How does the brain work? Application. The main components of dietary supplements

Music for sleep and improvement of the central nervous system. ✔New!!!VK group: http://vk.com/myzuka_dlyua_sna✔We earn on our videos: http://vk.cc/2SoSBo✔My Blog: http://musicsleep.blogspot.ru/✔I'm in VK: https://vk.com/andrey_bryukhov Listening to sleep music is strictly in stereo headphones! Dear listeners! I am the author of this video, but not the sound track! The music used on the channel is freely available for download on the Internet! If, for any reason, you feel unwell, then it is better to refuse to listen! Recently, we are increasingly listening to music without words, i.e., instrumental music. Everyone calls it in their own way, for example, romantic music, sleep music, relaxing music, background music, calm music, space music, erotic music, music for relaxation, ethnic music, lyrical music and even healing music. Music is an art form. The means of conveying mood and feeling in music are specially organized sounds. The main elements and expressive means of music are: melody, rhythm, meter, tempo, dynamics, timbre, harmony, instrumentation and others. Music is a very good means of educating a child's artistic taste, it can influence mood, and there is even a special music therapy in psychiatry. With the help of music, you can influence human health: when a person hears fast music, his pulse quickens, his blood pressure rises, he begins to move and think faster. Music is everything for a person who listens to his heart and soul. It is everywhere, it does not have to be voluminous, atmospheric, it can be heard in everyday little things; bird songs combined with the rustle of leaves, the rumble of cars and an eerily loud tractor passing by. Music is a combination of sounds. Raindrops on the windowsill, thunder.. This is the music of life. But there is also another kind of music, music in which people invest their soul, money, time, for the sake of self-satisfaction and in order to bring something new into this vast, seemingly endless world, and again with the hope of that it will be heard, approved by someone, criticized by someone, and for someone his music will be the meaning of life. Music is emotion! Music can cheer, it can piss you off, it can move you. Music sometimes gives us confidence in ourselves, in the future, it saves us from loneliness, from terrible silence, and sometimes it remains in our hearts for a long time .. Music makes it possible to remember moments of the past and this is probably a trifle, but choosing music, we thoroughly choose our future path in life.

The central nervous system is represented by two types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neuroglia cells of various shapes fill the space between neurons and blood capillaries. Their main task is to create a support for neurons, protect them and "assistance" in the performance of specific functions.

The main cells of the brain are neurons. Their main task is to conduct a nerve impulse. They have several short processes-dendrites, through which the nerve impulse enters the body of the neuron, and a long process-axon for transmitting the impulse from the neuron to other cells. Nerve cells, due to their processes, interact with each other, forming a kind of network. As a result, each neuron contacts directly or indirectly with hundreds of other cells. This interaction is carried out through special structures - synapses located at the ends of the nerve processes.

Synapse

A synapse is a 10-50 nm wide gap between two neurons or a neuron and another cell. The first cell (it is always a neuron) is called presynaptic, the second - postsynaptic. The presynaptic nerve fiber has an extension at its end. Inside it there is a large number (up to 300,000) of synaptic vesicles filled with special chemical compounds called "mediators". There may be several types in one cell. These are chemical excitation transmitters. In addition, the synaptic vesicle contains a large number of mitochondria, special structures that produce cellular energy. The transmission of a nerve impulse through synapses requires a very large amount of energy.

The nerve impulse, propagating along the membrane of the presynaptic cell, reaches the synaptic vesicle, causes depolarization of the presynaptic membrane and the entry of calcium ions into the cell. An increase in the intracellular calcium concentration causes the movement of vesicles with a mediator to the presynaptic membrane, as a result of which the contents of several hundred vesicles are poured into the synaptic cleft. The mediator, diffusing through the synaptic cleft, reaches the postsynaptic membrane, where it connects to the corresponding receptor.

As a result, ion channels open in the postsynaptic membrane, and its permeability for sodium ions increases. This leads to a change in the charge on the inner surface of the membrane from negative to positive (depolarization) and the appearance of an electrical impulse in the presynaptic cell. Thus, the nerve impulse from cell to cell spreads through the nervous system.
The mediator molecules located in the space of the synaptic cleft are quickly inactivated either by reuptake by the presynaptic neuron or glial cells (amino acids, monoamines) with their subsequent placement back into the presynaptic vesicles, or by enzymatic cleavage directly in the synapse (acetylcholine breaks down into choline and acetic acid), or by diffusion outside the synapse (catecholamines).

When a nerve signal is transmitted through the same synapse for a long time, the mediator content in it can be depleted. This leads to a weakening of the rate of transmission of excitation or even to its complete cessation. This condition is called synapse fatigue.

To prevent the rapid onset of synaptic fatigue, the cell must constantly replenish its reserves of expendable mediator and intracellular energy. The content of the mediator is replenished either by synthesis from precursor substances, or by recapture of its molecules from the space of the synaptic cleft.

Violation of these mechanisms, for example, as a result of insufficient intake of nutrients necessary for synthesis, or oxygen or glucose for the cell to produce sufficient energy, leads to an imbalance in the work of the central nervous system, up to the development of various pathological conditions.

