How to clean your computer from ad viruses. Uninstall unknown, suspicious and unused programs

Probably the most popular and annoying problem on the Internet for ordinary users is constantly appearing ads in the browser. If you click on each site to open pop-up ads with ads, then you have a malware, application or virus installed. Getting rid of this is not always easy.

It's called AdWare. Its creators make money from the fact that you view ads. Usually advertisements are broadcast in pop-up windows of various bookmakers and casinos.

I will try to show universal ways of solving this problem in all popular browsers ( Opera, Yandex, Chrome ..) and help you get rid of this ad forever.

Remove ads without additional programs

Since the applications and programs that cause the pop-ups to appear are not viruses, your antivirus may not see them. Follow a series of steps for this instruction:

  1. Disable all applications in your browser. If the advertisement appeared because of him, then it will disappear.
  2. Remove suspicious programs. It is possible that any of them is the cause of the advertisement.
  3. Remove unnecessary ones.

Do not forget to restart your computer after completing all the steps. Perhaps you are lucky and you removed the ads with these simple steps, if not, read on.

Getting rid of ads with AdwCleaner

This program is free and created specifically for such cases with ads. It will cope with the virus if it is in the browser. Download it from the official site and run ( no installation required). Scan.

Then check all tabs ( highlighted in yellow in the image), uncheck the required items ( if you are sure) and clean. Then the computer will reboot, the program will clean up and set the default browser settings. I found 3 problems in the registry.

After rebooting, you will see a progress report. Open your browser and check the result. If the ad remains, don't be discouraged. Use the following method.

Get rid of ads with Anti-Malware

If other methods do not help, use this program. It was created specifically to combat AdWare. The developers provide free access for 14 days, which is enough for you to remove ads. Download it from the official site and install.

Run a system scan. Remove all found objects using this program.

Usually these three methods will be enough to solve this problem.

Manual way to remove ads

Didn't the other methods help you? Then try to get rid of ads in the browser by removing the process responsible for its appearance. Use the free Process Explorer program. To do this, download it, and run ( no installation required). You need to find suspicious processes and remove them. The program has a detailed description for each of them.

If you are in doubt about a process, then it can be checked for viruses. To do this, select it and open the context menu. In it, select "Check VirusTotal" as in the image below. The results will be shown in the column to the right. You can also simply search for information about him in any search engine.

As soon as you find the process responsible for displaying ads - try to stop it and check ( restarting the computer) whether the ad has disappeared. If it reappears, find the location of the files that run it and delete them. To do this, select "Properties" from the context menu.

The path to the files will be displayed here ( a random process is taken as an example). Go there and delete them.

If you cannot delete for some reason, then try to do it through safe mode. To do this, you need to enable it.

Go to the Windows Runtime ( Win + R) and enter the command msconfig as shown in the image below.

Go to the path that was specified in the parameters and delete the files. Now advertising should be gone.

Checking the task scheduler

If all of the above methods did not work, then you need to go to the Windows Task Scheduler and see what is there. Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Task Scheduler.

First, turn on the display of hidden tasks.

Then remove suspicious tasks and the tabs with ads will no longer appear. Below is a demonstration of how everything should roughly look for you.

Possible problems after removing the virus

Adware leaves several problems in its wake. It can change start page from shortcut, change hosts file and network setting. Now I will show you how to fix it all.

Fix shortcut

Sometimes it is not possible to change the start page when turning on the browser. Therefore, most likely the virus added the address of its page to the address in the shortcut.

To fix this go to your browser's shortcut property. Open the "Shortcut" tab and in it delete all the characters that are located behind the quotes in the "Object" field as in the example below.

Or just delete the shortcut and create a new one.

The virus can block access to search engines and other sites through the hosts file. You need to fix it. This can be done with a text editor ( notepad or other).

Go to the explorer My computer and go to the path: Your disk with the system ( usually drive C) >> Windows >> System32 >> Drivers >> etc. Open hosts with a text editor. Delete all lines up to the bottom first character # and save the file.

Correcting network settings

Perhaps, when you enter the browser, you have an error connecting to the proxy server. You can fix it in the network settings.

Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Internet Property. Here go to the "Connections" tab and go to the network settings.

In this window, leave the "Automatic detection of parameters" as in the image below, and remove the rest.

There should be no more mistakes.

Poll Options are limited because JavaScript is disabled in your browser.

No way. Nothing helped! 69%, 37 of votes

Found an automatic task in the scheduler and deleted it. 7%, 4 vote

Description of the problem: When you open any site in the browser, an advertisement pops up. Pop-up viral banners obscure content and web pages load slowly. When you click on the links in the browser, windows and tabs with advertisements open. This article describes, how to remove ads in the browser Google Chrome, Yandex, Opera, Mozilla, Internet Explorer.

Example of a window with third-party banners:

Where do third-party browser ads come from?

Why doesn't the antivirus remove ads from the browser?

An ad banner is not a virus per se. The user himself launches the program that makes changes to the system, thinking that he has downloaded a game or something safe. And the antivirus sees that the file was not launched by itself, as is the case with a virus, but it was launched by the user on his own behalf.

How to remove ads in the browser - detailed effective instructions

1 Go to Control Panel and select the item Programs and Features... Review the list of installed programs carefully. Remove the following unwanted programs if they are present in the list:

3 Check the settings on the start pages. Remove the start page that the virus prescribed. (Instructions for Google Chrome :)

Attention! Instead of points 2 and 3, you can. But please note that in this case you will remove everything applications, extensions, settings of search engines and start pages. After the reset, you'll have to set up browsers from scratch.

6 Check for changes in browser shortcuts. Most often, malicious programs write a start page there. If in the field An object the start page of the view has been added http: //site-name.ru , then in order to remove ads in the browser, erase the site address and save the shortcut with the OK button:

If you are unable to save the shortcut, check that on the tab Are common there was no jackdaw Only reading... If it is, remove it and press Apply. After that go to the tab Label, delete the postscript and save the change in the shortcut with the button OK.

Subscriptions often appear for navigating to the following (often malicious) sites:

  • Reinstall your favorite browser and see the result.
  • If there are no banners, install other browsers if you need them.

Viruses have always been a plague for users of computers running Windows, and the more actively the Internet developed, the more they became. Nowadays the most popular viruses are of the Adware class, which infect a computer and show the user various kinds of advertisements against his will. These can be pop-up advertising pages, individual banners on websites, pop-up banners, and many other types of advertisements. When an Adware virus infects a computer, advertisements pop up in all browsers without exception, and this is extremely dangerous for the user. The fact is that most often such advertising leads to sites infected with viruses that are more dangerous for a computer, up to malware that can encrypt files or steal personal data of users. There are several reliable ways to get rid of adware viruses on your computer, and they will be discussed below.

Please note: The instructions below will occasionally feature the Google Chrome browser. If your main browser is not it, but, for example, Opera or Yandex Browser, project the recommended actions on it.

How to remove ads in the browser automatically

The first thing to turn to if you have problems with a virus on your computer is antivirus applications. There are a lot of them, both widespread and little-known. In this case, it is recommended to select special programs to remove Adware and Malware threats, and below we will consider a couple of such applications.

Malwarebytes Antimalware

One of the most famous free antiviruses that can fight ad viruses is Malwarebytes Antimalware. It helps to deal with malware in all browsers installed on your computer.

Malwarebytes Antimalware is extremely easy to use. It must be downloaded to your computer, then installed and launched. Then select the required scan option and wait for the results. A quick scan with an antivirus takes less than 20 minutes. The detected virus files must be quarantined or deleted.

Another good program for fighting Malware and Adware threats is Hitman Pro. The application is distributed for money, but the developers provide users with the opportunity to try its functionality for free for 30 days, which is more than enough to remove ads in the browser once.

After starting the Hitman Pro application, select the option "I am going to scan the system only once", after which the process of searching and eliminating threats on the computer will start. Wait until it completes and remove the dangerous programs found.

When the computer is checked by antivirus software, restart it and try using the browser in standard mode. If the advertisement no longer bothers you, the threat can be considered eliminated. If the problem persists, go to the manual method of cleaning your computer from viruses.

