Let's take a step-by-step procedure for setting up digital television on modern TV models with built-in DVB-C, DVB-T2 (T1) tuners. We do not consider connecting and setting up digital television using receivers (NTV +, Tricolor) in this article.

1) First of all, you should make sure that your TV allows you to watch digital channels. To do this, you need to open the technical characteristics of your model and find the DVB-C, DVB-T1 (DVB-T2) parameters: (find your model by the manufacturer's name or by writing it in the search bar in the upper right corner of the site).

If your TV has built-in digital signal tuners (DVB-C, DVB-T1 (DVB-T2)), then, provided there are digital TV companies, you can tune in digital TV.

2) The second step is to decide the type of antenna that will receive the signal. The most common option at present is cable television, connected to the TV with a coaxial cable, with a monthly fee. Another option is to take a horn-type antenna (previously supplied with TVs), or another type of antenna that receives an analog broadcast signal. NO special antennas for receiving digital television(we are not talking about Tricolor satellite dishes, etc.), so if they are trying to sell you something of a futuristic look under the heading “for receiving digital television broadcasts” - do not waste your money. The frequency range of digital television broadcasting is quietly covered by a conventional antenna installed on any multi-storey building from the times of the USSR. A detailed description of why you should not buy special antennas: http://rem-tv.net/publ/8-1-0-102

3) Assume that the antenna is selected. Now there are two ways to set up digital TV: fast and long.

a) A quick method is to search for the website of a TV company broadcasting TV in your area (Yandex will help you here). As a rule, if a TV company broadcasts digital channels, then the site contains information about this and settings to be entered into your TV for fast and accurate searching. You must first turn on the “Cable TV” reception mode and set the parameters, for example, like this: 3 package (frequency 634000 MHz, speed 6750 Ksymbol / s and modulation 256 QAM. If the TV company broadcasting digital channels has taken the frequency, but broadcasting is temporarily not conducted , then the TV will display black screens instead of an image (this is a question for the TV company).

b) A long method, but sometimes giving unexpectedly pleasant results, is the search for digital channels in the entire range available to the TV (shown in the photo below).

How to connect a DVB-T2 set-top box to a TV? Connecting and setting up digital television is not a very difficult task; any more or less technically competent man can handle it.

Standard set-top box

  • user's manual;
  • RCA cable ("tulip") with characteristic connectors, allows you to connect set-top boxes to almost all modern TV models;
  • a device for decoding and converting a digital signal into an analog one (receiver);
  • remote control (PU);
  • batteries for PU;
  • network adapter.

For different brands and different models of devices, the basic package may have different variations (for example, instead of a “tulip” there may be an HDMI cable), but in general, the kit consists of just such elements.

The rear panel has connectors:

  • antenna input;
  • connector for connecting a satellite dish, UHF antenna or local operator cable;
  • socket for hdmi-cable, designed to connect a monitor or TV;
  • sockets for cable "tulip".

Some devices may optionally be equipped with a "Scart" socket, which can be used to connect a TV or DVD player with a video recording function.

The process of connecting a DVB-T2 set-top box to a TV is in many ways similar to the procedure for connecting a satellite receiver or an AV receiver. There are several different ways how to connect a t-2 set-top box, how to connect a monitor to a set-top box. Each of them depends on the type of connector that is on the two paired devices. You can connect the tuner via an RCA cable (which is usually called simply "tulip"), via an HDMI connector, via an antenna cable.

RCA cable

This is the easiest and most standard way to connect a digital tuner to a TV. The picture quality in this case is very different from connecting via HDMI, but the differences are not so significant on large TVs.

Before connecting, both devices must be disconnected from the electricity. After that, you need to insert the cable plugs into the sockets on the console. Each plug has its own color, so you need to insert them into the connectors of the corresponding color. The yellow cable carries a video signal, the white and red cables carry 2 channels of audio. After that, an external or indoor antenna is connected to the appropriate socket (on the prefix it is designated as “RF IN”).

It happens that the set of wires does not include a "tulip", but there is a "SCART" connector, which is called "comb" in the common people. In this case, you will need a special adapter from RCA to Scart. In the same way, you can connect a satellite receiver.

HDMI connector

The HDMI interface is capable of transmitting a high quality signal. For example, video quality can be up to 1080p, and audio can be up to 192kHz. This meets the highest standards in the field of multimedia content.

If you have a modern TV and it has an HDMI connector, then it would be advisable to connect the receiver through this interface. The same can be recommended for a satellite tuner to watch TV in high definition.

