How to Update iOS - Complete update instructions. How to update iOS software on iPad and iPhone using computer and Wi-Fi

We considered the issue of updating the mobile operating system, but today we will touch on two generations of users: those who use iOS no jailbreak and those who can't live without the Cydia store and we will try to solve the errors that arise during the update.

Note.If you are familiar with the update procedure, revision site I am sincerely happy for you and asks to give the opportunity to use the manual to users who need it.

Before starting the update, I would like to make a little clarity for those who are faced with the need to update the i-device for the first time:

Update- the process of downloading and installing the latest version of the operating system with the preservation of all data.
Recovery- updating and resetting all settings to factory settings (the state of a new clean iOS device with the latest up-to-date firmware version).
Recovering from a copy- restoring settings, loading applications, notes and contacts to the state of the last created backup without changing the current firmware version.

Very often, out of inexperience, users using the store Cydia and with all the advantages of jailbreak, they suddenly decide to give up the ability to install applications and tweaks from third-party stores, take the "true path" and upgrade to a "clean" iOS. Easy update via Settings Menu - General - Software Update - Download and Update in a few minutes it can end with an eternal reboot. Take your time, but slowly figure it out!

Device update without jailbreak

Conditions: the device supports the latest up-to-date firmware, a stable Internet is connected, the jailbreak has not been performed.

Follow all the steps in sequence and the renewal process will be “dry and comfortable”.

Point 1. Pay attention to compatibility.

When updating, make sure your iOS device supports the latest firmware version. You can always find out about compatibility on the official website of the company and this is the only reliable source. As for iOS 8, the following are compatible with it:

  • iPhone: 4S and newer;
  • iPad mini: all models; iPad: iPad 2 and newer
  • iPod: iPod Touch 5gen.

If all is well and your device is supported, go to paragraph 2.

Point 2. Updating iTunes. Freeing up space.

Before any update, Apple strongly recommends that you update the iTunes app to the latest version. This can be done both from the application itself ( iTunes - Updates), and by downloading it again from the official site with a further replacement of the old version.

Make sure you have enough free space on your Mac or Windows computer before proceeding with the update. Its size depends on the size of the backup you plan to create. The required minimum is about 8-9 GB(106 applications on my iPhone pulled 6 GB). Make sure there is enough free memory on your iOS device as well. The memory status can be found by going to Settings - General - About this device.

If your iPhone, iPad or iPod has less 400-500 MB, it is highly recommended to uninstall multiple applications or videos by increasing the amount of free space to at least 1.5 GB.

All these operations to free memory will help to avoid problems and unexpected errors during the update.

Item 3. Backup and recharge.

Remember always, always back up your data! Whether you plan on updating your iPhone or not, train yourself to back up periodically. This will save your nerves and a state of deep frustration when an iOS gadget refuses to load beyond the white apple.

Connect the iOS device to your computer, open the icon with its image and choose exactly where to create a copy. If in iCloud cloud storage you have a sufficient amount of remote disk space - feel free to create a copy to it. From time to time I strongly recommend making new offline copies on your computer.

By selecting the item Create a copy now, decide whether you need copies of installed programs or you will start life from scratch. The size of the backup with applications can be much bigger than without it.

Depending on how busy your iOS device is, it depends on how many cups of coffee you have to drink while whiling away the time. To kill two birds with one stone, create a backup both in iCloud and on the computer... It will take a little longer, but with further recovery, you can return the spent minutes of waiting.

Before proceeding with the key stage - updating iOS, make sure that your gadget is charged more than 50% ... This figure is rather symbolic and many experienced users are updated from 20-30%, but no one can predict how actively your device will consume the battery during the update.

Point 4. Update.

This is where the paths of many users diverge. Someone prefers a more stable and reliable update "by lace" (during the first few hours after the release of a new firmware this option is more preferable), someone is updated "over the air".

Each option has the right to life and if all the above points are observed, there will be no problems during recovery.

To update "over the air" open Settings - General - Software update and download the latest up-to-date firmware.

When updating using iTunes, just connect the iOS device and select Refresh.

Point 5. Restoration of purchases and applications.

After a successful update, the iPhone will prompt you to select the system language and connect to the Wi-Fi network. The next item is data recovery.

If you have good internet speed, you can recover data from iCloud copies... If not, choose iTunes copy... The second option is slightly faster. The iOS device will immediately require a connection to iTunes, and the application itself will go into recovery mode.

