In addition to a cable for connecting to a PC and a charger, it comes with a mediocre wired headset and five interchangeable panels in the following colors: blue, red, orange, black and white. Note that the red, orange and white panels are made of glossy plastic, and the black and blue are made of matte. In order to remove the back cover, you need to pry it off the microUSB connector.

Dimensions - 4.7

We compared the dimensions of the Omega Prime Mini with other compact smartphones with a diagonal of 4.3 inches, and we can note that the Prime Mini is not only not inferior to the Mini versions of the flagships of well-known companies (Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini), but according to some criteria even surpasses them. For example, this smartphone is 7.8mm thick, while the Galaxy S4 Mini is 9.25mm and the One Mini is 8.94mm. As for the weight of the Omega Prime Mini, it is the same as that of the S4 Mini (107 grams), but the HTC One Mini (apparently due to the aluminum case) is slightly heavier (122 grams). The main material used in Prime Mini is matte or glossy (depending on the choice of the rear panel) plastic. There are almost no fingerprints on the first one, but the glossy panels are quickly covered with them. Due to this difference, we recommend that you use matte panels (blue and black) as they are more practical.

Screen - 3.6

Display diagonal - 4.3 inches, screen resolution - 960 × 540 pixels, matrix type - IPS. This screen uses OGS technology (one-glass-solution) - that is, there is no air gap between the screen and the protective glass. This solution allows you to improve the quality of the image, make the picture visually closer to the user. The screen has maximum viewing angles, a good level of brightness, excellent picture clarity and natural colors. We tested the Prime Mini's display in sunny and semi-dark conditions. In the first case, the display almost completely “blinds”, and in the second, the minimum brightness level was enough for comfortable reading. In general, the model's screen left a positive impression, it has good viewing angles, a clear picture and natural color reproduction. We consider the lack of an oleophobic coating to be the main drawback; when using gestures, the finger often gets stuck, and the screen itself is harder to wipe off from fingerprints and dirt. We also note that small fonts do not look clear enough, this is the consequences of not having the highest resolution.

Camera

The smartphone has an 8 MP camera with LED flash. The maximum resolution for video recording is 1280 × 720 pixels, the recording speed is 25 frames per second, the sound is recorded in mono mode. The quality of the camera is low, it will suit only the most undemanding users. Considering Prime Mini as a replacement for the camera is clearly not worth it.

Working with text - 5.0

The manufacturer did not preinstall its own keyboard, but decided to leave the built-in keyboard from Google. This solution has both pros and cons. Of the pluses, we note the convenient location of the keys, the ability to quickly dial numbers by holding the key, as well as support for input with gestures (Swype). The key drawback, in our opinion, is the very meager dictionary in the keyboard, it does not know most Russian words, so if you make a mistake when entering, then you should not count on the keyboard to automatically correct the typo. Thanks to the size of the Prime Mini, you can type text with one hand, with most smartphones, due to their size, this is no longer very convenient.

Internet - 1.0

As in the case of the keyboard, the manufacturer did not replace the built-in browser with its own. Specifically, in this case, we do not see any problems in such a solution, since the standard browser from Android 4.0 is one of the best in terms of ease of use and speed. The browser supports auto-fit text to fit the screen, for this, after increasing the text, you need to double-click on the screen, and the text will automatically adjust, this is a very convenient option. But there is no separate reading mode, and this is a minus.

Interfaces

The smartphone has the following interfaces: Wi-Fi (b/g/n) (no support for dual-band Wi-Fi), Bluetooth and GPS. But NFC and LTE are missing.

Multimedia - 1.0

We tried to play various video files on the Omega Prime Mini: the smartphone supports only the most common formats and codecs, the player plays videos in high quality, up to 720p. There is no support for rare formats, there is also no choice of subtitles and audio tracks. The audio player in the smartphone plays only popular MP3, AAC, WAV formats. In our opinion, using Prime Mini as a compact video player is not very convenient.

Working hours

The smartphone has a non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1600 mAh. By modern standards, these are rather modest numbers, in the same Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the battery capacity is 1900 mAh. The results of our tests are as follows: when watching HD video at maximum brightness, the device is discharged in 3 hours (6 hours for the Galaxy S4 Mini), while listening to music - in 24 hours (35 hours for the Galaxy S4 Mini).

