Philips is the latest phone model. The best Philips smartphones

Philips will continue to promote what makes its TVs unique in 2017: Ambilight. The company will also continue its Android TV partnership with Google and will also launch a new flagship OLED TV with an all-new P5 processor. The rest of the lineup consists of mid-range LCD TVs.

Features of the Philips 2017 line

One of the unique features of Philips TVs is Ambilight... The company explains that this mood lighting technology has a high rating compared to any single feature in TVs. When people use Ambilight, they want more.

Philips has developed its Ambilight system in a variety of ways over the years. One of the most significant changes was the move to LEDs for Ambilight, which meant the system could control light more precisely and enable new use cases. According to the company, the system has become “smart,” which means you can now make it pulsate to the beat of the music or expand your mood lighting throughout your living room by connecting to Philips HUE. You can also manually tune the system to use warm and static white - otherwise known as offset lighting - instead of dynamic tones that change with the screen.

Ambilight

Philips, of course, has a rich history in lighting technology and even though the TV division was sold to TP Vision, the company still has its roots in the Netherlands. At the same time Philips says that its commitment to European design traditions has not changed. The 2017 TVs are also designed for Europeans with a minimalist taste. However, in a world of ultra-minimalist vanishing bezel TV designs, one would admit that most TVs look the same. And what's Philips' answer? It revolves around Ambilight again: something that none of the other manufacturers have to offer.

However, Philips cannot deny the fact that there are no design differences in this year's lineup. The company that has produced stunning DesignLine TVs over the years did not innovate in 2017 in the look of TVs. This year's flagship TV is a minimalist design based on OLED technology. Philips will add another high-end model by the end of the year, but with LCD screen technology. This will be the eighth 8000 series and the first model in the company with quantum dot lighting technology..

Video about model 8602:

Another innovation for Philips is 4K and HDR picture quality. For this task, the company has developed a completely new image processor P5 (P as Perfect)... This engine is 25% more powerful and has 25% more processing cycles. It is currently based on a single chip instead of several, which may seem contradictory - is more not better than one? But Philips explains that one chip offers better data flow and eliminates data transfer delays between the chips. The P5 processor improves picture quality on any type of signal.

The P5 processor is integrated in the 7502 series and above. And Philips is very enthusiastic about the combination of P5 processor and OLED panel in 2017 (model POS9002). The company believes it can take picture quality to a higher level with 4K resolution and HDR dynamic range.

4K Ultra HD screen resolution is used on most 2017 models. The same is true for HDR, at least that's what the spec says.

But it is important to emphasize that although HDR is easily supported in software, the HDR system places high demands on the hardware. There is no other way to get true HDR than using Philips' new 2017 OLED. This is also true for the models in the 2017 lineup that are certified "UHD Premium".

2017 models will only support HDR10 and HLG. Dolby Vision is not used yet

The new Philips TVs will support two HDR formats, namely HDR10 and HLG. The first is the base format used for streaming and UHD Blu-ray, while HLG is the format for broadcast TV (where the channels themselves support HDR). Philips is currently ignoring another HDR format: Dolby Vision.

If you want to enjoy streaming video in the best possible quality, the new Philips TVs offer access to Netflix and YouTube. Netflix offers movies and TV shows in 4K HDR quality. YouTube also offers video in this quality, but in order to receive such a signal from YouTube, the TV must have a “VP9 Profile2” decoder, which is a video format developed by Google. VP9-2 is supported on 6482 series and above (except 7202).

Paying attention to the user interface, Philips continues to use the Android operating system in most of its models... Philips has been using this system since the very beginning of its promotion for TVs and despite the stability problems in the past years, serious bugs have already been fixed. 2017 TVs will start with Android 6 version and will later receive an update to version 7.

All TVs from the 6400 series and above will be controlled by the Android TV system.

There are no curved TVs in the 2017 lineup and none of the new TVs support 3D. Last year Philips announced that it was phasing out 3D and called curved displays a "fad," so it can be assumed that the company will not return to them again.

The speakers are hidden on most models, including the flagship OLED TV. Philips explains that most customers who buy a high-end TV prefer external speakers, so it removed the soundbar that was integrated into last year's OLED model. Some of the mid-range TVs are offered in versions that include a built-in soundbar.

And TVs also offer a standard set of features that have been created over the past few years. This is a Wi-Fi module, and the ability to write to an external drive via USB and other functions.

