How to format a disk from raw to ntfs. General concept of "RAW"

Today we will look at how to recover information from a hard disk when the structure of the file system is damaged, when the RAW file system is displayed in the disk properties. Below we will talk about several methods that will allow you to recover a disk with a RAW file system.

It should be noted right away that there is no universal way to eliminate the problem that has arisen. Below we will look at some of the most effective ways to recover a disk.

Reasons for displaying the RAW file system

1. The disk has not been formatted. However, if the disk worked normally before, then this reason is swept aside;

2. There is damage to the file system structure;

3. There is no correct access to the disk;

4. Invalid data was written to the boot sector or MFT.

RAW file system disk recovery methods

Method 1: check the disk

This method should be done by users first, because it is launched by standard Windows tools, without resorting to third-party programs.

To use this method, you need a bootable USB flash drive with Windows.

Enter BIOS and set your USB stick as the default boot device.

When Windows Installer appears on the screen, set the system language, and then select "System Restore" .

In the window that appears, click on the item "Command line" .

In a terminal window, you need to enter a command that looks like this:

chkdsk [drive letter]: / f

For example, for drive D, the command would look like this:

chkdsk d: / f

Press the Enter key and wait for the command to complete. When the check is complete, restart your computer normally and check the status of the disk.

Method 2: using MiniTool Power Data Recovery program

An effective program for troubleshooting disk problems. The program has a free version, however, the size of recoverable files should not exceed 1 GB).

In the next window, select the drive from which you want to recover data, and then click on the item "Full Scan" .

After waiting for the end of the scan, the files available for saving will be displayed on the screen. You can select all files, or select only the necessary ones selectively. Once the files you need to restore are selected, click on the button "Save" .

A window will appear on the screen in which you need to specify the final path for the files to be restored. Please note that you do not need to specify the disk to recover.

The copying process will begin, the duration of which will depend on the number of selected files. Once the procedure is complete, a message will be displayed on your screen stating the success of the operation.

Now you can safely format the disk and transfer all the files back to it.

Method 3: using the TestDisk utility

A functional free utility that is endowed with the following features:

1. Recovering deleted partitions;

2. Rewriting the MBR;

3. Performing recovery of the boot sector from a backup (FAT32 and NFTS);

4. Copying files from remote partitions;

5. Reconstruction of the NTFS boot sector and more.

Many users are discouraged from working with this utility, because all actions are performed through the command line. However, you should not be afraid of this, especially since the developer's website is given.

Hard disks (hard disk drives - HDD), which for various reasons are not detected by the operating system, receive the RAW status, and access to them is terminated. When you try to open such a disk, Windows advises you to format it, but if you follow this recommendation, then all the recorded information will disappear. It is desirable to restore an acceptable format: NTFS or FAT32.

Sources of problems with HDD can be different, and, before doing anything to restore the format, it is worth identifying them. Here are the most common ones:

  1. Connection failures. For example, the user disconnected the disk incorrectly, or the power supply was cut off and the file system was disrupted.
  2. Broken cable that connects the drive to the board.
  3. Malicious software that violates the data structure.
  4. Errors that occurred when reinstalling or updating the OS.
  5. In the case of a flash drive, the reason for changing the format to RAW may also be a malfunction of the USB connectors.
  6. Malfunctions of the PC motherboard.
  7. Errors when working with Acronis Disk Director.

Format recovery

To recover NTFS format from RAW, try the following:

Format recovery using special programs

If, when you try to check the HDD using the above method, a message appears: "CHKDSK is not valid for RAW drives", you can use programs that allow you to recover NTFS format from RAW. Let's consider the most popular ones.

DMDE

DMDE is a utility that looks for damaged partitions in the file system and helps restore the disk to NTFS status. After downloading and installing the program, you need to do the following:

  1. Run the application.
  2. On the left, check the box next to Physical Devices and Show Sections.
  3. Select the damaged disk and click OK. After that, the utility will find the RAW section and mark it with a crossed-out icon. If this does not happen, perform a full scan (the corresponding button is located at the bottom of the window).
  4. Now try to open the RAW volume and click "Recover" and then "Apply Settings".
  5. After that, as a rule, the HDD format is changed to NTFS.

