This note is intended for novice computer users and in it I will talk about how you can change the input language in Windows.

The current input language is displayed in the language bar, which is located in the notification area (near the clock in the lower right corner of the screen, as in the picture on the left). But what does "current input language" mean? This means that if you start typing now, then the typing will use the characters of exactly the alphabet that is indicated in the language bar.

Usually, most computers have two languages installed - English (En) and Russian (Ru). However, it is always possible to connect any other language if the need arises.

In order to see what languages are installed in Windows, just click on the language bar (see the picture above). A drop-down menu will appear listing all available languages. You can select any of the available languages from the list and it will become the current one (a black bird will appear to the left of it, as in the picture). But in order to switch input language(they also say keyboard layout language), you can use a keyboard shortcut - this is a faster and more convenient way.

The keyboard shortcut for switching the input language is usually configured when the operating system is installed Windows, but it can always be changed. Let's get down to it.

We need to get into the settings window. Let's call the context menu on the language bar icon in notification area(right-click on the icon) and select the "Parameters" item from the context menu.

The Languages and Text Input Services window opens with three tabs. On the General tab, we can select the default input language. This means that this particular language will be automatically activated when opening programs or when loading the operating system. Windows.

For example, if Russian is selected and you are typing in the program Notebook, then you do not need to additionally switch the language after starting the program. You can immediately start typing.

If English is selected there, then you will need to switch the keyboard layout. To do this, you can use the icon in notification area, or a keyboard shortcut. Keyboard shortcuts are configured on the Keyboard Toggle tab.

On this tab, we will only be interested in the "Keyboard shortcuts for input languages" section. In this section, you see the action - "Switch input language", which corresponds to the keyboard shortcut Left ALT + SHIFT.

This means that if you press the key Alt(which is on the left side of the key Space) and, without releasing it, press the key Shift(which is in the leftmost row), then you switch the input language.

Pressing this combination again will switch the input language again. That is, when you press the key combination, the input languages will switch in order. The current input language will be displayed in notification area(as in the picture at the beginning of the note).

If you are not comfortable with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Shift then you can change it. To do this, you need to click on the "Change keyboard shortcut" button. In the window that appears, you can change the keyboard shortcut to Ctrl + Shift.

Do not forget to press the button in each window after making all the settings. OK... Otherwise, your changes will not be applied and you will have to call the settings window again and change the parameters.

Well, in conclusion of this article, I would like to recommend all beginners to take my free video course "Computer Alphabet". It consists of 130 videos with a text version of the lessons and this course outlines all the basic concepts of the Windows 7 operating system.

I am convinced that the information in this course will be enough to make the beginner feel much more confident when using a computer.

Don't miss the opportunity to do a good deed:

In this tutorial, we'll talk about how to set up the language on your computer.

Let's open the panel that is responsible for this. Open the "Start" menu -> "Control Panel".

In the "Small icons" view mode, double-click the left mouse button on the "Regional and Language Standards" icon.

The first tab that opens before us is "Formats". Here you can customize the display format of the Date, time, specify the first day of the week. At the top of the window, we specify how it will be displayed, and at the bottom are display samples.

The second tab is "Location". We just leave Russia unchanged.

Let's jump over a bit and take a look at the Advanced tab. There is a division into 2 settings here. One of them is responsible for setting up all kinds of greetings on the computer. Here we click on the "Copy parameters" button and go to the settings.

A new window opens, showing the options for the current user, the welcome screen that loads at the very beginning, and options for new accounts. There are no special settings here. This tab simply displays general information, which is mainly configured in the Languages and Keyboards tab. Additionally, you can put two checkboxes below, so that the settings that we will do next are copied to accounts and to the welcome screen.

The second setting in the "Advanced" tab is the system language setting. By clicking on the "Change system language ..." button, you can change the Windows language. Be careful that the interface language changes on the "Language and Keyboards" tab. After changing this setting, you must restart Windows to apply the setting to the entire operating system.

If the required language is not in the list, then it can be installed through "Windows Update". Below we will look at how to do this.

Now let's go to the Language & Keyboards tab. Here, firstly, you can change the interface language by selecting the ones you need from the drop-down list.

If you do not need it, then click on the "Install or remove language ..." button. A window pops up in which we select the item with the installation, and then "Start Windows Update". In the update center, you must click on "Search for updates".

This update is classified as Optional. They are labeled as "Windows Language Pack" in Update Center. Just select the package you want from the list and click "Ok".

Look carefully so that only the selected package is installed, and not all updates, as this can lead to blocking Windows if it is not licensed. After that we press the button "Install updates".

After installation, we return to the settings window and change the interface or system language to the installed one.

A new window opens. There are 3 tabs here. The first "general" is responsible for the default input language. When windows boots or you enter a program, the keyboard layout will always be installed on it.

Also, here you can add languages between which you will have to switch. To do this, click on the "Add" button and select the one you need from the list that you want to add.

The second tab is "Language Bar". This is the panel that we have displayed in the tray, in the lower right corner. Here you can customize its display. There is nothing complicated here, so you can experiment.

Well, the last thing we have is the keyboard switching setting. Here we are most interested in the item "Switch input language". We select this item and press the button "Change keyboard shortcut ...".

A new window will open. It is here in the left column that we configure the keyboard shortcut to change the keyboard input. Just set a convenient combination and click the "OK" button. The item "Not assigned" can be set when you change the input through a third-party program, for example, punto switcher, which I already talked about in one of my lessons.

This concludes with the setting. If you still have questions, then the video tutorial below may be useful to you.