The main parameters of each series are presented in the table below:

Philips TVs are labeled in 2017 with a “2” at the end. For example, the 7000 series in 2017 will be marked PUS7x02. Let us recall the marking of past years:

  • xxx2 = 2017,
  • xxx1 = 2016,
  • xxx0 = 2015,
  • xxx9 = 2014.

Conclusion

Prices are approximate, taken in the summer of 2017 from online stores, both foreign and CIS countries. Prices change over time, so when you check the cost, it may not be the same as presented. Over time, prices only go down.

And again, in the marking at the end of the set of numbers there is a "2", which means the year of release, that is, 2017. And the letters in order mean:

  1. The first letter P is Philips
  2. Second letter:
    • F - Full HD resolution (1920x1080),
    • H - HD resolution (1366x768),
    • U - 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840x2160),
    • O - OLED screen (they are all 4K).
  3. The third letter S or T denotes different types of tuner, there may be other letters

The Philips brand has always been famous for the affordable cost of its mobile devices, and, at the same time, their acceptable quality and power. The new items released by the company in 2017 were no exception. Engineers continue to implement modern technological solutions in their products, keeping prices within the mid-range and budget segments of the market. We will analyze in this review whether the new models are worth attention.

Philips Xenium X588 smartphone

This model belongs to the middle class devices. Its main features are an extremely voluminous battery and a special screen coating that protects the eyes from negative radiation. How good the device is for the rest - let us analyze below:

  1. Design can be safely called strict. There are no corners, all edges are rounded. The gadget is presented in only one color option - a combination of black and dark gray. The back panel and side frames are completely made of metal. Only plastic panels covering the antennas. The front surface is protected by 2.5D glass. It should be noted the presence of an oleophobic coating that saves the display from the appearance of traces and prints. Following the latest fashion, there are no control keys under the screen - they have been moved to the interface. But the side mechanical buttons remain, located on the right side of the smartphone. Above the screen, the engineers placed the front camera lens, speaker and sensors: proximity and illumination. On the back surface there is a main camera, a diode flash under it and a fingerprint scanner even lower. The dimensions of the case are 144.2x71.9x9.3 mm, and the weight is only 168 g, despite the completely metal case.
  2. Display got a 5-inch diagonal. The work is based on an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The image conforms to HD parameters with a pixel density of 294 PPI. The indicator is not a record, but it is extremely difficult to see individual particles even with the use of a magnifying glass. An important role in this is played by high-quality illumination, which gives way only to direct sunlight. The display also supports multi-touch with 5 simultaneous touches. Now about one of the main features. The matrix has a proprietary SoftBlue filter, tested and certified by the international laboratory TUV Rheinland. This technology significantly reduces the blue color spectrum, which in turn reduces eye strain during long-term use of the device. Overall, the screen is very good and comfortable in almost any environment.
  3. Performance is at a fairly high level. A smartphone, of course, is not suitable for avid gamers, but it can handle everyday tasks of any level without problems. The manufacturer installed an 8-core MediaTek MT6750 processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. The built-in Mali-T720 video adapter uses system RAM, but the performance does not suffer from this at all - the RAM itself is 3 GB, of which most of it remains for the processing of processes. Physical memory 32 GB expandable via microSD card. In general, the power is fully sufficient, which is confirmed by fairly high test results. For example, AnTuTu shows 34,000 points. Most modern games will also launch normally, and will work, albeit at the lowest graphics settings. Operating system - Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
  4. Camera is represented by two modules - the main lens at 13 MP and the front one at 5 MP. Doesn't really stand out, taking mid-range shots regardless of ambient lighting. Selfie shots are a little blurry, although this is quite enough for communication in video chats. A standard Android camera control application with all the necessary functionality, from HDR to panoramic photography.
  5. Connection works through all modern protocols. Connection with 2G, 3G, 4G networks is supported via GSM protocols. It is worth noting the presence of 2 slots for SIM cards, one of which is used to install removable media for physical memory. Wi-Fi and BlueTooth are available, as well as satellite positioning via GPS and Glonass. An infrared emitter that synchronizes with most models of modern household appliances is a quality addition.
  6. Battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh, and is capable of holding a charge during normal use for 24-26 hours. At maximum load, the device can withstand about 10 hours. For modern smartphones, this is more than a decent indicator, which can only be surpassed by devices from the premium segment.
This gadget will be a great helper for any user. It copes well with web surfing, and with applications, and with watching videos, and even with most games. Nice looks, good performance, high quality screen make this smartphone one of the best in the middle segment of the market.