Inhibition in the central nervous system

The normal functioning of the brain is due to the fact that in addition to the synapses that transmit excitation, there is a huge number of inhibitory synapses. This is a special type of intercalary neurons. Nerve impulses approaching inhibitory neurons cause the same process of excitation in them as in other nerve cells. In response, an ordinary electrical impulse propagates along the axon of the inhibitory cell, but unlike other neurons, the axon endings release not an excitatory, but an inhibitory mediator.

As a result, inhibitory cells do not excite, but inhibit those neurons on which their axons terminate. Braking is carried out by two mechanisms. In the first case, the end of the inhibitory neuron acts on the axon of the excitatory neuron through the inhibitory mediator gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). At the same time, the properties of the presynaptic membrane change, and there is a complete blockade of the release of the mediator from the presynaptic nerve ending of the excitatory neuron into the synaptic cleft.

But more often in the central nervous system there is another type of inhibition - postsynaptic. In this case, the effect of the inhibitory neuron on the postsynaptic membrane is carried out mainly through the mediators glycine and GABA. As a result of the interaction of inhibitory mediators with receptors, there is a sharp increase in the existing negative charge (hyperpolarization) of the postsynaptic membrane, which leads to a decrease in the excitability of the next neuron.

Inhibitory processes are a necessary component in the coordination of nervous activity. Inhibitory synapses, blocking the conduction of excitation, limit its spread, interrupting the endless circulation through the central nervous system. The development of inhibition in the nerve centers protects them from excessive overstrain in work, playing a protective role. The balance of activity of excitatory and inhibitory neurons streamlines the normal functioning of the brain and allows the central nervous system to effectively perform its functions.

Mediators (neurotransmitters, neurotransmitters).

A variety of substances can act as mediators. In total, there are about 30 types of mediators, but only seven of them (glutamic acid, glycine, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin) are usually referred to as “classical” mediators. By their chemical nature, mediators are mainly biogenic amines (dopamine, norepinephrine, acetylcholine, serotonin, melatonin) and amino acids (GABA, glycine, glutamate).

According to the functional effect, mediators are divided into excitatory and inhibitory, or inhibitory (Table 1). The effects of the former predominate in the state of wakefulness and high functional activity of the brain, the latter - at rest, and especially during restful sleep without dreams.

action of neurotransmitters. Table 1

Glycine is an amino acid that is one of the main inhibitory neurotransmitters of the central nervous system. It balances the systems of excitation and inhibition, helps to relieve stress, stimulates mental activity. Helps restore cerebral circulation after ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury.

Glutamic acid is an amino acid, a precursor of GABA, and is the most abundant neurotransmitter in the CNS, especially in the anterior regions of the brain. Depending on the type of receptor, it can have either an excitatory or inhibitory effect.

Acetylcholine is a derivative of choline - vitamin B4. With its help, the regulation of motor activity and muscle tone occurs, it stimulates the formation of conditioned reflexes and memory. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by early death of cholinergic neurons.

Serotonin is formed from the amino acid tryptophan. It plays an important role in the regulation of emotional behavior, motor activity, eating behavior, sleep, energy and thermoregulation, is involved in the control of neuroendocrine systems, and has a vasoconstrictive effect. Serotonin reduces aggressiveness, fear, depression, promotes learning and leadership. Serotonin provides a lift in mood, its lack leads to the development of depression. In the autumn-winter period, the activity of the protein that transports serotonin from the synaptic cleft back to the neuron increases. The amount of the active mediator drops sharply, and we have symptoms of depression, sleep is disturbed, mood worsens, we begin to overeat, become lethargic and constantly tired.

Melatonin is produced from serotonin and is its antipode. The concentration of melatonin depends on the natural light cycle - the less daylight, the more melatonin. Increasing its level causes an irresistible desire to sleep. Since melatonin is produced only from serotonin, depression causes insomnia.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), also an amino acid, is synthesized from glutamic acid. It is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter that reduces brain activity.
Dopamine is an inhibitory modulator that reduces the effects of the excitatory neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Through dopamine receptors, there is a relaxation of blood vessels, an increase in blood flow, glomerular filtration in the kidneys. Dopamine promotes increased mood, emotional satisfaction, and creative activity.

Norepinephrine causes strong vasoconstrictor and bronchodilator effects. It is released from sympathetic nerve endings into the synapse and then into the blood during anger, rage, psychological mobilization; reduces depression (depression, melancholy, gloomy mood). Dopamine and norepinephrine are synthesized from the amino acid tyrosine.

The ratio of concentration and activity of excitatory and inhibitory mediators determines the functional state of the neurons of the central nervous system. The action of neuromodulators ensures the functioning of the central nervous system, the unification of individual neurons into an integral structure of the brain and the successful performance of vital functions.

