How to change home page in internet explorer. How to make the start page look like a search engine in Internet Explorer

The home page is also called the start page, because it is a tab that opens immediately with the launch of the browser, if you have not previously set the preservation of open tabs - in this case, those pages that were in the browser before it was closed are launched.

This is also the home page that you navigate to when you click on the Home button. Users are often not satisfied with the start tab, so the question is how to change the home page in Internet Explorer. Fortunately, it is changing. This is quite easy to do. Now we'll tell you how.

Why is the start page changing?

We all download and install certain programs on our PC. Some of them can change browser settings, in particular, change the start page. This does not mean that the program must necessarily be infected with a virus, but nevertheless, changes have been made. The user may strongly disagree with them, especially if he was not informed about it.

Home tabs can also change due to viruses. If you have not installed any programs, run an antivirus scan of the system. It is likely that you will have at least one. After removing the virus, you can safely change the changed start tab (usually some kind of advertisement) to your old one.

As a rule, Yandex or any other search engine makes the starting site. This is convenient - you can immediately drive in a request without unnecessary clicks.

There are two versions of IE in Windows 8. One of them has a classic look, and the second opens from the start screen. The start page changes in two browsers at once. A kind of synchronization.

Method number 1

We make changes through the settings of the browser itself.

Launch IE. Click on the gear icon. Next, there is a choice in favor of the penultimate item "Internet Options".

Go to the "General" block. In the first section, change the default link to the address of the future start tab. We recommend that you copy it in advance. For example, enter the address of a Yandex or Google search engine.

Click on "Apply" and then on OK.

Restart your browser. The page will be changed immediately.

The next time you open a new browsing session or new window (or hit the home button), the home tabs will load automatically.

There can be several starting sites. In this case, you need to place them each time on a new line in the same field.

If you have a tab open now with a site that you want to make your home page, click on the "Current" button.

To restore the initial tab, which was the default, click on the "Initial" button.

If, after all the procedures, the browser somehow starts to work incorrectly, restore it to the default settings. To do this, go to the "Internet Options" window and click on the "Reset" button. Next, put a checkmark next to "Delete personal settings" and click on the "Reset" button again. The ability to rollback to the original version of the browser saves in case of any incorrectly changed settings.

Method number 2

You can also customize your Internet Explorer home page using another method.

  • We go to the Control Panel through Start.
  • We need the section "Configuring Computer Settings". Click on the "Internet Options" object. Since IE is a standard browser, it is its settings that can be changed.
  • Go to the "General" block and enter the url of the page, as in the previous method. The change will also take effect after restarting the browser.

Setting up a start tab in IE doesn't take much of your time. You can immediately open it in a browser and then just click on the "Current" button so as not to manually write or copy the address from the navigation bar.

The start tab allows you to go directly to the desired site when you launch your browser. There is also the option of installing multiple sites. If you click on the Home button, then several of them will open at once.

Most people have certain websites that they check every time they open Internet Explorer. This could be a corporate site, a search engine (like Google), your Facebook page, or even your personal website. You can change your home page in Internet Explorer as you see fit. To change or make the start page for Internet Explorer, do the following:

Step 1

Click the "Service" button in the upper right corner (depicted as a gear). If you have an older version of IE, the Tools menu can be opened from the toolbar at the top.

Step 2

From the Tools menu, open Internet Options.

Step 3

In the "Home page" field, change the current address to the page you need using one of the following methods:

  1. Manual URL entry. If you know the homepage address, you can simply enter it in the appropriate field.
  2. Use the current address. Click on the "Current" button to use the page that is currently open in your Internet Explorer.
  3. Use default value. Click the Home button to return to the page that was installed with your browser.
  4. Assign an empty tab. Click on the "Use New Tab" button to hide the home page completely. Instead, a new tab will open at startup. This option can save time and bandwidth, especially if it's limited.
  5. Also, you can set several important pages for you as start pages. When launched, they appear as tabs on the home page - just enter the URL of the pages you want in the field on a new line each of them.

When finished, click the "OK" button.

How to block changing IE start page

It often happens that a home PC or laptop can be used by several people. For example, friends and family members. Some of them may accidentally change the start page or put their own, which is inconvenient for you. Also, some programs may also try to change the browser home page. In such cases, blocking IE's start page change is a useful feature.

Method 1 - using group policy

If you want to prevent any users from changing the IE home page, use the edit in Group Policy - this is the easiest and most reliable way. To do this, run it (Run command - gpedit.msc)

and go to the next section "User Configuration", find and open the "Administrative Templates" folder, then "Windows Components" and click on "Internet Explorer".

In the list, find the option "Disable changing the start page" and double-click on it. In the pop-up window for setting parameters, mark the item "Enabled" and click "OK".

Prevent changing the home page using the registry

If the policy editor didn't help, or you didn't find the option you were looking for, the registry will help you. Open the Run dialog box (Win + R). And enter the command "Regedit" (without quotes). Press Enter to open the Registry Editor Management Console.

Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USER branch, then in this branch open the Software sub-branch, Policies in it, and finally Microsoft. Find the "Internet Explorer" branch and expand it.

In the "Control Panel" section, find the "HomePage" parameter and change its value to 1.

It often happens that after installing a new program or panel in the browser, when it starts, it loads a completely different initial (start) page that it was. I will try to explain in detail how you can change or disable the start page in the most popular browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome and Opera.

Changing the start page in different browsers

Settings in Google Chrome

In Google Chrome, there are two options for the start page: predefined in the settings or quick access with a list of frequently visited sites.

  1. To change the home page settings in the Google Chrome browser, click the key-shaped icon in the upper right corner of the program. In the drop-down menu, select the "Parameters" item.

    Go to browser options settings

  2. The settings tab will open. The Starter Group offers three settings:
    • open the main page;
    • restore the last open tabs;
    • open the following pages (here you can list which will open when the browser is launched).
  3. In the settings of the "Main page" you can choose one of two options:
  4. Ready. The tab can be closed, there are no buttons to save the settings. After these steps, the next time you start Google Chrome, it will open the start page that you configured.

Internet Explorer

  1. Open the Internet Explorer settings menu: right-click on the browser icon and select the "Properties" item in the drop-down menu.

    Go to browser properties

  2. Or launch Explorer and click the gear icon in the upper right corner. Open the menu open "Properties" - "Internet Options".

Go to the properties and settings of the browser

  3. The standard Internet properties menu will open. To open the browser with an empty start page, delete everything from the "Home" field and click the "OK" button. If you need to open certain pages, enter their addresses, one in each line.

We fill in the addresses of the pages that need to be opened when starting the browser

How to change in Mozilla Firefox

Now let's talk about Mozilla Firefox.

How to change the start page in the Opera browser

In the Opera browser, the settings are about the same as in Firefox, but there is still a slight difference.

So, we are faced with the task of changing the home (start) page of the Internet Explorer browser. First, go to the Start menu, select the Control Panel item.

Video for Windows 7

From Uv. Andrey Kudryashov!

Oddly enough, many users do not know how to use the home page. In this article I will reveal the secrets of this "miracle". But first, a little theory.
I think there is no need to explain what it is, and if it is necessary, then I will briefly write only that this is the program through which you are now reading this article (if everything is really bad, then I think you call it Internet Explorer).
The home page is the web page that opens to you immediately after starting the browser. And there is one unpleasant moment in this. The fact is that very often browser developers install a lot of things from themselves into their software products, but almost everyone considers it a kind of duty to put some nonsense that only They need as a Home page. For example, a website for an online store or affiliate search. And if you think about those who remake "watermelons" and upload assemblies to the Internet? And then there are program developers who, during installation, also often ask permission (and some even secretly) to change the home page to their own. Also, when you go to the sites, you can "pick up" something that will then change your home page. It's generally like an epidemic. It’s unpleasant.
In general, we will fix this matter and put what we like on the home page. For example my site

I'll start with the very, most beloved browser - Internet Explorer.

In order to change the home page of the internet explorer Service, and then Internet options

A window will open in which on the tab Are common the address of the current home page will be shown. Here you can either enter the site address yourself, or click the "Current" button (the address of the page that is currently open will be entered in the field), or click the "Empty" button and then no page will open at all when the browser starts.

After you have set the home page, click the "Apply" button, then "OK" and everything will be finished.

The next browser in line is Opera.

Customize home page in Opera easy too.
Launch the browser, select in the top menu Settings - General settings(or just immediately press the key combination Ctrl + F12)

In the appeared settings window on the tab The main in field Home you can enter the one you need or click the "Current" button and insert the address of the page that is currently open in the field.
An additional feature in this window is that you can customize the actions of the browser at startup. I will not dwell on this, because the topic of the article is not about that. You can see for yourself by expanding the list

At the end, click "OK" and everything will be saved. You don't even have to close the browser.

Now let's move on to another popular browser - Mozilla Firefox

In order to change home page in muff, you need to select in the top menu Tools, and then Settings

The situation here is similar with others, so I will not dwell on it. In the tab The main either manually enter the desired address of the future home page, or press the buttons "Use current page" or "Use bookmark ..." (if there is one). You can also choose the action of firefox at startup (open a blank page, home page or restore the previous session).

Click "OK" and enjoy the result.

And finally, this is how we got to the last browser in this kind of review - Google Chrome (google chrome).

To be more precise, I will not describe this particular browser. Because now there are a lot of browsers based on it. Or rather, based on the Chrominium engine, which the first began to implement in Google and everyone associates it with it. I will give an example based on my browser - Iron, the settings are still identical for everyone - Yandex browser, browser from Mail, Comodo, Orbitum, Amigo and a bunch of others who are now riveting to all and sundry, because the engine is publicly available.

So, click on the icon in the corner of the browser and select Settings(or enter the link in the address bar chrome: // settings /)