Channel setup

The number of channels depends on whether you will use the paid package of services of a single operator, or whether you will be satisfied with regular on-air broadcasting. There are about 20 free TV channels available for regular TV. If this is not enough for you, then in order to view encrypted broadcasts, you will need to purchase a CAM module that is built into the receiver. A provider card is inserted into the CAM module, which, for a fee, provides access to a large list of digital TV channels.

Setup: turn on the TV (if the set-top box is already connected), switch the TV to the “AV” mode, go to the tuner menu.

By default, the set-top box does not have a list of digital TV channels, so you will have to look for them yourself. To do this, it is recommended to use "Auto search", which will independently find 10-20 channels. If the tuner can find them, it will offer to save the list. The whole setup algorithm is similar for different device models, but each has its own nuances.

Connecting a set-top box to a TV

Before connecting a digital set-top box to a TV, you need to decide on the choice of the receiving device - the antenna.

Antennas come in different types and types. When choosing the right one, they are usually guided by several criteria, the main of which is the distance to the transmitting TB tower. The antenna can be either indoor or outdoor. For the DVB-T2 standard, the antenna must be in the decimeter range (UHF), namely, to receive frequencies from 470 to 860 MHz. An indoor antenna will only work well in a city that has a transmitting tower.

It happens that DVB-T2 does not find channels. This may happen for the following reasons:

  • the antenna does not receive a digital terrestrial television signal (does not receive the UHF range);
  • equipment software is not up to date;
  • equipment does not support DVB-T standard

Most often, the lack of a signal is faced by those people who are trying to connect through a local antenna. Here you can’t guess in advance whether such an antenna receives a signal in the UHF range or not. To do this, you need to call the company that services the antenna, and clarify. But it's best to have your own antenna.

Connecting the set-top box to older TV models

The connection method via an antenna cable is used in cases where there are no other connectors on the TV other than the antenna input (in older TV models). In this way, you can connect the tuner to an old TV by plugging the cable into a socket called "RF OUT". In this case, the image quality will be much worse than when connected via HDMI. But given the fact that the TV is old, such an image can be considered quite acceptable.

To cable connect digital TV to an old TV, you will need a piece of antenna wire of the appropriate length, as well as two antenna plugs. In order not to resort to the help of a soldering iron, you can use special F-connectors. To do this, you need to clean the insulation from the antenna cable (very carefully so as not to damage the shielding braid). It is necessary to strip the end about 1.5 cm long. After that, bend the braid, remove the insulating material from the central core. Strip 10 mm from the center wire. Screw the connectors clockwise until the center wire protrudes 2 mm from the connector. Using the received cable, connect the antenna input of the TV to the corresponding output of the set-top box.

Digital television is not so long ago, but has already firmly entered our lives. However, not all of us managed to get TVs with built-in digital receivers. There are two ways to solve this problem - buy a new and modern TV or install a small DVB-T2 receiver in your home.

The second option is the most profitable and acceptable, because the receivers cost an order of magnitude less than the new "TV box". However, even here some difficulties may arise if you do not know what to focus on during the purchase.

DVB-T2 receivers

Today, TV towers and analog and digital signals broadcast in the same range. Therefore, to receive high-definition video channels, there is no need to install a new antenna - ordinary decimeter "horns" are suitable, which each of us probably has.

It must also be remembered that not all TVs are capable of "reproducing" a digital signal. Of course, by connecting a DVB-T2 receiver to an old "TV box", you can watch your favorite channels, but you will not notice any difference in image quality.

Modern digital receivers are small devices that look very similar to DVD players. Most models have a simple liquid crystal display on the front panel, control buttons.

On the back wall of such a device there are connectors for connecting to an antenna and to a TV, additional slots for flash cards, adapters and other devices, as well as a power switch. When choosing a DVB-T2 receiver, it is necessary to focus on the rear panel.

Receiver Specifications

The first important characteristic of a digital receiver is the supported video resolution. This setting must match the resolution of your TV. So, if the screen only supports SDTV, then there is simply no need to buy a set-top box that supports HD video - the TV will still broadcast as before. The same applies to the built-in 3D function.

The presence of the necessary connectors for connecting the set-top box to the TV is the second most important parameter. The vast majority of equipment uses an RCA cable, or "tulips", for connection. Some terrestrial DVB-T2 receivers use SCART cables along with RCA ports.

In addition, you can use one of the built-in interfaces to connect to a TV. As a rule, an HDMI port very often acts as such. The presence of all the listed connectors will allow you to connect two TVs to one receiver at the same time.

Built-in interfaces

On the market, you can often find equipment with a built-in USB interface, thanks to which you can connect a flash drive, phone, and in some cases even a laptop to the receiver. However, such a DVB-T2 receiver is somewhat more expensive than a conventional installation. Most often, the described features are used to record a TV show on a flash drive or to play audio and video files stored on a flash drive.

