In most desktop DBMS, each database table is stored in a separate file that contains both service information and data in the appropriate format. Service information includes information describing the structure of the file, such as the names and data types of table fields, the number of records in the file, the length of the file, etc.

Unlike other DBMSs, Microsoft Access stores all objects (except for data access pages) in a single file with the mdb extension. In addition, the MDB file includes a set of system tables that contain all the necessary information about database objects, including information about the location and parameters of attached tables in other formats. By default, system tables are not displayed in the Access 2002 database window. To access these tables, you must change one of the Access options. To do this, select the command Service, Options(Tools, Options), open tab View(View) dialog box Options(Options) and in a group display(Show) checkbox System objects(System Objects). Access system tables are read-only, so they cannot be modified by the user.

The following describes the database file formats that can be attached or imported by Access 2002.

  • Previous Access 2000 (MDB) tables are processed in exactly the same way as Access 2002 tables. They require no special import effort from the user and open in the same way as Access 2002 tables. . The only difference will be that after the name of the open file in the title of the database window, the inscription will appear in brackets: Access 2000 format(Access 2000 format file).
  • dBASE III, III+, IV, 5 and 7 tables (DBF), MEMO type field files (DBT), dBASE III index files (NDX), and dBASE IV index files (MDX).

Comment

The ISAM drivers that come standard with Microsoft Office as part of the Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) 2.1 and later provide read-only access to DBF files. Borland Database Engine (BDE) 4.x or later is required to have read and write access. There are also drivers from Microsoft that provide read/write access and don't require BDE to be installed, but you need to contact Microsoft Technical Support for that.

The dBASE III and dBASE IV table and index file format is standard for database management systems running on personal computers. The Access 2002 database management system allows you to attach NDX and MDX index files. When an attached indexed table changes, dBASE Access automatically updates the index files.

Comment

The presence of index files NDX (dBASE III), MDX (dBASE IV) is optional. However, if these files are available, it's best to use them. Otherwise, if you modify the attached dBASE table, those changes are not reflected in the index file, which can cause errors when you try to use indexed tables modified in Access in dBASE applications.

If the imported dBASE file contains fields of the MEMO type, then the files with the data of these fields (DBT) must be available, i.e. they must be located in the same folder as the table itself. If Access 2002 cannot find the DBT file, then attaching or importing data from such a table will raise an error. When you export data from an Access 2002 table containing a MEMO field to a dBASE table, a DBT file is automatically created and given the same name as the table file.

  • Paradox Table (DB) and Index (PX) Files 3.x, 4.x and 5.0.

Access 2002 allows you to attach Paradox table and index files 3.x and 4.x for MS-DOS, and Paradox for Windows 5.0 and 8.0. When updating data in a Paradox table from Access, the index file must be available along with the table file. When you attach a table, Access 2002 automatically attaches the index file (if it exists).

All additional files used when importing or attaching database tables must be placed in the same folder as the table. It is also worth noting that most applications that work with table and index files use

use the standard extensions above for these files, although this is not required. Therefore, determining a specific database table file format can sometimes be non-trivial.

ACCESS File Summary

ACCESS files are associated with one file type(s) and can be viewed using Java developed Oracle Corporation. In general, this format is associated with one existing application(s) software(s). They usually have the format Java Extension File. Most often, ACCESS files are classified as Uncommon Files.

You can view ACCESS files using Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. They are usually found on desktop computers (and a number of mobile devices) and allow you to view and sometimes edit these files. The popularity rating of the main ACCESS file type is "Low", which means that these files are rarely seen on standard desktop computers or mobile devices.

Troubleshooting Opening ACCESS Files

General problems opening ACCESS files

Java not installed

By double-clicking on the ACCESS file, you can see a system dialog box that says "Can't open this type of file". In this case, this is usually due to the fact that Java is not installed on your computer for %%os%%. Since your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking on it.

Advice: If you know of another program that can open the ACCESS file, you can try opening the given file by selecting that application from the list of possible programs.

Wrong version of Java installed

In some cases, you may have a newer (or older) version of the Java Extension File, not supported by the installed version of the application. If you do not have the correct version of the Java software (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to download a different version of the software or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem most often occurs when working in an older version of the application software With a file created in a newer version, which the old version cannot recognize.

Advice: Sometimes you can get a general idea of the ACCESS file version by right-clicking on the file and then choosing Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac OSX).

Summary: In any case, most of the problems that arise while opening ACCESS files are due to the lack of the correct application software installed on your computer.