The price of Philips Xenium X588 in Russia is 15500 rubles. See below for a video review of the model:

Philips S326 smartphone

Here is a device designed for the budget segment. And this does not mean at all that it is of poor quality. Rather, on the contrary, in addition to decent characteristics, it has some additional functionality that makes this smartphone an ideal mobile gadget. Let's take a look at the points:
  1. Design simple and uncomplicated, and it does not spoil the impression of the device in the least. Rather, on the contrary, the streamlined shape and some angularity give more style and increase by an order of magnitude the price category, to which it can be attributed at first glance. The body is made of non-marking plastic in the monoblock form factor, that is, only the back cover is removed from the smartphone. Under it are slots for a memory card and 2 SIM. On the front panel there is a screen that occupies about 80% of the surface, and under it there are touch buttons. Above is the earpiece and front camera. On the back is the main camera and flash, and on the top there is a headphone jack next to the infrared port. On the right are mechanical volume and power keys. The left side panel has been dispensed with modules. In terms of dimensions, the device can be called small - 144.3x72.6x8.95 mm with a mass of 154 g.
  2. Display 5-inch based on IPS matrix. Works with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. Despite the HD picture quality, the level of contrast and density is not very high, so on closer inspection you can clearly distinguish between pixels, which is not very good. Although, if you do not quibble, the image is transmitted quite well. 16.78 million displayed shades and a high brightness value help in this. It is worth noting one unusual moment - the smartphone plays back video in FullHD format without any problems and the loss of quality is completely invisible. The latter, by the way, allows you to work with the device even in direct sunlight. The screen is covered with durable glass with a weak oleophobic coating, which collects most of the prints. In general, the display left a good impression: it is enough for browsing the Internet and video recordings, but modern films and games look much worse than their creators thought.
  3. Performance is the weak point of this smartphone. This is due to the outdated Spreadtrum SC9830 processor with 4 cores at 1.5 GHz, the popular but weak Mali-400 MP video chip and only 1 GB of RAM. The assembly can be called satisfactory, if not for the last point. This amount of RAM practically leaves the system no room for data processing, especially since some part is constantly allocated to support the graphics accelerator. The amount of built-in physical memory is also not happy - 8 GB, of which about 3 GB is occupied by the pre-installed Android 5.1 system with all non-removable (and rarely used) applications. Fortunately, there is a separate slot for the microSD memory card, and you won't have to sacrifice one SIM card. In general, the performance leaves much to be desired - the device will cope with one application or a couple of browser pages, but it is highly discouraged to load it more or run modern "heavy" games. Simpler games like runners or platform jumpers work great with high FPS. This is confirmed by the AnTuTu test, which shows a result of 25400 points.
  4. Camera- another module, which the developers donated for the sake of low cost. The main lens shoots at 8 MP, and the front one is 2 MP. Both have a decent autofocus function. This, however, does not save the situation. Relatively good pictures will only come out with good lighting and low subject mobility. On the other hand, the quality of the camera is quite enough for everyday shots with friends and relatives.
  5. Connection is one of the highlights of the model. In addition to standard Wi-Fi, BlueTooth and support for GSM standards, the device is able to connect to 4G networks and carry out satellite navigation via a GPS transmitter. A good addition is an infrared emitter, which can be easily tuned to any modern technology, from a TV set to a washing machine. It is controlled by a special application already included in the software assembly - ZaZaRemote.
  6. Battery volume of 3000 mAh only at first glance seems insufficient. Considering the features of the chipsets and the energy-efficient IPS matrix, the charge consumption is minimal. The maximum load will land the battery in 6-7 hours, and in normal mode it will last about 20 hours. If you use the smartphone only for conversations, turning off all the rest of the functionality, then the indicator of 30 hours of battery life is achieved with ease.
This model is the ideal representative of budget smartphones: moderately powerful, with a good screen, excellent autonomy and stylish appearance. Without a doubt, if you just need a high-quality "work" phone for the minimum amount, then this device will be a good choice.