The most recent backup will be selected by default. Choose an item Restore and wait for the process to finish. Do not unplug the cable until all applications and data have been transferred. After completing the restore from the backup, the device will reboot and require you to log in to your account Apple ID.

Sign in, select your mail and phone number to use iMessage. You will be greeted by the familiar SpringBoard with native wallpaper and icon placement. The iOS device will now download all applications from the digital backup. Wait for the download to finish and the device is completely ready to work.

Updating your jailbroken device

For the opportunity to be different: to install tweaks and download free applications, you will need a small fee - a slightly different update procedure. However, it is not much more complicated.

Attention! If your iOS device was jailbreakable, do not update over the air or through a regular update via iTunes. There is a high probability of getting a permanent reboot or a recovery loop.

Point 1. Preparing the iOS device.

Surely after using an iPhone or iPad with a jailbreak, the device has a lot of several applications downloaded from alternative stores. It is highly recommended to delete them.

For further operations, repeat all the operations listed in paragraphs 1 - 4... When creating a backup, be prepared for possible errors. All that remains for you is to kindly agree that iTunes cannot transfer the purchase, or purchase the paid version of the application (don't be cunning, because the jailbreak helped save a few tens of rubles :)

Item 2. We restore and update the device

So, the backup has been created and it's time to "return everything as it was". We reset smartphone settings to factory defaults... Selecting an item Restore iPhone... iTunes will ask you to disable the feature Find iPhone... You can do this on an iOS device by opening Settings - iCloud - Find iPhone and turn off use.

Apple will once again warn about the possible loss of non-migrated applications and will offer to download the latest version of the operating system. We agree and go for another cup of coffee.

After a successful update, Recovery purchases and downloading applications from a backup copy is carried out in the same way as in the case of using a "clean" device without jailbreak.

If something went wrong

In the digital world, as in life, not everything goes smoothly and the way we want it. If, during the update, your iPhone no longer delights with the familiar screen SpringBoard, and displays a lonely white apple on a black background, things are not very good. What to do in this case:

Option 1... Hold the key Power and Home... Keep holding for 10 Seconds... The device will reboot and you will have a chance of a successful boot.

Option 2. If option 1 did not help, I have to upset you - you fell into the so-called recovery loop... You can get out of it, but this will require sacrifices - a complete loss of data and an update to the latest firmware version (however, if you obediently followed Point 3- don't worry).

Removing a device from a recovery loop:

    1. Connect your iOS device to your computer with iTunes running.
    2. In iTunes, select Restore.
    3. Wait for the restoration to complete. When the iTunes icon appears, you will need to transfer the iPhone to DFU mode... The transition to DFU is as follows:

Almost everyone dreams of becoming the owner of an iPhone, although there are also those who refuse to purchase such a gadget due to the frequent occurrence of situations requiring the direct intervention of the owner, who cannot independently figure out the sequence of all actions. One of these operations is the system request to update iOS.

In every update, the company tries to take into account all complaints and suggestions from customers.

Before proceeding with the update, it is important to carry out a series of preparatory steps that will ensure a high-quality installation of the updated system files.

Benefits of the upgrade

Of course, you can ignore the system requirement indicating the need for an update and continue using the phone as before, but experts still recommend updating the firmware. This is really important, because in each update, the developers add new useful features, fix all previous bugs and even, in a sense, "extend the life" of the iPhone.

Updating the firmware improves battery performance, which certainly cannot go unnoticed as battery life increases.

In addition, by updating the firmware, the iPhone becomes even more protected from threats that arise after connecting to the Internet, as well as from viruses that often become unwanted "residents" in iPhone. Even losing data becomes almost impossible, unless you yourself have a hand in it.

If they succeed in updating iOS, then users instantly notice that the iPhone starts to work faster, responds more smoothly to all requested commands.

There are many reasons why you should update iOS, it makes no sense to list them all. It is best to orient yourself towards carrying out such actions and to make sure that they are practically appropriate.

Preparatory work

To successfully update your iPhone's firmware even the first time, additional steps must be taken.

First of all, you should make sure that the battery charge is sufficient for the entire procedure. Experts recommend not starting the update processes if the battery has a battery percentage below 70%. In this case, it is better to postpone the update procedure for a short period of time, thereby allowing the battery to fully charge.

It is important to take into account that during the update, additional system files are loaded into the iPhone, filling the free space. If there is very little such space, it will not be possible to successfully update iOS, therefore experts recommend that you determine the percentage of free space in advance, and delete unnecessary files if necessary.