The built-in CI slot for connecting a conditional access card, which allows you to watch paid channels, has a significant impact on the price. Today, almost all channels broadcast in Russia are free-to-air, but in the future such an opportunity may turn out to be very useful.

Additional functions

The receiver may have a large number of built-in functions that the owners are not even aware of. The most popular is the ability to "stop time" - TimeShift. But this possibility is just a trick that makes the DVB-T2 digital TV receiver more expensive.

The fact is that such a function is available only for In “antenna” devices, when “time stops”, a screenshot is taken and the sound is turned off, but the transmission itself continues to go on.

Another popular feature, the TV guide, which allows you to view the program guide, works somewhat better. Its functionality depends on the specific channel. Setting a timer to automatically turn a channel on or off are the only additional features that work flawlessly.

Connecting a set-top box to a TV

You can connect in two ways. If your antenna has a ready-made coaxial cable, then simply insert it into the DVB-T2 digital TV receiver, and then proceed with channel tuning. In some cases, you have to buy the coaxial cable yourself, especially if your antenna has a built-in amplifier.

In this case, you will also need a screw-on f-type connector. To install it on the cable, it is necessary to cut off the insulation layer, distribute the metal foil and mesh along the contour and get to the copper core. After that, you can screw the connector into the receiver.

There are many more ways to connect a TV to a set-top box. You can use "tulips", RCA, SCART or HDMI cables. Difficulties will not arise here. After combining the devices, it remains only to configure the DVB-T2 digital receiver in the same way as the channel search is configured on a TV.

Budget models

The cost of budget models is in the range of 1-2 thousand rubles. Their functionality is sufficient for comfortable viewing of TV programs.

Our list opens with the VVK SMP240HDT2 receiver costing up to 1.5 thousand rubles. There is a built-in USB interface, which makes it possible to record TV programs and view media files. The HDMI connector can be used to connect an HD TV. Among the minuses, it should be noted the poor response to the remote control and the coincidence of commands with the signals of the TV remote control.

The prefix D-COLOR DC1302 has all the same built-in functions as the previous representative. But this DVB-T2 digital receiver is more user-friendly - it responds better to remote control commands. Buyers also noted a stylish metal case with plastic inserts. Among the minuses - belated switching of channels.

The receiver is less functional than the previous representatives - there is no HDMI. Users especially liked the simple channel setup - it can be done with just a couple of clicks. But the menu is not very convenient and understandable - you have to deal with it.

Special representatives

These prefixes presented below can be called special for some additional features that are not available in the models already described. In addition, the cost of these devices also does not exceed 2 thousand rubles.

SUPRA SDT-94 is a digital DVB-T2 receiver with HD resolution support and USB interface for viewing data from flash cards. Separately, users noted good signal reception, regardless of the type of antenna connected, as well as a simple channel search. A special feature is the parental control function, which blocks certain channels until the password is entered. The main disadvantage is the decrease in image quality when connected via a composite output.

A more original model is the Rolsen RDB-532. The receiver has a compact size and low power consumption, which allows it to be used as a portable or for this, you only need to buy a power cord. It does not have an HDMI connector, but the ability to view multimedia has been preserved. television DVB-T2 has no complaints from users. Its functionality is fully consistent with the price.

SMART receivers

This group of devices is the most expensive. However, they are more functional and able to access the Internet, and also have a number of other features.

The Dune HD Solo 4K receiver, in addition to watching TV channels directly from the Internet in 4K format, playing multimedia, recording video, accessing the global network, a convenient menu and the functions already described in other models, can be used as a wireless access point to the Wi- fi. At the same time, providing high speed to several users at the same time. Of the minuses, the high price should be noted - about 24 thousand rubles.

IconBIT XDS94K is a much less functional DVB-T2 digital terrestrial receiver. But it also costs 4 times less than the previous representative. In addition to browsing Internet resources, playing multimedia, the device can be used to make video calls, you only need to buy a webcam. Additionally, a mouse and keyboard can be connected to the receiver. Among the minuses is a rather long loading of channels.

The modern world can no longer be imagined without digital TV. Such signal transmission has been used for a long time for broadcasting television and radio channels in many countries of Europe, America and Asia. In Russia, the process of transition from analog TV to digital was delayed.

The digital signal coming through the receiver's antenna allows you to watch more TV channels throughout the country without loss of quality and interference. In this case, the signal itself can be fed both to the antenna, which is attached to the set-top box, and directly to the TV. It all depends on how modern the model of this device you have.