Performance - 1.5

The device uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8225Q platform with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, Adreno 203 graphics subsystem, 1 GB of RAM. We compared the power of this chipset with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 and can note that the "400" is significantly faster both in everyday work and in games. In our opinion, speed is not the Omega Prime Mini's strong point. From time to time, you may experience slowdowns when scrolling through pages on desktops, as well as when scrolling text in a browser. It is important to note that the use of such a chipset is due to the desire to set a lower final price for a smartphone. We do not recommend considering Prime Mini as a gaming smartphone.

Memory - 5.0

The amount of built-in memory in the Omega Prime Mini is 4 GB, it is completely inaccessible to the user. To be honest, before testing Highscreen smartphones, we have not seen models that would completely abandon the internal memory available to the user. The obvious disadvantage of this solution is the need to purchase a separate memory card. However, there is a plus - usually in budget models they save a lot on internal memory, which is why you cannot install a large number of games (their cache takes up a fair amount of memory and is written only to internal memory). In Omega Prime Mini (and some other Highscreen smartphones), the memory card is recognized as internal memory, and the cache of third-party games and applications is automatically written to it. Separately, we note that the smartphone supports cards up to 32 GB.

Peculiarities

The main features of Omega Prime Mini are the presence of five interchangeable panels in the kit at once, as well as compact dimensions. Otherwise, we have a typical Android smartphone. We also note the device's support for working with two SIM-cards at once. However, due to the use of only one radio module, during a conversation on one SIM card, the second one becomes inaccessible.

Mini versions of powerful smartphones with large screens are a popular trend. For manufacturers, this is an opportunity to expand the range, to offer something that looks almost the same, but simpler and cheaper. True, devices such as the Galaxy S 4 mini do not shine with success in sales. The problem, obviously, is that their specs are cut down compared to flagships, and prices aren't that low. The exception is the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact - all the same powerful specifications in a compact body: for those who do not tolerate compromises and do not like "shovels". The device went on sale relatively recently and has already gained considerable popularity, not least due to its adequate cost.

It's not entirely correct to compare A-brands to Highscreen, but this company has gone down a similar path. The motley line has three smartphones under the “transformer” name Omega Prime. True, they are far from the flagship characteristics - rather a budget class. The original Omega Prime has a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 960x540, the Omega Prime XL has a 5.3-inch screen with the same resolution, and the Omega Prime mini has a 4.3-inch screen. Otherwise, the hardware of the devices is almost the same - a 4-core Qualcomm MSM8225 processor with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of flash memory, a slot for memory cards, support for two SIM cards, 8 MP camera. Only the battery capacities are different, in XL, which is expected, the most "tenacious" is 2800 mAh.

At the same time, outwardly, the usual Omega Prime and the "shoveled" are twin brothers. But the mini-version only refers to the series by name, and outwardly a completely different phone (not surprising, given that the company itself does not develop devices, but brands “blanks” from Asia). Well, well, the device will turn out pretty.

Set

In Russia, Highscreen Omega Prime mini was also promoted under the name "smartphone-week" and actively posted all sorts of "viral" pictures on the network. And all because the kit comes with 5 interchangeable back panels.

PR people are definitely burning, and I don’t even know how else to comment on it

In addition to interchangeable panels, everything is as usual in the kit - cable, charger, warranty, brief instructions, simple headphones.

Design

Usually, all Chinese smartphones are similar to each other and do not stand out in any way in terms of design. But there are exceptions. Highscreen Omega Prime mini turned out to be nice - it's nice to take it in your hands. The device is very thin, has smoothly rounded corners and a streamlined back panel. This is not a "shovel" - Prime mini looks tiny and neat.

The entire front panel of the phone is occupied by protective glass, the bezels at the edges of the screen are minimal and invisible if the display is turned off.

The touch keys are located under the display, they are also invisible. They are designated non-standard - in the form of a circle Home and two dots. At first, I was confused about which point is "back" and which is "menu". But this is a matter of habit, of course. The backlighting of the keys is bright, even excessive in the dark. If there are missed notifications, the center button flashes.