Other Causes of Problems Opening ACCESS Files

Even if you already have Java or other ACCESS-related software installed on your computer, you may still encounter problems while opening Java Extension Files. If you still have problems opening ACCESS files, the reason may lie in other problems preventing these files from being opened. Such problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Invalid links to ACCESS files in the Windows registry ("phone book" of the Windows operating system)
  • Accidental deletion of description ACCESS file in the Windows registry
  • Incomplete or incorrect installation application software associated with the ACCESS format
  • File corruption ACCESS (problems with the Java Extension File itself)
  • ACCESS infection malware
  • Damaged or outdated device drivers equipment associated with the ACCESS file
  • Lack of sufficient system resources on the computer to open Java Extension File format

Event of the day

There are many different types of bitmap files: Monochrome Bitmap, 16 Color Bitmap, 256 Color Bitmap, and 24 Bit Bitmap. Many of the world's most popular graphic formats are based on Bitmap, including JPEG, GIF, PNG, and TIFF.

How to Fix Problems Opening ACCESS Files

If your computer has antivirus program can scan all files on the computer, as well as each file individually. You can scan any file by right-clicking on the file and selecting the appropriate option to scan the file for viruses.

For example, in this figure, file my-file.access, then you need to right-click on this file, and in the file menu select the option "scan with AVG". Selecting this option will open AVG Antivirus and scan the file for viruses.

Sometimes an error can result from incorrect software installation, which may be due to a problem that occurred during the installation process. It may interfere with your operating system associate your ACCESS file with the correct software application, influencing the so-called "file extension associations".

Sometimes simple reinstalling java may solve your problem by properly linking ACCESS with Java. In other cases, file association problems may result from bad software programming developer, and you may need to contact the developer for further assistance.

Advice: Try updating Java to the latest version to make sure you have the latest fixes and updates.

This may seem too obvious, but often the ACCESS file itself may be causing the problem. If you received a file via an email attachment or downloaded it from a website and the download process was interrupted (for example, by a power outage or other reason), the file may be corrupted. If possible, try getting a fresh copy of the ACCESS file and try opening it again.

Carefully: A corrupted file can cause collateral damage to previous or existing malware on your PC, so it's important to keep your computer up to date with an up-to-date antivirus.

If your ACCESS file associated with the hardware on your computer to open the file you may need update device drivers associated with this equipment.

This problem usually associated with media file types, which depend on the successful opening of the hardware inside the computer, for example, sound card or video card. For example, if you are trying to open an audio file but cannot open it, you may need to update sound card drivers.

Advice: If when you try to open an ACCESS file you receive .SYS file related error message, the problem could probably be associated with corrupted or outdated device drivers that need to be updated. This process can be facilitated by using driver update software such as DriverDoc.

If the steps didn't solve the problem and you are still having problems opening ACCESS files, this may be due to lack of available system resources. Some versions of ACCESS files may require a significant amount of resources (eg. memory/RAM, processing power) to open properly on your computer. This problem is quite common if you are using fairly old computer hardware and a much newer operating system at the same time.

This problem can occur when the computer is having a hard time completing a task because the operating system (and other services running in the background) can consume too many resources to open ACCESS file. Try closing all applications on your PC before opening Java Extension File. By freeing up all available resources on your computer, you will provide the best conditions for trying to open the ACCESS file.

If you completed all the above steps and your ACCESS file still won't open, you may need to run hardware upgrade. In most cases, even with older hardware versions, the processing power can still be more than enough for most user applications (unless you're doing a lot of CPU-intensive work like 3D rendering, financial/science modeling, or media-intensive work) . In this way, it is likely that your computer does not have enough memory(more commonly referred to as "RAM", or RAM) to perform the task of opening a file.

Try to upgrade your memory to see if that helps open the ACCESS file. Today, memory upgrades are quite affordable and very easy to install, even for the average computer user. As a bonus, you you will probably see a nice performance boost while your computer is performing other tasks.

Database (DB) is an integrated collection of interrelated data. Typically, a database is created for one particular subject area, organization, or application.

To facilitate work with databases, database management systems (DBMS, English abbreviation DBMS - Database Management System) are used - special software packages that provide input, search, storage, replenishment, correction of data, generation of reports and responses to queries from database users. DBMS also provide data storage and movement, as well as the possibility of their use by other software tools. At present, most economic and information and reference software systems are implemented on the basis of the use of one or another DBMS.

application program Microsoft Access 2007 designed to create Database. Access 2007 uses logically related tables that consist of records of the same type. DBMS Microsoft Access 2007 provides convenient and reliable management of data stored in tables.

