Lesson 1. Editing photos and videos. Connecting photo and video files

Sony Vegas lessons Perhaps we won’t start with a review of the program, it’s just that everyone wants to start making videos right away and this is possible. It needs to be overlaid and placed into the program. Video editing is quite possible using the proposed program, and this can be done quite professionally and in no time. big time. Photo editing is also quite simple; you can perfectly combine all the photos into one clip, add your voice and background music.

Lesson 2. Overlaying photos on videos

Sony Vegas lessons continue and today we will get acquainted with overlaying video on photos and vice versa. The video lesson will tell you how to correctly perform this task using the Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 program. A description can be carried out, but it is long and not as clear as can be seen in the video, it can be shown in the photo, but it will not be the same.

This kind of work is needed to make a connection, but not simply, but to superimpose one image on another. This is essentially a simple installation that won’t take much time.

Lesson 3. Restoring the Sony Vegas PRO 12 program

Sony Vegas lessons continue and focus on the topic of how to restore the program. When taking photos or videos, but more often just out of curiosity, many people change the settings and then cannot restore them to the previous ones. Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 provides this opportunity and it is not difficult to do. Just press a couple of keys on the keyboard and all files will be restored. After watching a video on this topic, you can restore in a couple of seconds previous settings program and will continue to work further.

I sometimes struggle with video editing. From various software for work, I recommend downloading Sony Vegas 13 or other more modern version. I started getting acquainted with video editing with this program. Right now, though, I use Camtasia Studio. The reason is habit. Last year I upgraded my computer, or rather built it almost from scratch, and ended up working on a weak machine for almost six months. Therefore, I had to take a less demanding program. So he left Kamtasia as the main editor. Although Vegas has more opportunities, I still don’t need them. Today I’ll tell you about the main features of this editor.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio is one of the popular programs amateur editing. It allows you to do the work of creating videos on high level. It differs from other products in its variety of functions and makes it possible to create films and clips in any form.

System requirements

The Sony Vegas program works starting with Windows 7. Accordingly, it will also work on new versions software. It should be remembered that the program is designed for 64-bit architecture; if the software has a 32-bit architecture, you will not be able to install and use Sony Vegas. For this case, it is worth using emulators.

Look at others system characteristics. The minimum requirements are as follows:

  • Processor – 2 GHz;
  • Hard disk (HHD or SSD) – 500 MB (required for installing the program);
  • RAM – 4 GB;
  • Nvidia video card supporting OpenCL;
  • Compatible with Windows sound map.

Here it is worth paying attention to the RAM. 4 GB is minimum requirements, installation on a computer with 8 GB would be optimal.

For full-fledged work you need to install .NET Framework 4.0. Without this software product You won't be able to launch Sony Vegas. To use additional ones, you will need an Internet connection. In some cases installation will be required additional set codecs, but this rarely happens. Usually everything you need is already on the computer.

If by chance the system is 32-bit, you can download and install earlier version programs. Versions prior to Sony Vegas Pro 10 can also be used on 32-bit architecture.

Interface

First, let's see what this program looks like and what buttons it has. This will allow you to get acquainted with Sony Vegas in detail, simplifying further work. There are the following buttons:

  1. Main menu. You can find everything available tools. In practice, this feature is rarely used;
  2. Using top panel you can use the functionality with two clicks;
  3. Project files. You can manipulate files at work;
  4. Conductor;
  5. Transitions. Use the tool to make transitions between in separate parts video;
  6. Special effects for video;
  7. Media Generators. Using the function you can generate media elements and effects;
  8. Trimmer window, with its help you can view files from the library;
  9. Preview window;
  10. Soundbar.

Separately, you should consider the mounting panel. Here you will find:

  • Position cursor;
  • Time scale;
  • Timeline. With it, you can add audio and video tracks and delete them. Combine segments;
  • Additional project controls.