How to remove pop-up ads in your browser manually

When antiviruses do not help to cope with the manifestations of malicious applications on the computer, you should try to clean the system manually. Follow the steps below in sequence to get rid of the ad virus for sure.

Remove pop-up ads from Task Scheduler

Modern adware viruses have learned an interesting trick - to write a command to launch a particular advertising page directly into the task scheduler. This leads to the fact that even with a closed browser, pages with advertisements begin to open. This problem is resolved as follows:

Close Task Scheduler and restart your computer. Check if the advertising page will open in the browser under the previous system use model. If not, the problem is considered resolved. If the ad still pops up, proceed to the next steps.

Examination

Very often, adware viruses make changes to the system Hosts file. If you are not particularly versed in the information that should be entered in Hosts, read the corresponding article on our website, where everything is detailed.

To check the Hosts file, you need to go to the system drive to the Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc folders and open Hosts file using a notepad. Next, look at the lines inserted after the last line starting with a hash. If there are such lines, remove them and save the file.

Please note: If you use unlicensed software, often when it is installed, commands are written in Hosts that prohibit it from contacting the application server. Accordingly, after following the recommendation to delete all lines after the last lattice, problems may arise with the operation of cracked applications on the computer.

Virus detection and removal

Virus processes often run in the background, which leads to their ubiquitous appearance in the system and spontaneous launch of browsers with advertising pages. Naturally, viruses try to be encrypted under various names, so that it would be difficult to find them in the list of programs (if any) and in the task manager. Here are a few names of the most common viruses that can run in the background and launch various advertisements in the browser: CodecDefaultKernel, Conduit, Search Protect, Browser Protect, Pirrit Suggestor, Mobogenie, Webalta. These names should be guided by following the steps described below.

The first step is to check the list of installed applications for virus programs. To do this, through the "Control Panel" run the list of programs and components installed on the system, and view it for suspicious applications. If any are found, try searching for information about the program on the Internet. It is not difficult to determine that it is viral if it has a large number of complaints from users. Remove any suspicious programs and restart your computer.

If the problem persists after removing all viruses that were found in the list of programs and components, you need to look for them using the "Task Manager". To do this, start the "Task Manager" (by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del and selecting the appropriate item), and then in the list of processes find suspicious ones. As with programs, use the Internet to determine if a suspicious process is a virus. If so, right-click on it in the "Task Manager" and "Open file storage location".

Remember where the virus is and restart your computer in Safe Mode. After that, go to the folder where the virus program was located and delete it. Next, reboot the normal version of Windows and see if the problem persists. If yes, but this process no longer starts, look for other virus processes, and if they are not found, go to the next step of the instructions.

Disable extensions

Often, browser extensions are the culprit for "unnecessary" ads that can pop up on all sites in a row, including those launched in new windows. Each user has a set of extensions that he fully trusts, but this does not mean that they cannot contain Adware threats.

To check the extensions for "cleanliness", you need to disable them all. Next, see if the viral ad problem persists. If not, then start turning on the extensions in the browser one by one and monitor the reaction until the problem appears. Accordingly, in this way it will be possible to identify the infected extension and then remove it.

Please note: Many users trust the AdBlock extension, but the problem is that this extension has several clones with the same name, but with completely different functionality. Most often, it is the presence of a viral AdBlock in the list of browser extensions that is a problem that leads to a large number of ads on the pages of sites.

Clearing the shortcut from automatically going to the site

Even if you have already removed the viruses after the tips given above, do not forget about one more problem - "shortcut infection". Simply put, in the properties of the shortcut in the "Object" line, the virus writes a page to which the user immediately gets after starting the browser. This is dangerous because this page may contain viruses that will automatically download to your computer. Make sure that the direct path to the exe file is set in the "Object" column of the browser shortcut properties.

What to do if after removing viruses

Often, after removing viruses from the computer, the user is faced with the problem that when going to any page in the browser, the error "Unable to connect to the proxy server" appears. This problem is solved quite simply:

: auto mode

Dr.Web CureIt! healing utility

A fairly well-known and good program aimed at problems of this nature. When downloading and installing free version immediately warns that data about the viruses found are sent to the server, without sending it is possible only for money. Maybe that's why it works well, because every day, in many thousands, it sends reports to programmers, and among them are "newly-made" viruses.