The phone comes with a factory protective film on the screen. I do not mean the one that usually prints information about the phone. This is a full-fledged protection, earlier such films were found on Sony Ericsson phones. Convenient - no need to bathe with the choice of a suitable one, no need to paste jewelry, scuffs and scratches on the screen are not terrible. True, I removed this film for the purpose of testing (it turned out to be quite dense). I can say that without it, fingerprints are less noticeable and color reproduction is better. There were no scratches on the screen during the test.

All the keys on the case are located well. Turning on / blocking falls directly under the thumb of the right hand. The buttons move clearly, they protrude enough above the case.

The back panel is "one-piece" with sidewalls. There are no grooves on the case for which one could catch, but it is easy to remove the cover - just pry with your fingernail from any edge. It is conceived that the color of the phone can be changed at least every day. Despite this, the panels hold firmly in place, there are no backlashes or creaks in my copy.

The phone comes with 5 back covers - black, white, blue, orange and red. At the same time, red and orange are glossy, the rest are matte.

Personally, I liked the blue version - well, a very nice color. The rest are good though.

Matte covers, in my opinion, are much better than glossy ones - they do not get smudged with fingerprints, do not slip in the palm of your hand.

The ability to change the color of the phone is a cool feature. I would not refuse a few more shades - yellow, green, for example. Or multi-color options.

Under the cover, in addition to two microSIM slots (standard - the first one works with 3G, the second one does not) and a microSD slot, there is also a battery that looks removable. However, it has a large sticker stating that the battery is not replaceable. Probably, you will understand me - I immediately wanted to pick out the battery! I tried to gently pull on myself - really non-removable :-).

By the way, in my copy of Omega Prime mini, the warning sticker blocked the SIM slots, I had to tear it off.

In general, I once again praise the appearance and ergonomics of the device. The phone is light, thin, compact, streamlined. In the hand lies perfectly, especially after a long communication with the "shovel". Fits in any pocket and does not delay it, it's not scary to drop it out of your pocket. Easily operated with one hand, no need to strain, reaching for distant interface elements.

Screen

Recently, I have no serious complaints about the screens of Highscreen phones - high-quality components are used. Omega Prime mini boasts a 4.3-inch IPS display. Colors are vibrant yet natural, and black depth is decent.

Viewing angles are good, however, at a certain angle, the brightness disappears and the black goes into blue.

Since we have an inexpensive device, the screen does not differ in high resolution - only 960x540 pixels. However, with a diagonal of 4.3 inches, this is enough, graininess is not striking. Of course, if you pay attention to the fonts, they are far from being as smooth as I'm used to using FullHD smartphones.

The maximum brightness level is high, but I can’t say anything about the behavior in the sun - the sun rarely indulges us in St. Petersburg in winter. The minimum level is comfortable in low light - it does not blind your eyes. Auto-brightness works flawlessly, in a wide range.

In the screen settings, you can choose either fixed or dynamic brightness. In the second case, they promise better color reproduction and battery savings when watching a video.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel camera and shoots very well for its price. High definition, natural shades, good detail, nice macro. Autofocus works great and is relatively fast. The white balance is sometimes wrong, especially under artificial lighting (a green tint appears). Great pictures are obtained even at dusk. Of course, there is digital noise and fuzziness, but in general the sensor pulls out a sufficient amount of light. Blurring may sometimes appear when shooting moving subjects.

Even the HDR mode is decent. In those "Chinese" that I came across earlier, there was no effect from it. And in Omega Prime mini, everything is as intended - evens out colors in difficult lighting conditions, gets rid of too dark.

The lens is wide-angle, it fits a lot in the frame without the need to move away.

In general, I personally am satisfied with the camera. Of course, the Omega Prime mini is not up to what flagship smartphones give out, but in general it is a great option for every day.

The phone is equipped with a flash, it is bright, "beats" one and a half to two meters.

As for the video recording - the quality is very low. When you move the viewfinder, strong noise appears - the picture breaks into squares. Tracking autofocus is constantly trying to adjust the clarity, "blurring" the image. The sound quality is low.

The maximum video resolution is 720p. True, for some reason the weakest parameter is set in the phone by default - 320x240 pixels. When 1280x720 is selected, the viewfinder area narrows, black stripes appear at the edges.

