How does a 4k TV show live channels. Compression and transfer

When you search for video-related events, an incredible number of "superspecialists" will pour out a bucketful of terms related to new technologies at you. And information about streaming, 4K, quantum dots, HDR and more. But if you try to find out which of them had to use at least some of this, then the bulk would prefer to remain silent.

Or there will be excuses about the lack of content. But is this statement true? After all, the implementation of 4K TVs has been going on for many years. Surprising as it may seem, one has to agree that it simply could not be otherwise. Justify? Please.

For starters, let's recall the information that everyone has access to. On the vast expanses of the Internet today, of course, it is possible to find content that has 4K (UHD) resolution. But in very small quantities. Despite the fact that the first UHD TVs were released 6 years ago, the production of films with this resolution did not begin more than a year ago.

Of the total available number of only 35 such films in Russian. If this figure is multiplied by a factor of 4.5, then the total amount of this product will be obtained. And none of them can be officially implemented on the territory of Russia. They can only be ordered from abroad.

4K UHD movies that can be found on discs

I must say that many users do not understand the meaning of purchasing this product. However, also in world wide web a film with the required resolution a little more. And 95% of them, laid out on torrent trackers, are ordinary fakes! Video capture is used to make these rips. HDMI output on the UHD player.

Quirky authors of such films, if I may say so, have even become available to programmatically add HDR labels to their products. The presence of these proposals is explained very simply: they are born by the presence of demand. But it has nothing to do with the original discs. For this reason, these rips look like a high-quality aspscale Full HD video.

Is there any hope of getting enough 4K movies? We think so. And if so, then it's time to get the most sophisticated TV model. That is, the usual 4K will not work. Without fail, Smart TV must be present on it, otherwise it will not be possible to see 4K content.

Moreover, it was Smart TV that was the impetus for the appearance of 4K video on TV screens. And you should definitely pay attention to it when choosing a TV model. This is the cornerstone on which the development of progress in this area is based, capable of ensuring its future. Therefore, the conversation will go on about him.

Smart TV as a source of 4K UHD video content

The Smart TV project was destined for the role of a panacea for the crisis, the wave of which began to overwhelm both individual producers and television as such, at the final stage of the 2000s. The latter lost its status as an operational means of obtaining information, and this applied not only to news.

With the help of a computer, the user got access not only to the choice of any point of view, but he could also get acquainted with it at any time convenient for him. There was an active outflow of cinema and video products to the Internet. To prevent this, they tried to impose a ban on torrents, but nothing came of it.

Companies such as Netflix, VooDoo and TiVo became the recipient of income instead of owners of cable networks. This led to the fact that users began to treat an ordinary TV as an anachronism, which, like a push-button telephone, can provide only one function.

That's when the concept of Smart TV was born. Much has been said about how to use it and how it looks. We will only repeat the main points. The TV has a main menu. Due to the availability, users are provided with access to online broadcasts, programs and movie libraries provided by online cinemas or provider.

Some of the films offered are paid. There is a choice of video quality, subscription and much more. To avoid problems with the speed of the hardware, everything is based on cloud technologies.

That is, the TV does not download the program, but only a hyperlink of video services, games and everything else. To avoid limiting the capabilities of TVs, they were translated into full-fledged WebOS, Tizen, Firefox, Android OS.

Where to get 4K UHD content?

For those who have already purchased a 4K TV, this question is very popular. Therefore, let's try to figure out what is available now, and what should be expected soon.

Online cinemas with movies in 4K resolution

Online media services and programs for viewing 4K cannot keep up with the requirements of the time, and for this it is necessary to constantly increase the list of content offered. Next, we list those of them that offer really high quality material.

YouTube

If it is not the largest media portal (Google), then it is certainly one of them. On it, the appearance of an outlet to the retail network of Ultra HD television receivers was marked by the addition of support for 4K resolution. Watching videos from ultra high definition becomes available when you select 2160p in the setting. Immediately after that, an incredibly detailed picture is reflected on the screen. To be honest, this cannot be called real 4K, since the video is compressed by the service. This is justified by the real need to reduce the size, as well as increase the speed of streaming.

