Instructions for using iphone. IPhone for dummies or what to do after buying an iPhone (iPad)

So, what is this article about and for whom? In order not to be thrown over with floppy disks, videotapes and other waste products - I want to immediately make it clear: this article is not so much for the readers of Habr as for their loved ones.

Imagine a scenario - someone close to you got an iPhone or iPad, but at the same time he is not one of those who will scrupulously study the multi-page manual and each menu item. It is for such people that I am writing this article.

Of course, you can use an i-gadget without instruction, but you can miss something useful.

But I I highly recommend reading this article in its entirety... It is unlikely that you will remember how all the described functionality is used and immediately run to use everything, but it will be in your head that such functionality is generally present. And when you begin to miss him - then you will remember this article.

Although I wanted to be shorter, there are many nuances - so the text is still voluminous ... Yes, and the information is grouped thematically, and not by complexity. So don't drop it in the middle :) To make it not very boring, I will, if possible, entertain you with pictures.

So let's go!

What's with the sim card?

If you don't know, iPhones and iPads use their own SIM format - microsim. You have two options - either armed with scissors to cut your full-size SIM card with your own hands to a micro-version (instructions on this matter - the sea, for example - here). Just keep in mind that even if trimmed correctly, not every SIM card will work - some old ones do not want to work.

Or - just go to the communication salon and they will give you a micro SIM card, while blocking the old one. The number, of course, will be preserved. I don’t know about other operators, but for MTS it takes 2 minutes and is free. Just bring your passport.

How to turn on?

Do not laugh. After purchasing a new iPhone and clicking "enable", you will find that it asks for a SIM card and activation.

We figured out the SIM card. What about activation?

To activate, you need a computer (if the phone is on iOS 4), or just WiFi (for iOS 5). In general, you can hear the myth that it is impossible to use an iPhone without a computer. It is not true. A computer is required only when you turn on your iOS 4 device for the first time. if you have a new iPhone 4S, you don't even need a computer.

To activate your phone on iOS 4 - put iTunes on your computer, connect your phone to your computer, and then follow the instructions. Everything is simple there.

True, I advise you to put iTunes in any case, even if you activate the phone via WiFi. For it is an irreplaceable tool.

I will immediately note a few points that may be of interest to you:

  • If you are a girl, then take care of purchasing an iPhone case. It's glass on both sides. And this glass is quite easily scratched (whatever the marketers assure). Especially in a woman's purse :)
  • As for the protective film on the screen, it's a matter of taste, of course. But keep in mind that the screen is covered with a special oleophobic coating that repels grease. That allows the phone not to get dirty and wipe it off with a light movement of a cloth (and simply - when taken out of a pocket / case). If you stick the film, you will lose this effect.
  • As a stand / overnight charge - I advise you to buy a docking station (on eBay it can be ordered for $ 3 with shipping). Just keep in mind that headphone jack stands tend to silence the phone when you put it down (if you don't like this, you can fix this by cutting the track near the only resistor inside the stand).
  • When traveling abroad - be sure to turn off "data transmission". In order not to accidentally open Google Maps or update the weather for a lot of money in roaming.

How can I transfer contacts from my old phone?

Synchronize your old phone with Outlook. For each phone model, this is done in its own way, using a special program from the manufacturer.

And then - already synchronize your Outlook contacts with iTunes - and it will upload them to the iPhone.

How to download photos / music / videos, etc.?

For all this, the iTunes program is used. A bit nerdy, but that's aytyunz. Yes, and the download / upload process is called "synchronization" here. You select in iTunes what you want to upload to your phone, and then click the "sync" button. At the same time and in the opposite direction - pictures from the phone / tablet are copied to the computer.

By the way, what about the video? I heard that you just can't watch an avi movie ...

Yes. Just like that - you will not look. But if you install a special player, you can watch whatever you want by simply dropping the files onto your phone. I recommend AVPlayer. Looks everything in the world - avi (xvid, divx), mkv, etc.

Oh, and there is no flash on i-devices!

Yes. No flash. But I, now, have been using apple devices for several years now - and I have never noticed! All videos from a contact, youtube, vimeo, etc. - perfectly reproduced. And the fact that I don't see flash banners is only a plus.

What is AppStore? Do I need to register?

Appstore is a store for applications and games. It is from here and only from here that you can install applications (there is also an unofficial way - jailbreak, but about it - below).