In general, I have already met this camera interface more than once in "Chinese phones". I do not like it because a third of the screen is occupied by controls on a huge gray bar. There is not much room for the viewfinder.

Switching between modes (photo, video, panorama) is not particularly convenient. Those settings that are in quick access (flash, white balance, exposure, photo modes) are clear, but the main list is somehow shrunk in size, the names of the items are long, scroll, and dazzle in the eyes. Well, the parameters are not offered in the form of drop-down lists, but they must be switched by clicking on the small arrows. Yes, and with the translation there are problems, but this is expected.

By the way, if you are wondering what ZSL is, then we are talking about the Zero Shutter Lag option (shooting without delay), I did not observe the effect of turning it on.

The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels, the quality of photos and videos is average.

Software part

Highscreen Omega Prime mini runs on Android 4.1.2. Not the latest version, but not critical.

An update is unlikely, as Qualcomm does not plan to release a corresponding OS build for the MSM8225Q chipset. Android is used almost "naked" - there are minor "tweaks" of the interface. These are, in particular, settings for working with two SIMs, the ability to quickly enable various functions directly from the status bar, "colored" settings icons and an address book.

In the call list, you can filter different types of calls using icons. There is a settings section for developers, where there are a lot of different options.

The SMS exchange interface is rather "clumsy", an icon has been added for quick selection of templates.

By the way, the other two "omega primes" use a slightly different interface, there is more Android customization. Which once again tells us that the "week" only formally got into the lineup.

There are few pre-installed software. In particular, the 4sync cloud service client. When registering from a Highscreen device, you will receive 20 GB of disk space instead of the standard 15 GB, after which you will be prompted to automatically upload your photos and videos to the “cloud”.

There is also a file manager, FM radio, an equalizer, a primitive video player.

There is a program "Clock", which displays the time. By tapping on the screen, you can greatly dim the brightness and thus use your smartphone as a desktop clock at night. There are applications to search in the phone or on the network, to update the system.

Working with two SIM

Like all dualsims, Prime mini shows the names of two operators on the lock screen and in the status bar, two indicators of network reception, and when making calls, in the call log, SMS always indicates the number of the SIM used in large numbers. All communication-related settings have two tabs. In the call list, you can filter entries by a specific SIM.

There are no two call keys in the dialer. The phone always asks which network to use. In the settings, you can select the default card for calls. There are two send keys in the message interface.

In the “SIM card settings” section, you can turn off one of them, as well as set the default card for calls and the Internet. In the “Sound” section, it is proposed to choose your own ringtone for each “sim card” (only for voice calls).

As is usually the case with Chinese dualsims, the radio module is the only one, so that during a conversation on the first SIM card, the second one will not be available. Once again, I note that only the first slot supports 3G networks.

Hardware

Omega Prime mini is based on Qualcomm's MSM8225Q chipset. There are 4 ARM Cortex-A5 cores at 1200 MHz. The graphics module is Adreno 203. 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of flash memory are available (about 2.7 GB are free for installing applications). Of course, this is not much, so there is a slot for microSD.

According to benchmarks, Prime mini is an outsider, MSM8225Q turned out to be not the most successful platform.

But benchmarks are benchmarks, and in everyday life the smartphone seems to be quite fast. Of course, not at the level of flagships: the software does not start very quickly, interface twitches occur, with a resource-demanding task in the background (downloading and installing a "heavy" application from the Market, for example), everything starts to hellishly slow down. Video in HD format is played without problems (at a low bitrate), FullHD already "lags". Of course, this is not a gaming device before us, many powerful 3D games take a long time to launch and not with the best graphics, they go in jerks. And many without a memory card do not start at all, because they still download "heavy" additional files, and the Highscreen has little memory. But, I repeat, for ordinary tasks (calls, Internet, reading, music, games like “birdies”), the performance of mini is more than enough.

Among other characteristics of the smartphone, I note support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB (the phone works as a removable disk and as a modem for a PC), GPS (no complaints about the speed and accuracy of determining coordinates).