Netflix

This is also a well-known service to users, despite the fact that it has become available in our country recently. They are offered a fairly extensive selection of video content in Ultra HD format. There are popular series and movies. Its video library is ready to provide everyone with content that can demonstrate the full power and beauty of the latest technology.

Services are paid, and the cost is quite high. To be able to view 4K movies, a subscription is required. For it will have to pay eleven dollars every month. But for this money, all restrictions on the amount of material viewed are removed.

In addition, a potential user is offered a free trial period, to realize the need to subscribe or unsubscribe.

Okko

Domestic services are also trying to keep up. Already today you can find a number of 4K films on Okko, and development in this direction continues. The service is paid.

Ivi

This is an online cinema, the repertoire of which is constantly updated with material with ultra-modern resolution. Its difference from the previous service is that there is no fee for watching a certain number of films in Ultra HD.

Megogo

This media resource has a section that contains free content very high definition. It can be accessed by viewers with LG and Samsung TVs running Tizen and WebOS. The library currently has more than twenty online films in UHD format with HDR support.

Briefly about other sources of 4K UHD content

Of course, one of the significant providers of UHD content should be considered camcorders, action cameras and cameras used in smartphones. Almost all of them today have access to shooting with a resolution of 3840 by 2160.

UHD TV

INSIGHT - new satellite channel in Ultra HD format

In today's Russian realities, 4K television is offered by Tricolor TV. True, the number of channels on it is not very large, but when did we implement something so quickly? So this looks promising.

Android TV box as a source of 4K UHD content

The modern market is increasingly filled with Ultra HD TV-boxes. To explain this phenomenon is very simple if you look at the cost of Blue-ray discs with 4K UHD movies. Take, as an example, , Its work is provided by Android TV 7.1. Supports all popular formats and handles UltraHD movies as well as HDR-enabled videos with ease. That is, it could become good way out for everyone who does not have good hardware that can provide access to the capabilities of the highest definition display. And its cost at the same time does not exceed sixty dollars.

Watching a 4K TV (showing four times the resolution of HD) is like a discovery. In a cityscape video shown at a Samsung press conference earlier this month, one could see separate windows in most buildings, and individual people entering and exiting skyscrapers. With eight million pixels, the grid structure is very hard to see (unless, of course, you're looking from a very close distance), and the image itself looks like a sharp photograph, but only in motion.
However, the world that can be seen on the screens of 4K TVs is, in to a large extent, is just an illusion - perhaps created from several clips shot with high-end movie cameras.
The price is key factor that keeps us from immediately buying a 4K TV (which is so called due to the fact that its screen diagonal is about 4,000 pixels). Typically, such a TV costs at least twice as much as an HD TV of the same class and capabilities (same size, with a high-quality panel, Internet access and the same set of features). However, even if you imagine that money does not play a role for you, or that prices suddenly dropped unexpectedly (and this is not fantasy - small companies are already selling models for more than low prices), there are still four reasons that should make you put off buying a 4K TV.

Lack of 4K content

There are currently no Blu-ray discs, video streaming platforms, TV channels, or even more or less user-friendly camcorders on the market that support 3840x2160 pixels. And this is the first reason to postpone the purchase of a 4K TV and wait a bit. However, the wait can be quite long.
Currently, TV equipment companies are trying to provide some kind of limited quantity 4K video on players containing hard drives. Sony, for example, offers 4K/UltraHD media player, on the hard disk of which 10 films are recorded in 4K format. The device sells for $700. Sony also promises to provide an opportunity to download up to 100 additional films to the player from the network by the end of the year (one can only dream of streaming viewing - the file sizes are quite impressive). However, $700 is too much money to spend on a device that can only show a small selection of movies.
Samsung plans to introduce a similar media player with a hard drive inside in the near future.

