The following issues that occurred in Windows in high-resolution modes have been fixed:
if a font size of 150% or more was selected in the Windows settings, the font size in WinRAR help was not increased accordingly, due to which the text was displayed too small;
the default column widths in the WinRAR file list were smaller than expected when the Windows font size was set to 125% or larger.
Interface improvements for right-to-left languages:
correct text alignment in simple WinRAR requests, for example, when confirming deletion of files from an archive or clearing a report;
"OK", "Cancel", "Help" buttons in dialog boxes with several tabs, such as those with archiving and extraction settings or the WinRAR settings window, are correctly aligned and translated into the default language used by Windows.
Bugs fixed:
The WinRAR SFX module could load DLLs from its own executable folder as a result of calling certain Windows API functions. This was fraught with a security risk if DLL files with malicious code were stored in the folder with the SFX archive. The SFX module now takes additional steps to prevent this situation in Vista and newer versions of Windows. Keep in mind, however, that this problem is still relevant for those who do not have the latest security updates installed on their system, as well as for Windows XP users, so they need to be especially careful: when running an SFX archive, you need to make sure that the folder with it does not contain malicious DLL files;
WinRAR 5.30 could not run .lnk files from the file list.

1. "Files to process" option on the "Time" tab in the archiving window
allows you to select files based on modified, created, and
last access. Previously it was only possible for time
changes.
2. Keys -ta, -tb, -tn, -to on the command line can be supplemented
modifiers "m", "c" and "a" after the key name. In this way,
temporal conditions may include not only the time of change, as it
was in previous versions, but also the time of creation and the time of the last
access.
Such a key can be supplemented with any number of modifiers to specify
the same date for all specified times. For example, if you specify the key
-tamc20190215, files modified and created after
February 15, 2019.
The new modifier "o" allows you to switch from logic AND (AND) to
OR (OR), thus, if you specify the -tamco20190215 key, then there will be
files modified or created after February 15 are included in processing
2019. It is also allowed to be specified on the same command line
several time-filtering keys with different dates, for example:
-taco20190201 -tbmo20190210
The -ta and -tn switches also include files in processing that have exactly
the given date matches. The -tb and -to switches exclude such files.
3. In the list of WinRAR files, creation times and
last access, if available.
The columns for creation time and last access are disabled by default.
They can be enabled in the "Select columns for file list" window. To
to open it, right-click on the column headings of the list
or click the "Columns..." button on the "File list" tab in the group
"Files" in WinRAR settings.
4. "Double archive extensions" and "Archives in subfolders" options
on the "Files" tab in the archiving window change the behavior of the parameter
"Put each file in a separate archive."
The "Double archive extensions" option allows you to switch the style
naming archives between "name.extension.rar" and "name.rar".
Depending on the state of the "Archives in subfolders" setting
you can create a separate archive for each file in the selected
subfolders, or save the entire contents of each selected folder in
separate archive.
5. The new switch -ad1 allows you to recursively unpack a series of archives,
for example "rar x -r -ad1 arc\*.rar". For files retrieved from each
archive, a separate folder is created, but unlike the -ad switch, this switch
creates such folders for each folder in the archive.
6. If the context menu "Unpack each selected archive into a separate
folder" applied to archives from different folders in search results
Windows Explorer, subfolders with unpacked files are created
for each archive folder. Previous versions created them all in a folder
with the archive that was right-clicked.
7. New option "File list/List style/Flags" in WinRAR settings
allows you to select items in the file list using checkboxes.
8. New parameter "List of files/Files/Exact sizes" in WinRAR settings.
If enabled, file sizes are always displayed in bytes.
If disabled, sizes are rounded to the nearest KB or MB. Dimensions
small files are still displayed in bytes.
9. If several copies of the console RAR with the -ioff switch are running, the computer
will be turned off when the last copy of RAR is finished. Previously
this key was being processed at the first copy that terminated.
10. For .iso files, the size of the read and write buffer has been increased. In some

extraction from iso files.
11. If the "Delete archive" option in the extraction window is applied to the set
RAR and REV volumes in the format volume_name.part#, the REV volumes will also be deleted.
Previously, only RAR volumes were deleted, and REV files remained on disk.
12. If the "Delete archive" option in the extraction window is applied to the set
ZIP volumes with extensions .zip.001, .zip.002, .zip.003 will be deleted
all ZIP volumes. Previously, for such a volume naming scheme, only the
volume.zip.001.
13. If the arcname.rar archive is unpacked using the command
"Extract to arcname\" in Explorer's context menu, and already exists
"arcname" file, the WinRAR shell extension will suggest instead
"Extract to arcname~1\". Previously, this context menu command tried
create a folder with the same name as the existing file and called
error.
14. If a shortcut file with the .lnk extension is packed from the context menu
Explorer, the lnk file itself is added to the archive. Previous Versions
added the target pointed to by the lnk file, not the lnk file itself.
15. Executable files in Windows cannot be larger than 4 GB, so WinRAR
immediately throws an error when trying to create RAR SFX volumes of size
4 GB or more. Previously, such an error was issued only after creating
first RAR volume.
16. For 7z multi-volume archives, a total progress indicator is displayed
extraction. Improved the accuracy of the total extraction progress indicator.
17. The drop-down list "Disks and folders" in the "Find files" command has been renamed
in the "Search area". In addition to existing options

21. Nadav Grossman of Check Point Software Technologies told us
about a security vulnerability in the UNACEV2.DLL library.
This vulnerability allows files to be created in arbitrary folders within
or outside the target folder when unpacking ACE archives.
WinRAR used this 3rd party library for unpacking
ACE archives. The UNACEV2.DLL has not been updated since 2005, and we have
no access to its source code. For this reason, we have decided to refuse
from supporting the ACE archive format to avoid compromising
WinRAR users.