Brain dysfunction

Disturbances in the normal functioning of the brain can be associated with the supply of brain tissue with oxygen and energy, the state and conductivity of neuronal membranes, the functioning of ion channels, receptors, enzymes, the synthesis and balance of neurotransmitters. The causes of these dysfunctions are emotional stress, head trauma, endocrine and vegetative-vascular disorders.

Introduction

Our body is a very complex system in which numerous processes that ensure its normal existence are interconnected. The main links of the general chain are neurons, as they perceive information, transmit it to the central nervous system and develop an adequate response. The nervous system unites the whole organism, contributes to its work. Any violation in the chain of nerve impulses leads to a deterioration in well-being, illness. For example, if the connection of the nerve endings on the fingers with the brain cells is disrupted, then it will be impossible to sense objects correctly, pick them up, distinguish warm from cold, and even simply move your hands exactly as required at the moment. The most important thing is that the hand itself will be healthy, but it will become impossible to control it, as if it is a stranger and lives its own life. Imagine, the same thing can happen to other organs: heart, stomach, kidneys...

Everyone knows the hackneyed phrase: “All diseases are from the nerves,” but few people really think how right she is. Many people do not take their health seriously - they “carry the disease on their feet”, are nervous about every trifle, experiencing everything inside themselves, bring the body with physical overload, and then complain about a whole “bouquet” of chronic diseases.

But even if a person of a phlegmatic temperament works strictly according to the schedule and, with a slight indisposition, exactly follows the doctor's instructions, under the influence of negative environmental factors, the state of his nervous system will only worsen over time. Slow down aging, cell depletion is possible only through proper nutrition - the use of essential amino acids, macro- and microelements of vitamins, proteins, fats and other substances necessary for the body. Food can be tasty, appetizing, but far from healthy and often “empty”, so a person is forced to call for help from biologically active supplements that make up for the deficiency of nutrients.

Specialists have developed nutritional supplements, taking into account their use to normalize the functions of various body systems. This book describes dietary supplements necessary to maintain a healthy nervous system.

human nervous system

Brief description of the nervous system

The nervous system regulates the activity of organs and systems of the body, ensuring their connection with the external environment. It perceives all internal and external stimuli, analyzes and processes incoming information and, accordingly, coordinates the functions of the body.

The main structural unit of the nervous system is the neuron - a nerve cell with processes. The number of branches may vary. Based on the functions, neurons are sensitive, perceiving signals from the external environment, associative, connecting neurons with each other, and motor, transmitting nerve impulses to the executive organs. All neurons are characterized by a very high level of metabolism, especially proteins and RNA.

The nervous system is divided into central, which includes the brain and spinal cord, and peripheral, represented by nerves (mostly paired) and nerve nodes that go from the spinal cord to the outer boundaries of our body. Also conditionally the nervous system is divided into somatic and autonomic. The somatic nervous system controls the skeletal muscles, controlling the sensitivity and movement of the body, and the autonomic nervous system affects metabolism, blood circulation, excretion, and reproduction.

central nervous system(CNS) provides a two-way communication of the body with the environment.

The brain consists of a huge number of nerve cells and is a mass of gray-white color. Its main divisions are posterior, middle and anterior.

The hindbrain consists of the medulla oblongata, the pons, and the cerebellum. In the medulla oblongata there are nerve centers that regulate breathing, digestion, the activity of the cardiovascular system, a number of protective reflexes - coughing, sneezing, vomiting. Nerves that control the activity of the tongue, pharynx, larynx, thyroid gland, large blood vessels, and internal organs depart from it. The cerebellum is involved in the coordination of movements, maintaining the posture and balance of the body. Facial and auditory nerves depart from the bridge. It connects the forebrain and midbrain with the medulla oblongata and spinal cord.

The midbrain connects the forebrain to the hindbrain. There are a number of important sensory and motor centers, including vision.

The forebrain consists of the diencephalon and the cerebral hemispheres. The centers of the diencephalon control the functions of internal organs, regulate body temperature, and are responsible for the feeling of thirst, hunger and satiety. The cerebral hemispheres are covered with gray matter - the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for the perception of all information entering the brain. It is with its functions that mental, speech activity and memory are associated.

The cortex consists of the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes. The frontal lobes are responsible for the behavior and labor activity of a person. The parietal lobes are a sensitive center that receives information from the skin, bones, joints, and muscles. In the temporal lobes are the areas responsible for the perception of sounds, in the occipital lobes - for the perception of visual signals. The left hemisphere is responsible for the implementation of mathematical operations and the process of thinking, and the right hemisphere is responsible for recognizing people by voice, for the perception of music, for the formation of figurative thinking.

The spinal cord is enclosed in the spinal canal and smoothly passes into the brain. It is made up of gray matter surrounded by white matter. Nerve impulses pass through the white mass of the spinal cord, connecting the brain with the body. In the gray matter, the opening of the reflex arcs occurs (the cessation of the transition of impulses from the nerve ending to the active organ). The spinal cord performs reflex and conduction functions. 31 pairs of spinal nerves depart from it.