You can (and should) buy in the app directly from a credit card. Don't be afraid for the prices. Most of what is useful is generally free or costs $ 1.

If you do not have a credit card (you need one that can be paid on the internet), then you can register without it - for this you need to try to buy a free application.

Typing and keyboard.

"B"on the iPhone is hidden in the soft-sign button. Just hold it a little longer.

In addition, you can type different characters like ₩ ¿", etc. in the same way. Also, in Safari, holding down the ".com" button can bring up a list with other zones (.net, .org, .ru, etc.)

By the way, there is also a reason to turn off auto correction... For by default, by writing a word that the device considers erroneous and pressing a space after it, you will automatically replace the word with "correct". Sometimes, when you use words outside the dictionary, you may find amazing results after sending the message :)

WITH comma more difficult. Or switch to symbols, type a comma and press the spacebar - the layout itself will return to letters. Or, hold down the switch to the character register and, without lifting, slide your finger to the comma.

To enable the mode Caps lock(all caps) - double-click the shift button (the one with the up arrow).

iPad. Can split keyboard into 2 halves - just hold down the button with the keyboard and pull it up.

Editing text.

Poke your finger into the text and the cursor will move to the specified location. For more precise positioning, do not release your finger and start moving it over the text - a magnifying glass will appear.

You can undo the action (undo) by shaking.

Desktop icons.

Everything is simple and pretty obvious here. Click on any icon and hold. After a few seconds, the icons will start to shake. They can now be dragged and dropped. If you drop one on top of the other, they will create a folder. Here you can delete applications (tapping on the red minuses in the corners). Exit editing mode - Home (1 time).

You might want to remove some of the standard icons (iTunes, FaceTime) so as not to clutter up the table. You cannot delete them, but you can turn them off in Settings → Restrictions.

Notifications.

Some apps send you notifications. For example, a VKontakte client sends you all incoming messages. The way notifications are displayed can always be selected in Settings → Notifications. There you can choose whether there will be sound, whether you want to display notifications immediately on the screen (like SMS), on the locked screen, whether they will go to the notification center, etc.

By the way, about notification center- all your notifications are saved here. To open it, pull the top strip with the clock down.

The weather can also be displayed here.

Non-obvious buttons.

If you press the "Home" button (round, under the screen) and the power button (on the top) at the same time, you will take a screenshot.

Double-clicking "Home" on a locked phone (for iOS version 5.0) - quick call to the camera (for 5.1 - move the slider up). You can take pictures with the volume up button (including on the headset, which is good so as not to introduce unnecessary jitter into the frame). Thus, the interface for controlling the music player is called (you can control the playback without unlocking the phone).

If the phone does not respond to the shutdown button and freezes, then press Home + Power (as well as to take a screen shot) and hold for 15 seconds. As soon as an apple appears, release it.

Fast forward up.

In a notebook or in Safari, to quickly return to the top of the list (to the top of the page) - click on the top line with the clock.

If someone calls, but you do not want to pick up the phone, press the shutdown button 1 time. The call will not be dropped and the phone will continue to ring silently.

The second press will drop the call.

In addition, if during a conversation you need to play Angry Birds and rummage in your notebook, you can safely press the "Home" button. She will give you access to the phone, and the conversation will remain.

By the way, pay attention - there is a proximity sensor at the top of the phone (next to the speaker), which turns off the screen during a call when the phone is close to the head / cheek (by the way, now remember in how many films you saw how the hero communicates on an iPhone with a glowing screen! iPhone won't do this in talk mode). So, if during a conversation you take the phone away from your ear, the sensor will work - and turn the screen back on (give it a second or two). Just do not cover the top of the phone with your hand, otherwise the screen will not turn on (I repeat - the sensor works only during a call).

Multitasking. Switching applications.

Click on Home button twice in a row and a panel with applications will open at the bottom. These are the applications that have been launched recently. The list is scrolled left and right with swipes (by the way, if you turn it to the very left, you can find there a quick brightness control (for iPad) / volume (for iPhone) and player control).

IOS multitasking is tricky. When you minimize an application, it does not necessarily close. In most cases, it still hangs in memory (although it does not work). That is why some applications start for a long time when they are first launched, and then instantly. True, later, when the system decides that it needs memory, it can kill the application (it will still remain on the list).

What is this list for?