The sound quality of the Omega Prime mini is good. If anything, I'm not a music lover, but the sound in the headphones did not jar me in any way. The volume margin is good. The ringtone can really be heard even in a noisy environment, the speaker does not wheeze. Since the speaker holes are located on the back of the phone, there are tiny bumps above them. When the Omega Prime mini is placed on a table, the volume of the ring tone is slightly reduced. The speech of the interlocutor is transmitted perfectly, the person listening to me at the other end of the "wire" also has no problems. Vibrating in your pocket feels good.

Battery

Of the entire family of "omega primes", the mini has the weakest battery - 1600 mAh. At the same time, a low-resolution screen, but a rather "gluttonous" Qualcomm platform. If you talk on the phone for about half an hour a day, go online from time to time (an hour in total), listen to music for about an hour, watch videos, read or work with software for about an hour, then the device will last for a day. If you use the device more actively, it will start to discharge even before the end of the working day (on average, it lasts 6 hours when the screen is turned on at medium brightness). If you pick up the phone only for infrequent short calls and occasionally look at the Internet, then the battery can last for a couple of days.

And that's all, by the way, when using one SIM. With two, autonomy will decrease by another 10-15 percent.

Considering that the battery of the phone is non-removable, it will be useful to get an external battery.

Conclusions and competitors

At a cost of 7500 rubles, the Highscreen Omega Prime mini is an attractive device. It is light, thin, elegant, pleasant to hold in the hand. The interface works quickly, the camera takes good photos. And five panels of cheerful colors in the kit are a huge plus for the device. There are no analogues in this regard for Prime mini on the market. I think girls will especially like the phone. But also for men, especially those who are looking for something "non-shoveled".

Among the significant disadvantages, I would note only a non-removable low-capacity battery. Otherwise, the device is worthy for its money.

Competitors will not be considered in detail. If you close your eyes to the interchangeable panels, then there are a dime a dozen similar Chinese "Googlephones", you can't list everything. Of the most similar to the hero of our review, we can name Philips Xenium W6500, Huawei G525, Acer Liquid E2 Duo, Alcatel OneTouch Snap 7025D, Fly IQ446 Magic, IconBit NetTAB MERCURY XL.

The value for money toy is undeniable! Of course, a nice design and insane convenience, especially for women's hands, fell into my hand like a native) The camera pleased me, a good flash. Very good assembly, it is easy to change the covers, they sit tightly, nothing creaks or backlash! Android=)

the phone is powerful, there are all sorts of toys, applications, everything goes like clockwork, the sound is good, I personally had no problems, synchronization is there, etc. the camera for the device for 8000 rubles (for that much I took a couple of years ago) is just wonderful, the sensor is very sensitive, just too sensitive. The panels almost never changed, so I can’t judge by them.

The battery works exactly 1 day (VK, Internet, calls, etc.) for me it's normal, for some it's not

    2 years ago 0

Battery failure. will delete photos and docks. failed a couple of times. and ak is basically normal for 6 years is enough.

    2 years ago 0

With full use, the battery lasted quite a bit (a couple of hours)

A little blunt sensor (not the first time sometimes reacts).

    2 years ago 0

On a SIM card, numbers with names are sometimes confused, the camera focuses for a very long time, in sunlight it takes pictures with a blue tint, the speaker overlaps if the phone is on the back cover.

The Internet is fast, only if wi-fi is turned on, when playing games it gets very hot and sits down quickly. A non-replaceable battery, after two years it swelled up, now sits down to zero in two minutes when working on the Internet. In my opinion, it can work no more than two years.

    2 years ago 0

Still, the battery (If you use it purely like a phone, then I spent almost 4 days with short conversations and in standby mode !!! for 3 hours without a break, sat down to zero.Maybe this is normal if used according to the principle went to the mailcontact, checked the messages, answered, turned off.

    non-removable battery
even without work, it constantly heated up.
    sensor.
he is very sensitive, this is both a plus and a minus, sometimes I don’t even have time to bring my finger and he already presses where necessary.
    And another big drawback...
    it is cardboard.
I dropped it from a height of 20 cm onto SOFT and DRY sand.
and it just hung, hung so that nothing even reboots, absolutely.
and he lay and shone the screen until the battery was completely discharged.
after he took it to the workshop, they took it away and a week later they sent it back with a sticker CANNOT BE REPAIRED. it's a shame