The price of Philips S326 in Russia is 6000 rubles. Check out the video review below:

Smartphone Philips Swift 4G S626L (TLS626L)

This model is intended for a different price category, although this is more likely due to the increased diagonal, because the rest of the parameters do not differ from the devices from the middle price category. Whether the increase in size is justified, judge for yourself, based on the review:
  1. Design classic, but focused more on girls - because of the color. The smartphone is presented in a golden hue, without additional decorative elements. The device is made non-separable, with a fully metal back cover and a side frame, the display is protected by glass. All edges are rounded. The screen occupies 75% of the front surface. In addition to it, only sensors, a front camera and an earpiece are located in front. The touch buttons for menu and control have been removed from the case and into the interface. On the back are: a regular camera, flash and a fingerprint scanner. On the side are mechanical power and volume keys on the right and card slots on the left, respectively. The dimensions are 161.3x83.7x8.9 mm, and the weight is 210 g. In principle, the design is pleasant, and the beautiful color makes a claim for an extremely high cost.
  2. Display is represented by a 6-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 1920 × 1080, which corresponds to FullHD quality. Supports multi-touch up to 5 touches. It should be noted that the screen is quite sensitive and copes well with external stimuli - shadows, glare and tilt. The viewing angles are average, but few people look at the phone screen horizontally, so this is not a problem. The pixel density of 367 PPI is a high figure that completely hides grain. The brightness control has many variations, and makes it possible to perfectly adjust the screen, both in complete darkness and under sunlight. Of course, with a direct hit of the latter, glare will still appear, but on the street in good weather, working with the device is quite comfortable. The color rendition is close to natural, there are no distortions in cold or warm shades. In general, a good display for surfing the Internet and watching videos.
  3. Performance slightly smaller than usual for devices with such a diagonal. Most modern games can be launched, but only with minimal settings. You shouldn't run more than 2-3 applications at the same time - the smartphone will "please" with freezes. Responsibility for this lies with the MediaTek MT6750T chipset with 8 cores at 1.5 GHz, the ARM Mali-T860 MP2 video accelerator and 3 GB of RAM. Undoubtedly, this set is enough for everyday tasks, and even 8-10 tabs in the browser will not create a high load. A small amount of RAM will affect applications, although most of them (the most popular social networks or video hosting sites) work without problems, provided that they are launched sequentially. Although, in general, the performance is at a decent level - AnTuTu testing shows 32600 points. Built-in physical memory 32 GB. This is enough for both programs and for storing personal files. In any case, additional SD media can be installed. As an operating system, the user receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a full set of pre-installed software.
  4. Camera, traditionally, has 2 lenses. The main one shoots with a resolution of 13 MP, and the front one shoots with 8 MP. And that's great news for selfie lovers. Now the pictures taken with the front camera are of normal quality, and it can be used not only for video chats. The standard lens is also not satisfactory, taking pretty pretty photos. Of course, it's far from the ideal view, but in domestic conditions, with good lighting, problems do not arise.
  5. Connection carried out through all modern protocols. Even 4G network protocols are available via ordinary SIM cards. By the way, you can install 2 of them. But to use SD media, one will have to be abandoned. Wi-Fi and BlueTooth modules are available.
  6. Battery capacity of 4850 mAh provides quite good battery life. Under maximum load on all systems (streaming video or games), the smartphone will be discharged for 7-8 hours, and with normal use, the battery will withstand 18-20 hours. The indicators are not bad, allowing you to periodically forget to charge at home.
A good smartphone with a large screen and average performance. The main feature is autonomy. Perfect for all users with no special requirements for technology. Handles all daily tasks without any problems.

The Dutch consumer electronics manufacturer entered the mobile phone market a long time ago. In those days, small push-button devices were popular, and several years remained before the release of the first touchscreen smartphones. The company decided to stand out from the competition by endowing its creations with a capacious battery. And for a long time, Philips mobile phones have been very successful. However, with the onset of the Android era, the manufacturer began to feel noticeably worse.

One day, the rights to use the brand were sold to the Chinese. Therefore, the Dutch have absolutely nothing to do with the production of modern Philips smartphones, and these devices have lost their originality. Now they are mostly faceless and not too powerful. However, exceptions to the rule do happen. Read about the best Philips smartphones in this collection.

    Best in everything

    Philips Xenium X818

    • Operating system: Android 6.0
    • CPU: MediaTek Helio P10, 8 cores, 2000 MHz
    • Screen: 5.5 inches, IPS, 1920 x 1080 pixels
    • Battery: 3900 mAh
    • RAM: 3 GB
    • Built-in storage: 32 GB

    Price: from RUB 8 490

    With a better screen

    Philips S395

    • CPU: 4-core MediaTek MT6737H @ 1.3 GHz
    • Screen: 5.7 inches, resolution 1440 × 720
    • Cameras (main / front): 8 Mpix / 5 Mpix
    • Memory (operational / built-in): 2 GB / 16 GB
    • Battery capacity: 3000mAh

    Price: from 6 503 rubles

Philips S395 became the first smartphone from the Dutch company with a screen aspect ratio. The screen has HD + resolution, a diagonal of just over 5.7 inches, minimal bezels and an oleophobic coating. Displays with similar characteristics in 2019 will not surprise anyone, but for a budget segment device this is a very good level. Experts praise the S395's screen for its high brightness, clarity, lack of graininess, as well as the ability to fine-tune with MiraVision.