First, you can open any of the recent apps or quickly switch between apps. Sometimes this is more convenient than looking for an icon on the desktop.

And secondly, you can forcefully kill any application from memory. This can be useful when it comes, again, about the navigator (if you do not want it to eat up the battery in the background and give you directions even when you are already at home). Another option is when the application crashes and you want to restart it completely.

To close an application, hold your finger over the applications in the list below (similar to how you do on the desktop to drag and drop icons). Then there will be red "minus" buttons for each icon, with which you can close them.

So if you have a suspicion that some application is sitting in the background and consuming a battery using, for example, GPS or Internet traffic - kill it!

How to erase a letter, call, etc.?

To erase an element in iOS, horizontal swipe (swipe) is widely used. A delete button will appear:

SMS delivery report.

For some reason, Apple did not include this option in the phone's capabilities (apparently, it considered it unnecessary). But there is a way out. As a rule, to start receiving SMS delivery reports, you need to change the SMS center and send some special command. All this is free. What and where to send depends on the operator (or even on the region?). Information on this topic can be found on the Internet. Here is one of the articles: ibobr.ru/manual/iphone-otchet-o-dostavke-sms.html (MTS, Megafon, Beeline)

Free sms / mms and iMessage.

Starting from the 5th version of iOS, the SMSok writer has been merged with the iMessage service, which allows sending text and pictures over the Internet to those who also use this service.

In fact - we receive penny sms "ki (in the presence of an Internet, at the price of mobile traffic) between iPhones.

Nothing is required of you. Just turn on iMessage and that's it (Settings → Messages → iMessage). And write the usual SMS. The phone will figure it out on its own - whether the addressee has iMessage on the other end or not. And if there is, it will send your text / picture via the Internet. The fact that your interlocutor has iMessage enabled, you will understand by the blue "send" button and by your blue messages (instead of the usual green).

What is iCloud and why do I need it?

iCloud is a cloud storage service (i.e. when your photos, contacts, etc. are uploaded to the Apple server and stored there (just in case or to synchronize multiple i-devices).

From the convenient and useful I can mention the service " Photo stream". The bottom line is that everything that you photograph is automatically uploaded to the cloud and automatically sent to all devices that have access to it. That is, if you have an iPhone, iPad and a regular computer (on Windows or MacOS), then by turning on "Photostream" and having taken a picture on an iPhone, it literally immediately gets to your iPad and to your daddy on your computer. You walked, took pictures, came home, the phone caught your home WiFi and silently threw all the pictures into the cloud, and from there they already got to your computer and iPad.

Very comfortably. All photos are always at hand on all devices. Connected in the "settings".

Theft / loss protection.

In the same place, in the iCloud settings, I advise you to enable "Find my iPhone". This will allow you, in case of loss / theft of the device, to see where it is on the map, remotely block it, send a message to it and even erase all information.

Just so that the person who found / stole your device could not easily disable this setting, then limit its change with a password. This is enabled in Settings → General → Restrictions → Accounts → Prohibit change.

Just do not flatter yourself. This is not a panacea. If the person in whose hands your device is at least a little "in the know", then he can easily bypass this protection by completely flashing the device.

What applications should I install?

Here is a list of useful applications that anyone may need in their daily life.
  • Yandex maps(free) - sometimes it is more convenient (and more addresses / establishments) than in standard Google Maps + traffic jams. Searching for the phone number of a store using Yandex cards is a pleasure! There is a bridging schedule for Peter.
  • If you are driving, then definitely free Yandex Navigator
  • Poster, Movie poster, Timeout(free) - see where which movie is on, ratings for clubs, cafes, etc. I personally recommend Afisha.
  • Yandex Metro(free) - a metro map with the calculation of how long the trip will take, taking into account the speed of trains, transfers, etc.
  • Yandex Electric trains(free) - train schedule
  • Gismeteo lite(free) - weather forecast, guesses the weather better than the built-in "weather".
  • Flashlight(free) - shines with a flash like a flashlight, very bright. Anyway, you must have.
  • In contact with(official, free) - favorite social media the network is always at hand, in addition - it is possible to set up notifications so that all messages come to you almost immediately on your phone (like SMS messages), etc. Just look, don't get confused - download the official application from the VK team, and not all sorts of leftists, of which there are a dozen. I don't know what's wrong with Classmates, but I think that there is also an application. As with Facebook"ah, of course.
  • Skype(free) - Good to have. Not even necessary for Skype communication. Sometimes it is an irreplaceable thing, for example, when you are in roaming, but there is free WiFi, then using Skype you can call home for a penny.
  • AppShopper(free) - An application that monitors discounts in the AppStore. Very often, what costs $ 1 can be snatched for free, and what costs $ 5 - for $ 1.
  • AVPlayer- Omnivorous video player.
  • Air Video- Allows you to watch videos stored on your computer via WiFi. Those. if you like to lie on the couch with your iPad and watch a movie, but you don’t want to download video to the device itself every time, then this is for you.
  • Photoshop Express, Instagram(both are free) - Photo editors - adjust brightness, apply effects.