DMDE window

IMPORTANT. If you are trying to return the NTFS status to the system disk and do it from another PC, then after the operation is completed and the HDD is returned to its place, the previous computer will display it in RAW format, so it is advisable to first restore the Windows bootloader.

Recuva

Simple and straightforward to use program that can fix RAW disks and flash drives. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Launch the application, select "Recover all files", mark the damaged disk and click "Start".
  2. The utility will detect files with broken structure and fix the format to NTFS.

Piriform Recuva program window

TestDisk

The third utility that recovers the disk format. Just download and run it, then:

  1. Select "Create", press Enter.
  2. Then click on the problem HDD, then Enter again and the Analyze and Quick Search items.
  3. After executing the command, select Write to restore the information structure.

TestDisk program window

If all these manipulations did not lead to anything, most likely, the disc has mechanical damage or its components interact incorrectly and it would be more expedient to show it to a specialist.

The hard disk of a normally functioning computer device is always formatted in the NTFS or FAT file system. If one of the HDD partitions starts to work incorrectly, a record about converting its format to RAW appears in the properties of the disk. This means that the standard file system is damaged and needs to be restored. In practice, you can find out about such damage as follows. When the disc is accessed, the disc does not open, and a message appears on the monitor to format it.

What does this message mean:

  • The structure of the filesystem being used has been destroyed.
  • There is no access to the contents of the hard disk.
  • Writing invalid or corrupted data to the boot sector of the disk.

When you open the properties of the hard disk, you will notice that the section supposedly does not contain any information. In any case, it is necessary to perform a file system restore in order to recover the data on the disk.

What causes the failure?

The reasons for the appearance of such a failure can be:

  • The impact of a virus that has penetrated the computer.
  • Fatal operating system failure.
  • An incorrectly working program that replaces the original system files with its own files. This also includes "crooked" drivers.
  • User errors when shutting down the computer. This is how the file system of flash drives gets damaged.
  • External factors, as a result of which the file system can be damaged. In particular, frequent power outages can trigger this problem.

How can you restore the file system and information on the hard drive?

Despite the fact that the operating system will prompt you to format the damaged partition, it is better not to agree with such actions. However, if you were in a hurry and gave the command to format, all is not lost. However, in this case, it will be much more difficult to completely restore the contents of this section. First, you should restore all the information available on the faulty partition, and then restore the file system itself.

It is recommended to restore data and logical partition performance using RS Partition Recovery.

This program allows you to:

  • Recover files from the HDD on which the file system was changed. That is, with RAW.
  • Recover data from the hard drive that you formatted.
  • Getting the most complete information from a logical partition that has been deleted.
  • Full recovery of damaged partitions.
  • Copying data from damaged partitions to other media.
  • The program does an excellent job with the assigned tasks on any medium.

Working with RS Partition Recovery

The program interface is quite simple. The main menu is divided into three main parts. On the left you can see a list of hard drives and logical partitions. The center shows the filling of disks with information, as well as information about the sizes of all disks. The files we have selected appear in the right column. The program even displays hidden files, as well as sections that are controlled by other operating systems.

It's time to move on to direct data recovery using this wonderful program. To do this, just click on the upper left button labeled "Wizard". The wizard's menu will open before the user. The selected disk will be analyzed.

The program divides all partitions into three categories: logical, removable and hard drives. To restore data, you must select the appropriate section. Specify it and then click Next. You will be prompted to select the type of analysis.

The choice consists of two options:

  • Fast scanning.
  • Complete analysis.
  • 1 filter will detect NTFS files. Most of the internal sections work in this space.
  • 2 the filter will process files belonging to the FAT system. This formatting is more typical for removable media, but there are such files on the computer's hard drive. Linux OS also works with the FAT system.
  • Deep analysis works independently of the file system. In the course of its work, the program simply finds on the disk all the files that were there at one time or are present at the moment. However, it is undesirable to use only in-depth analysis, as part of the information may be lost. It is best to parse a section using all three filters.