22. Bugs fixed:
A) in the console RAR, the sizes and times of the original were mixed up in places
and target files in the overwrite request when updating the file in
RAR archive with the -o switch;
B) dragging files from 32-bit applications to the window did not work
64-bit WinRAR;
C) the Shift+Del command applied to a folder in WinRAR might not delete
some of its subfolders. This command is for
permanently deleting files and folders rather than moving them

The "Name Encoding" submenu in the "Options" menu allows you to select the encoding for file names in the archive. The choice affects viewing the contents of the archive and extraction commands. For quick access to this menu, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+E.
This function may be needed when unpacking an archive without Unicode file names. Example: Unpacking a zip archive with filenames in Chinese on Windows, where the language for non-Unicode programs is set to Russian.
If the folder with regular RAR volumes also contains recovery volumes (.rev files), then the archive testing command will check the contents of rev files after the .rar files are checked.
If you want to test only .rev files without checking .rar volumes, then select .rev files in the WinRAR file list and apply the test command only to them, or run the following command in the command line: rar t arcname.part1.rev
The NTFS file system allows you to give files names with spaces and dots at the end, but many Windows programs do not know how to correctly handle such names. If the option "Allow potentially incompatible names" on the "Advanced" tab in the "Path and extraction options" window is disabled, then WinRAR removes spaces and dots at the end of file names during extraction, if any.
By default, this option is disabled.
The console version of RAR also removes spaces and periods from the end of filenames when extracting, unless the -oni switch is specified on the command line.
Previously, when choosing the update method "Synchronize archive contents" (or specifying the -as switch on the command line), the work was interrupted if some of the folders being archived could not be read. Now WinRAR continues to perform the operation and saves the files in the archive according to the unreadable folders.
The Shift+Del delete command in WinRAR can be used to delete folders containing files with non-standard names ending in spaces or dots. Normal deletion to the Recycle Bin, as well as Shift+Del in previous versions of WinRAR, could not delete such folders.
Unlike Del, the Shift+Del command deletes files permanently without moving them to the Recycle Bin. For files with read-only and system attributes, no additional requests are issued.
Folders can be copied or unpacked by dragging them from the folder tree panel to other programs or to the desktop. To unpack the entire archive, drag and drop its icon at the root of the folder tree.
In the extraction window, when you click the "New Folder" button, the name of the new folder is suggested based on the name of the archive, rather than the neutral "New Folder".
Version info in console RAR:
a) if the -iver switch is specified, then RAR shows the version number and stops working; you can just run the "RAR -iver" command;
b) RAR for Windows displays "x86" or "x64" in the version information both when using the -iver switch and in the copyright header for other commands.
If the -p switch is specified without an optional parameter, then the password can be set by file redirection or pipelining.
Example: rar -p myarc.rar myfiles The console version of RAR treats "arcname.partN" as "arcname.partN.rar" if "arcname.partN" does not exist but "arcname.part#.rar" does.

7z archive support improvements:
a) the "Info" command in WinRAR correctly detects and displays the "Continuous" status of 7z archives;
b) "Information" command in WinRAR shows dictionary size for 7z-archives LZMA and LZMA2;
c) unknown packed size for files inside a 7z contiguous block is denoted as "?" instead of "0" when viewing archive contents in WinRAR.
The maximum comment length for RAR archives has been increased from 64 KB to 256 KB.
Because the archive comment stores SFX script commands, this increase allows longer body text and license information to be included in self-extracting archives.
The standard font size in the WinRAR viewport is correctly increased when a high DPI screen mode is selected in Windows.
The -scul switch can be used to process lists of UTF-16 encoded files with big-endian (UTF-16BE) byte order, provided they have a valid byte order mark. Previously, only lists of files with little-endian order were supported.
The minimum supported version of Windows is now Windows XP SP3. WinRAR will not work on Windows XP without service packs installed.
Removed option "Settings/File list/Do not change the case of letters in names". This setting was intended to ease the transition from MS-DOS to Windows and is no longer required.
Bugs fixed:
a) "Add to archive and send by e-mail" command in WinRAR 5.31 64-bit version did not work with Microsoft Outlook x64;
b) if WinRAR 5.31 for one of the right-to-left languages was installed on Windows with English or another system language where the writing direction is not right-to-left, then WinRAR could change the layout of Windows Explorer to correspond to right-to-left writing;
c) if the archive was located in a writable folder, and the contents of the archive were extracted by dragging and dropping into a writable folder, then WinRAR issued an unnecessary request for privilege escalation.