What to play? That's how I don't play ... but what if?

If you are not a fan of games, but want to have something to sometimes take 5 minutes by poking into the phone, then I will not be original here. (By the way, many games have free lite versions, in which there are few levels, but with which you can evaluate the toy)

Advise Angry Birds(There are many versions of them - Space, Rio, Seasons, take the usual ones to start with).

AND Cut the rope.

I also advise " Crocodile Swampy"(Where is my water?).

How not to pay for apps. Jailbreak.

Here I will not go into details, but I will simply describe the most important thing that any owner of an apple device should know.

As I already said, initially only applications from the AppStore can be installed on the i-gadget. This means that you have to pay for paid applications. And also that you will not be able to put various interface changes and other things that Apple did not allow in its store (Apple is strongly against changing their interface).

But there is a way out - jailbreak (not to be confused with unlock). Jailbreak is a process when, using special utilities, full access to the phone is opened, after which you can install any applications / games (including absolutely free) and other goodies without any problems.

I won't write about how to jailbreak. A specialist or Google will help you here. Here are just the basic things you should know.

  • We will restore the jailbreak. Those. you can always roll back to the "official" firmware. By the way, if you have a broken device, do not update the firmware under any circumstances. then the jail will fly off. In addition, not every firmware version can be jailbroken (usually the jailbreak for new firmware versions does not appear immediately).
  • Not every i-gadget can be broken. For example, there is no normal jail for iPhone 4S and iPad New yet. But hackers are doing their best :)
  • The jailbreak does not prevent you from continuing to use the official AppStore and officially buying applications there, if you want.
  • There are two types of jailbreak - tethered and non-tethered. I strongly advise you to use only unattached. "Binding" means that to turn on the phone you will have to perform cunning manipulations on the computer, which means that if you have to turn off the phone outside of your home, you will not turn it back on until you get to the computer. Untethered jailbreak does not have such a disadvantage and does not cause any discomfort.

I don't mind paying $ 1 for a game, do I need to jailbreak?

Just to say that jailbreak is not only free installation of applications.

Jail allows you to put various interface changes (tweaks).

  • SBSettings(quick buttons to enable / disable Wi-Fi, cellular data and other things)
  • iBooksFix2- heals iBooks crash after jail
  • KuaiDial- this is practically the main thing for the sake of which I make jail. Flexible change of dialer and SMS. For me, the most important functions are avatars in all call lists (not just in favorites) and in SMS chats. I'm used to them. :) (in addition, there is the possibility of a blacklist, a list of operator codes, etc. - but I personally don't really need this)

iPhone 6S and newer models support 3D Touch technology. With its help, you can use special gestures to interact with the display. One of these gestures allows you to quickly switch between open programs. To try it out, slide your finger from the left edge to the middle of the screen, applying light pressure to the glass. The display should show the previous program window.

2. Scale the font and interface

If small text or other interface details tire your eyes, use iPhone settings to enlarge them.

To change other elements, go to the menu "General" → "Accessibility" → "Enlarged text" and specify the desired scale using a special scale. This option will affect the interface of iOS, as well as messengers, social networks and other programs that support the "Dynamic Font" function.

3. Use text search on web pages

4. Turn your flash into a call indicator

In particularly noisy rooms, you can miss an important call, even if your smartphone is vibrated. For such cases, you can configure an additional alert for incoming calls - light. An ordinary flash will signal. To use it as a call indicator, open “Settings” → “General” → “Universal access” → “Flash alerts” and activate the option of the same name.

Alas, this method has a drawback: the smartphone must be in the field of view and with the display facing down. Otherwise, you simply won't see the notification.