The utility is intended for temporary use and is not located in active system files - it is downloaded and installed without installation. Download link from the official website .

AdwCleaner utility.

This program is free and like the previous one, it is intended for temporary use and remains active on the computer.

  • By clicking on the link AdwCleaner, download by clicking " Download now”And run the boot file.
  • Press the button " Scan"And then, after the program finds the virus files, press" Clear«

We remove ads using the Hitman Pro application

  • Sufficiently effective utility Hitman Pro. It finds most unwanted virus programs well and removes them. The program is supplied under the Shareware license, but the first 30 days of use are absolutely free, and this will be enough for you.

  • Download the Hitman Pro program from the manufacturer's official website and run her. Select the option " I'm only going to scan the system once". In this case, the program will not be installed on your computer's hard drive, but will automatically start scanning your system for malware.

  • Once the scan is complete, you can remove the detected adware viruses. Then restart your computer and check if the problem is resolved.

Remove pop-up ads with Malwarebytes Antimalware

If Hitman Pro fails, try this option. This is another free application for getting rid of malware, including Adware, which initiates the launch of ad windows in Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and other browsers.

Download the Malwarebytes Antimalware program from the official website - install the utility, scan the system and remove the found programs

Restart your computer and run your browser to see if the problem is resolved.

Get rid of annoying ads manually

If you have reached these lines, then the above methods did not help to save you from advertising in the browser and we will try to do it. manually... It should be noted right away that while downloading files, for example from torrent trackers or other downloaders, a large number of programs are installed without warning.

The user may not know that he has launched dangerous applications or extensions into his system, since they can leak onto the computer unnoticed along with the necessary programs, some of them are browsers and add-ons to them, applications for quick access to social networks and other unknown and dubious programs that can be tracked (not always):

  • To do this, go to " Control Panel"(In the start menu) and then" Programs and Features«.

  • We look last installed programs, if the name of the program (often the creators of such viruses disguise themselves as useful ones, downloader, helper, etc.) and the installation number coincides in the date of occurrence of such a problem, then remove them, but usually such malicious add-ons manage to "inherit" a lot by running processes on the computer (you don't see them) or extensions in browsers and changing their temporary files.

Replacing browser shortcuts

  • Right-click on the browser shortcut used and see where it leads.

  • If there are extraneous records, except for the storage location of the boot file, then delete them.

We are looking for the source of the problem through the task manager

The processes listed below may be causing your problem. Open the task manager ( Alt + Ctrl + Delete). Then go to the " Processes"(Windows 7) or on the" Details"(Windows 8, 8.1). Click " Show processes of all users". Find the above names in the running processes. In the task manager, pay attention to the following process names:

  • pirritdesktop.exe (and other processes with the word pirrit);
  • search project (and other processes with the word search, except for the Windows SearchIndexer service - you cannot touch it);
  • awesomehp, conduit, babylon, webalta, websocial, CodecDefaultKernel.exe, mobogenie.

  • You can check them by right-clicking and opening the location of the file and the installation number of this file (which is a sign). These processes must be completed, and you should learn about the files that launched them on the Internet - surely other people have also encountered a similar problem, and you will find the right solution.
  • If you cannot delete some files, then you can do this through safe mode. To do this, click on the keyboard buttons with the logo Win + R, enter msconfig and press " OK».

Put " Safe mode", Click" OK" and reboot the system... After rebooting, it is worth checking the active Windows services to find links to the viral process.

Remove adware browser extensions

  • In addition to viruses and programs on the hard drive, ads can pop up as a result of activity installed extensions... Open the list of browser extensions in which you are working (below is an example for the Opera browser).

  • Disable questionable extensions that you haven't installed that cause ads to appear.

Virus changes to the hosts file

To fix the hosts file go to the folder Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc\, open the file hosts - notepad. Erase all lines below the last one, which starts with a hash. Save the file.