An additional convenience is the ability to drag and arrange program windows in any order. This way you can create a convenient one. If you unpin any of the tabs, it will become a window, which can be placed anywhere. When to drag such a window to top part program, then it will be fixed there on its own.

Often during the editing process you have to change the parameters of the timeline tool. These settings are flexible. Vertical size can be changed by dragging the border. They also increase the height of the tracks, they can even be rolled up, which is convenient when there are a large number of them. The timeline can be stretched using the mouse wheel.

The process of creating clips is quite simple. Buttons make it possible to control work with minimal effort.

Creating projects and uploading files

After installing and launching Sony Vegas, you can immediately start working. The process is quite simple. All difficulties, if encountered, will occur in the future. Follow the instructions when installing.

To create a project, just click on the “file” button, then select “create” from the drop-down menu. You will see a window with a new project, here you can configure the basic parameters of the future clip or film. It is worth paying attention to the video and audio parameters. In order not to make mistakes when choosing parameters, it makes sense to study the basic relationships between sound and picture in advance.

As a result, you get a clean project. The timeline remains empty; not a single track is occupied yet. To work you will need to download required files. The following file types are available for adding:

  • Audio;
  • Video;
  • Images.

You can add files with any popular resolution.

There are several ways to add documents to a project. You have to choose the most optimal one:

  • Open the “file” menu and find the “import” button. Next, click “media files.” All that remains is to find desired document and add it to the project;
  • Through the “conductor” window;
  • Most in a simple way is to drag and drop files into the Project Media window. This allows you to add several documents at once. If you wish, you can drag and drop the file directly into the timeline. Then it will be added to the main window on its own.

Available installation operations

The first thing you should study for optimal use programs are ways to select and remove unnecessary sections of video. To do this, use the line located at the bottom of the event cursor. This line is placed in the desired location and the S key is pressed. It separates adjacent sections of the video sequence. The extra fragment is simply deleted using the Delete key.

Sometimes it is necessary to increase the playing time of a segment. To do this, simply pull the edge of the fragment to the side. Here it is worth paying attention to the features of the process. A triangle will appear above the track, which will show the end of the original segment. The fragment after this mark is simply repeated from the beginning. This happens both when increasing video footage and when working with audio.

Sometimes, when used for installation, it is already finished video It may be necessary to separate audio and video. Sony Vegas has a number of methods for solving this problem, here is the simplest:

  • Press the button with open lock, it is located at the top of the panel;
  • Select a fragment to split;
  • Press the U key;
  • Add soundtrack and drag the audio sequence there;
  • We remove unnecessary things.

Everything is done in just a couple of clicks.

To change the sound level on a track, use the control panel; it allows you to adjust all sound parameters.

To change the sound in only one frame proceed as follows:

  1. Select a fragment;
  2. Press the V key. You can also click right click mouse in the control panel, then from context menu select “insert envelope”.

Eventually it will appear horizontal line, it's called the audio envelope.

  1. On this line we create points along which we will adjust the volume. To do this, you can double-click on the envelope in the desired place, or right-click to call up the menu where you click “select point”;
  2. It is at these points that the sound is adjusted.

These are the main points you should know when using Sony Vegas Pro. But, in each menu item there is a fairly large number of settings, which allows you to create modern video in good quality.

Export capabilities and rendering

After editing is completed, rendering (clip creation) should be carried out. A distinctive point from others similar programs is the need to select a fragment that should be visualized. If you do not make a selection, the rendering will continue endlessly.

Having selected the segment, you will need to specify the parameters of the future film. This can be done through the “file” menu - “translate to..”. This will take you to a window where you can configure export. In the very simple version You can only specify the path to save the file, the name of the clip, and the aspect ratio.

It is possible to produce more precise settings. To do this, you will need to click the CUSTOMIZE TEMPLATE button. This will allow you to install not only individual parameters aspect ratio, but also bitrate. The latter indicator directly affects image quality.