To determine the percentage of occupied space on the iPhone, go to "Settings", go to the "General" tab, then "Usage", the percentage of free space will be displayed there, as well as a list of installed programs. If necessary, you can immediately uninstall programs that you do not have to use so often.

Update process

There are two ways that you can update your iPhone's firmware. The first method assumes the presence of Wi-Fi, the second - iTunes. Both methods can be carried out even by beginners, but only with strict adherence to all the instructions of the instructions.

Updating via Wi-Fi

This method is most often used by those who are not used to postponing any actions, do not strive to create a backup, want to quickly update the firmware and enjoy the best iPhone work.

To update iOS, it is important to connect your phone to Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G is also allowed.

After connecting, you should go to "Settings", go to the "General" tab, and then - "Software update". Fortunately, the developers took care of simplifying the iOS update procedure in advance, since the iPhone automatically starts searching for the updated firmware. If there is none at the moment, the iPhone will warn you about this, the update process will end. If the iPhone detects a fresh firmware, it will automatically offer to install it. It will be enough to agree by clicking on the "Download and Install" button, and the process of downloading the iOS update will start. Upon completion of the download, the iPhone will again contact the user with a proposal to install the update immediately or proceed to this step a little later.

If you agree with the immediate installation of updates for iOS, the process will take a few minutes, after which the iPhone will automatically reboot, and after turning it on, it will delight you with the updated operating system.

Updating via iTunes

This method is more suitable for those who do not accept risk in any form. Following the instructions, the user can create a backup copy that allows you to return the old firmware back if the new one does not suit you for some reason.

If iTunes is not yet installed on your computer, you must first download it using the official Apple resource. After successful installation of the software, the iPhone is connected to the PC using a USB cable.

iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2, new iPad (iPad 3).

1. Recharge iPad. The installation process can take a long time, it will be a shame to lose it in vain due to a suddenly disconnected tablet.

2. Update iTunes to the latest official version. By the way, this step is mandatory; without it, the update may fail.

3. Before the process of updating the operating system, Apple strongly recommends that you back up all the files on your device. Most often, users do not encounter any problems, however, in order to avoid the loss of personal data, it is necessary to backup files. Fortunately, this process doesn't take much of your time.

The easiest way to back up your data is with iTunes. All you need to do is connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer and wait until the process of automatic synchronization and copying of files is completed. If synchronization does not start automatically, right-click on the name of your device and select "Back up".

Over the air update

For the update, you do not need to connect the device to your computer, just follow these steps step by step

1. Open the app Settings.

2. Go to the tab General.

3. Touch the item Software Update.

4. If a firmware update is not available for your device, you will be prompted to do so. Otherwise, detailed information about the update will appear on the screen.

5. Click the button Download and Install.

6. Next, a license agreement will open in front of you. iOS. Read and agree. The firmware download will start. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the stability of your network, this step may take a long time. When the firmware file is fully downloaded, you will need to reboot your device to install the update. With the help of the "Later" button you can postpone this process for a while.

Ready! After rebooting, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be running the new iOS operating system.

Nikolay Kostin is in touch, and in this article we will analyze step by step how to update iOS on ipad. iOS is the operating system of Apple devices, it is found on both iPhones and iPads. Updates are released periodically and you are invited to install them. Read on to find out how this is done.

In all fairness, updating or not updating iOS is a question that leaves many questioning whether or not it is worth doing at all. Personally, the decision to update iOS was not immediately given to me. Someone may call me conservative, but I was worried about the fact that after the update, some applications may work crookedly for me or even stop launching altogether. The extreme point was that when viewing new applications in the Appstore, every second had iOS requirements from version 6.0 and higher, and I was sitting with my version 5.1.1 and could not install anything. After that, I realized that it was time to update the system.

In general, I will immediately say that after the update I was satisfied, the ipad began to work much faster, but of course there are jambs, the main one, in my opinion, is the terrible work of Appstore - it began to load for a mega-long time, it was displayed crookedly, the application was not install, but it was only in the first few days after the iOS update, and then everything began to work more or less for me, and it was easy to work in the Appstore.

