Huawei n smart camera reviews. Full review of the Huawei P Smart phone and its features

Huawei was once again surprised by its naming policy. They launched the sales of the P Smart phone in Russia, which is called Enjoy 7s in China, and before that there has never been a model with the “P” index, after which there would be not a number, but a word. This creates difficulties in identifying the phone, because it is not clear to which series it belongs.

Note that the specs of the Huawei P Smart are very similar to the Honor 7X, and the Nova 2i. But there are chips that make it more desirable compared to competitors, we will consider them in the review.

Let's start our Huawei P Smart review with a breakdown of the package bundle. In the box you will find:

  • smartphone;
  • documentation (instructions and warranty);
  • charging and cord.

The package bundle is not rich, but few in the mid-budget price segment offer a full set of accessories out of the box.

Design

The front panel of the phone meets us with a 2.5D rounded protective glass and thin side edges around the elongated screen, which are immediately striking. For its bezelless, Huawei even came up with a marketing name - FullView. It is difficult to call a completely bezel-less phone, as the company continues to use rather wide bezels at the top and bottom. The screen ratio is not close to 80%, its dimensions are only 76.63% of the entire front panel area, and this indicator is not far from traditional smartphones with frames and an aspect ratio of 19: 9.

With the help of full-screen technology, the manufacturer has placed a 5.65-inch screen in a body that is slightly larger than the 5-inch models of previous years. The case is very thin - 7.45 mm, which is convenient for manipulating the gadget with one hand.

The speaker, sensors and front camera were placed on top. On the bottom of the front panel, only the "Huawei" logo was placed, although a physical "Home" button could fit there. The right side bears a volume rocker and a power button, and the opposite side is occupied by a tray for a memory card and a SIM card. At the bottom there is a speaker, a microphone, a headphone port, a charging jack with a MicroUSB connector. There is only a noise canceling microphone on the top.

The back panel of the smartphone consists of three parts: the upper and lower ones are made of plastic, and the middle one is made of metal. The reason the manufacturer uses a three-stage configuration for its entry-level or mid-range smartphones is to remove the antennas. They go through the plastic parts and provide better connection quality. The lid was assembled using a new bonding process, so the texture of the materials is very fine and the adhesion of the panels is reliable.

Such compact phones with elongated displays fit comfortably in the hand. And Huawei P Smart also has a nice design.

Screen

The new Huawei P Smart features a 5.65-inch IPS panel with an 18: 9 aspect ratio and Full HD + resolution (2160 x 1080 px). The protective glass has an oleophobic coating. The brightness range is 2-524 cd / m², which is more than enough for comfortable reading both in the bright sun and at night. The contrast ratio is 1: 978, the color rendition is adjustable in the settings, there is a mode to reduce the burden on the eyes, which is useful if you like to read a lot from your phone.

The smartphone screen has not bad characteristics. It is very difficult to find something better for such a price. Any pictures on a smartphone look beautiful, it's nice to read, watch videos or just surf the Internet.

Multimedia capabilities

The sound from the speaker is loud, high-pitched, but no bass. You will definitely not miss a call and notifications. The sound through the headphones is good, the volume is sufficient to listen to songs or podcasts in a noisy subway or train. Low frequencies are pleasing to the ear, the middle ones do not stand out much, and I would like a little more high frequencies.

Connection

Supports two SIM cards. There is a slot for microSD memory cards, but you can only insert them instead of one SIM card.
1/3/7/8/20 bands are supported. In Russia, LTE will work for all telecom operators, in Ukraine too. There is an NFC module, with which you can use wireless payment (for example: Android Pay or Huawei Pay).

The connection quality is excellent, the phone picks up the signal well, the speakers transmit sound quality, the interlocutor does not complain about the volume and detail, you will hear him well too.

There is a gyroscope, WI-FI, Bluetooth, OTG for connecting to other devices.

Operating system

Huawei P Smart (Enjoy 7S) runs on the latest version of the company's system - EMUI 8.0, based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It comes with new and useful features designed by the Chinese. But the feature of the software is the AI elements integrated into it.

The intelligent system will learn from your behavior and suggest news, books, music and more, adapting to your taste. EMUI 8.0 allows you to save a web page by double clicking it. Double tap on the article activates the smart screen function. Hence, you can select a piece of content and search for it without leaving the current page.