5. Take pictures while shooting video

Perhaps, filming the next video, you want to capture individual frames. To do this, it is not necessary to cut them out of the video, because the button for taking photos is displayed in the "Camera" application menu during video recording. It is located in the lower left corner of the display. Use this button when you want to get a photo of some interesting moment.

6. Turn off notifications while you sleep

When you sleep, the iPhone continues to work. During this time, you may be disturbed by unwanted calls or notifications from various programs. To enjoy the silence, set the Do Not Disturb mode to the time of day that you usually sleep.

Go to settings and click "Do not disturb". In the menu that opens, enable the option of the same name and select quiet hours. During the specified time, every day you can only be disturbed by calls from selected people. You can add any number to this list in the Contacts program.

7. Record video from your screen

In iOS 11, there is a built-in one with which you can record video from the screen without help. In this way, you can, for example, record gameplay for YouTube.

To access the function, add a dedicated button to a control point: go to Settings → Control Center → Configure Element. Controls "and add the" Screen Recording "option to the" Enable "list.

To start recording, just swipe up from the bottom border of the display and press the corresponding button in the control center.

8. Use a timer to auto power off music

Some users like to fall asleep to their favorite tracks. If you are one of them, then you will be pleased with the ability to turn off timer playback. This function is not available in the Music player, but in a separate application, so not everyone knows about it.

To set the auto-off timer for music, open the Clock app and go to the Timer tab. Then specify the time before the shutdown, click "When finished" and select the "Stop" action.

9. Set up the display for dark time of day

You may have heard that using screens before bed makes it difficult to fall asleep. The point is the radiation, which is the right hormones.

Fortunately, iOS has a dedicated backlight mode that minimizes the display's negative impact on sleep. To set it up, go to Settings → Display and Brightness → Night Shift, click Scheduled, and set the approximate time from sunset to sunrise.

10. Use auto redial

Most landline phones have a useful Redial button that redials the last dialed number. On iPhone, you can use a voice command instead of this button. Just say “Hey Siri, call again” and the assistant will call the last dialed number. This will save you from having to go into the call log and select the desired number manually.

1. Taking pictures without using the touch screen

Just call Siri with a long touch on the Home button and ask to turn on the camera. To take a photo, press any volume button on your smartphone or headphones.

2. Emergency reboot

In those rare cases when the iPhone freezes or needs to free up the device's RAM, an emergency reboot will help. Just hold down the Home button and the Lock button for 10 seconds.

3. Triple press the Home button

Go to the item "Accessibility" in the main settings of the iPhone. Scroll down to the Shortcut Keys tab - you will see a list of functions. Triple-tapping the Home button launches VoiceOver, color invert (useful for reading), some display settings, screen zoom, and Switch Control or AssistiveTouch.

To turn on the magnifier by triple-pressing the Home button, simply select the appropriate item in “Accessibility”.

4. Double tap on the Home button sensor

Perhaps all iPhone users know that double-clicking on the mechanical Home button opens the application selection window. But not everyone is aware that a double tap on the button sensor slightly "lowers" the screen, allowing owners of large smartphones to easily reach the top icons.

5. Using 3D Touch

If you have an iPhone 6s or newer, using 3D Touch can make your life easier and save time. This technology will speed up movement between applications, make typing more convenient and.

6. Reassigning the volume buttons

The iPhone has two volume settings: one for calls and notifications, and one for music and apps. Turning off the “Change with buttons” toggle switch in the sound settings will fix the ringer volume in the current position and transfer control of music and applications exclusively to the side buttons.

Work with text

7. Undo the last action

Just shake your smartphone, and iOS will offer to undo the last action, be it typing, pasting, or, conversely, deleting text.

8. Fast domain entry

In cases where the keyboard prompts you to quickly enter the ..com domain, hold your finger on this button. You will see a list of popular domains, where you can quickly switch to the coveted.ru.

9. Removing the microphone icon from the keyboard

The microphone icon between the space bar and the language change button is intended for voice text input. You can remove the icon by moving the "Enable dictation" slider to the inactive position in the keyboard settings.

10. Listening to the text

iOS supports Screen Aloud feature. To enable it, activate the slider in the speech settings: "Settings" → "General" → "Universal access". To have iPhone speak on the screen, swipe down with two fingers in any app.

Safety

11. Create a letter password to unlock

If you don't trust four- or six-digit passwords and don't like Touch ID technology, you can set a long one.