The main task peripheral nervous system consists in the transmission of signals from the central nervous system to "destination centers" - individual organs or organ systems, as well as to the endocrine glands. The spinal nerves, located in pairs, form plexuses, in particular, cervical, brachial, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal.

The CNS never sleeps. During our rest, she draws new strength, an intensive metabolism takes place in her, which is ensured by burning sugar. Without a regular supply of oxygen and glucose to the cells of the central nervous system, its activity quickly stops, an activity on which the work of all organs and systems depends.

Application. The main components of dietary supplements

Products of natural origin

Seaweed

Laminaria (seaweed)- large brown algae. A feature of kelp, which determines its preventive and healing properties, is its high protein content, as well as biologically active substances, which make it indispensable for obtaining a number of dietary supplements. The rich chemical composition makes kelp an excellent means of protecting against radio emission. Its use increases the body's resistance to many adverse external factors, reduces the risk of cancer. Laminaria is an excellent source of iodine in a form that is easily absorbed by the body.

Spirulina combines many types of blue-green algae. It is used to prevent and treat cancer. In addition, spirulina improves the functioning of the immune system, in particular, by stimulating macrophages - special blood cells that can be called "cleaners", as they help remove waste from the body. Spirulina is an excellent source of complete proteins, B vitamins, gamma-linolenic acid, iron in a form easily absorbed by the body, and iodine.

Chlorella- unicellular algae, which is found in both fresh and salt water bodies, moist soil. Many countries have established industrial production of chlorella, as it is an excellent source of protein. Chlorella also abounds in other nutrients, including B vitamins, chemical elements (particularly magnesium). It contains a lot of chlorophyll, which helps to eliminate heavy metals such as cadmium and uranium from the body. Chlorella is rich in carotenoids, which are excellent antioxidants. There is another component in chlorella - chlorellan, which strengthens the immune system by promoting the production of interferon. Chlorella stimulates the development of beneficial intestinal microflora, improving the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

medicinal plants

Currently, a huge number of biologically active additives are based on medicinal plants or biologically active substances derived from them. Plant extracts are rich in all biologically active substances that are so necessary for our body, so they are essential components of most dietary supplements. For example, flower pollen activates the activity of the nervous system, and mushrooms contribute to the normalization of immunity and help the body adapt to stress.

Information about the active substances, indications and practical use of some medicinal plants is given in Table. one.

Microorganisms

In the gastrointestinal tract there is a special microflora that normalizes its work (lactobacilli, bifidobacteria, yeast, etc.). There are many factors that disrupt the state of microflora. One such factor is the overuse of antibiotics, which indiscriminately destroy both harmful and beneficial bacteria.

Other factors that disturb the bacterial balance include poor or, rather, improper nutrition, as well as stress and environmental chemical pollution.

To help the body resist these negative phenomena, special dietary supplements based on beneficial bacteria have been developed that allow maintaining the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract at the proper level and equalizing the ratio of "bad" and "good" microorganisms.

Seafood

From seafood, sea bivalve mollusks, in particular mussels, are very often used for the production of dietary supplements. These edible shellfish contain amino acids, enzymes and important micronutrients. The mineral balance of the shellfish is close to the balance of minerals in human blood plasma, which improves their absorption by the body. Substances secreted from shellfish contribute to the normal functioning of the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, have a positive effect on vision, improve the condition of connective tissue and mucous membranes, stimulate the endocrine and immune systems, reduce inflammation, relieve pain and stiffness in arthritis, and accelerate healing. wounds and burns.

From the body of fish from cold-water seas, such as mackerel, salmon, a very useful Omega-3 product is obtained, which is a combination of three polyunsaturated fatty acids that play an important role in the synthesis of anti-inflammatory substances that are part of the cell membrane.

The amount of "Omega-3" in human tissues very significantly affects the state of the coronary vessels. The more Omega-3 is contained in the body (or enters it), the less likely it is to develop atherosclerosis.

Mummy

Shilajit is the most mysterious and extremely effective natural remedy. There are many hypotheses about its origin, on the basis of which seven types of mummy are distinguished, which are products of the polymerization of organic residues.

The chemical composition of the mummy includes proteins, lipids, steroids, nitrogen-free substances, as well as alkaloids, amino acids, and minerals. The action of mumiyo largely depends on the presence of specific substances, such as auxins, inhibitors, chlorophyll, and bitterness. It is the complex chemical composition that determines the healing properties of the mummy, and, first of all, the presence of biologically active substances that dilate blood vessels is important, for example, in the treatment of hypertension, sclerosis, and headaches. Due to the presence of biological stimulants and a large number of microelements in the composition of the mummy, tissue regeneration is accelerated, therefore the mummy is used for fractures, wounds, burns, frostbite, as well as in the treatment of kidneys and liver, bladder, stomach ulcers, various forms of diabetes, anemia. Mumiye does not have a toxic effect on the body and has practically no side effects.