MS Office Access 2007 introduces several new file extensions:

accdb - file extension of the new MS Office Access 2007 format. Replaces files with the mdb extension;

accde – extension of MS Office Access 2007 files that work in runtime mode. Removed all source code in accde files. The user of the accde file can only execute VBA code, but cannot modify it. accde files have replaced mde files;

accdt – file extension of MS Office Access 2007 database templates;

accdr is a new file extension that allows you to open the database in runtime.

The essence of creating a database in Microsoft Access 2007 is that you first need to create a database structure (create a table structure and establish relationships between them), and then you need to fill in the tables of the new database. MS Access allows you to create linked objects and set the referential integrity of the data. Data integrity is understood as a system of Microsoft Access rules that, when changing some objects, automatically changes all related objects and provides protection against accidental deletion or change of related data.

In addition, it is desirable to create forms to enter data into tables, requests to search for information in the database and reports to display the necessary information from the database in a convenient form on the screen, print or file.

The database can be created either manually (a new empty database) or based on templates. Templates do not always correspond to the required database, but with their help you can quickly create a database close to what is required, and then you can modify it and fill it with your data.

When you start an Access 2007 application, you will see a new "Getting Started with Microsoft Access 2007" start page.

Office Access 2007 - Getting Started

When creating a database based on templates, you can select the desired option on the Getting Started with Microsoft Access 2007 page from the Template Categories or Templates From Microsoft Office Online. When you select, for example, the Faculty template in the Local templates category, a description of the database will appear on the right side of the application window. Below, in the text field, the file name is indicated: Faculty.accdb and a folder icon with which you can save the file to the desired directory (the default folder is My Documents).

The file name and directory for storing the file can be changed. Then you need to click on the Create button. As a result, the database window Faculty: database (Access 2007) - Microsoft Access will appear. The Editing Area will display the Faculty List to be completed. If the Navigation Pane is closed, it must be opened by pressing the F11 key or by clicking on the "Open/Close Navigation Pane Border" button.

Those users who previously used office applications from Microsoft will have to relearn. We have to forget the old images of toolbars and master the new concept of Ribbon - Ribbon.

Database MS Access stored in a single file with the extension “ .mdb" or " .mde". The file name can be up to 255 characters long. To save data Access uses the database engine JET(Join Engine Technology). AT Access versions older than 2002 to create applications of the client-server architecture, the use of technology is provided SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine, which is an alternative to the kernel JET.

After launch, the integrated development environment appears on the screen IDE (Integrated Development Environment), consisting of the following elements:

a menu system that contains commands used when working with Access ;

toolbars providing quick access to the most frequently used design environment commands;

· database window, including objects: tables, queries, forms, reports, macros and program modules;

a panel of elements that provides a set of tools used in the development of forms and reports (opened by the menu command View / Toolbox ) ;

· a properties window that allows you to set the properties of database objects (opened by the menu command View / Properties ).

The MS Access help system provides contextual access to help information using the key . After executing the command Help / Help: Microsoft Access you can choose one or another action to search for the necessary information.

Immediately after starting the program Access user can create new DB. Every relation of a relational DB presented in the form of a table. Tables are the main element DB. When creating new tables, the mode is usually Constructor . The view of its window is shown in Fig.29.

To create a table in mode Constructor need: enter the window DB; press the button tables and then button Create ; in the window New table select element Constructor ; define each field in the table.

Mode window Constructor consists of two parts:

The top one is used to define the field names: Field Name, Data Type, Description;

The lower one is used to determine field properties.

Figure 29 - Mode window Constructor when working with a table.

Each field name is limited to 64 characters. Field Data type should provide the most efficient way to store relevant information in a field. The description field is the comments to the field Field name.

Used data types: text(most common) MEMO to store long text, numeric, date/time, counter for numbering records, logical, monetary, field object OLE , hyperlink, type of Substitution Wizard(Fig. 30).

Figure 30 - Used data types.

Each table field has a set of properties associated with it that can be used to customize how the field stores data, how the field works, and how it is displayed on the screen. So, for example, the property Field size defines the maximum data size and is associated with data type (t text, numeric, counter ) .

In laboratory work, the description of the subject area at the infological level is considered to be given. Therefore, in accordance with the individual task (clause 2.4), the student is given the names of the main fields and the names of the tables. After creating the structure of tables, selecting data types and field properties, as well as setting key and indexed fields, the creation of tables is considered complete.