Go to the passcode settings and select "Change passcode". The system will ask you to enter the old combination first, and then the new one. On the screen for entering a new password, click on "Passcode options" and select an acceptable option.

12. Improving the accuracy of Touch ID

To help iPhone recognize you more confidently and quickly, create multiple fingerprints of the same finger.

13. Create hidden photos

If you take photos in the standard camera application, they will be saved in the media library. To protect a photo with a password, you need to use a trick. Disable photo export and set a password in the Notes app settings. To take a secret photo, go to create a new note and tap on the camera icon. After the photo is taken, click on "Export" and select "Lock Note".

14. Guided Access

We often give the smartphone into the wrong hands “pass the level in the game”, “read an article” or “watch a video on YouTube”. If you don't trust whoever will use your iPhone, turn on guided access in the settings: "General" → "Accessibility" → "Guided access".

When handing over the iPhone to someone, press the Home button three times to enable guide access, and the person will only be able to use the open application.

Siri

15. "Whose iPhone is this?"

If you find a lost iPhone, Siri can help you contact the owner without entering a password. Ask her "Whose iPhone is this?" or "Who owns this iPhone?", and a window with the name of the owner of the gadget will open in front of you.

To find your iPhone can find you in this way, go to Siri settings and in the "Data" tab, assign a contact with information about yourself.

16. Siri male voice

Not everyone knows, but our faithful electronic assistant can speak in a pleasant male voice. This option is available in Siri settings.

Calls

17. Calling the last dialed number

To repeat the last call, you do not have to go to the "Recent" tab. Click on the green handset on the screen with the keys, and the iPhone will offer to call back the last dialed number.

18. Quick access to your favorite contacts

To quickly dial important numbers, add them to the "Favorites" tab in the standard "Phone" application. Swipe right on the desktop to go to the widgets panel. Scroll down and click "Change", and then tap the plus sign next to the "Favorites" widget. Now you can call your loved ones faster and even when the screen is locked.

19. Incoming call detection in headphones

Answering calls with headphones is sometimes much easier than reaching for your phone. To find out who is calling you without taking your iPhone out of your pocket, turn on the Call Announcements toggle switch in your phone settings.

Posts

20. Deleting old messages

Deleting irrelevant messages will help to restore order in correspondence and free up precious megabytes of memory. Find the item "Leave messages" in the settings and set the required time after which messages will be deleted.

21. Saving traffic in "Messages"

In order not to waste traffic on heavy attachments, enable low quality mode in the message settings.

22. Time of sending messages

One of the non-obvious features of Messages is to view the exact time it was sent. Just swipe from the right side of the screen.

Alarm

23. Set up a call from Apple Music

The ability to set your favorite song to your alarm is not a trick, but a basic iPhone feature that many don't know about. When creating a new alarm, click on the Sound tab. Scroll the list to the very beginning, in front of the standard ringtones, find a panel with familiar names and click on "Select Song".

24. Snooze alarm

To reschedule the alarm clock at a later time, it is not necessary to look for the corresponding button on the screen. Press any side button and iPhone will wake you up again in nine minutes.

This interval was not chosen by chance: old mechanical alarm clocks could not count exactly 600 seconds. They did not take into account the current minute and began counting already nine minutes from the next.

Safari

25. Search by word on page

Enter the desired word in the address bar. In the drop-down menu under the search engine suggestions, select "On this page."

26. Recently closed tabs

Go to the screen showing previews of open pages and hold your finger on the "+" button. You will see a list of recently closed tabs. This is useful if you accidentally closed a page that was open for a long time that is difficult to find in your browser history.

27. Convert Safari Page to PDF File

28. Opening links in the background

Other basic applications and services

29. Spotlight as a converter

Swiping down on any iPhone screen opens Spotlight. Its use significantly reduces the time spent searching for something in a smartphone. Spotlight produces results from many applications: it can help you find the right episode of a podcast, a post by keyword, or a person on Twitter. Also, a standard search engine can act as a converter. Just enter the request "1 usd" or "15 inches per cm".

30. Convert slow motion video to normal video

If you've played around with the slow motion function and accidentally shot in slow motion what would have looked better with natural speed, it is easy to bring the video to the original tempo without additional applications. Open the video editing section and adjust the values on the speed bar. This strip is located above the timing field where we usually cut the rollers.

31. Level

The compass in the base of applications is practically useless in the city. But if you swipe the screen to the left, you can get a level - an indispensable device for repair and installation.

32. Apple Music Storage Optimization

Turn on the storage optimization feature in your music settings, and iPhone will automatically delete songs you rarely listen to. This will happen only when the device memory runs out.

To set the minimum amount of music that will not be deleted from the iPhone, you can set the storage size.

33. Geolocation reminders

App Store task managers offer a ton of features, but standard Reminders can do a lot. For example, the basic app might remind you to buy milk not only at 3:00 pm, but also when you visit a store. To enable this function, select "Remind me at my place" and find the required geolocation in the task settings.

Battery

34. Enabling power saving mode

If the iPhone has more than 20% charge left, but it is still very far to the nearest outlet, it makes sense to switch to power saving mode. To enable the mode, simply ask Siri about it or find the corresponding item in the battery settings. In these settings, you can also find a list of the most energy-consuming applications and close them in a timely manner.

35. Silent charging connection

Vibration when connecting the charger to an iPhone can be avoided by opening the Camera app before connecting the Lightning cable. The device will start charging, and your sensitive sleeping relatives will not be woken up by a sudden sound.

When I was going to buy my first one a couple of years ago iPhone 4s, then of course I was interested in everything related to this device. And before buying it, I asked many questions to Yandex, Google and my friends, who already had it. I even wrote something down at that time.
And just recently, leafing through a notebook, I came across these entries, and decided to save them on the blog.
Today's article can hardly be called relevant: whoever has an iPhone, most likely already knows all this. However, let my “ unofficial iPhone user guide”Will stay here.

If you need it then official iPhone user manual you can view on your iPhone via browser Safari by opening the “iPhone Guide” tab:
You can also go to the application iBooks and download the guide for free from the iBooks Store.
You can also go to the Apple website from computer and find the required manual for your iOS version there.

So, my questions before and after buying an iPhone and the answers to them:

1. Will my regular SIM card work for an iPhone?

No. IPhone 4S needs Micro-Sim, for iPhone 5 and 6 - required Nano-Sim:
You can try to make your own SIM card for an iPhone by cutting it off with scissors. But it is better not to risk it, but simply contact the communication salon of your mobile operator - you will be given a new one. They took 50 rubles from me for this, and they were credited to my account. After you are given a new one, the old SIM card will stop working.

2. What to buy to protect your iPhone from scratches?

Personally, immediately after buying an iPhone, I bought it in a store protective film for him. A set of two films (for the front and back of the smartphone) cost me 400 rubles. The fact is that I didn’t want to immediately buy neither a cover-book nor a protective cover for the back wall for the iPhone. But if the smartphone is not protected in any way, then micro-scratches will appear on it very quickly (especially on the back side). That's why I bought a protective film, pasted it on and I'm happy.

It is not at all difficult to glue the film: just read the instructions for it (or watch the video on YouTube) and do everything slowly. If you’re afraid that you don’t carefully stick it yourself and “there will be bubbles”, then you can contact the specialists (I was offered to do this right in the store for 200 rubles).

3. What to do with an iPhone immediately after purchase?

First you need to insert a SIM card into it and then turn on the device itself. Turns on iPhone 4S and 5 by holding the button on top:

On the iPhone 6 this button is on the right side edge:

4. Where to insert the SIM card in the iPhone?

The iPhone box contains a special clip... Take it and insert it into the hole on the side of the machine. A small tray will slide out of the case. We insert a SIM card into it and push the tray back.
By the way, you can install and remove a SIM card from an iPhone without turning off the device itself.

5. What to do with the iPhone immediately after switching on?

After turning on the iPhone for the first time, you need activate... There is nothing difficult in this: follow the instructions on the screen - the iPhone is smart and will tell you everything itself. The only thing that can confuse you is the offer. Don't be afraid - just create it.

For a complete setup, you will need access to the Internet. Therefore, at this moment it is better to be in the coverage area of some kind of Wi-Fi network.

6. What is Apple ID?

Apple ID- this is your account that allows you to use all Apple services. Namely, this is a bundle: email address + password that you specify when registering an account.

With an Apple ID, you can install games and applications from the App Store, buy media content in iTunes, use the iCloud cloud storage and use it to sync your mail, contacts, notes, and more. In general, if you own an iPhone or iPad, you cannot do without an Apple ID.