After setting all the settings, click RENDER, this starts the creation of the clip. This process is extended over time. It all depends on the track sizes and bitrate.

conclusions

If you want to learn how to make high-quality videos, then you need to download Sony Vegas 13. This great program, not inferior in functionality to professional assemblies. At the same time, it practically does not require any special settings, and works even on weak hardware. Learning to work with it is not difficult.

Hi all! Today we will move on to video editing. And first of all I would like to give you detailed instructions, how to use Sony Vegas Pro 13, even if you are a novice user. Today this program is one of the best. Of course, you can't argue that Adobe Premiere better, but Sony Vegas is no less functional and easier to learn. Many professional video bloggers and editors use this application, and the videos they produce are simply excellent. Of course, it’s impossible to fit everything into one article, but at least we will look at the basics, and then we will slowly get to something more serious.

Before starting the work itself, I’ll briefly tell you about the program interface. The Sony Vegas Pro 13 program includes several areas:

  1. Main area (window). Various auxiliary parameters, effects, titles, as well as a media window into which all imported files will be loaded will be located here. You can hide and add windows as you wish.
  2. View window. This window is necessary for video editing, since here we can view what we have achieved so far.
  3. Artboard. This is where all the audio and video editing takes place. An edit consists of any number of tracks in which you can trim, splice, overlay media files, and much more.
  4. Track management area. Essentially, this is part of editing, as it is responsible for managing tracks on the timeline and adding effects to them. We will talk about all this in more detail later.

The rest doesn’t matter for now, since everything will come on its own during training.

How to open a media file

In order to open any media file (photo, video, audio) in Sony Vegas Pro, you need to go to the “File” - “Open” menu. After that, select one or more files.

All downloaded files will automatically be placed on the required tracks (about them we'll talk further), but if you don’t need them yet, you can remove them from there by selecting each of them and pressing Delete. They will still remain in the media window and you can grab them at any time by dragging them onto the track.

To simply transfer video or audio to the media window without adding it to a track, click on “File” - “Import” - “Media” and select any files from your computer.

Besides. You can open a file by dragging it from Explorer into the program itself. To do this, press left button mouse on the video and simply drag it into the program window. If the application is minimized, then drag the file onto the application icon and wait until it opens itself.

Plus this method is that you can transfer the media file either directly to the track or to the media window. In this case, nothing will appear on the timeline, but you can move it there at any time.

Sony Vegas Basics

Let's look at how to use Sony Vegas Pro 13 using the example of creating a small clip. Let us initially have a couple of pieces of video and an audio file.

Preparation

Open all these media files and drag them all onto the tracks if necessary. You should have three tracks:

  1. Video track for two videos
  2. Audio track for soundtrack to these two videos
  3. Separate audio track with sound file, which we will overlay.

If the video is long, the track size will automatically shrink to fit on the screen. But you can always zoom in using three methods:

  • Mouse wheel up and down
  • Click on the plus and minus buttons in the lower right corner of the screen.

Delete an attached audio track

Since we are making a separate clip with a new sound, we need to get rid of the accompaniment that initially comes with the downloaded videos, and when we drag it out, the accompaniment is automatically pulled as well. But if we try to select and delete the attached sound, the video clip adjacent to it will also be deleted. But there is a way out.

To do this, you need to click on the adjacent audio track so that it is highlighted, then right-click on it and select “Group” - “Remove from”, or the key U on keyboard. Then a degrouping will occur and they will separate from each other.

After this, you can safely click on the audio and press the key Delete. You need to do the same with the rest of the rollers on the tracks.

To prevent an empty track from taking up unnecessary space, right-click on its control block, and then select “Delete Track”. Now everything is clear...

Video editing: trimming and splicing

Now let's proceed directly to video editing in Sony Vegas Pro so that we get a full-fledged clip. I've already talked about this process in my article about, but now I will tell you about this in even more detail.

