Functional zip and rar archivers for Android. Choosing a good file unpacker

Many programs that we download from the Internet are zipped (packaged) to reduce size. Those. programs are in the archive. Before installing the program from the archive, it must be unpacked (there are exceptions to this rule). Here is an example of installing a program for checking texts for plagiarism, which after downloading is in the archive.

Option 1. Only the ZIP archiver is installed on the computer

So, after downloading, a ZIP archive appears in the downloads folder.

Please note that the zipped file is displayed differently than the regular folder. The zipped folder has a zip lock. We can easily look into the archive folder and see the files needed to install the program in it.

Alas, if we try to start the installation by clicking on the setup icon, then the installation of the program will not start, but a message will appear “This application may use other compressed files stored in this folder. To run the application correctly, you must first extract all files. "

In a specific case, to install the program, you can run not the setup file (setup.exe), but the EtxtAntiplagiat file ( EtxtAntiplagiat.msi). However, in some cases it is necessary to extract all files from the archive, and only then proceed with the installation of the program. To extract files, use the button Extract all(see previous figure).

By pressing the button Overview, you can select the location where the archive will be unpacked. As an example, we will unpack the archive into the Program folder, which we will create on the desktop.

Now you can safely start installing the program. After double clicking on the icon setup the installation process will begin.

After double-clicking on the setup icon, the installation process of the program will begin

If the WinRAR archiver is installed on the computer, the actions will be slightly different.

Option 2. The WinRAR archiver is installed on the computer

As a rule, after installing the WinRAR archiver on a computer, it becomes the default archiver, i.e. all archive files will be opened with WinRAR. If the WinRAR archiver is installed on the computer, the archive files look like a stack of books pulled by a belt.

The WinRAR archiver is much more advanced than the ZIP archiver that comes with Windows. In a specific case, WinRAR allows you to install the program by running the setup.exe file even without unpacking the archive into a separate folder. If you still need to unpack the archive, then in the context menu (invoked by the right mouse button) you can select the location for unpacking the archive.

For example, if you select the option Extract to etxt_antiplagiat \, then a folder will be created in the downloads folder that matches the name of the archive, into which the files extracted from the archive will be placed.

If you still have questions about installing programs from the archive, ask them in the comments.

Evgeny Mukhutdinov

In this article, we will dwell in detail on the algorithm of actions in specific programs when unpacking data using the last three groups of methods.

Method 1: WinRAR

One of the most famous archivers is WinRAR, which, although it specializes in working with RAR archives, can also extract data from ZIP archives.

Method 2: 7-Zip

Another archiver that can extract data from ZIP archives is the 7-Zip application.

Method 3: IZArc

Now we will describe the algorithm for extracting content from ZIP objects using IZArc.

  1. Start IZArc. Click on the button "Open".
  2. Shell starts "Open archive ..."... Go to the directory where the ZIP is located. With the object selected, click "Open".
  3. The ZIP content will appear as a list in the IZArc wrapper. To start unpacking files, click on the button Checkout on the panel.
  4. The extraction settings window is launched. There are many different parameters with which the user can figure it out himself. We are interested in specifying the unpacking directory. It is displayed in the field "Extract to"... You can change this parameter by clicking on the catalog image from the field to the right.
  5. Like 7-Zip, it activates "Browse folders"... Select the directory you plan to use and click "OK".
  6. Change the path to the checkout folder in the box "Extract to" the unpacking settings window indicates that the unpacking procedure can be started. Click Checkout.
  7. The contents of the ZIP archive were extracted to the folder, the path to which was specified in the field "Extract to" unzip settings window.

Method 4: ZIP Archiver

Method 5: HaoZip

Another software product with which you can unpack a ZIP archive is the HaoZip archiver from Chinese developers.

The main disadvantage of this method is that HaoZip has only an English and Chinese interface, but the official version does not have Russification.

Method 6: PeaZip

Now let's look at the procedure for unpacking ZIP archives using the PeaZip application.

  1. Launch PeaZip. Click on the menu "File" and choose the item "Open archive".
  2. An opening window appears. Enter the directory where the ZIP object is located. Having designated this element, press "Open".
  3. The contents of the zip archive will be displayed in the shell. To unzip, click on the shortcut Checkout in the folder image.
  4. The extraction options window appears. In field "Target" the current data extraction path is displayed. If desired, there is an opportunity to change it. Click on the button immediately to the right of this field.
  5. The tool starts "Browse folders", which we have already got acquainted with earlier. Navigate to the desired directory and highlight it. Click "OK".
  6. After displaying the new address of the target directory in the field "Target" press to start extraction "OK".
  7. The files are extracted to the specified folder.

Method 7: WinZip

Now let's turn to the instructions for extracting data from a ZIP archive using the WinZip file archiver.

The main disadvantage of this method is that the considered version of WinZip has a limited period of use, and then you will have to buy the full version.

Method 8: Total Commander

Now let's move on from archivers to file managers, starting with the most famous of them - Total Commander.

There is another option for extracting files in Total Commander. This method is especially suitable for those users who do not want to unpack the entire archive, but only individual files.

Method 9: FAR Manager

The next file manager, in which we'll talk about how to unpack ZIP archives, is called FAR Manager.

  1. Launch FAR Manager. He, like Total Commander, has two navigation bars. You need to go in one of them to the directory where the ZIP archive is located. To do this, first of all, you should select the logical disk on which this object is stored. It is required to decide in which panel we will open the archive: in the right or in the left. In the first case, use the combination Alt + F2, and in the second - Alt + F1.
  2. The disc selection window appears. Click on the name of the disk where the archive is located.
  3. Enter the folder where the archive is located and navigate to it by double clicking on the object Paintwork.
  4. The content will be displayed inside the FAR Manager panel. Now in the second panel you need to go to the directory where the unpacking is performed. Apply disk selection again using the combination Alt + F1 or Alt + F2, depending on which combination you used the first time. Now you need to use something else.
  5. The familiar disk selection window appears, in which you must click on the option that suits you.
  6. After the disc is open, navigate to the folder where you want to extract the files. Next, click anywhere in the panel that displays the archive files. Apply the combination Ctrl + * to select all objects contained in the ZIP. After highlighting, press "Copy" at the bottom of the program shell.
  7. The extraction options window appears. Click on the button "OK".
  8. The zip content is extracted to a directory that is activated in another pane of the File Manager.

Method 10: "Explorer"

Even if you do not have archivers or third-party file managers installed on your PC, you can always open the ZIP archive and extract data from it using "Explorer".

There are several methods to decompress a ZIP archive using various programs. These are file managers and archivers. We have presented a far from complete list of these applications, but only the most famous of them. There is no significant difference between them in the procedure for unpacking an archive with the specified extension. Therefore, you can safely use those archivers and file managers that are already installed on your computer. But even if you do not have such programs, you do not need to install them immediately to unpack the ZIP archive, since you can perform this procedure using "Explorer" although it is less convenient than using third-party software.

One of the most important, in my opinion, programs is a program that allows you to archive and unzip files. Especially for the novice PC user, these two options mostly need to be unzipped. And in this post we will consider free 7-Zip archiver.

Archivers allow you to compress data so that it takes up less space on your computer. And especially now, archivers are used if you need to transfer any files over the Internet in order to reduce the size or weight of the transferred files as much as possible.

Usually files packed by archivers have a designation (extension) with the form at the end of the file name: .rar or .zip.

So, if you have a file with one of these extensions and, when you click on this file, it does not open for you, it means that you do not have an archiver installed.

One of the most common paid archivers is WinRar, which expires after a month (or a little more). It, for example, allows you to both archive and unzip rar or zip files.

And the most popular free archiver is 7-Zip.

7-Zip does not pack files into rar but also packs in zip files that WinRar can also open.

7-Zip can unpack rar or zip files, including those that were packed by WinRar.

Therefore, I believe that this 7-Zip archiver is quite suitable for novice PC users, and most experienced users.

Installation and review of the free 7-Zip archiver.

The 7-Zip installation process itself is very simple. When you start the program downloaded above, a window will appear:

By default, a folder is created 7-Zip in a shared folder Program Files(on the hard disk of the computer where the operating system is installed). You don't have to change anything here. Just click on the button Instal and in the window that appears on the button Finish.

Everything! Ready! Let's move on to using the archiver.

Using the 7-Zip archiver

Using 7-Zip is also easy.

Unpacking compressed files in 7-Zip

Let's say you have a file that is packed with some kind of archiver.

On a computer, this archive file will look something like this: or like this:

Since you already have 7-Zip installed, when you click on this file with the left mouse button (double click), this file will open. Everything is fine!

If you need to unpack this file, then when you right-click on it, an additional menu for selecting actions will appear.

Find the line 7-Zip. On hover, another submenu will open with a choice of actions. I recommend choosing: Unpack to "File name".

Thus, a folder with the name of the packed file is created, and all files that were packed by the archiver are unpacked into this folder.

Compressing files in 7-Zip

Let's consider the same situation, only now you need to compress a file or folder with files.

Also right-click on a folder or file. Only now choose: Add to “Filename.zip”... As a result, you will get an archive (a packed file or a folder with files).

If desired, the resulting archive can be renamed by also right-clicking on it and selecting the function: Rename.

Please note that you can also choose: Add to “File name.7z”... Extension .7z This is a type of archiving that belongs directly to the 7-Zip program and packed files with this extension are designed to open these files with the same program.

This means that if you pack the files with your 7-Zip program with the extension .7z in order to give this archive to someone, then in order for that user to open this file, he must also have the 7-Zip archiver installed.

And since not 100% of users use this program, I recommend packing files so that there is an extension .zip(as shown in the picture earlier). So you can be sure that the person to whom you are sending this file will open it (if he has another archiver installed).

To solve this problem, go to the menu Start-> 7-Zip-> as shown in the picture:

There in the tab Language we choose again Russian language(even if it is already selected), press Apply, and then OK:

Restart the computer so that the settings apply to the context menu.

7-Zip software update

The version of the program described in this note is 9.20. And it is sufficient for the above (and not only) tasks. But the developers improve its functionality from time to time.

If you want to download the latest version, you can do it on the 7-Zip website.

To summarize: To reduce the size of files, archivers are used. If any file with the .rar or .zip extension does not open, then install an archiver for yourself. Featured in this note, 7-Zip is a great free alternative to the paid WinRar counterpart.

Unpack the files into a folder as shown in the picture and, if you need to give someone an archive, pack it with the .zip extension.

7-Zip is a popular version of the archiver for the Windows operating system with increased compression rates. It is the leader in a family of free and paid software.

The distinctive features of this archiver include the fact that it supports 265-bit AES encryption. Works with popular RAR archives including RAR 3, CAB and ZIP. On any specialized site, you can download the 7-zip archiver for free.

7z archiver

In general, this archiver provides the following features:

  • supports unzipping formats: CAB, MSI, DEB, ZIP, 7z, Z, RAR, ARJ, LZH, CHM, GZIP, WIM, TAR, CPIO, RPM, ISO, NSIS, RPM, BZIP2;
  • supports archiving formats ZIP, 7z, BZIP2, GZIP and TAR;
  • shows the highest compression ratio in 7z format with LZMA compression;
  • compresses GZIP and ZIP formats by 2-10% more than WinZip and PKZip;
  • 7-Zip archiver provides the ability to encrypt archives;
  • has a built-in file manager;
  • integrated into Windows;
  • has a plug-in for FAR Manager, as well as in Total Commander, Windows Shell;
  • works from the command line with advanced features;
  • has multilingual support, the archiver is translated into 74 languages (you need to download 7 Zip rus);

All you have to do is download the 7-Zip archiver and you have excellent open source software available under the GNU LGPL mixed license, unRAR is closed. There is an opportunity to download for free without any hidden fees, however, the possibility of voluntary assistance to the project is also provided.

Multifunctionality of the archiver and free delivery means its popularity. For effective use, it is enough to download and install 7z archiver on your computer. In 99% of cases, the provided formats are sufficient for successful work with archives.

Strong 256-bit encryption allows it to be used in secret archives or, if desired, pack the archive with a high compression ratio. For maximum compression, you can use the proprietary format. The capabilities of the archiver complement each other well and confidently take it to the leading positions in the rating of paid and free archiving programs. The project is developing quite strongly, which implies regular updates that are available to users. It is assumed that the 7 Zip project will hold the leading position in the near future and promote the new 7z format.

Today we will consider 7-Zip archiver... The developer of this program is also a Russian programmer - Igor Pavlov, as in the case with, because it was also created by a Russian team.

Zip is a common compression algorithm, but in fact the 7-Zip archiver is very different from this method in compressing files, despite the fact that the name of this program uses this word.

Files packed into an archive using the 7-Zip program have a 7z extension if you leave the default settings. But when adding files to the archive, you can change this format to zip, tar and others. We will look at how this is done when creating archives.

Despite being free, the program provides not a bad compression ratio, no worse than the paid WinRAR program. You can download the latest version on the official website.

After installing the program, we need to run it. As I understand it, it does not create a shortcut on the desktop, so to launch it, you will have to find it in Start.

The main window of the program is very simple. At the top there are various menus, below are large buttons that perform the main work, below them is the address bar, where we can navigate through folders and disks, and even below we see files and folders that are located at the address selected above.

But in reality, this window is rarely used when creating archives. Almost always used Explorer context menu... Let's take a closer look at this process.

We decide on the information that we will pack into the archive. Right-click on a file or folder with files. In the context menu that opens, we find the items " 7-Zip - Add to archive».

In the window that opens, you need to make the settings, let's see what is there. Well, the very first thing is the name of the archive, we set it or leave it by default, if we are happy with it. In the drop-down list of the Archive format parameter, you need to select the format in which the files will be packed - this is 7z, ZIP, TAR or another of the suggested ones. ZIP and 7z are most commonly used. The parameter Compression level, I think, is clear, the higher it is, the less the archive will weigh at the output, but also the slower the compression will be. Almost at the very bottom, you can specify the size of each file if we want to split it into volumes. On the right, in the Options parameter, there is a "Create SFX archive" item. The checkbox must be ticked here if you want a self-extracting archive to be created, which does not require installed archivers on the computer to unzip. I want to note that if you select, for example, the ZIP archive format, this function will not be available. Below there is an Encryption option that will help protect your archive by creating a password for it. In this case, unpacking the archive will only be possible if the correct password is entered. When everything is set up, click "OK" to start creating the archive.

In the picture below, I have marked all that we have considered:

When creating archives in 7z format, I recommend creating SFX archives, since 7-Zip program many do not have it installed and may have problems unpacking. And the self-extracting archive does not need any programs. So consider this.
