery discharge. But these programs are also being updated! And in this case they devour not the operative memory, but the internal one. Therefore, I went ahead and disabled auto-updates through the Play Store. I regularly manually update only those applications that I actually use.

Android smartphones have a lot of unnecessary pre-installed apps and programs.

Therefore, many people are interested in the question of how to uninstall system applications on Android.

Standard software packages are often unimportant and meaningless for the average smartphone user.

They only take up space in the phone's memory, which can be used for really necessary applications.

In addition, useless system apps run in the background, draining battery power quickly.

After all, in order for this software to work normally, RAM is involved.

Because of this, Android begins to slow down the speed of execution of the given commands, which leads to the freezing of useful programs.

Therefore, everyone can remove unnecessary applications in a timely and quick manner.

Programs for uninstalling standard applications

Removing applications on the Android platform is not possible if the operating system of the device is "clean", as it is protected from any tampering.

An ordinary user is denied access to all system files.

To uninstall applications, you need to get Root access to the device, as well as a file manager.

Permission to delete files can only be granted with special rights. If they are partial, then the desired actions will not work.

They must be complete without fail.

Each user can find instructions for installing and using Root access directly to his phone.

But there are also universal versions of the program, including Kingo Root, ES Explorer, Framaroot.

Almost all versions of the Root program can be downloaded from the Internet absolutely free.

In Google Play, you need to download any program for Android, thanks to which you can remove unnecessary applications.

Installing Root Explorer on Android

To remove useless applications on an Android device, first of all, you need to select a program with which you can perform the specified action.

After the explorer has been accessed and installed, you should give it Root access.

To carry out this procedure, you need to start the program and open the "Quick Access". Then you need to go to the "Tools" folder and click on the "On" button in front of the explorer.

For example ES Explorer. After installing the program, you must enable the Root Explorer item. Then you need to:

  • confirm actions;
  • go to settings;
  • in the APPs item in the ROOT-rights column, select the items "Data backup", "Uninstall automatically".

After configuring the program, you need to go to the root folder of the phone, then go to the system / app folder and select the programs that you want to uninstall.

Removing standard applications

You can uninstall on Android such system applications .apk as:

  • standard alarm clock, calendar;
  • calculator;
  • mail client;
  • player and clock widgets;
  • data transmission interface;
  • voice search and dialing;
  • reference;
  • player and much more.

In this case, the PlusOne.apk application is removed - Google+. Here you need to find it and click on the pop-up "Delete" button.

It is quite difficult to recover deleted programs, and sometimes it is simply impossible.

In some cases, seemingly insignificant applications are responsible for the functioning of important and necessary services on the device.

Advice: Before uninstalling system applications, you should make sure that you no longer need them. In addition, you must not uninstall programs that may cause the device to malfunction.

It is also necessary to delete the file with the same name in the .odex format, if there is one.

In Android 5.0 and higher devices, all standard applications are concentrated in separate folders, so you just need to select and delete them.

It should be remembered that when applications on Android are uninstalled, ES Explorer automatically cleans up folders and files that are associated with the uninstalled application.

If you need to free up space in the internal memory of the smartphone, then you need to clear the data and cache through the application settings and only then delete the unnecessary software itself.

The era of the unprecedented heyday of computer technology sets its own pace for life. And now a man of the XXI century cannot imagine his existence without a smartphone, tablet and other such useful and irreplaceable devices. Sooner or later, the owner of a fashionable gadget has a question that worries hundreds of users of one of the most popular Android operating systems how to remove unnecessary applications. Sometimes such a seemingly simple task can become a serious problem. This article will tell you how to uninstall an application on Android, while saving your time and nerves.

How to uninstall an app on Android

Very often, in the process of using the device, the owners find that the device's memory is littered with a large number of unused applications. This inevitably leads to clogging up the RAM, increasing power consumption, and simply to the elementary mess in the files and inconvenience of use due to the heap of "extra" icons. If you want to get rid of an application that you installed yourself, then it will not be difficult. There are several options:

1. Method "for dummies".
If you are new to using Android devices, the easy way is for you. It is necessary to open the tabs "Menu" / "Settings" / "Applications" (the latter may also be called "Application Manager", "Application Management"). Select the application you want to uninstall and click the corresponding button.
Attention: when using this method, the inconvenience is that the list contains all applications, including system ones. If there is no “Delete” button on the screen, then, most likely, the selected application is standard, and the algorithm for working with it is somewhat different. (For information on how to remove standard android applications, read below).

2. Using special programs
Programs such as or allow you to quickly and easily uninstall applications that were installed on Android by the user. They are more convenient in that they do not include standard applications in the list.

3. Using the file manager.
The file manager menus usually contain a tool that you can use to remove installed applications. For example, others are suitable for this.

4. Through the "Google Play Market".
The Market application must be launched. Downloaded programs can be seen in the "My Applications" tab. The delete function is also available there.

How to uninstall stock Android apps

If in most cases there are no problems with removing user applications, then the answer to the question about android how to remove system applications has its own nuances.
Be prepared for what you need with access to the system files folder. (Note: obtaining Superuser rights is possible using various special programs, for example, Kingo Android ROOT or Unlock Root). If you have any, you can clean your android device from unnecessary applications without any extra effort.

So, consider below 2 ways how to uninstall preinstalled android apps:
1.Using a file manager that supports displaying hidden system files. One of the most popular is. After installing it, you just need to enter the / system folder, find the required application in the / app subfolder and delete it. (Please note: many applications have not only the .apk file, but also the .odex file. In this case, you must delete both of them).
2. Using special programs such as or. You need to install the program on your device and follow the instructions.

Attention: It should be noted that experts do not recommend deleting system applications permanently, but resorting to "freezing" them. This can be done in the standard "Settings". Select the "Applications" tab, then click on the required program icon and "Disable". Thanks to these actions, the application will not be displayed on the device, but it can be activated at any time.

If you did not know how to uninstall Android system applications, or thought it was impossible, this information will tell you the main ways to solve this problem.

If it seems to you that the device's memory is getting smaller and smaller, and the reason is the numerous programs and games installed from Google Play, then it's time to say goodbye to unnecessary junk. In today's article, you will learn how to uninstall unnecessary applications, system programs, and those programs that do not want to be uninstalled in a standard way.

There are several ways to uninstall applications that you installed while using the device.

Method one: Using the basic settings of the device

Method two: Using the Google Play app store

Method three: Using shortcuts on the desktop / in the main menu

How to uninstall system programs on Android

Devices "out of the box" come with a huge set of proprietary software and these applications will not always be used by you. Some take up too much space at all, but they are of no use. Now we will tell you how to get rid of system programs in a simple and effective way.