  • The first highlighted addresses that start with a hash in the line are an example (not active) of how to enter the required addresses set by default, all the rest are changes made that need to be deleted (if you did not fit in). Here, the IP addresses of pages, such as social networks or search engines, can be spoofed, as a result of which you will be redirected to fake sites that are outwardly indistinguishable from the original, but with advertising or possibly even fraudulent actions.

Blocking viral ads and pop-ups with the Adguard extension

A large number of positive reviews about this application, namely about the effectiveness in the fight against intrusive advertising and the speed of browsers with this program. Link to download Adguard from the official website and details of its functionality. After downloading - run the installation file.

Blocking ads with the AdBlock extension

If you see unwanted ads, you can try installing the AdBlock extension. However, it does not always effectively help with pop-up windows, especially of this nature, but the creators of this application are constantly working to improve their capabilities.

  • Be careful while installing AdBlock. There are quite a few similarly named browser extensions that disguise themselves as a useful utility, but cause pop-ups themselves. It is recommended to install AdBlock (from the official site).

I faced such a problem personally, a friend on a computer displays a bunch of ad units on absolutely all pages (even in search engines on Yandex, Google), pages open by themselves and at the same time, no matter what browser to use, I tried it on different ones - Firefox, Chrome, IE ... Everywhere the same result is advertising on the pages. At the same time, he had Kapersky's antivirus installed, which was regularly updated. Even an antivirus check did not lead to anything - the advertisement was displayed on the sites as it is displayed.

Here is an example - the official site of ASUS, such advertising cannot be there.

Checking browser extensions to remove ads on sites.

You need to check which extensions are installed and enabled in the browser.

To see the extension in Firefox, you need to open the browser, click on the "Menu" button, select "Add-ons".

For Chrome browser users, follow these steps: Click Menu - Tools - Extensions.

A window will open with all installed extensions.

If you see suspicious extensions, disable or remove them. If you do not understand why you are using this or that add-on, just turn it off, nothing bad will happen, just some extra will turn off. the Internet function will work, if you do not notice the extension is disabled, then you do not need it and you can remove it. For the most inexperienced, I would recommend disabling all add-ons, and checking if ads appear on sites (restart the browser first), if ads disappeared, then enable the extensions one by one and check the appearance of ads, so you will calculate the viral add-on and remove it.

We remove "garbage" from the computer / laptop.

The next step is to clean up the junk from your computer. By trash I mean temporary folders, trash can, etc. To do this, you can use a free program that does not require installation - CCleaner... Unzip the downloaded archive and run the corresponding version of your operating system EXE file (x86 or x64). The program will start, on the Cleaning menu, the items that need to be deleted will be checked, I recommend leaving everything by default, pressing the "Analysis" button, after the analysis is over, the "Cleaning" button.

The CCleaner program will not affect the files you need, if you look closely at the points, you will see that it will only remove potential garbage - temporary files, trash, cookies, browser cache, etc.

We get rid of viral advertising on websites by cleaning unnecessary programs in a computer / laptop.

Few people know, but in addition to the installed one program, you can install one more or several in parallel, or change the default browser, or change the start page in the browser. This is not always good, because they usually try to hide the changes made to the computer (for example, the installation of a virus). What to do to avoid this:

1) Do not download programs from torrnets or suspicious sites, if you want not to pick up any infection, go to the official website of the program and download from it.

2) When installing programs, carefully check the checkboxes and items installed there, it is because of the thoughtless pressing of the "Next" button that you can change the settings or install unnecessary programs in parallel.

So, it is quite possible that by installing one program you installed a virus that inserts ads into all sites, in order to check it, go and see the list of installed programs and remove unnecessary ones. To do this, go to "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Programs and Features".

Here you will see all the programs that are installed on your computer / laptop. Take a close look at the suspicious and unfamiliar to you. Remember when you started displaying ad units on sites and see what programs were installed at that time, if there is an extra program that you did not install. This method helped in my case. I discovered a program I was not familiar with, NetCrawl, after uninstalling which ad blocks disappeared from all sites and browsers.

We clean your computer / laptop from viruses.

Well, the last step, even if you removed the malicious program, clean your computer / laptop from viruses. I recommend cleaning not with one antivirus, but with several, you can "one-time", for example