If you select a quick scan, some of the files will simply not be found. Only whole files will be found, without any signs of damage.

After the analysis is complete, the program will inform you how many folders and individual files were found in this section.

To view all the files found during the analysis, you need to go to the main menu of the program by clicking the "Finish" button.

In the center of the program window you will see a folder named "Deep Analysis". Double-clicking on it will open the contents of the folder. In order to restore the selected files, you must select them in this folder, and then click the "Restore" button on the top panel. This will offer the following choice of where to save them:

  • To the hard drive.
  • Removable media.
  • Mounting the image.
  • Uploading to the Internet via FTP-protocol.

In this window, you should select the location for saving files, the option to restore the structure of deleted folders, as well as restore file streams to NTFS. After that, the "Restore" button is pressed. All found files will be restored to the location you specified.

How to get NTFS back from RAW file system without data loss?

What is RAW file system and how to recover NTFS format without data loss - in this article we will take a closer look at these issues, as well as recovery methods.

It often happens that after an incorrect shutdown of your computer, for example, if you unplugged the power cord or the lights in your house are unexpectedly turned off, or your computer has survived a virus attack, an unpleasant situation may occur. The file system of the disk on your computer or laptop changes its format to RAW and for the device to work properly (as a rule, you want to do this as quickly as possible), you need to return it to NTFS format.

What is a RAW disc

So, the RAW file system type, let's figure out what it is. The RAW system is a non-existent system. If the computer indicates that the storage medium has this format, then the drivers cannot determine the type of its file system (FAT, FAT32 OR NTFS).

If the media received the RAW format, Windows 10, although it will display it among the partitions of the hard drive, but any actions with it will be impossible, and defragmentation, and checking for errors, and, of course, viewing the data lying on the disk. The computer will constantly give an error, and offer to format the disk, and in the line “properties of the logical disk” will appear “RAW”. So how do you recover a file system from RAW to NTFS on your hard drive?

Recover file system from RAW to NTFS

The system will offer you the easiest way - to format the disk. But do not rush to do this, because your data has not been lost, now there is simply no access to it. If you format a RAW disk to convert the file system back to NTFS, you will have to recover data from the media for a long time using special programs. We offer several ways to recover a disk from RAW to NTFS without data loss.

Recover file system in NTFS from RAW without formatting

Method 1: Windows Tools

Mainly, to change the file system from RAW to NTFS, the standard utility from the operating system chkdsk helps. Follow the procedure below:

  • Right-click on "Start" and select "Command Prompt"
  • Type chkdsk drive_letter: / f
  • The computer will start a check, after which it will repair the damage and the NTFS system in the problem area

Shkdsk will also help if the system disk is damaged. To do this, you need a USB flash drive or boot disk.

Here are your steps:

  • Start the computer from a flash drive or disk, and then select "Recovery"
  • Then open "advanced options", followed by "command line". There enter chkdsk drive_letter: / f

During recovery, the letters of the partitions may differ from the names of the disks. In order to avoid an error in the work, open the list of computer partitions in the command line, then enter diskpart, then list volume and you will see which disk is the system one. This will be listed.

Alternatively, you can try restoring your system from previously saved backups.

Method 2: Using special programs

And here's how to make NTFS from the RAW file system using third-party programs.

First of all, we recommend using the free Testdisk program. It is a utility that interacts with hard disk partitions. She will help fix the situation. The disadvantage of working with the Testdisk program is that it does not work with Russian names and they may be displayed incorrectly.