Animal products

The most noticeable in the creation of dietary supplements using animal products is the class of cytamines - a new class of bioregulatory substances isolated from various organs and tissues of animals. Organs such as the liver, blood vessels, cerebral cortex, pancreas, testes, mucous membranes of the bronchi, etc. were used in the creation of cytamines. Substances isolated from these organs are physiological correctors of body functions and are used to prevent various diseases and pathological conditions, as well as to slow down the aging process and improve the quality of human life. For example, raw bovine brain extract improves brain activity, and raw adrenal extract is important for the human body under stress.

bee products

Mother's milk is one of the most important products of beekeeping. It is secreted by the pharyngeal and maxillary glands of the food bees. Royal jelly has a whole range of useful substances, among which the main ones are proteins, vitamins and all essential amino acids. Carbohydrates are represented by glucose, fructose and sucrose. Due to its rich chemical composition, royal jelly has a very wide spectrum of action: antimicrobial, antiviral and antifungal. It is also a good anti-inflammatory and immunity booster; has anti-radiation and antitumor effect; due to the high content of pantothenic acid, it improves energy supply and reduces the effects of stress.

Bee honey- This is the most complex biological product, the value of which for a person is much more important than any other food product. The main raw material for obtaining or producing honey by bees is the nectar of flowering plants, which is a complex of biologically active substances. There are up to 300 of them in honey.

Pharmacological action of honey: antibiotic (suppresses the vital activity of microbes, fungi, protozoa), anti-allergic, anti-toxic (promotes the elimination of poisons from the body), soothing and restorative, anti-inflammatory, anti-radiation and antitumor.

Perga- a natural product resulting from the mixing of several varieties of pollen by bees. This product is 3-5 times higher than the flower pollen itself in terms of the content of monosaccharides, vitamins, enzymes, lactic acid fermentation products, microelements in it.

Propolis (bee glue)- a product of processing by bees of resinous substances of plant origin; has a pleasant aroma, bitter taste. The chemical composition of propolis is very diverse, but its main components are vegetable resins, essential oils and wax. In addition to these elements, propolis contains pollen, the secret of the salivary glands of bees. It contains many different minerals.

The main properties of propolis are antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and antitoxic. Propolis also stimulates the body's defenses against infections.

Bee pollen (flower pollen)- a product of the anthers of insect-pollinated plants, enriched with bee enzymes. A very important advantage of this product is that pollen is practically not an allergen, unlike pollen from wind-pollinated plants. The proteins that make up pollen are close in composition to human blood proteins, so it is perceived as a high-quality food product with excellent healing properties. Bee pollen stimulates the growth of organs and tissues; restores liver function; improves vegetative-vascular regulation and activity of the cardiovascular system; It has an antioxidant effect, which is important in the prevention of cancer. Also, flower pollen has a tonic and rejuvenating effect, improving skin condition.

Biologically active substances

Amino acids

These are the most important components of dietary supplements, which are structural chemical units from which proteins are formed, as well as enzymes, peptide hormones, low molecular weight oligopeptides with high physiological activity. They occupy a central place in the metabolism of nitrogenous substances (participate in the biosynthesis of vitamins, alkaloids and other compounds).

Amino acids are divided into two large groups: nonessential, which are synthesized in the human body, and irreplaceable, which enter the body with food.

Non-essential amino acids include: alanine, histidine, arginine, asparagine and L-asparagine, aspartic acid, cystine and cysteine, gamma-aminobutyric acid, glutamic and L-glutamic acids, glutamine, glycine, ornithine, proline, serine, taurine, tyrosine and L-tyrosine.

Essential amino acids include: isoleucine, leucine, lysine and L-lysine, methionine, phenylalanine and L-phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine.

Alanine is part of various proteins, in the free state is contained in the blood plasma. Alanine is one of the sources of glucose in the body.

Arginine slows down the growth of tumors, including cancer, by stimulating the immune system. It restores liver function, controls metabolism in muscle tissue, helps to reduce weight, has a stimulating effect on the production of insulin by the pancreas and helps the synthesis of growth hormone.

Asparagine required to maintain balance in the processes occurring in the central nervous system: it prevents both excessive excitation and excessive inhibition. It is involved in the synthesis of amino acids in the liver, improves energy metabolism and hematopoiesis.

L-asparagine normalizes brain functions.

Aspartic acid increases vitality, plays an important role in metabolic processes, normalizes the functioning of the central nervous system, stimulates the immune system.

Valine has a stimulating effect. It is necessary for metabolism in muscles, repair of damaged tissues, maintenance of normal nitrogen metabolism in the body, synthesis of pantothenic acid.

Gamma aminobutyric acid controls the functioning of the central nervous system. It is indispensable for the metabolism in the brain, relieves arousal, has a calming effect, and normalizes sexual functions.

Histidine essential for normal growth and tissue repair. It protects the body from the damaging effects of radiation, promotes the excretion of heavy metals, and is an integral part (active center) of some enzymes.

Glycine slows down the degeneration of muscle tissue, is necessary for the synthesis of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). It is useful for repairing damaged tissues, is indispensable for the normal functioning of the nervous system and the good condition of the prostate gland.

