In the last Lesson #16, we learned how to create Bookmarks to remember site addresses in order to be able to quickly and easily open frequently visited sites without manually entering the site address into the address bar. Thus, we have added comfort to ourselves when working on a computer. The computer has another feature with which the level of comfort can be increased even more. For to quickly open your favorite sites, you can configure the Express panel. It is a visual table of rectangular cells displayed on the screen. The number of horizontal and vertical rows of the table is set as desired.
In each cell, after setting up the express panel, a picture of the saved site will be displayed. The picture is an active link, that is, when you click on the picture, this particular site opens. The convenience of using the express panel is that you do not need to remember not only the address of the frequently visited site, but even the name that you gave it in your bookmarks. You will recognize the desired site by the image in the picture.
Almost all modern browsers (viewers) have a similar function. Worst of all, the situation is with the Internet Explorer browser, only in the new version 9 of this browser did the express panel function appear. But at the same time, the Windows operating system must be installed on the computer at least version 7. Since I have the Windows XP operating system on my computer, I will not be able to show the installation of the express panel for this browser. I think that many people will be able to install the panel for Internet Explorer by analogy with the procedure shown in this and the next lesson.
IN Opera browser(starting from version 9) the express panel is built in by default. Therefore, first I will talk about setting it up in this browser. See the next lesson for setting up the panel in the Firefox browser.
Regardless of which browser you are using, I recommend that you read this article first, because in the future, many of the actions will be similar to those of today's lesson.
If you use the Opera browser, then when you open it, you see three horizontal and three vertical rows of rectangular cells, inside which website images are displayed. By clicking on the "Yandex" picture, you will immediately go to the site of the "Yandex" search engine. The same will happen with other pictures. Try to do this, returning each time to the previous state using the arrow in the upper left corner of the screen. When you hover over it, the tooltip "Express Panel" pops up.
Let's set up the Express Panel. To do this, in the lower right corner on a place free from rectangular cells, click the RIGHT mouse button.
A window with two lines will pop up. Click "Customize Speed Dial".
In the "Number of columns" row, use the blue arrow on the right to select "Columns: 4". Left-click on an empty field. The appearance has changed, we see two rows of cells and four cells in a row.
Click the mouse in an empty gray cell. A window will appear with a line for entering the address and with pictures of suggested sites to remember. Enter the address of the site you want to remember in the line. If among the pictures there is a site you need, click on this picture, its address will appear in the line.
I clicked on the picture of the Pensionerka online store, as a result of which the address of this WEB page fit into the address bar.
A canceled site image will appear in the former gray empty rectangle of the express panel. Click OK.
An image of the memorized WEB-page appeared in the cell, under the picture the system itself added the name "Online store of health products".
A new empty cell has appeared to the right. Let's fill it in the same way.
I entered the site address in the line " Petersburg pensioner": http: // site It was instantly drawn in the cell. Under the picture, the system added the name " Information and educational magazine". You can edit the name yourself, writing a shorter and more convenient one.
To do this, right-click on the picture, then "Edit", etc.
Below there is another horizontal line with an empty rectangle.
In order to change the picture and address of one of the saved sites, click on this picture with the RIGHT button, a window will appear in which click "Edit".
A window will appear with the address bar highlighted in blue.
I will enter the address http://pensionerka.net in this line, and in the line "Name" I will enter: Pensioner.
I click "OK".
The site in the cell has been replaced.
Thus, you can fill the cells until their number becomes equal to four horizontally and vertically. After that, the fifth row will appear, but the pictures have decreased in size and do not fill the entire screen.
There are two options:
Right-click on an empty field, select "Customize Express Panel", change the number of columns, putting five instead of four.
Pictures will fill the entire screen, but will decrease in size. By increasing the number of columns, you can fit many cells on the screen, while reducing their size.
The second option: you can leave four columns, but in the line "Scaling" instead of "Automatic" select "Manual", then move the scale slider to the right and set 100%.
Now the number of columns on the screen remains four. But a vertical blue scroll bar appeared on the right. Place the cursor on it and, without releasing, drag up or down. This setting option makes it possible to have an unlimited number of rows with cells and a sufficiently large size of pictures.
In order to change the location of the pictures, grab the picture with the left button and move it to the place where you want to put it. If you overlay a picture on top of an already occupied cell, then the bottom picture (and all the others) will move to the right. To remove a site from the panel, click on this picture with the RIGHT button, a window will appear in which click "Delete".

If such a Cyrillic address is written in the site address bar when setting up the express panel, then an error will occur when opening the site by clicking on the filled cell.
In order for programs and services to know how Cyrillic domains actually look like in Latin, there is a certain service, the active link to which looks like:

If necessary, use this service, open it at the link.
Enter a Cyrillic address in the "Domain" field and click the "Translate" button.
Copy the received code in Latin characters and enter it into the site address bar when setting up the express panel.