Purely visually, the shell has not undergone dramatic changes, you can also note such functions as:

  • The left-most screen on the desktop now occupies the Google Now bar, similar to the Pixel Launcher.
  • long pressing on the icon brings up the context menu;
  • icons appeared on the icons, signaling missed events;
  • added unlocking of the phone by double tap on the screen.

Otherwise, this is the same EMUI familiar to many - a fast interface with a slight tampering with IOS, the work of which most users are happy with. The user manual will tell you about small chips in detail.

Camera

Huawei P Smart is a youth phone, so modern modules have been inserted into it. The main camera with a dual module of 13 MP (f / 2.0 aperture) + 2 MP (f / 2.2 aperture). The larger lens is responsible for capturing the image, while the 2MP lens measures distances to achieve bokeh.

Of the features of the smartphone, it can be noted that it uses its own ISP for image processing, which provides good visualization and high focusing speed using PDAF technology. The camera's fast focus makes it possible to capture important moments without delay and get clear photos with trembling hands. Photos taken with this camera have good noise reduction effect and color reproduction. The overall image quality is cool, the modules cope with the task no worse than their more expensive counterparts.

The video is recorded in FullHD, there is nothing to tell about it, the stabilization is a little "lame".

On the front of the phone is an 8 megapixel camera that supports up to ten functions. It has an f / 2.0 aperture. Surprisingly, this module has the function of blurring the background thanks to software processing algorithms based on machine learning. The example photo shows that the system has not been brought to perfection, but under favorable conditions it will provide a beautiful frame. There is a "Beauty" mode, built-in support for the release of the shutter by gestures. Pictures in good lighting come out of high quality, in poor lighting the detail drops.

Performance Huawei P Smart

Compared to previous generations of Enjoy smartphones, the company has improved the hardware. The P Smart is powered by the Kirin 659 16nm chip, which Huawei puts in all of its budget and mid-range smartphones. This single-chip system provides good performance and consumes less than its predecessors. It includes 8 cores assembled in two clusters using big.LITTLE technology (4 Cortex-A53 x 1.7 GHz + 4 Cortex-A53 x 2.36 GHz), the Mali-T830 MP2 graphics accelerator (dual-core).

The Kirin 659 copes well with simple system tasks and applications, but with games it is getting worse because of the Mali video accelerator. It can produce 50-60 FPS only in simple and medium games, but heavy ones will have to be transferred to the minimum graphics settings in order not to watch the slideshow.

There are modifications for 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB. It is possible to expand the memory using a memory card up to 128 or 256 GB. Benchmarks are typical for a mid-range SoC. The Antutu 7 scores 90,000 points, which is more than the Snapdragon 625. Geekbench scores 929 in Single-Core and 3500 in Multi-Core. Tests and specifications show that this SOC will smoothly “roll over” the interface for one or two years without any problems, but there is no performance margin in it, especially the gaming one. The new processors in 2018 promise to be noticeably faster, so if speed is important to you, then the Kirin 659 is a reason to bypass the Huawei P Smart.

Battery

The phone has a 3000 mAh battery. It has support for Smart 6.0 function to manage and reduce power consumption. This battery regulation system is capable of providing a long service life. Huawei P Smart consumes only 15-20% charge in heavy games per hour. Video playback in HD resolution drains the battery from 100% to 0% in 7-8 hours. You will need to charge the battery once a day if you are not constantly playing. There is no fast charging.

Conclusion

Concluding the review of the Huawei P Smart smartphone, let's recall the price. At retailers the phone costs from 15,000 rubles, that is, it is a direct competitor to Honor 9 Lite. A strange trend is emerging when Huawei competes with its own products under the Honor brand, which almost do not differ in price.

Let's highlight the pros and cons of the gadget.

  • appearance;
  • sizes;
  • screen;
  • cameras;
  • fresh Android;
  • Overpriced P Smart in Russia;
  • gaming performance;
  • battery capacity would be great;
  • MicroUSB port;
  • hybrid microSD card slot.

The P Smart, which was released in 2018, should be considered a buy for those who value compactness, design, camera, and an elongated screen. This model from a top brand offers high quality hardware and build quality. You get a full-screen phone equipped with a dual camera and NFC, which is especially important with the proliferation of contactless payment methods. You shouldn't buy the P Smart for those who want to play heavy games.

Huawei is, without exaggeration, one of the best Chinese manufacturers, whose smartphones can easily compete with A-brands. This year, the firm is launching smartphones with an 18: 9 aspect ratio. Huawei P Smart is a mid-budget gadget that has decent hardware and cameras. You can find out how it turned out after reading the review.

Specifications:

  • display: 5.65 ", LTPS LCD FHD + 2160 * 1080 px (427 ppi);

Equipment

Huawei P Smart 32gb blue nfc comes in a stylish package made of thick cardboard, inside which there is a network adapter, a microUSB cable (yes, yes, in 2018 there are still manufacturers who continue to use this outdated format). The presence of headphones in the kit is good news, and besides, a film is already glued to the display from the factory. The package bundle turned out to be quite simple, but it contains everything that is necessary for the user.

Outwardly, Huawei P Smart is a fairly simple gadget that looks typical and cannot offer anything special compared to competitors. Its back is constructed of metal, with plastic inserts in the upper and lower parts. Of course, they are present for a reason, but improve the quality of communication reception. The dual main camera practically does not protrude above the surface of the body, and to protect the lenses, it is surrounded by plastic rims.

A fingerprint scanner is located closer to the center. It works quickly, there are practically no recognition errors. In addition to its main purpose, it opens up the ability to control gestures. So, with a swipe down, you can open the notification curtain, as well as take photos and flip through pictures in the gallery.

The display occupies 76.44% of the front panel, which is not much in the era of frameless devices, but far from the worst result. Only the corporate logo was placed under the screen, although, if desired, it would have been possible to install the navigation keys, there is plenty of room for them.

The right side is occupied by the power key and the volume rocker.

On the left is a hybrid tray, into which you can install two SIM cards or one, but in a compartment with microSD.

Below we see an external speaker, microphone and microUSB port in the center.

Smartphone Huawei P Smart 32 GB review acquaints with the fact that with the top was allocated space only for an additional microphone of the noise reduction system.

The case turned out to be quite compact. At 5.65-inches, it is more comparable to 5-inch devices. But it will be inconvenient to use one hand - it will be possible to reach the top edge of the display only by connecting the other hand.

Display

Huawei P Smart review goes to its 5.65-inch screen. This is a high-quality IPS-matrix with FullHD + resolution, which made it possible to obtain a high pixel density per inch - 427 ppi. Got a smartphone and a trendy 18: 9 aspect ratio. The stock of brightness of 510 cd / m2 is enough to work with it comfortably even in bright sun. The software shell allows you to change the screen resolution to HD +, gaining performance gains and better battery life. Also, the reduced resolution turns on automatically when no more than 15% of the charge remains.

Huawei P Smart 32gb review shows that by going to the settings menu, you can change the color reproduction for yourself. The viewing angles are maximum, no matter what angle you look at the screen, the picture remains readable.

Performance Huawei P Smart

Huawei P Smart black review showed what's in it uses a proprietary processor - Kirin 659, which is installed in solutions of the middle segment. It was also used in the successful Nova line. To process graphics in games, the Mali-T830 MP2 video chip is used, and 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of user memory complement the overall picture. In 2018, this volume may already be not enough, but alas, a separate slot for microSD is not provided. Consequently, to expand the memory capacity, you will have to abandon the second operator card.

The processor is made according to the 16-NM process technology and in its capabilities is comparable to the Snapdragon 625, which is popular in the middle price segment. But if everything is in order with the processor, then the graphics accelerator does not allow to fully realize its potential in games. Huawei P Smart specifications are comparable to Nova 2 and Mate 10 Lite. The only thing is that the RAM is 1 GB less. The interface works quickly and does not slow down, but the situation in games is highly dependent on the quality of optimization. For example, Asphalt Extreme is comfortable to play even on high graphics, and Tanks will be playable only on minimal settings.

Test in Antutu

Smartphone Huawei P Smart blue review revealed that about There is not always enough work, it is obvious that the EMUI shell, built on Android Oreo, still needs to be optimized. Sometimes, you exit the application, and the desktop is redrawn.

Wireless communications

Huawei P Smart 32gb review showed that there is an NFC chip in it, which is already pleasantly surprising when you take into account its cost. But Wi-Fi only works at 2.4 GHz. There is Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, GLONASS, everything works flawlessly.

Sound

There is no stereo sound effect in Huawei P Smart, but nevertheless there is enough volume reserve, and the sound itself is of high quality. It cannot be completely muffled, even if covered with a palm. Noise cancellation works perfectly - the interlocutors hear each other well, even in windy weather.

Autonomy

The Huawei P Smart has a standard 3,000mAh battery with no fast charging technology. This is a huge disadvantage, because we have already lost the habit of waiting for a full charge of the phone for hours. With an active use scenario, autonomy is enough for a day with 4-5 hours of display activity.

Huawei P Smart cameras

The Huawei P Smart camera review informs that a dual module of 13 megapixels and 2 megapixels is used as the main one. The additional one is used only when creating pictures with the bokeh effect, otherwise it makes no sense, which is not surprising at such a modest resolution. There is no optical stabilization. You can only get good pictures in bright daylight or artificial light. This is due to the fact that the model has a weak aperture of f / 2.2.

Huawei P Smart looks cute, but not very original. Externally (and not only) it is almost a copy of the Honor 7X and.

In front it is almost indistinguishable from any other "frameless", except that in some cases the inscription Honor flaunts under the frame. There is nothing more to note here, except for the elongated screen, curved at the edges and with rather wide frames around it.

The rear panel repeats the Honor 7X, with minor cosmetic differences: the flash moved to the other side, the company logo appeared and the antenna inserts moved a little further from the edges of the case. Otherwise, it's the same - the same slightly protruding cameras that resemble eyes and a round fingerprint scanner.

The dimensions of the novelty are 152 × 70 × 7.45 mm, and the weight is 143 grams. The smartphone is the same size as the Honor 9 Lite. The main body materials are metal.

Huawei P Smart will be available in gold, blue and black body colors.

Screen

Huawei P Smart follows the trends and is equipped with an 18: 9 (or 2 to 1) screen with a diagonal of 5.65 inches and Full HD + resolution (2160 × 1080 pixels). The picture on it will be clear, after all, 427 pixels per inch. It is claimed that the display occupies 76% of the front surface of the phone, not bad, but in the same Galaxy S8 this figure is almost 84%.

Cameras

Huawei P Smart has two cameras on the back (13 MP and 2 MP) and one 8 MP front camera. One of the rear sensors is responsible for the actual shooting, and the second collects information about the depth of the frame, allowing you to shoot with blur, in a manner. At the same time, the main camera has a relatively narrow aperture (f / 2.2), and the sensor is slightly larger than average (1 / 2.8 ’).

The front camera with a resolution of 8 MP and an aperture of f / 2.0 can shoot with a beautification function, determines the "type of face" and tries to guess the age of the person. Selfies can be taken using hand gestures. Interesting, but it has been used for a long time in.

Communications

Smartphone communications are quite typical for their level:

  • "Simple" Wi-Fi b / g / n
  • support for LTE Cat. 4
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • NFC chip
  • A-GPS.

Everything is quite typical, only the NFC chip stands out, which is lacking in many similar models. Some people won't like the old micro-USB 2.0 port (but with USB-Host). The phone works with two SIM-cards, however, the slot for the second is a combined one.

Battery

The manufacturer promises that Huawei P Smart will keep quiet throughout the day.

The smartphone is equipped with a 3000 mAh battery. This is a typical figure, about the same for the Honor 9 Lite. It is also stated that the smartphone monitors energy consumption and closes gluttonous background processes.

Performance

The performance of the Huawei P Smart will be average. The smartphone has an 8-core Kirin 659 processor (4 cores with a frequency of 2.36 GHz and 4 with a frequency of 1.7 GHz), and 3 GB of RAM, which will help to process large amounts of information and work in multitasking mode. True, there is not the most advanced graphics of the Mali-T830 MP2, but it is quite enough for most games, albeit sometimes with limitations.

Peculiarities

Huawei P Smart comes out on the new Android 8 and runs the proprietary EMUI 8.0 interface. The latter can be called an interesting feature of the smartphone. The manufacturer promises background file system cleaning technology, energy saving technologies, one-touch split screen function and so on. In addition, features include a fashionable elongated screen, a dual main camera and the presence of an NFC chip.

Memory

The built-in storage in Huawei P Smart received a capacity of 32 GB, as well as support for microSD cards up to 256 GB. Not bad, it will allow you to store a lot of photos and music.

Price

The start of sales of the Huawei P Smart phone is scheduled for February 12. The recommended retail price is 14,990 rubles.

Introduction

Frankly speaking, Huawei surprised me a little with the release of the P Smart device (in China - Enjoy 7s). Firstly, the name of the device is non-standard for the company: gadgets with P indices are sold in Russia, but a number is added to them, and it is easy to understand from it what kind of positioning the model has. Moreover, Huawei has Nova series gadgets. Theoretically, P Smart could be attributed to it, but the names Nova 2, Nova 2 Plus, Nova Lite and even Nova 2i are already taken there.

Secondly, Huawei has several almost identical smartphones, in which even the observer will get confused: Nova 2i, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X, not counting analogs with an aspect ratio of 16: 9.

Thirdly, Huawei P Smart is presented on the official website, but the cost has not been announced for the Russian market.

It seems to me that the P Smart acts as a "brother" of the Nova 2i with a smaller screen diagonal, but with an NFC chip. In general, there is a leapfrog: the smartphone is similar to the Honor 7X, but in terms of name and characteristics it is closer to the P line.

The cost of a smartphone is 15,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, controls

The appearance of the device, as I already wrote, resembles the device Nova 7X. The differences are minimal. The design is extremely familiar and calm.

Almost the entire front side is occupied by the screen, on the back side there is a metal cover with two plastic inserts at the top and bottom. This time the cameras were neatly “wrapped” in rims with sloping corners, the “islands” of lenses will not cling to clothing.

The dimensions of the P Smart are 150 x 72 x 7.45 mm and the weight is 143 grams, while the Honor 7X is 156.5x75.3x7.6 mm and 163 grams (an increase in weight and dimensions due to a larger diagonal). The Smart fits perfectly in the hand: small width, light weight, smoothed corners, smooth body contours. After Apple iPhone 8 Plus (my main phone), P Smart is simply the best solution in terms of ergonomics :)

The smartphone is equipped with 2.5D glass (there is no information about the manufacturer), so swipe movements are pleasant to do. There is an oleophobic coating, high quality. During the test, the screen was not damaged, but there were scratches on the back metal cover.

As for the colors, there are three of them: black, blue and gold. The latter looks more like silver, especially in low light conditions. Black, I think, will be extremely easily soiled. The plastic inserts are slightly different in color from the lid - a darker shade.

On top of the front of the device there is a camera, sensors, an event indicator (dim, almost invisible) and a speech speaker. The sound of the speaker is loud, clear, clear, the timbre is shifted closer to high frequencies.

At the bottom there are the following elements: a standard headphone-out, a microphone, an outdated microUSB connector and a speakerphone. On the right is the power button and volume control. On the left is a combo slot for 2xnanoSIM and microSD. On the top there is another noise canceling microphone.

On the reverse side, on the top left, there are two large lenses with chrome rims, to the right is a flash. A fingerprint sensor is located just below.

Display

This device uses a 5.65-inch screen. Physical size - 64x128 mm. There is an anti-reflective coating, which is quite effective.

The P Smart display resolution from Huawei is FullHD +, that is, 1080x2160 pixels, the aspect ratio is 18: 9 (2: 1), and the density is 427 ppi. IPS matrix without on-cell air gap.

The viewing angles of the screen are maximum, no distortion. Brightness (white / black) - 400 / 0.5 cd / m2, contrast - 800: 1. Surprisingly, the P Smart's matrix is almost perfectly calibrated, even the received data matches the sRGB triangle!

In the settings there is an item with a color temperature. The eye protection function works: you can select not only the on and off time, but also the intensity.

A resolution selection item has appeared (Honor 9 Lite has the same mode):

  • Smart Resolution
  • FullHD +

Apparently, in this way it is possible to influence the speed of the device and the "life" of the battery.

Battery

The smartphone uses a 3000 mAh non-removable lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery. A typical enough battery for such gadgets. Frankly, you can already calculate in advance the average values of the smartphone: about a day with the maximum amount of screen glowing 3-4 hours, about 7 hours of HD video (MP4) at 100% brightness of the matrix backlight and 3.5 hours under the load of 3D toys (Marvell Contest of Champions).

Communication capabilities

As usual, the smartphone supports two SIM cards. However, one slot may be occupied by a memory card. The Huawei P Smart device "understands" LTE Cat 4 in the 1/3/7/8/20 band range.

Notable is the presence of an NFC chip (but without Mifare Classic and Mifare Ultralight), which is rarely found in such gadgets. There are also no complaints about GPS and GLONASS - everything works like a clock. In the presence of a typical set of "drummer": Wi-Fi without ac and dual bands, Bluetooth version 4.2, USB version 2.0 with "host".

Memory and memory card

The RAM is 3 GB of RAM, and the built-in memory is 32 GB (about 20 GB is available). The RAM is fast enough - about 5000 MB / s, but the usual Flash - 196/103 MB / s. Supported memory cards up to 256 GB, but only instead of one of the SIM cards.

Cameras

In 2018, almost all smartphones will come with two camera modules. This trend can already be considered a standard, like one camera in any smartphone. The Huawei P Smart has two main cameras: one takes regular 13 MP (f / 2.0) shots, and the other is used to create a digital bokeh effect. You cannot take pictures with the additional module, unlike, for example, Huawei P10.

The quality of photos is traditionally at a high level. I already wrote that I do not see any difference between the frames taken with Honor 7X, Nova 2, Nova 2i, Honor 9 Lite and other Huawei devices. Even if there is a difference, it is minimal, and the average user will not notice it.

"Frontalka" is of high quality, no complaints.

P Smart usually shoots video for all devices that save videos in FullHD resolution.

Sample photos

Performance and software

In Huawei P Smart we again meet a chipset of our own production - HiSilicon Kirin 659: 16 nm, 64-bit, 8-core, 4xCortex-A53 2.36 GHz + 4xCortex-A53 1.7 GHz. The device does not slow down at all, does not freeze, does not glitch. It is a pleasure to use the system.

Huawei has decided to introduce several smartphones this year that are similar in many ways. This also applies to the Huawei P Smart phone, which at first glance is a clone of the Honor 9 Lite and refers to the Huawei Mate 10 Lite, P20 Lite and Honor 7X. It's not about the style itself, but about the characteristics, they are almost identical in each of the devices mentioned.

How does P Smart work in normal use? Should I pay attention to him? I will try to answer these questions in a review.

Huawei P Smart specifications out of the box

The P Smart packaging itself does not stand out in any way. It is made of thick cardboard and is completely white. On the front panel you will find only the manufacturer's logo and the device model. The most important information is shown on the back. As always with Huawei smartphones, all the attention is paid to the details. In addition to the phone, the bundle includes a charger with a removable USB cable, a key to eject the SIM card tray and a headset.

As for the specs of the Huawei P Smart, we have a 5.65-inch IPS display with Full HD + resolution and 18: 9 aspect ratio. Its heart is a HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core processor with a Mali-T830 MP2 graphics chip. It all works with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 256GB.

The smartphone has a dual main camera with 12-MP + 2-MP lenses and an 8-MP front camera. Communication in the device is provided by: single-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, Glonass and microUSB 2.0 with USB OTG support, there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Huawei's P Smart runs Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. The gadget measures 150.1 x 72.1 x 7.5 mm and weighs 143 grams.

Build and design

The Huawei P Smart looks more like the P9 Lite Mini than the Honor 9 Lite. The tested smartphone is not surprising in appearance and does not stand out from the competition. It's a beautiful device with a slightly boring design. Its back panel is made of metal, with plastic inserts and metallized stripes.

The P Smart's body is susceptible to fingerprints, which are very visible. Especially on the black version, which I had the opportunity to try out. A similar scenario occurs when we have a slightly sweaty hand, many stripes appear on the body. It is enough, however, to rub a little with a cloth to get rid of them.

I do not like camera lenses that protrude from the body, but I was not able to accidentally scratch them during testing. The display is of course surrounded by relatively narrow bezels. After my tests, a few scratches appeared on the screen, but in fact they are microscopic, and are only visible under light - at right angles.

The slightly curved side edges allow the smartphone to fit very well in the hand. This is also positively influenced by the fact that the back panel is rounded, thanks to which the P Smart fits very well into the hand. It is important to note that I did not have a problem with holding the device, but I do not recommend neglecting this, because the case is quite slippery here, and the phone can slip out instantly. The build quality is good - everything is well matched, does not creak or bend under the fingers.

Let's move on to the location of the buttons, ports and connectors. Above the display you'll find a front camera lens, a set of sensors, an earpiece and a notification diode. The manufacturer has placed only its own logo under the screen. On the back, we have two cameras, an LED, a fingerprint reader, the Huawei logo, as well as several lettering and trademarks.

As for the edges, on the right we have volume buttons and a toggle switch. On the left side is a hybrid SIM and memory card slot. On the top edge there is only a microphone, while at the bottom there is a microUSB port, microphone, multimedia speaker and 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Smartphone screen

The Huawei P Smart phone is equipped with a 5.65-inch FullView IPS display. It is characterized by an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a Full HD + resolution, which gives a pixel density of about 427 dpi. The displayed content is characterized by very good sharpness and readability. Even at close range, you won't see jagged edges on the icons.

When it comes to setting content at an 18: 9 aspect ratio, this is not a problem - most programs automatically scale, while others can be done manually. As I already mentioned, here is an IPS panel, which is characterized by rich colors, good viewing angles and pleasant contrast.

Decent in P Smart and maximum brightness, which makes it comfortable to use the device in the sun. The minimum brightness is so low here that it does not strain your eyes when using the screen at night. Alternatively, we can turn on a blue light filter. There is a light sensor, thanks to which the brightness of the display can be controlled automatically.

In the screen settings, we can change the mode (small / medium / large) and the font size (small / normal / large / very large / huge). We also have the ability to change the color temperature. Huawei has added the ability to downgrade to HD + and a smart resolution feature that automatically downsamples the display to save power.

Huawei P Smart cameras

Huawei P Smart received a dual main camera. One lens with a 13MP sensor and f / 2.2 aperture, the other at 2MP. The additional lens is aimed at collecting depth information, thanks to which we can get a well-blurred background, as well as an interesting bokeh effect.

The camera application here is no different from what can be found in other models of the manufacturer. Movement along it is carried out by moving between the right and left screens. Swiping to the left gives access to all modes: Photo, Professional Photo, Video, Professional Video, AR, HDR, Panorama, Timed, Filter, and Watermark. Moving to the right allows you to see the camera settings. Huawei's software is simple, transparent and really convenient to use.

Photo quality

It is impossible to find fault with the quality of photos from P Smart cameras taken in good lighting. The shots are characterized by good detail and satisfactory color reproduction, although sometimes they fade a little in my opinion. However, when it comes to photos taken after dark, things look much worse.

In poor conditions, noise is visible, and detail drops significantly. Autofocus works very well, although after dark there are problems with the sharpness of the image, and the shooting time increases. As I mentioned, the second lens helps to achieve a blurry effect, I must admit that it works quite well. The bokeh effect is clearly visible in the pictures, the function beautifully "cuts" the foreground from the second.

Front camera and video recording

The front camera of the Huawei P Smart features an 8MP resolution. The quality it gives out is not bad, but it is more suitable for social networks.

Videos can be recorded at maximum Full HD resolution and 30 frames per second. In addition to the aforementioned Full HD, we can also select one of the lower resolutions - HD, VGA, QVGA and MMS message format. The quality of the footage is average.

The fingerprint scanner

The fingerprint scanner of Huawei P Smart is placed on the back, just below the level of the index finger, after gripping the device, our finger naturally rests on it. You can always get it, no matter where your hands are. The scanner is placed in a recess so it is easy to find. However, the mentioned location will not be to everyone's liking, because while the smartphone is placed in a holder or lying on a table, the reader is not available.

The big plus is that the scanner is always active, which means that you don't need to wake up the screen to use it. It works instantly, accurately and without any problems. Moreover, our print is read correctly regardless of the angle. The reader can also be used to take pictures, view photos in the gallery and turn off the alarm. Using the scanner, you can block access to selected applications.

Face recognition

This type of security is increasingly found in modern smartphones. The solution is the most convenient and fastest, but the least secure. It is worth noting that I was unable to unlock the gadget using a photo during testing. Face detection in P Smart works very well regardless of lighting conditions - always under good conditions.

Face recognition after dark is not very good - after taking the phone in your hand, the screen lights up with the strongest backlight, thanks to which our face is illuminated and the camera can recognize it.

Software

Smartphone Huawei P Smart runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS with EMUI 8.0 shell. The interface is functional and pleasing to the eye, although many might not like the fact that this is far from pure Android.

EMUI provides many options for personalization - a choice of themes, wallpapers and icons. It is packed with a lot of features that are very useful.

Performance and benchmarks

The HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor is responsible for the operation of Huawei P Smart, it consists of four Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 2.36 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 1.70 GHz. Added to this is a Mali-T830 MP2 graphics chip and 3GB of RAM.

It is worth mentioning that the processor used here can be found in models such as: Huawei Mate 10 Lite, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 7X and P20 Lite. These devices, in terms of performance, performed very well, but for some reason the P Smart did not behave so well.

Compared to other models of this price shelf, there is a significant drop in liquidity here. Regular applications start after a few (more) seconds, and switching between them does not look very smooth. Also worth mentioning is multitasking, which is terrible here. During the tests, I also had errors in the form of unclosed applications or lack of their answers.

P Smart does not work well with demanding games, but with such games as Real Racing 3 or Asphalt 8 Airborne, there are no problems at lower graphics settings. I noticed that the smartphone likes to get warm during longer games or more demanding activities. But, it is not a temperature that will negatively affect the comfort of use.

Sound quality

A single multimedia speaker on the bottom edge is a very common solution in budget smartphones. By holding the Huawei P Smart in a panoramic position while playing music or watching videos, it is very easy to cover it with the inside of your hand.

The sound quality of the P Smart is not bad, but it lacks perfection both in terms of clarity and maximum volume. A 3.5mm audio jack can be found on the bottom edge of the device. The sound quality in the headphones is completely satisfactory - I have no objection here.

Connections and communication

There are no shortcomings in the tested model in terms of connectivity, however, slight restrictions can be made for the Wi-Fi module, which is single-band (2.4 GHz). I appreciate its work positively, it works even at a considerable distance from the router.

The Bluetooth 4.1 connection did not give me any problems, as well as the Bluetooth 4.2 connection, which works with additional accessories. The P Smart has NFC, which was missing on the more expensive Mate 10 Lite. Navigation during the entire testing period was also at an altitude - the signal and satellites were caught very quickly. The range of the cellular network, as well as the quality of the negotiations, are also quite good here - the interlocutors heard me loudly and clearly, I also had no problems understanding people on the other side.

Huawei P Smart has a hybrid SIM slot, thanks to which we can use two SIM cards (nanoSIM + nanoSIM) or microSD + nanoSIM. The smartphone is equipped with 32 GB of internal memory, of which about 25 GB remains available for user data. The memory can be further expanded using a microSD card.

Huawei P Smart battery and autonomy

The inexpensive Huawei P Smart is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery. This is not surprising, but the working time achieved by the model is good. During typical use: instant messengers, Instagram, Spotify and several other applications, the smartphone lasts about 3.5-4.5 hours on the screen, which in practice gives about 1.5 days of work per charge.

However, when we use the smartphone periodically and on the same Wi-Fi, the time on the screen will be 5-6 hours. It's already about two days of work, in the hands of less demanding users.

Outcome

The Huawei P Smart is a relatively interesting mid-range smartphone. However, like everyone else, it has several disadvantages that negatively affect its assessment. The P Smart's advantage is its 18: 9 aspect ratio display. You also won't be disappointed with the working time, because it's not bad for a mid-range device. The external interface of EMUI 8.0 looks elegant, there is NFC.

Unfortunately, a few shortcomings of Huawei's P Smart (for me) proved to be significant. First of all, these are outdated communication modules, big liquidity problems, and long charging times. Cameras here do not stand out from competitors.

In conclusion, I cannot write that the Huawei P Smart is a bad phone. However, the disadvantages that this model has do not allow me to recommend it with a clear conscience. What do you think of the P Smart?