Then choose a Wi-Fi network(You won't be able to activate your iPhone without the Internet). Then you need to enable or disable geolocation service... Geolocation determines your location (needed for maps and navigation, for geotagging photos). It can be enabled later for individual applications:

There are two ways to set up your iPhone: like New, and restore backup from the iCloud cloud service or a computer using iTunes. If you have your first iPhone, then feel free to choose the item “ Set up like a new iPhone”.

On the next screen, click “ Create Apple ID for Free”:

Farther enter your E-mail(I entered my mailbox address, which I always use), Create a password(it must be at least 8 characters long and contain at least one capital letter and one number).

Be sure to remember or write down the password you have invented - now you will have to enter it and e-mail quite often when accessing Apple services. The specified e-mail and password is your Apple ID.

Further, to ensure the security of your account, you will be asked a few additional questions, asked to provide a backup email address - we do what they ask. A letter will be sent to the mailbox indicated above. You can open it later (for example, I went to my mail from my computer after a few hours) and follow the link in the letter to complete the creation of the Apple ID.

Next, you will be asked if you agree to use various Apple services. You can agree or not - in any case, all this can then be turned on or vice versa, turned off in the smartphone settings.

At the last point, we will be asked if we want to send diagnostic data to Apple. You can refuse to help the company.

That's all. The iPhone is finally ready to go!

The numbers must match everywhere (both on the box and in the settings).

If we entered all the letters and numbers of the serial number correctly, then the name and model of our device should appear. If it does, it means that our iPhone is original and officially released. If you just bought a new iPhone and have not yet activated it, then when checking on the site you will see the following message: “You must confirm the date of purchase of the product”:
If nothing was found, then you have a fake in your hands.

10. I'm calling from a new iPhone, but I can't hear the interlocutor well. What's the matter?

You will laugh: immediately after the purchase, I checked the quality of the connection and called a friend from the iPhone - I heard him badly. I even managed to get upset, but then I noticed that did not peel off the protective film from the screen that covered the speaker 🙂. When I took it off, the audibility was excellent.
Not to be confused with the film that I bought specifically to protect it from scratches.

29. How to transfer files via bluetooth on iPhone?

The iPhone does not have the ability to send or receive files using Bluetooth technology. In the iPhone, bluetooth is needed to synchronize with various external devices: headsets, sports accessories, monopods. Honestly, when I myself just became the owner of the iPhone, I was very surprised by this circumstance. However, over time, I became convinced that this is not really what I need 🙂

You can transfer a file from one iPhone to another using AirDrop technology. But both of these iPhones must be at least version 5 (so I fly with my 4s 🙂).

Note that iPhone owners can transfer a file via bluetooth to another smartphone (not iOS) with Jailbreak... To do this, you will need to download a special extension in an alternative app store. Cydia(like the App Store).

30. What is iPhone Jailbreak?

Jailbreak (Jailbreak) Is a software operation with mobile devices running the iOS operating system, which opens up access to the file system for various software. In simple terms, Jailbreak gives you access to the system as an Administrator and not as a User.

You can do this operation yourself: the Internet is full of programs for jailbreak iOS and instructions for them.

The main advantage of jailbreak is the ability to install third-party applications that Apple for some reason did not approve for downloading in the App Store.
After jailbreak on your iPhone, automatically Cydia will appear... This is an alternative app store for iPhone - like the App Store. Just like in the App Store, you can download various applications in Cydia (most of them are free).

Also, after jailbreak, it will be possible to download paid applications from the App Store for free.

While Jailbreak is an operation not officially supported by Apple, it is not an infringement of Apple's copyright. However, after the jailbreak procedure, the device loses the Apple warranty and is not subject to warranty repair. But you can restore your iPhone to factory settings via iTunes and no one will prove that you have ever jailbreak this device.

Be aware that if your iPhone is jailbroken and you decide to update your iOS to the latest version, this will remove the jailbreak from your iPhone. Every time an iPhone firmware update comes out, you need to wait a while for the enthusiasts to release a new Jailbreak.

Do I need to jailbreak? Personally, I think that there is no special need for this: only if for the sake of interest, just “play around”. But I believe that Jailbreak can do harm. The software available on Cydia, unlike the App Store, is not tested for reliability and security, and therefore may damage your data on the device or cause it to become unstable.