To begin with, we will trim only those parts of the video that we do not need, for example, we do not need the segment from 15 to 40 seconds at all. Then we stand at the fifteenth second of the track by clicking in the right place on the timeline (on the video). If you miss, you can move forward right time using the arrows on the keyboard.

Now press the key S on the keyboard, after which you will see that in this very place the track will split into two parts. If you need to separate all back, then you don’t need to do anything else, and if you need to remove an entire segment, then in exactly the same way we go to the end of the unnecessary part of the track and press the S key again. You may notice that in this place there will be division again.

Now, click on this segment so that it is highlighted, then right-click and select Delete, or press the key of the same name.

After this we will be left with a gap, that is, empty space after we cut out part of the track. In order to connect two parts and not leave a gap, left-click on the second part of the track and drag it to the first part. Towards the end, it will itself become magnetized to the backdrop. This way there will be no more gaps. By the way, you will also need to do the same with the second video, which we uploaded separately. But it would be great to make a beautiful and smooth transition, which I will tell you about in the next article.

If you need to remove only the end of the track, then you just need to move the cursor over the back area until its appearance changes, then hold down the left mouse button and drag it until everything unnecessary is gone. You can do the same with the beginning of the track. I usually use this trick to .

Well, the smooth fade out at the end will be the icing on the cake. To do this, stand on the corner behind the very last fragment of the track and start pulling slightly to the left using the left mouse button held down. In this case, a white semi-arc will be drawn on the fragment, which will indicate attenuation.

Duplicating a fragment

If any part of the track needs to be inserted somewhere else on the track, you can use one of the following methods:

Once you're done, be sure to see how it will look by pressing the play button and looking at the preview window. If everything worked out as it should, then we can start saving.

How to save video or audio in Sony Vegas pro 13

The program has two types of saving:

  • Saving a working file is necessary for intermediate recording, so that the material can be edited at any time. Is internal file Sony Vegas Pro and saves only settings, work and paths to edited files.
  • Export the finished video (rendering). Once you render the video, you can no longer edit it, since it becomes a full-fledged audio-video file, that is, everything merges together.

Saving a working project

To make an intermediate recording while saving all the work, you just need to select the menu “File” - “Save As”. after that, select a location on your hard drive where the file will be saved.

You can also select “Export” from the same File menu, where you will need to click on Vegas Project Archive (Veg).

Export of the finished project

But when your Sony project Vegas Pro will be ready and will need to be saved separate file in audio or video format, then go to the menu “File” - “Render”.

You will have a whole bunch of formats in which you can save the finished project. There are already several nuances here:

  1. At the top of the screen, select the path and name of the finished project. You can select the path by writing it manually, or specify the path to the folder by clicking the “Browse” button.
  2. Next, select the format. If you are making a video for the Internet, for example for YouTube, then you can choose Main Concept (mp4). And in the group that opens, select the item "Internet HD 1080" to select the highest quality.
  3. So that next time you don’t have to look required format, you can click on the star next to of this paragraph. Then it will change color. And next time all you have to do is tick the box "Show Favorites Only" to display only the formats you select.
  4. Finally press the button "Render", then sit back and wait for the save to finish. Depending on the duration of the finished project and the elements with effects involved, the retention time will either be long or not very long. But in any case, you will need patience. I remember once making a video for a friend and his fiancee when they got married. So it seemed like it was only 4 minutes long, but it lasted for 2 hours. But there I simply stuffed an enormous amount of everything, including various footage.

Bottom line

I hope that now you understand the basics of how to use Sony Vegas Pro 13, and now you can make a simple video. But this is just the beginning.

If you want to really learn video editing at a cool level, then I recommend you watch this killer course on working in Premiere Pro . This is a rather complex but highly professional video editor. Thanks to these lessons, you will easily learn how to use it and be able to make really cool videos. Highly recommend.

Well, this is where I end my article. I hope that you found it useful and interesting. Follow my blog updates so as not to miss something important and interesting, especially as part of my new section on video editing. Good luck to you. Bye bye!