Here's how to convert RAW to NTFS using Testdisk:

RAW format on your flash drive

Reasons for conversion:

  1. When a USB flash drive is connected, the computer is not turned off properly or there is a voltage drop
  2. Windows crash
  3. Banal viruses
  4. External damage to the flash drive, from impact or fall

How to change the wrong format of the system to the correct one:

Converter MiniTool Power Data Recovery gives a good result. The principle of its operation is that the program does not convert RAW into the required format, but makes all the files on your flash drive visible, which makes it possible to work with them. The disadvantage of the program is that only a trial version is free, which works with files no more than 1 GB.

How to work with the program:

Restore the HDD file system with the preservation of all data

The problem with the appearance of the RAW file system can befall not only removable media, but also a hard drive with data or a separate partition of the hard drive. If the malfunction is of a software nature, then it can be corrected using formatting. However, changing the format using standard Windows tools is fraught with the appearance of deleted data.

If the file system of your hard disk is detected as RAW, and the system persistently prompts you to format it, then it is better to skip this procedure. Disconnect the hard drive, do not carry out any more operations with it, in order to avoid accidental overwriting.

Important: if the hard drive is physically damaged, then you should not try to repair it yourself.

If, upon examination, you find that the hard drive is physically sound, then first try to restore the file system using the CHKDSK utility. This will help to avoid the subsequent time-consuming recovery of deleted files.

Using the CHKDSK utility

The CHKDSK utility is a built-in hard drive diagnostics and repair tool. The problem is that if the file system is damaged, then you will not be able to start the system. Therefore, the CHKDSK utility will have to be launched using the installation disk:

A parameter in the command syntax means to start searching and fixing errors. The letter "d:" designates the disk to be scanned. If the operation is successful, errors are found and eliminated, then you will again get a scratch disk with a normal file system and without deleted important data.

Extracting files with R-Studio

If the TestDisk program did not help to get rid of the RAW format, and you did not return the NTFS or FAT32 file system, then you will have to go the other way. You will need:

  • Another computer with a scratch disk and system installed.
  • R-Studio program.

Remove the RAW file system HDD and connect it to another computer. To avoid the appearance of deleted files, start R-Studio. Here you need:

You need to save the files to a different drive than the one from which they were just extracted. The hard drive format will not change - it will remain RAW. To recover the HDD, format it as suggested by the system. The format will change, but there will be no problems with the deleted files, since you previously "pulled" them from the damaged media.

Formatting to NTFS

If you need to format your hard drive to the NTFS file system, without losing information, you can try to do this through the command line. This will not solve the RAW issue; you cannot use this method to change to FAT32 either. But if you need to change the format of a disk or partition from FAT32 to NTFS, then try the following steps:

Enter the command "convert G: / FS: NTFS / X". Instead of "G" there should be the letter of the hard disk you connected, the partition format of which you want to change from FAT32 to NTFS. Executing this command will help you avoid data loss, that is, you will not have to recover deleted files, since formatting is not required.

How to repair the file system of a hard drive

Photos from open sources

A situation in which the hard drive needs to be repaired can happen to every PC user. You may need it for various reasons. One of them is file system corruption.

If the disk is used for its intended purpose, it has the FAT or NTFS file system. These formats indicate that it works well and does not require recovery. But sometimes it turns into RAW. How do you know if a failure has occurred? If you have accessed the disk, but it does not open and a message appears about the need to format it, then a failure has occurred.

This message can mean the following:

  1. The structure of the filesystem being used has been destroyed;
  2. There is no clear access to the content;
  3. Invalid data was written to the boot sector.
If you open the properties section, you can see that it seems to contain no information. But you still need to restore the file system to get back the lost data. It is offered free of charge. It makes it possible to return lost data to a state that is close to ideal. Let's say our hard drive has several partitions. For example, section D turned out to be damaged. Select the damaged section in the program, then indicate the type of structure that we have. In our example, this is Intel / PC partition. We select the Analyze item. The analysis will be carried out and a list of partitions for recovery will be presented. Select the Quick search option. It, in turn, will select all files from the partitions. After you find what you need, click the Write button. After all the performed actions, the lost information will be restored. Its interface is pretty simple. The main menu has 3 parts. On the left is a list of hard drives and logical partitions. Their data loading is shown in the center. The files selected by the user are displayed on the right.
  1. To start recovery, you must click "Master". Then the operation menu will appear. The hard drive will be analyzed.
  2. All partitions in the program are divided into 3 categories: hard drives, removable drives and logical drives. In order to start data recovery, you need to select the desired partition. Then click "Next". You will be prompted to select the type of analysis: online scan or full analysis.
  3. Better to do a full analysis right away. It processes 3 filters at once. The first filter will compute NTFS systems. The second one will process files that belong to this system. Deep analysis will work regardless of the file system.
  4. If you choose the first option, then some of the files will simply not be found. In this case, files may be found that do not show signs of damage.
  5. After that, you can start scanning. The larger the volume of the scanned disk, the longer the process will be.
  6. After the analysis is complete, you will find out how many folders are in this section.
  7. In order to get acquainted with all the files found during the analysis, you need to go to the main menu and click "Finish".
  8. The "Deep Analysis" folder will appear in the center of the window. Next, you will need to select them in this folder, and then click "Restore". It remains to choose a place to save them.
  9. In this window, you will need to select the location to save the data, the option to restore the structure of folders that have been deleted, and restore file streams to NTFS. After that, you will need to click the "Restore" button.

RAW format of HDD disks: how to fix NTFS using Windows tools or third-party software

Most often, the file system of the disk changes to RAW after an improper shutdown of the computer, when the lights were turned off, or the user saved time and pulled out the power cord of the system unit from the outlet. Another reason is viruses that change NTFS to RAW format of HDD disks. How to fix this problem, read this article.

What is RAW File System?

If the disk has received the RAW format, Windows will display it among other partitions of the hard drive. But when you try to open it, the computer will give an error and offer to format it. In addition, any actions with this volume will be inaccessible: checking for errors, defragmenting, etc. (it is useful to read "How to check the integrity of Windows 10 system files and restore them?").

As such, the RAW file system does not exist. If the disk receives such formatting, it means that the computer drivers are not able to determine the type of its file system - NTFS, FAT or FAT32. In practice, this happens in several cases:

  • the file system structure is damaged;
  • the partition has not been formatted;
  • there is no correct access to the contents of the volume.

If the volume with the OS is damaged, the warnings "Reboot and selеct proper boot device" or "Operating System not found" will appear when the computer boots.

Recovery

If the problem occurs on a non-system disk, but it contains important information that will disappear during formatting, use standard Windows tools or third-party programs to fix the error.

Basically, the standard chkdsk utility helps to fix problems with formatting in RAW.

After checking, the computer will repair the damaged sectors and the NTFS file system on the problem volume.

Important! This method is effective if the flash drive or hard drive was formatted in NTFS.

Also, the chkdsk utility will help when the system disk is damaged. But for this you need a bootable disk or flash drive.

  1. Start the computer from a bootable USB flash drive or disk → Select "System Restore".
  2. Advanced options -> command line -> enter chkdsk desired drive letter: / f.

Partition letters in a recovery environment differ from the names of logical drives. In order not to be mistaken, open the list of computer partitions in the command line.

Enter diskpart → list volume → the list will indicate which disk is the system disk.

Good to know! If these methods do not help, try restoring your system from previously saved backups.

There are third-party programs that help restore the NTFS file system if for some reason it has been reformatted to RAW. They do not damage user information stored on the volume, unlike the chkdsk utility, which can "touch" them during the recovery process.

MiniTool Power Data Recovery

Important! This method is most effective if the RAW file system appeared on the flash drive.

The utility does not restore the required format, but makes all the files stored on the media visible. Therefore, you can work with them. The main disadvantage of MiniTool Power Data Recovery is that it is shareware. The trial version works with files up to 1 GB in size (also read "Recovering Information from Disks with Disk Drill for Windows").