Glutamine ensures the normal functioning of the muscles; increases the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid, necessary for the normal functioning of the brain; maintains normal acid-base balance in the body; takes an active part in nitrogen metabolism.

Glutamic acid occupies a key position in nitrogen metabolism. Without its participation, the synthesis of some amino acids does not take place. Glutamic acid ensures the normal functioning of the central nervous system, as it carries out the transfer of potassium ions and neutralizes ammonia.

L-glutamic acid improves the transmission of nerve impulses.

Isoleucine necessary for athletes, as it increases endurance. It is used in the treatment of many mental illnesses.

Leucine protects muscle tissue and is a source of energy; promotes the restoration of bones, skin, muscles (which is important during the recovery period after surgery or injury).

Lysine essential for normal bone formation and growth in children; promotes the absorption of calcium and the maintenance of normal nitrogen metabolism in adults; participates in the synthesis of hormones, enzymes or antibodies; useful in the recovery period after injuries and operations.

L-lysine reduces the impact of stress, allows you to more successfully cope with it.

Methionine participates in the synthesis of the most important compounds, such as choline, adrenaline. Certain forms of methionine have vitamin activity. The lack of methionine in food leads to a violation of protein biosynthesis, slowing down the growth and development of the body, and severe functional disorders.

Ornithine is the main participant in the process of urea formation as one of the mechanisms for binding toxic nitrogen, ensures the normal course of protein metabolism.

Proline improves skin condition, helps in restoring the cartilaginous surfaces of the joints, strengthens the ligaments and the heart muscle. It is important for the human body, as it is an integral part of insulin, gramicidin and other biologically important peptides.

Serene necessary for the normal metabolism of fats and fatty acids, the growth of muscle tissue, the maintenance of the normal state of the immune system, as it participates in the biosynthesis of a number of essential amino acids (glycine, methionine, cysteine, tryptophan) and enzymes.

Taurine found in the heart muscle, white blood cells, skeletal muscles. It takes part in the synthesis of many other amino acids, and is also part of the main component of bile, which is necessary for the digestion of fats, the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Taurine is necessary for the normal metabolism of sodium, calcium and magnesium, and is also necessary for the body with atherosclerosis, for the prevention of certain disorders of the heart muscle; prevents the excretion of potassium from the heart muscle; has a protective effect on the brain; reduces feelings of anxiety.

Tyrosine- an antidepressant that suppresses appetite, helps reduce fat deposition, is involved in the synthesis of thyroid hormones and adrenaline. Violation of the oxidative breakdown of tyrosine due to a genetic defect leads to the development of a serious disease - alkaptonuria. Dietary supplements with tyrosine are used to relieve stress, they help with chronic fatigue syndrome, narcolepsy and depression, and stabilize mood swings. L-tyrosine stimulates the production of adrenaline, improves learning and improves memory, improves mood and motivation.

Threonine contributes to the maintenance of normal protein metabolism in the body, helps the liver and is involved in the metabolism of fats.

tryptophan ensures the normal functioning of the brain and central nervous system. It is used for depression, insomnia and to stabilize mood. Disturbances in tryptophan metabolism lead to dementia, and can also serve as indicators of diseases such as tuberculosis, cancer, and diabetes.

Phenylalanine reduces pain, improves memory, suppresses appetite, affects mood. It helps well with arthritis, depression, various pains (menstrual, migraine). Violation of the conversion of phenylalanine due to genetic changes leads to a hereditary disease - phenyl-ketonuria.

L-phenylalanine necessary for the normal functioning of the brain.

Cysteine and cystine are closely related. Cysteine is part of alpha-keratin - the main protein of nails, skin and hair. Cys-tin performs a protective function of the body, binding toxic ions of heavy metals, arsenic compounds, cyanides.

Antioxidants

These are substances that inhibit the activity of free radicals or even disrupt the process of their formation in the body, preventing their damaging effect. In addition, antioxidants are able to restore the normal state of the body in case of oxygen deficiency. Then they say that they have antihypoxic activity.

Free radicals are unstable molecules with an odd number of electrons that destroy or damage body cells. They disrupt the immune system, leading to infectious and various degenerative diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease, and accelerate the aging process.

The following groups of free radicals formed in the body are known: peroxides, hydroxyl and hypochlorite radicals, various lipid compounds. They are formed under the influence of radiation, toxic chemical compounds, too long exposure to sunlight.

It is believed that the intake of dietary supplements containing antioxidant substances prevents the development of malignant neoplasms and minimizes the damage caused by free radicals.

Of the well-known and common components of dietary supplements, antioxidant properties have: alpha-lipoic acid, cysteine, glutathione, selenium, vitamin A and beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, zinc.

Of the products of natural origin, which are components of dietary supplements and have good antioxidant activity, one can name blueberries, ginkgo biloba and green tea.

But it should be remembered that a chronic overdose of antioxidants weakens the body's own antioxidant system, so they should not be abused.

Squirrels

These are high molecular weight organic compounds built from amino acids. They play a primary role in human life, participating in the construction of cells and tissues of the body and metabolism.