Few additional benefits
for regular HD content

Currently, 4K TVs can upscale any HD video to 4K by "building up" the image with additional pixels based on assumptions about their content (just like when you watch an ordinary old DVD with video on an HD screen). standard definition). The results look quite acceptable on some TVs, such as Sharp's 69.5-inch (1.8 meter) AQUOS Ultra HD LED TV. This model is certified by the THX lab for zoom quality and costs $8,000. However, if you move closer to the screen (as far as the pixels will allow you), you will notice the grainy structure of the upscaled video.
Even upscaled video on a 4K screen will allow you to comfortably sit closer to that screen than you would with an HD TV, but not close enough to be worth talking about. The Chamber of Standards at the International Telecommunication Union recommends viewing a 4K screen from a distance of at least one and a half times its height (so as not to see individual pixels), and in the case of HDTV, it is desirable to sit at a distance that exceeds the height of the screen by at least three times.
Thus, if you have a 55-inch (1.4 meter) TV - the size of Sony and Samsung's entry-level TVs - you should sit 1 meter away from the screen if it's a 4K TV, or about 2 meters away from the screen. screen if it is an HD TV. And so, if you do not want to sit closer than 2 meters from the TV screen, you should not spend extra money. Samsung, for example, has only recently begun selling 55-inch 4K TV models, and they cost $5,600. At the same time, the most best model An HD TV from the same company with the same diagonal costs $ 2,800 (in addition, there are cheaper models in the 55-inch line from Samsung).

4K video may be choppy

Unfortunately, you will not be able to see on your 4K screens in perfect quality not even a large number of video in 4K format, which is available on the market today. This is because even the most latest models HDMI cables (version 1.4) are not able to transfer such a large amount of data without problems. Most HDTVs receive signals from devices like Blu-ray players at 60 frames per second. However, when transmitting video at four times the resolution via an HDMI cable, the only way out is to halve the frame rate. But you must admit, at a speed of 30 frames per second, the video will not be so smooth.

4K video may suffer from a lack of colors

Another compromise is in the color details. Due to restrictions bandwidth channel connection via HDMI 1.4 can carry a 4K signal, in which color data is trimmed to 8 bits (256 shades) for each of the three pixel components (red, green and blue). Combinations of these primary colors give a spectrum of 16.7 million color shades. This may seem good at first glance, but modern LCD panels are capable of displaying a 10-bit color palette (about a billion shades). Thus, over a high resolution the video will coexist with a relatively poor color palette.
However, engineers and scientists are already working on solving these problems. A new version The HDMI interface, which will be called HDMI 2.0, will be capable of transmitting 4K video at 60 frames per second. However, transmission improvements color palette, most likely not foreseen until the next updates to the interface standard.

Here are some basic facts about the new HDMI standard 2.0:

  • Permission [email protected]/60, (2160p), which is 4 times the picture quality of 1080p/60.
  • Up to 32 audio channels will help you achieve the effect total immersion into a wide range of sounds.
  • Audio sampling rates up to 1536 kHz will help you achieve the highest purity of sound.
  • Possibility simulcast dual video stream for multi screen.
  • Simultaneous transmission of multi-stream audio for multiple users (up to four).
  • Support for wide angle theatrical video with 21:9 aspect ratio.
Dynamic synchronization of video and audio streams.
  • Extended CEC bus offers more control and monitoring options from a single point various devices consumer electronics.

The prospect of a new HDMI interface standard is a warning to those who buy TVs and other electronics containing HDMI ports today standard type. Although some companies will be ready to upgrade the block of ports of equipment produced today. For example, all Samsung 4K TVs have an external unit that contains video input ports and performs some processing of this signal. In the event of the emergence of new standards for input interfaces, the user will only have to purchase a new unit.
However, this is not such a good way to get the consumer to pay at least twice as much for a TV for which there is not much native content today, which shows this content with some "twitch" and a lack of colors, so that over time, with the advent of new improved technologies, pay again - already for an upgrade of your model. Moreover, by that time, 4K TVs on the market will in any case cost much less.

Tricolor TV Company, being the largest satellite operator, regularly launches new services. Thus, 4K channels on Tricolor TV became available to subscribers. To date, six channels with the highest definition have already been launched. The 4K Ultra HD format is significantly superior in quality to the standard Full HD, the picture is clearer, richer, almost with the effect of presence.

Features of the new format

The ultra HD package contains six channels with a maximum high-quality image. Complete lack of advertising best films and exciting shows. In the process of viewing, you feel like a spectator in the hall, and not in front of regular TV. A similar effect provides ultra format. The following channels are available in the package:

Given that great amount users want to watch Ultra HD on Tricolor, in the near future the list will be expanded.