Now let's take a step-by-step look at how to update iOS on ipad:

1. Approximately this is how the screen of your ipad looks now:

2. Click the Settings icon, see the following on the screen, go to the Software Update tab (circled in red in the screenshot):

3. Press the button Download and install in the center of the screen. IMPORTANT! IOS update requires at least 3.5 gigabytes of free disk space and also a good internet connection so that update files can download quickly

4. We receive a message that it is better to put the ipad on charge, put it on, click OK.

5. The download process begins, now we are patiently waiting ...

6. We also look forward to checking for updates

7. At the end of checking for updates, your ipad will reboot and the following will appear on the screen:

Move the arrow to unlock the screen

8. We see a message that the update was completed successfully and there are several steps left to complete the installation, press the button Continue

9. We see the offer to configure the geolocation service, select the checkbox to enable or disable it, click the blue Next button - at the top of the screen.

11. Hurray! We receive a message that the ipad is configured and ready to work. Push the button Start using iPad... Congratulations, you can now continue using your iPad as before.

Thank you very much for your attention! I hope this article on how to update iOS on ipad was helpful to you. If you have any questions or wishes, write them in the comments below, we will sort it out together.

An iOS update is required when the user gradually delves into the peculiarities of operation and realizes that he will not be able to see new games and programs without fresh iOS firmware. If the iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3g firmware is old, then applications may refuse to install due to iOS incompatibility. And there are no old versions of games or programs in the App Store - old versions are deleted after new ones appear.

There are several ways to update your iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3G. This is a wireless update method over the air (over Wi-Fi) and a computer method. Surely you are asking why you need to update your iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3g via a computer, if you can do it via Wi-Fi. The fact is that the owners of older versions of the iPhone (3g and below) and iPad (0, 2) do not have this function. Therefore, they can only update iOS through a computer with iTunes installed. Before starting the process, you need to find out your version of iOS and make a choice - by air or through a computer. In this review, we'll cover both methods. The difference is that most users will be able to update via Wi-Fi, but updating via a computer may puzzle some iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3g users. So, we'll take a look at how to update iOS 6 and how to install new firmware over Wi-Fi.

Instructions

So, you need to update the 6 version (or lower) of the operating system. We hope you have high-speed internet in your computer. Prepare a USB cable, ready-made version of the latest iTunes. We connect your iPad 0,3 or iPhone 4, 3g to the PC. One warning: such an update can only be made by those who have an unlocked iPhone 3g, 4, 5 s / s in their hands. Otherwise, the update will make your phone a regular player. Updating iPod or iPad 0.3 will not bring any problems to these devices. Therefore, you can safely proceed:

  1. We connected our iPhone 4, 3g or iPad 0.3 to a PC and turned on iTunes. If your files on your device are dear to you, be sure to back them up to iTunes and iCloud. If you do not need music, photos, applications and contacts, then you can safely update. In addition, there is a possibility that after the update is completed, these files may remain intact.
  2. After entering iTunes, we need to select our gadget (iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3G). In the overview tab, click the "Update" button. You may need to enable the additional panel on the left if you do not see the keyboard shortcuts. Before we update, we read the data, which says that iOS 6 will turn into iOS 7.
  3. iTunes should display a message where we need to click on the "Continue" button. The notification will inform you that purchased content has been found on your iPad 0.3 or iPhone 4, 3g that has not been transferred to your library. Please transfer these items to your library before updating your gadget.
  4. The next message, where we clicked on "Update", will inform you that the ios 7 update will remove all programs and media files, including purchases from the App Store / iTunes. To save all this data, you need to synchronize the gadget with the PC on which the iOS 6 or 7 is being installed.
  5. Without synchronization, SMS messages, calendars, contacts and other system settings will be saved. Above all, do not interrupt the update - it may take an hour or more, so be prepared.
  6. A window will appear with the installation of new software, here you can find out what innovations the 6 or 7 version of the OS will bring. If you are upgrading, for example, from 4 to 6 iOS, then the list of innovations will be huge. Click on "next", get acquainted with the license agreement, and then accept it and go for a walk / read / sleep. ITunes will automatically download the new system from the Apple server, at the top of the screen you can see the download bar and the approximate time remaining. The scale will take a long time to crawl, so you will have to wait a long time.

What can cause dissonance is an error that will inform you that there was a problem loading the software due to the timeout for connections. Don't be alarmed. First, let's check if the Internet is working, if there is a terrible yellow triangle on the connection icon. If the Internet is functioning, then most likely the error is connected either with exceeding the download limit from the Apple server, or the connection is not stable. And in the first and second cases, you need to wait. Then go through from 1 to 6 points again.

After an hour, you can return to the PC. If everything went well, then in the "Overview" tab of the iTunes service you will see the new iOS 6 or 7 and the inscription telling about the new software. Now you know how to update iOS on iPhone.

How to install a new system over Wi-Fi