TestDisk

This is a multifunctional freeware utility that works with hard disk partitions with a large number of options. The program is presented in a portable version, therefore, does not require installation. The main disadvantage of TestDisk is that there is no Russified interface.

An alternative way to restore NTFS formatting of a partition is presented in the video.

Many users have faced a problem when, without any prerequisites, the hard drive ceased to be displayed as local and gave a message stating that it was not formatted and was working as a RAW file system. In panic, people formatted the media, losing important data. If you encounter the same error, you do not need to agree with Windows' suggestion and format the disk. It can be restored.

Why does the RAW file system appear?

In theory, the RAW file system is initially installed on the hard disk and indicates that it is not partitioned, that is, clean. After installing it in the system unit and formatting it, it is suitable for installing an operating system or storing data. However, even formatted discs can be detected as RAW. This may be due to the following factors:

  • Abrupt power off (power surges, emergency shutdown from the socket).
  • If the USB cable was disconnected or the SATA connector came out while copying data.
  • If it is an external drive, then such an error can occur if the device is removed unsafely, that is, without using the system tray options.
  • TV connection that formats the device to fit its format.
  • Defeat by viruses.
  • Physical damage to the hard drive.

In the event that the reason for converting a disk to the RAW file system was a power outage, improper removal of the device, or an emergency shutdown, the data can be successfully restored. Otherwise, the disc can only be repaired without saving the information.

Method number 1. Disk recovery without saving data. Windows boots

The fastest way to get your system back on track is to accept Windows' offer and format the disk.

It is safer to format a disk through the Disk Control Panel. To do this, do the following:

  • Click "Start", "Control Panel", "System and Security", "Administrative Tools" and select "Create and format hard drive partitions".
  • A new window will open. Select the drive that displays the RAW file system. Click on it with the right mouse button and select "Format".

  • Select the format and click "OK". After formatting, the disk will be ready for use.

Method number 2. If RAW System Appears Not on Drive C

If the D drive begins to appear as a RAW file system and you need to recover lost data, it is worth checking it for errors. To do this, do the following:

  • We go into disk management and look at the drive letter, which is displayed as RAW.
  • Open the command line with Administrator rights and enter "chkdsk D: / f", where "D" is a disk with the RAW file system.

  • Often, after fixing the errors, the drive reverts to its old NTFS file system.

Method number 3. Windows won't boot. Local drive C is now RAW

If the operating system does not load, you need to remove the hard drive from the system unit or laptop, connect it to the working computer and check for errors via the command line. If this helps, the disk will be rebuilt.

If you have an installation disc with the version and bitness of your OS, you should run System Restore.

We enter the command "chkdsk D: / f", where we indicate the drive letter.

You can view the drive letter through notepad. In the command line, enter "notepad". Next, "File", "Open". Explorer will appear, in which you can see the drive letter.

After checking and correcting errors, the old disk format can be restored.

Hello.

This is how you work with a hard disk, work, and then suddenly turn on your computer - and you see an oil painting: the disk is not formatted, the file system is RAW, no files are visible and nothing can be copied from it. What to do in this case ( by the way, there are a lot of questions of this kind, and this is how the topic of this article was born)?

Well, first of all, do not panic and do not rush, and disagree with Windows suggestions (unless, of course, you do not know 100% what these or those operations mean). It's better to turn off your PC for now (if you have an external hard drive, disconnect it from your computer, laptop).

Reasons for the appearance of the RAW file system

The RAW file system means that the disk is not partitioned (that is, "raw" if you translate literally), there is no file system specified on it. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but most often it is:

  • abrupt power off when the computer is running (for example, they turned off the light, then turned on - the computer rebooted, and then you see RAW on the disk and a proposal to format it);
  • if we are talking about an external hard disk, then this often happens to them when, when copying information to them, the USB cable is disconnected (it is recommended: always before disconnecting the cable, in the tray (next to the clock), press the button to safely disconnect the disk);
  • if you do not work correctly with programs for changing partitions of hard drives, formatting them, etc.;
  • also very often many users connect their external hard drive to the TV - it formats them in its own format, and then the PC cannot read it, showing the RAW system (to read such a disk, it is better to use special utilities that can read the file system of the disk , in which it was formatted by the TV / TV set-top box);
  • when a PC is infected with virus applications;
  • in case of a "physical" malfunction of the piece of iron (it is unlikely that something can be done on their own to "save" the data) ...