How to connect to these channels

To watch 4k, you will need to first acquire the following elements:

  1. Television.
To fully enjoy this format, you need a TV equipped with a satellite format tuner. Often these are models with a screen of 48 inches UHD 4K Flat Smart TV HU8500 Series 8. They are found in the LG and Samsung lines.
  2. Receiver.
this format is not supported. Of course, it can be activated and configured, but you will not feel much change.
  3. satellite dish and necessary elements for connection and installation.

You will also need a Conditional Access Module CI+ in combination with a smart card and with the One package. It is this kit that will open access to the desired channels.

Which receivers support Ultra HD

On the this moment receivers supporting 4K Ultra HD are presented in a limited range. The company offers its users the GS AC790 model. It supports the desired format, although outwardly an unremarkable prefix. However, if you carefully read the characteristics, the user gets a fairly functional device with a wide range opportunities. At the same time, the GS AC790 is quite inexpensive and very easy to set up.

get similar model can be done on favorable terms, with a decent discount. Tricolor TV, both before and now, is holding a promotion on. Other models include the Gigablue HD Ultra UE and VU+ Solo 4K. Also quite powerful set-top boxes that support the desired format.

Making a connection

If you have all the necessary equipment, now you can figure out how to connect desired package channels. You will need to do the following:

  • go to settings and install Eutelsat satellite 36B, and also set the following parameters - 12360 R SR 27500 and DVB-S2 8PSK FEC ¾;
  • go to Personal Area, where we activate the desired Tricolor One package. Its connection will cost 1200 rubles per year;
  • now we leave the equipment in working condition for 8 hours.

After all these manipulations, the user will have access to the clearest TV broadcast at the moment.

In conclusion

Understanding how to watch Ultra HD TV is easy. First of all, you need to get all the equipment - a TV and a receiver. Subsequent settings are made in normal mode, you only need to set desired parameters. In a few hours you will be able to enjoy a flawless picture on your TV screen.

electronics stores and household appliances crowded with panels and monitors with a resolution of 4K. The picture on the demo videos is really impressive, and the price of equipment has ceased to be "space". But isn't it too early to buy 4K? CHIP has analyzed the situation and is ready to help with the selection of 4K content, as well as tell you how you can still use a super-clear TV.

What is 4K

In various contexts, 4K refers to resolutions that have about 4000 horizontal pixels. It can be 4096x3072, and 4096x1716, and 3996x2160 pixels. However, in relation to television and television content, the 3840x2160 pixels (16:9) format approved by CES in 2012 is usually meant. This format received the marketing name Ultra HD (that is, in fact, UHD and 4K are not the same thing).

Strictly speaking, Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD, or UHD) does not uniquely define panel parameters. To use this designation, the characteristics of a TV panel or other device must be no worse than some kind of “mandatory minimum” prescribed by CES: in addition to the minimum resolution and aspect ratio, they indicate the ability to scale HD content up to higher resolution, the presence of at least one HDMI input, which supports video transmission at a frame rate of 60 fps, and also describes the features of working with color. So in perspective, 8K panels can also be marked with the UHD logo.

In order not to create confusion, further in the article both under 4K and UltraHD we will mean a TV format of 3840 × 2160 pixels (16:9) with appropriate color support (HDR). At one time, Toshiba predicted that 4K would become the main resolution in the television industry. From the point of view of sales of such models, this is probably true. But in terms of content, things aren't all that great so far.

Is 4K necessary when HD is available?

The need for 4K resolution is not a matter of taste or fashion. First of all, it is determined by geometry. large resolution is needed where the panel dimensions or viewing distance are such that Full HD is not enough - in this case, the viewer is beautiful picture distinguishes individual pixels in its composition.

The graph below clearly shows how to determine the viewing distance, which shows all the details of the image, but not the pixels themselves. You can also evaluate whether it's worth watching Ultra HD at your usual viewing distance and budget. For example, we only have enough funds for 50 inches, and the distance to the sofa is three meters. Using the graph, we get that 4K has no advantages and Full HD will be enough.