Installation

All modern browsers are currently supported, including Firefox, Opera and Chrome (including browsers based on it). Edge was not included in this list, since at the current stage of its development it does not support extensions at all.
Bookmarks bar "Yandex"
The first thing that will meet the user after installing the extension is a modified start page. It contains frequently visited or pinned by the user sites, information about the weather and exchange rates. Also at the bottom are links to access recently closed tabs, the download bar, bookmarks, and browser history. The most important part of this page is the smart search bar, which can provide an answer to a query even before going to the search page. In practice, this means that if you are looking for the weather in a certain city, you will see the result right in the search bar, the same applies to the exchange rate and mathematical calculations (in fact, we have a calculator and converter built into the search). Or if you are looking for some famous person, place, movie, then a smart search box will immediately redirect you to a Wikipedia page or answer a simple question on its own (for example, the question of how long to cook dumplings).
The panel is a customizable page (the "Settings" button in the lower right corner), the user has the right to choose how many sites will be displayed on the page (up to 25 pieces), you can add your sites to the Yandex panel, you can change the background (images from the collection are offered, but you can upload your own. Also in the settings you can allow or deny access to geolocation data and disable the search bar.
Separately, it is worth talking about the Yandex express panel in the Opera browser. Its functionality and appearance are different from those in Chrome and Firefox. The fact is that some versions of this browser already have a built-in bookmarks bar. "Yandex" offers to expand its capabilities by adding interactive pages with services. For example, the weather or information about traffic jams will be displayed right on the start page, the user will not even have to visit the relevant pages, and quick links to the main, popular Yandex services will also appear. In new versions of the browser (built on Chromium), the panel works the same way as in Chrome.
Additional elements
The Yandex panel, in addition to the changes to the start page described above, offers much more. This is a whole set of tools for working with company services. This is a kind of "Yandex" that organizes quick access to mail, disk, music player, weather and traffic data, and other services. You must have an account to use them.

After you install the Yandex panel, in addition to the usual ones, a mail icon will appear in the top line of your browser, after clicking on which a window with the latest received letters will open in front of you. Unfortunately, you will not be able to work with mail in this way, you can only find out the sender, subject and view a small preview of the contents of the letter. Despite the fact that the weather widget is on the Yandex express panel, it can also be added to the taskbar, where you can see a more detailed forecast for the whole day, and not just the current temperature outside the window. Instant access to the free Yandex.Music player. This widget allows you to play, stop and switch tracks without visiting the service page. For the widget to work, you need a functioning Yandex.Music account with a full library.
Translations
This small but useful tool will be a real lifesaver for those who are familiar with English and other foreign languages. Unlike the widgets described above, which take up space in this element, it is integrated into the context menu, called by pressing the right mouse button, and allows you to translate the selected text without unnecessary gestures.
This extension will help those who love online shopping. When you view certain products in RuNet, if there are any in the Yandex.Market service, the adviser will find the most advantageous offers with the opportunity to purchase in your region.
Security
Closes the line of extensions is a tool for ensuring network security. This widget is equipped with a database of websites checked for viruses, scammers and phishing (theft of logins and passwords). How to install Opera on a computer
First of all, you can install the opera on your computer for free on the website (always the latest version). Click on the link and the download page will open.

How to set up Opera
All settings in Opera are located at the top left of the browser.. Click on the icon and the context menu opens, which contains all the settings.
What refers to what can be seen from the description, and to the right of the inscription, there is a small triangle, when clicked, a context menu opens. for example, the figure shows that "Settings" is pressed and here you can set general, quick settings, etc.
It will probably be right that we first install a search engine that will open by default (that is, every time it starts). Right now, only the developer welcome page opens.
Go to the menu (icon in the upper left corner)> Settings>General settings.
The "Basic" tab is open (there are others - Forms, Search.Web pages, Advanced). Next to the inscription “Home”, there is a field in which the Opera home page is now registered, which will always open (which we did not need - we erase this entry). Therefore, here we enter the address of the search engine that you need, for example, Yandex http://www.yandex.ru/ or Google http://www.google.ru But that's not all. click the triangle next to the inscription At startup. A menu will open in which we set up what will open at startup:
- Continue from the point of disconnection- at the next start, the web page that was at the close will open;
- Load saved session − the saved session opens;
- Start from homepage- the page that is assigned as such will open - we did this when we registered the page address in the Home field;
- Open Express Panel- it will open (how to configure it, read below):
- Show launch window- it will seem - see. Figure - each time you start a window will open in which you select what you want to run.
After making changes, press the button OK. Now, when you start the browser, a search engine will open (if the option to download from the home page is selected).
Opera express panel

There are several ways to open the express panel in opera. You can make it open every time you start it. To do this, Menu>Settings>General settings> At startup, select the option Open express panel and press the OK button.
Or, in any case, in an open browser, there is a plus icon next to the open tab.