Proteins also have many other important functions. So, for example, along with structural proteins, there are catalytic proteins responsible for many biochemical processes in the cell - enzymes, protective proteins that ensure the functioning of the body's immune system - various antibodies and immunoglobulins. There are transport proteins, such as hemoglobin. Regulatory proteins that have a targeted effect on metabolism in organs and tissues are hormones.

Pathological changes in the synthesis of proteins lead to a violation of nitrogen metabolism in the body, which is primarily expressed in an increase in the concentration of uric acid in the blood, the formation of poorly soluble organic salts, and this leads to the development of a disease such as gout.

The quality of a protein is determined by its content of essential and non-essential amino acids. From this point of view, bran, wheat germ, yeast, soy are very useful.

vitamins

These are vital substances that our body needs to maintain many of its functions. Vitamins are usually called low molecular weight organic compounds that humans and animals cannot produce on their own and are obtained from outside. In most cases, vitamins enter the body with food. Vitamins are considered micronutrients because the body uses them in small amounts compared to other nutrients such as proteins, fats and carbohydrates. And although our body's need for vitamins is small, it is very difficult to overestimate their importance and role.

Currently, 14 vitamins are known, and all of them are necessary for our body to function properly. The lack of vitamins affects the state of individual organs and tissues, as well as the most important functions: growth, procreation, intellectual and physical capabilities, and protective functions of the body. A long-term lack of vitamins leads first to a decrease in working capacity, then to a deterioration in health, and in the most extreme, severe cases, this can result in death.

Under the influence of certain external factors, our body can synthesize individual vitamins in small quantities from the material at its disposal. So, for example, the amino acid tryptophan in the body can be converted into nicotinic acid. When exposed to sunlight, vitamin D is formed in the skin. Bacteria are present in the intestines, which can produce vitamins K and H in small quantities.

There are two large groups of vitamins: water-soluble and fat-soluble.

Water-soluble vitamins include vitamins C, PP and group B. Water-soluble vitamins should be taken daily, as they do not accumulate in the body and are excreted within 1-4 days.

Another group of vitamins - fat-soluble - vitamins A, D, E and K. They can accumulate in adipose tissue and liver and, if necessary, be extracted from there by the body.

The researchers who discovered and studied vitamins suggested calling them letters of the alphabet. So, the first vitamin was called vitamin A, the next one was called vitamin B, but it turned out that in this case it was a whole group of substances, and a serial number began to be attached to the letter.

Along with real vitamins in nature, there are vitamin-like substances that have vitamin activity and are synthesized in the human body in significant quantities. Vitamin-like substances such as inositol, choline and L-carnitine are important for brain function. Inositol increases the duration of sleep, thus providing a deeper rest. Choline improves blood circulation in the brain. L-carnitine slows down the processes of memory impairment.

There are provitamins that are converted into vitamins in the human body. The best known of all provitamins is beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A.

It is worth paying attention to the amount of vitamins and vitamin-like substances that are introduced into dietary supplements. They are well below the recommended intake of vitamins. This is explained, firstly, by the fact that not only dietary supplements cover a person's daily need for vitamins (this includes the food we eat and vitamin preparations, which, of course, are best taken on the advice of a doctor. Secondly, dietary supplements most often people consume without medical supervision, which, when administered in higher amounts of vitamins, can lead to their overdose.

Information on the physiological significance, sources, symptoms of deficiency and vitamin intake rates are given in Table. 2.

Glycosides

These are physiologically active substances that are synthesized mainly in plants and are organic compounds of sugars with non-sugar-containing groups.

Among the glycosides, six groups are distinguished: cardiac, saponins, anthraglycosides, bitter (bitterness), cyanogenic and thioglycosides.

Anthraglycosides have a therapeutic effect on the gastrointestinal tract (for chronic constipation), on the urinary system (for nephrolithiasis).

Bitter glycosides (bitters) have diuretic, antitumor, antispasmodic, antiarrhythmic, antibiotic activity.

Saponins- plant substances that have a wide spectrum of action: antiarrhythmic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antitumor and antioxidant, and also increase the strength of heart contractions.

cardiac glycosides have an effect on the heart muscle, increasing the strength of its contractions. The only source of these glycosides is medicinal plants.

Thioglycosides have an irritating and distracting effect.

Cyanogenic glycosides have a calming and analgesic effect. Some of them, obtained from the seeds of bitter almonds, are used in oncology.

Tannins (tannins)

These are organic compounds with astringent, anti-inflammatory and bactericidal action. They are effective in skin diseases, dysbacteriosis, enterocolitis, as well as in gingivitis, stomatitis and other inflammatory processes.

Fats and fatty acids

They are a concentrated source of energy and contain two groups of fatty acids: polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and saturated fatty acids (SFAs).

PUFAs are mainly found in vegetable oils: sunflower, corn, soybean, olive, mustard, rapeseed and seafood. First of all, PUFAs necessary for the body are: linoleic, arachidonic, linolenic, as well as penta- and hexaenoic acids.

PUFAs are divided into two groups: "Omega-3" and "Omega-6".

EFAs are of animal origin and are necessary for the body as sources of energy in case of imbalance or insufficiency of lipid nutrition.

Fatty acids contribute to the process of transmission of impulses necessary for the normal functioning of the brain. They are necessary for the restoration of nervous tissue.

Fiber (cellulose)

It is a polysaccharide that occupies a central place among complex carbohydrates. It is part of the framework of plants, is not absorbed by the body, but is of great importance for its normal functioning. Fiber enhances intestinal motility and contributes to its normal emptying; carries out the prevention of atherosclerosis, obesity and even cancer; helps to remove heavy metals from the body.

There are several forms of fiber: hemicellulose, pectin, gum (resin).

Hemicellulose- an indigestible carbohydrate that absorbs water in the body, promotes weight loss. It relieves constipation, reduces the amount of carcinogens in the intestines.

Gum (resin)- a substance that is formed in places of damage to plants. From a chemical point of view, gums are complexes of neutral and acidic complex carbohydrates. Gum helps reduce appetite, lowers cholesterol levels, and also removes toxins from the body.

Pectin is an important component of the cell wall of plant organisms, which is a mixture of acidic complex carbohydrates. Pectin contributes to the normalization of metabolic processes in the body, improves peripheral circulation, as well as intestinal motility. It promotes the removal of heavy metals and toxins, reduces the side effects of radiation therapy, and lowers blood cholesterol levels.

Minerals (macro- and microelements)

They are essential for the human body to function normally. The life, functions and structure of each cell depend on the action of these chemical elements, on their balance, which is determined by the level of individual minerals and their ratio.

Each chemical element plays its own unique role, but its effect is determined by the presence (or absence) of other chemical elements in the body.

Like vitamins, chemical elements are involved in the processes of energy production, growth and repair of the body. Many vital functions, such as the work of the heart, brain and nervous system, reproductive processes, are directly dependent on the content of certain chemical elements in the body.

Information on the physiological significance, consumption rates, deficiency symptoms and sources of chemical elements is given in Table. 3.

Neurohormones

These are substances that regulate the activity of internal organs and the central nervous system.

Acetylcholine is the main neurohormone in the body. It is responsible for the transmission and regulation of signals from one nerve cell to another, that is, it makes our body one whole. With its lack, the body decays faster than usual; lethargy, fatigue, depression occur; there is a slow reaction, difficulty in thinking, poor memory, irritability.

You can replenish the body with acetylcholine using a plant-based diet and taking DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) in its pure form or as part of other drugs, which will significantly prolong life.

organic acids

Organic acids are involved in the metabolism of various biostructures of the body, they are necessary for the flow of vital processes. Some of them, such as linoleic, prevent the development of atherosclerosis. Others take part in the metabolism, affect the work of the secretory glands, maintain the acid-base balance.

Enzymes

These are specific proteins that are present in all living cells and play the role of biological catalysts. They are necessary for the digestion of food products, the regulation of brain activity, the processes of energy supply to cells, and the restoration of organs and tissues. Enzymes are simple or complex proteins, which, along with the protein component (apoenzyme), also include a non-protein part - the coenzyme.

All enzymes (according to the type of functions they perform) are divided into six classes: oxidoreductases, transferases, hydrolases, lyases, isomerases and ligases (synthetases).

Hydrolases take an active part in the digestive processes. In cells, hydrolases contribute to the breakdown of large biomolecules into simpler ones; carry out intracellular digestion of substances such as proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, lipids.

With isomerase transformations occur within a single molecule. They cause intramolecular rearrangements and play an important role in restoring the biological activity of molecules. Isomerases are widely distributed in nature, especially in microorganisms.

Liase take part in the reactions of synthesis and decomposition of intermediate metabolic products.

Ligases (synthetases) regulate the reactions that result in the connection of two molecules using the energy of the phosphate bond. They play an important role in the biosynthesis of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates.

To oxidoreductase include enzymes that change the rate of redox reactions. They play an important role in energy processes.

Transferases regulate the reactions of transfer of various chemical groups from the molecule of one substance to the molecules of another. They take part in the reactions of interconversion of various substances, in the neutralization of natural and foreign compounds.

Flavonoids

These are organic compounds containing two phenolic rings. They are synthesized from certain organic acids. Many of the flavonoids are pigments that give color to various plants.

Flavonoids have a stimulating effect on the immune system, some of them are used for allergic diseases (for example, quercetin). In addition, they strengthen the walls of capillaries, have an antitoxic effect, and also have antioxidant properties: they neutralize free radicals, thereby protecting brain cells from their damaging effects (for example, pycnogenol).

Essential oils

They are complex multicomponent mixtures of volatile aromatic substances. Essential oils have astringent, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects. Some of them have a calming effect. In addition, essential oils have a choleretic and diuretic effect. The most famous are essential oils (more precisely, their components): menthol (from peppermint), ledol (from wild rosemary), chamazulene (from chamomile).