Based on these considerations, until quite recently it was believed that it was pointless to buy 4K panels with a diagonal of less than 50 inches. But it all depends on the details. If the interior allows you to move the sofa (armchairs) closer, then why not switch to a picture of a new quality. Similar graphs are built for people with average vision. This should be taken into account by those who wear glasses or, conversely, have unique eyes (in last case the distance from which you can actually see the difference will be higher).

The second reason to buy a 4K TV is HDR, or wide dynamic range, that is, a greater coverage of the color spectrum. The picture on such a TV will look richer. Going back to identification accuracy, HDR is not mandatory application 4K, but included in the concept of Ultra HD.

4K is like a fashion for 3D?

Quite often we hear that 4K resolution is the same marketing "bubble" as 3D. However, it is not. 3D is a niche solution, primarily due to the fact that the viewer is forced to wear special glasses. This is not comfortable for everyone - many complain of fatigue from an additional device, pain in the head due to low-quality content, etc. This was confirmed by a study by specialists from the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University, conducted in 2015 (you can read more). There are technologies for displaying 3D content without glasses, such as autostereoscopic displays, but so far their development has been held back. insufficient capacity embedded processors.

Today, chips are capable of creating three-dimensional images for only a few viewing points, but for comfortable use of technology, they need many more. It is possible that in 5-10 years we will see the return of 3D to the TV market in a more convenient version.

With 4K, the story is quite different. This technology does not require additional devices- here you need only the relevant content (films and clips), of which quite a lot has already been released. No eye fatigue and headaches (no more than from watching regular TV). At the same time, due to the constantly evolving built-in image scaling algorithms up to 4K, even a low-resolution picture will look better on the new panel than on an “original” resolution TV (at the same distance from the TV screen).

But most importantly, the transition to 4K, according to many industry representatives, is a logical, and perhaps the only way to develop. If 3D in existing version- just an attraction, then 4K is a new reality.

Compression and transfer

The advent of 4K video pulled the development of codecs. Popular three or four years ago, H.264 simply could not provide streaming movies in UHD via existing networks. This is how H.265 (HEVC - High Efficiency Video Coding) was born, designed for video resolutions up to 8K. This standard was discussed and developed for quite a long time (2004-2013), but today it has already been implemented everywhere and provides a serious reduction in bitrate with the same subjective quality of the transmitted moving picture.

The benefits of H.265 do not appear out of thin air, but due to higher computing power, so the introduction of the new codec was a little behind the needs of the community. But then electronics caught up, and now even H.265 is supported budget models TVs. Recall that back in 2014 it was believed that the power of an average computer would not be enough for this, not to mention consumer electronics. Now H.265 is supported by almost all new processors at the hardware level, including consumer players.

If you become the owner of a camera with a UHD resolution, then you will need a package for professional editing Magix Vegas Pro 15 (about 950 rubles), and as an alternative, you can use Ashampoo Movie Studio Pro 2 (about 950 rubles).

To connect a device capable of transmitting UHD content to a 4K TV, you will need HDMI port 2.0If we are talking about transferring 4K content to a TV with external source, such as set-top boxes, computers, etc., it must be borne in mind that only HDMI interfaces version 2.0 and DisplayPort. It's worth remembering that HDMI 1.4 does not support 60fps, but manufacturers still feel free to put this version on some low-end 4K TVs.

And to receive 4K from the Internet, you need a channel that provides a stream of 15 Mbps or more (depending on the service, encoding, etc.).

Where to get 4K content?

Our research on the Internet has shown that there is still little 4K content, especially in Russian.

Ether experiments

Few people know, but theoretically, Muscovites and residents of the nearest suburbs can watch a 4K channel directly from the air. Although in digital multiplexes there was no place even for HD content. A year and a half ago, RTRS launched test broadcasting of the channel in Ultra HD format (resolution 3840×2160 pixels and multi-channel sound) in the DVB-T2 standard. The topic was actively discussed immediately after the launch of the channel - it was even presented at the relevant XX International NAT Congress in 2016.

However, the project has not received any development so far. Accordingly, the status test broadcast is not clear (it is known that at the end of 2017 enthusiasts were still receiving a signal).