When you hover over any picture, a cross will appear in the lower right corner - if you click it, the picture bookmark will disappear. There is nothing in the last picture, and a plus sign in the middle. If you click on this plus, the settings window will open. Consider typical tasks.
Bookmark your favorite site
So, I like, for example, a site about jokes. In the search engine I type the phrase “jokes” and in the results of the issue I click on the link to the site with jokes, and it opened.
Now, to the right of the tab, click on the “plus” and the express panel will open in a new window. Now click the "+" icon and a window will open immediately.
Now you see a picture with a funny pig's face - our site about jokes. We click on the picture and on an empty place (where there was only a “+” sign) the same site appeared, click OK. It is done. A site appeared in bookmarks, which we wanted to be always at hand. You can also enter any site in the "Address" field and it will also appear in the bookmarks.
Setting up the express panel
We go into the panel (as described above) and in the upper right corner we press the wrench.
A window opens in which you can:
- Select a background image - put a tick in the "Background image" checkbox - the "Browse" button will immediately be highlighted, when clicked, a search window will open and you can upload any image file from your computer;
- Number of columns - click the triangle on the right and options will open;
- Scaling is the same.

After launching the browser, the initial page was opened, on which, as we can see, there is no Express panel. We click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen, and go to the control section of the home page to set up the Express Dial in Opera.
In the settings section of the home page that opens, simply check the box next to the "Express Panel" item.
After that, the Express panel turned on with all the tabs displayed on it.
In new versions of Opera, there is no option to disable the Express Panel on the very start page. But, this does not mean that in future versions this feature will not be returned again.

New interface design
The default browser includes several themes from which you can choose the one that suits you best. To download alternative themes, you need to:
- follow the link "Get new themes»;
- choose a topic;
- click on the button "Add to Opera".
To create your own theme, change the background, or if your Express Dial splash screen has disappeared, follow these steps:
- press "Create your own theme";
- choose your image;
- select image positioning options, as well as text display settings;
- click on the button "Create".
In this way, you can create a wallpaper for the express panel background.
Create a new element
To create a new element on the express panel, you must click on the "cross" and enter the site address or select the proposed options for pages and applications. You can also click on the other extensions button to select applications from the entire list.
Adding applications is done in the same way as installing themes. An alternative option for adding elements is to right-click on an empty area of the panel. In the menu that opens, you can select "Add to Express Panel" or "add extension".
How to change cells?
To change or delete the contents of a cell on the express panel, right-click on the bookmark or application and select the required item. Clicking item "Change" you can edit the name as well as the address of the visual tab.
Tabs in the Opera browser
When you add a cell, it automatically suggests different variations of the pages you've visited before. After adding, you can swap tabs by dragging them to the desired position.
Page folders
In addition to individual pages, you can also create folders that will contain tabs of various topics. How to add a folder? To create a folder, just drag one tab to another. Thus, you can create your own bookmark catalog. For folders, there is an “open all” function, to access which you need to right-click on the folder.
This function allows you to open all the tabs in this folder. Thus, you can create a folder with pages that you open daily to check news, mail, etc. You can also save all open pages to a folder. To do this, right-click on the area of open pages and click "Save tabs as folder in Speed Dial".
Express - panel on the main
By default, the express panel is installed on the start page.
If you have another page installed, then to make the start express panel, you must perform the following steps:
- click on the button Opera;
- select section "Settings";
- in section "At startup" select "Open homepage».
How to save the express panel in Opera and import it?
How to copy express panel settings? Unlike previous versions of Opera, in current versions, exporting and saving bookmarks is possible using synchronization or by moving files manually.
In order to find out where Opera stores files containing bookmark settings, you need to open the "About" section. To do this, open the menu Opera and select the item "About the program".
In the window that opens, next to the inscription "Profile" is the address for storing the tab settings files:
- "Bookmarks" files include settings for your saved pages;
- Stash files are responsible for the sites saved in the Piggy Bank;
- "favorites" files contain express panel settings.
How to import bookmarks? In order to restore the saved pages, you need to move the saved files to the same folder after reinstalling the browser and confirm the replacement. Bookmarking your favorite site You can also save the pages of your favorite sites to the Piggy Bank section.
This service allows you to get instant access to a page that you, for example, want to view later. To add a site to this section, click on the "heart" icon next to the address bar and select "Add Page to Piggy Bank".

Initially, the bookmarks bar in the Opera Express Dial is hidden.
To enable this panel, do the following:
