In most desktop DBMS, each database table is stored in a separate file that contains both service information and data in the appropriate format. Service information includes information describing the structure of the file, such as the names and data types of table fields, the number of records in the file, the length of the file, etc.
Unlike other DBMSs, Microsoft Access stores all objects (except for data access pages) in a single file with the mdb extension. In addition, the MDB file includes a set of system tables that contain all the necessary information about database objects, including information about the location and parameters of attached tables in other formats. By default, system tables are not displayed in the Access 2002 database window. To access these tables, you must change one of the Access options. The following describes the database file formats that can be attached or imported by Access 2002.
- Previous Access 2000 (MDB) tables are processed in exactly the same way as Access 2002 tables. They require no special import effort from the user and open in the same way as Access 2002 tables. . The ISAM drivers that come standard with Microsoft Office as part of the Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) 2.1 and later provide read-only access to DBF files. When updating data in a Paradox table from Access, the index file must be available along with the table file. Troubleshooting Opening ACCESS Files
General problems opening ACCESS files
Java not installed
By double-clicking on the ACCESS file, you can see a system dialog box that says "Can't open this type of file". In this case, this is usually due to the fact that Java is not installed on your computer for %%os%%. How to Fix Problems Opening ACCESS Files

Each field name is limited to 64 characters. Field Data type should provide the most efficient way to store relevant information in a field. The description field is the comments to the field Field name.
Used data types: text(most common) MEMO to store long text, numeric, date/time, counter for numbering records, logical, monetary, field object OLE , hyperlink, type of Substitution Wizard(Fig. 30).

Each table field has a set of properties associated with it that can be used to customize how the field stores data, how the field works, and how it is displayed on the screen. So, for example, the property Field size defines the maximum data size and is associated with data type (t text, numeric, counter ) .
In laboratory work, the description of the subject area at the infological level is considered to be given. Therefore, in accordance with the individual task (clause 2.4), the student is given the names of the main fields and the names of the tables. After creating the structure of tables, selecting data types and field properties, as well as setting key and indexed fields, the creation of tables is considered complete.
However, development DB does not end with creating tables. The tables are then populated with relevant data that can be used in forms, queries, and reports. In addition, an application (program) is usually created that controls the data processing logic in Access .
In practice, filling in the tables is carried out through special forms. However, in the lab, we will first populate the tables and then proceed to develop the application. Therefore, it is necessary to be very careful when filling out tables and exclude both syntactic and spelling errors, which can inevitably lead to the occurrence of various anomalies and, as a result, the “refusal” of the DBMS in creating links. After the tables are created, links are established between them to maintain the integrity of the data and their joint processing (Fig. 25). Defining a primary key ensures that the values of the corresponding set of fields (fields) are unique. In design mode, the primary key is marked with a key icon. If the primary key is a composite key, then all the fields included in it must be marked with a key icon.

2.3.5 Define relationships between tables DB. To set relationships between the corresponding tables, open the window Data Schema , click the shared field in the main table, and drag it to the location of the shared field in the subtable. If the common field is the primary key in the master table, then Access allows you to support integrity data ( referential integrity ). In this case, in the dialog box that opens Connections you can configure the communication parameters and set the desired type of data integrity (Figure 32). In the same window, using the Join button, you can set the type of table join.

2.3.7 Explore the tools Access to ensure database security and access restrictions to it, based on the creation accounts user groups and setting access rights for them.