Just in case, here we provide the data necessary to receive it. You may be able to test it yourself. The experiment goes to 58 television channel(frequency 770 MHz). For reception, you need a TV that supports both DVB-T2, HEVC (i.e. H.265) and UHD.

Channels from other sources

Until recently, 4K channels were available only from satellite, and even then not with all operators. Now they are gradually infiltrating cable networks. Most often they are included in basic package, because so far UHD is an exclusively fashion event.

However, at the time of this writing, the total available channels in Russia there were less than a dozen, including fashion, entertainment, extreme sports. There are a few movies and series (although there is still little content for these channels). You can't call it diversity.

When looking for 4K channels on a satellite or with your cable operator, it is important to understand that new format should support not only a TV panel, but also intermediate equipment - a set-top box, a CAM module (depending on what is used in the cable network).

Should we expect in the near future a massive transition of the usual (linear) TV channels to 4K? Hardly. More recently, they have needed investment to implement high definition (HD), and for that they need another upgrade of equipment - not only cameras, but also servers and video processing software.

However, the world's leading sporting events have been filmed in 4K for several years now (here the frame rate of 60 frames / s is especially great), the world's main manufacturers of educational programs, film and TV series producers are also switching to this resolution. So there will definitely be more content.

OTT services

Russia already has several legal services supporting 4K. First, it's Netflix. Although initially this service has been skeptical about monetizing cinematic resolution, and now offers a separate premium subscription option that includes 4K content. One problem - for the most part it is in English.

Much better with the localization of the Okko service. Here, at the time of writing, you could already watch about 60 4K films. In addition, 4K supports IVI and other cinemas. Already, there are more than a dozen such resources, and new ones appear regularly.

Streaming video from online services

This is perhaps the most affordable way watch professional content in a new resolution. But the rights to 4K are quite expensive, and monetization from the point of view of the services themselves is still doubtful, so many of them, like cable operators, treat this area of work as an image one and are not eager to broadcast everything that has ever been released in ultra high definition. Yes, and HDR is pretty tight here.

The situation is a little easier with videos from non-professionals (some video bloggers have already switched to 4K, ahead of the whole industry). 4K videos have been supported by YouTube since 2013 (4K downloads were available earlier - from 2010), a couple of years later Vimeo joined it. By the way, here you can find not only bloggers. Some quite professional studios present their products here - for example, there are a lot of children's cartoons on YouTube.

Inexpensive Android media boxes are capable of playing UHD videos and movies with external media, however, on streaming video through wifi power not available for all models.

To watch videos from the listed sources, it is not necessary to have a separate PC for the TV. Built in Smart TV TV, depending on the manufacturer, may have applications for the respective services. An alternative path is an additional set-top box (game or television) that connects to the Web and provides access to content.

Such devices are already available not only from large manufacturers (Apple, NVidia, Microsoft), but also from companies from China (Xiaomi, etc.) for quite reasonable money. Attachments are widely used game console NVIDIA Shield TV running under Android control TV that does a great job of broadcasting 4K.

Ultra HD Blu-ray

Media capable of storing ultra-high-definition films appeared on the market. In 2016, the Ultra HD Blu-ray specification was finally approved. Discs released from that moment with the appropriate marking, in theory, should comply with the standard. Interestingly, the standard itself is still being finalized (in particular, support for HDR10 + and SL-HDR2 from Philips / Technicolor was recently introduced there), so if you need such details, you should pay attention to them.

Not any Blu-ray player is suitable for viewing such a disc, but only one that meets the specification. Both players and discs are already available in Russia, but their price is quite high. At the same time, the assortment of films is not yet encouraging. Even in specialized stores, considering all the items that are out of stock, when counting the quantity, it is hardly possible to reach 50.

Other 4K apps

As the review of the 4K TV market showed, among available models there was not one without Smart functions TV. Expand opportunities smart TV You can use the console on Android. In such devices, almost all applications from the online market are available. Google Play. The choice of other media and game consoles quite large, as such platforms try to keep up with the leaders, but their development ecosystem is more modest. If it is not possible to install an online application, then the option remains to play media content from external and network media using the built-in player.