We also note the ergonomics of the device - it is very light (only 150 grams) and compact. Thanks to the modern aspect ratio, the 5.7-inch screen was able to fit into the case for 5-inch displays.

    Advantages:

    • Large bright screen.
    • Not bad for a "budget" supply of RAM (2 GB).
    • Support for 2 SIM cards.
    • The best cameras among Philips smartphones.
    • Low weight.

    Flaws:

    • Weak processor.
    • Old Android (version 7.0).

    Conclusion

Philips branded smartphones have standard alphanumeric indexes. As such, there is no ruler division. However, some conclusions can be drawn from the first letter in the model name. For instance, " X”Suggests that the device will be close to the title of flagship. Usually, such devices get maximum functionality. The letter " S”Suggests that the manufacturer has tried to give its device a stylish look. But most often, such models differ from other products only in smaller thickness and weight. Under the name with the letter " V"Typical middle peasants are hiding, not claiming any records.

    Excluded from selection

    Philips S386

    • Operating system: Android 7.0
    • CPU: MediaTek MT6580, 4 cores, 1300 MHz
    • Screen: 5 inches, IPS, 1280 x 720 pixels
    • Battery: 5000 mAh
    • RAM: 2 GB
    • Built-in storage: 16 GB

    Price: from 7 190 rub.

Externally very simple smartphone. When you look at it, associations with a large number of Chinese devices involuntarily arise in my head. In a word, the main advantage of the device is not design, but technical characteristics. The smartphone includes a 5000 mAh battery. This parameter is quite enough for one and a half to two days of battery life. At the same time, the device does not have the most powerful processor, so its owners are unlikely to spend a lot of energy on games.

The amount of RAM may seem small. However, it is enough for stable operation of the operating system and all applications, and it makes no sense to wish for more from such an inexpensive device. But you can really complain about the lack of a fingerprint sensor, you have to rely on a pin code or a pattern. But if many competitors with a similar price tag do not have them either, then this cannot be said about the 4G module. However, the characteristics of Philips S386 are such that it doesn't really need a high data transfer rate. Much more important is the fact that there are two slots for SIM-cards and a fresh version of the operating system. The fact of the presence of an FM radio is also important.

    Advantages:

    • Stable software.
    • You can insert a pair of SIM cards.
    • Comparatively good display.
    • Installed Android 7.0.
    • Decent battery life.
    • Low cost.
    • Additional back covers are included.

    Flaws:

    • The simplest cameras are built in.
    • There is no LTE support.
    • Not the most powerful components.

    Philips S616

    • Operating system: Android 5.1
    • CPU: MediaTek MT6753, 8 cores, 1300 MHz
    • Screen: 5.5 inches, IPS, 1920 x 1080 pixels
    • Battery: 3000 mAh
    • RAM: 2 GB
    • Built-in storage: 16 GB

    Price: from 9 990 rub.

This smartphone includes an IPS display. You can look at it from any angle - you will definitely not notice the distortion of the picture. The screen diagonal reaches 5.5 inches. This is the best option both for managing the operating system and for watching movies. Videos are allowed to watch not only via Wi-Fi, but also using LTE networks. Such a screen also has a decent margin of brightness. As a result, the picture on it is clearly visible even on the street, on a bright sunny day. And this is important, as the owner of the Philips S616 will often use it for photography.

The device is powered by a powerful eight-core processor. But do not forget that it belongs to the budget segment, so in some games you will have to lower the graphics settings. The amount of memory can be called adequate - this is quite enough for the stable functioning of Android 5.1. The device has several sensors. However, this does not include a fingerprint scanner. There is no gyroscope here either. However, this is typical for a smartphone manufactured under the Philips brand.

    Advantages:

    • Built-in eight-core processor.
    • There is support for LTE.
    • Very good camera with f / 2.0 aperture.
    • Nice display.
    • Supports the installation of two SIM-cards.

    Flaws:

    • Unpretentious front camera.
    • No fingerprint reader.
    • A quiet speaker is being used.
    • High power consumption.