With devices that support DVB-T2, everything is simple. In order to connect to digital TV, just insert the cable into the appropriate connector and perform a simple one. If your TV is outdated and does not support this type of signal, then in order to view it you should purchase a special set-top box. It is inexpensive, but some people may have problems connecting and configuring it, so today we will talk about how to do it.

What is needed for this

To connect digital TV you will need:

  • Television;
  • Prefix (receiver);
  • Antenna.

At the same time, your TV must have an input into which you can insert an antenna, a tulip connector, as well as an input with a video output (scart). If you have an hdmi input instead of the scart connector, then you should not worry. It is also suitable for connecting a receiver. It's just that your model is newer.

Before buying a receiver, you should figure out which one is better and find out what parameters you should pay attention to in order to choose the most optimal model. If you don’t understand much about technology, and don’t want to spend your free time studying all these nuances, then you can contact a company that provides television broadcasting services in your city and get advice from their specialists. In addition, you can take advantage of promotional offers from the service provider. Often, if you connect to their services, you can get a receiver as a gift.

The receiver, in fact, is an adapter that allows you to receive and transmit a signal to your device. It can be obtained from the following sources:

  • satellite dish;
  • Antenna
  • Through the Internet;
  • Through other sources.

Connecting a digital set-top box

In order to connect the receiver directly, you should follow the steps below:

  1. Take the TV box out of the box and remove the protective film from it. Film must be removed. Otherwise, the receiver may overheat and break.
  2. Take a TV cable and cut off the protective sheath, thus exposing 1-15 millimeters of the cable on both sides. The sheath should be stripped very carefully so as not to damage the shielding film, which is designed to protect the center conductor.
  3. Carefully peel back the shiny protective film and screw the f-connectors to the wires.
  4. Connect the TV to the set-top box with a cable.
  5. Insert the wires into the cinch sockets on the TV and set-top box.
  6. . In this case, the antenna itself should be installed on the outer wall of the house or on your balcony, if it is not glazed. At the same time, make sure that it is not touched by tree branches or power wires.

This completes the process of connecting the TV set-top box. Next, to watch TV channels available in your region, you should set it up.

In our country, many people still use TVs that were produced back in the Soviet years or in the early 90s. Connecting a receiver to such devices is not so easy - they do not have tulip-type connectors. Also, some models have scart outputs, but they only accept component signals.

You can solve these problems in two ways:

  • Find a schematic for an A/V input to scart adapter and solder it yourself;
  • Buy a special adapter in the store, to which you can connect the RCA cable from the set-top box or an adapter cable.

There are even older models of TVs of the Electron type, in which there are no inputs at all, except for the antenna connector. The TV receives a modulated high frequency signal through this connector, so in order to watch digital TV on this type of device, you will need to purchase an additional modulator that will be equipped with RCA connectors.

Receiver setup

In order to tune digital channels on the TV, after connecting the set-top box to it, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control.
  2. In the window that opens, go to the settings menu.
  3. You need to select Russia as the country if it is not the default.
  4. Now you need to choose a signal standard. By default, DTV-T/DTV-T2 is set, that is, analog and digital TV, respectively. If you leave it like this, the TV will search for both those and these channels.
  5. You will be prompted to perform automatic or manual configuration. Select Automatic and press the OK button on the remote control.
  6. Now you need to wait a while until all available free and paid TV channels are detected. When the search is complete, click Save.

This is one of the easiest ways to set up digital TV in your home. If the TV found few channels or did not find them at all, then you should use the manual setting.

To do this, you need to delete all the channels that were found for this. After the channels are deleted, you should repeat the same steps as for automatic search, but instead of auto tuning, select manual search. A window will appear in front of you in which you should set the frequency on which digital channels are broadcast in your city. You can find out this frequency on the Internet or by contacting your service provider. It may also be necessary to change the search range in order for the search to start.

After the TV channels of the first multiplex are found, you will need to find out the frequency for the second multiplex in your city and start the manual search again. Thanks to this, you will be able to watch more channels.

Signal Quality Check

To make sure that you did everything correctly and everything works well, you should check the quality of signal reception. It's easy to do. The receiver should have a button called INFO. By clicking on it three times, a window will appear on the screen with information about the signal quality, channel number, frequency and encoding. If the two existing indicators are above 60%, then everything is fine and the signal level is quite acceptable.

Perhaps, in your model of TV set-top box, this button will be called something else. To find out what this button is called for you, look at the instructions and read the function of the buttons.

If your TV catches several multiplexes, be sure to check the signal quality on each of them. This is due to the fact that each of them is transmitted and received using different transmitters, so it is quite possible that the signal will be good in one multiplex, and not in the second.