If the reason for the appearance of the RAW file system is improper disconnection of the disk (or power outage, improper shutdown of the PC), then in most cases, the data can be safely restored. In other cases, the chances are lower, but they also exist :).

Case 1: Windows boots, data on the disk is not needed, just to quickly restore the drive's performance

The easiest and fastest way to get rid of RAW is to simply format the hard drive to another file system (exactly what Windows offers us).

Attention! During formatting, all information from the hard disk will be deleted. Be careful, and if you have the necessary files on the disk, it is not recommended to use this method.

It is best to format the disk from the system disk management(not always and not all disks are visible in "my computer", moreover, in disk management you will immediately see the entire structure of all disks).

To open it, just go to Windows control panel, then open the section "", then in the subsection " Administration"Open link" Creating and formatting hard drive partitions"(As in Fig. 1).

Rice. 1. System and Security (Windows 10).

Next, select the disk with the RAW file system and format it (you just need to right-click on the desired disk partition, then select the “Format” option from the menu, see Fig. 2).

Rice. 2. Formatting the disk in exercise. disks.

After formatting, the disk will be like "new" (without files) - now you can record everything that is required on it (well, do not disconnect it abruptly from the electricity :)).

Case 2: Windows boots (RAW file system not on Windows drive)

If you need files on the disk, then formatting the disk is highly discouraged! First, you need to try to check the disk for errors and fix them - in most cases the disk starts working normally. Let's take a look at the steps.

1) First go to disk management (Control Panel / System and Security / Administration / Create and format hard drive partitions ), see above in the article.

2) Remember the letter of the drive where you have the RAW file system.

3) Run command line as administrator. In Windows 10, this is done simply: right-click on the START menu, and in the pop-up menu, select “ Command Line (Admin)«.

5) After the introduction of the command - checking and correcting errors should begin, if any. Quite often, at the end of the scan, Windows will inform you that the errors have been corrected and no further action is required. This means that you can start working with the disk, the RAW file system in this case changes to your previous one (usually FAT 32 or NTFS).

Rice. 4. There are no errors (or they have been fixed) - everything is in order.

Case 3: Windows won't boot (RAW on Windows drive)

1) What to do if there is no installation disk (flash drive) with Windows ...

In this case, there is a simple way out: remove the hard drive from the computer (laptop) and insert it into another computer. Then, on another computer, check it for errors (see above in the article) and if they are corrected, use it further.

You can also resort to another option: take a bootable disk from someone and install Windows on another disk, and then, having already booted from it, check the one that is marked as RAW.

2) If you have an installation disc ...

Everything is much easier :). First, boot from it, and instead of installing, select System Restore (this link is always in the lower left corner of the window at the beginning of the installation, see Fig. 5).

Next, among the recovery menu, find command line and run it. In it, we need to run a check of the hard drive on which Windows is installed. How to do this, because the letters have changed, tk. did we boot from a flash drive (installation disk)?

1. Quite simple: first start notepad from the command line (command notepad and look in it which drives and with which letters. Remember the letter of the drive on which you have Windows installed).

2. Then close notepad and run the check in the already known way: chkdsk d: / f (and ENTER).

By the way, usually the drive letter is shifted by 1: i.e. if the system drive is "C:" - then when booting from the installation disk, it becomes the letter "D:". But this does not always happen, there are exceptions!

If the above methods did not help, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with TestDisk. Quite often helps in solving problems with hard drives.

If you need to get deleted data from your hard drive (or flash drive), I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the list of the most famous data recovery programs: ( you will definitely pick up something).

Best wishes!