However, development DB does not end with creating tables. The tables are then populated with relevant data that can be used in forms, queries, and reports. In addition, an application (program) is usually created that controls the data processing logic in Access .

In practice, filling in the tables is carried out through special forms. However, in the lab, we will first populate the tables and then proceed to develop the application. Therefore, it is necessary to be very careful when filling out tables and exclude both syntactic and spelling errors, which can inevitably lead to the occurrence of various anomalies and, as a result, the “refusal” of the DBMS in creating links. Data schemas(datological model).

After the tables are created, links are established between them to maintain the integrity of the data and their joint processing (Fig. 25). Relationships between tables are based on their common field. In this case, one of the tables is usually the main (parent), and the other is the subordinate (child). The link type reflects the correspondence of linked records in the main and subordinate tables.

DBMS Access , usually finds and fixes failures in DB upon opening it. If she can't do it, then to recover DB use the menu command Tools / Utilities / Compact and Repair Database .

For performance analysis DB serve Table parser and Performance Analyzer , accessed via the command Analysis menu Service . However, this is only possible by installing the appropriate Wizards. Access .

Work order

2.3.1 Usage example DB. To study, you can refer to DB"Northwind" as a prototype application development.

Start the system Access: Help / Database examples. Open the Northwind database. Open one of the tables DB"Northwind", for example, the table "Employees", using the command Open window DB or the same context menu command. View the contents of the table by moving through the records and fields, jumping to a record with a specific number. Search and replace text in fields, sort records, view records using a filter (right-click).

In mode Constructor View data types, field descriptions, and field properties. Pay attention to: the field "Order code" (type Counter ), field "Note" (type MEMO ), the field "Photo" (object OLE).

2.3.2 Create a new database and its tables in accordance with the individual task below. File name DB must match the assignment. To create all tables, use the mode Constructor.

2.3.3 In the properties window for each table, set the necessary indexes, as well as keys - using the button key field toolbar. In indexed (key) fields, depending on the type of index (key), select the option Matches allowed/Matches are not allowed. The presence of an index speeds up query execution, as well as data sorting and grouping operations. You can use the button to view and change indexes. Indices toolbar Table constructor (Fig. 31).

Figure 31 - Creating a key field and a composite index

Defining a primary key ensures that the values of the corresponding set of fields (fields) are unique. In design mode, the primary key is marked with a key icon. If the primary key is a composite key, then all the fields included in it must be marked with a key icon.

2.3.4 Fill in each of the created tables in the mode tables at least 10-20 entries. Increasing the number of records allows you to increase the possibility of learning the functionality of the DBMS. In the future, you will create queries, filter, etc., therefore, in the tables Orders, Ordered provide for duplicate entries: customer name, type, quantity, manager, order date - this will allow you to effectively carry out filtering, generalization and search operations.

Learn how to edit, copy and paste text and records using the clipboard, and how to delete records and check spelling in a spreadsheet. The appearance of the table can be changed using the menu commands Format (choice of font, display options for fields, displaying and hiding columns).

2.3.5 Define relationships between tables DB. To set relationships between the corresponding tables, open the window Data Schema , click the shared field in the main table, and drag it to the location of the shared field in the subtable. If the common field is the primary key in the master table, then Access allows you to support integrity data ( referential integrity ). In this case, in the dialog box that opens Connections you can configure the communication parameters and set the desired type of data integrity (Figure 32). In the same window, using the Join button, you can set the type of table join.

Figure 32 - Creating links

2.3.6 Export the table Product into the format HTML- document. Use the command for this File /Export . Set the file name and file type to HTML Documents. Open this file in a browser, compare with the original table (Fig. 33).

Figure 33 - Table export Product into the format HTML

2.3.7 Explore the tools Access to ensure database security and access restrictions to it, based on the creation accounts user groups and setting access rights for them.

By default, the system has two working groups: administrators (group Admins) and users (group Users). Creating and deleting accounts is done by the command Service / Protection / Users and groups , changing access rights - by command Service / Protection / Permissions .

You can protect the database from unauthorized access with a password. To do this, in the dialog box Opening a database file checkbox must be checked Monopoly , the password is assigned by the command Service / Protection / Set data password (Fig. 34).

Figure 34 - Protecting the database from unauthorized access

Comment! If the password is forgotten, the database cannot be opened!

2.3.8 Prepare a report, check the preparation for control questions and protect the work.

Individual tasks
