What does the red dot on apple watch mean. Notifications not coming to Apple Watch

In a box with Apple Watch Series 3, we found a miserly gentleman's kit: an induction tablet charger, a 1 A plug, a silicone strap with one additional clasp of a different length, and documentation.

Modifications

Apple Watch Series 3 with eSIM support, as well as modifications of Hermès and Edition in Russia, unfortunately, are not represented. So, variations with sapphire glass, steel and ceramic case We don't sell either.

What you can choose from: one of two sizes (38 mm and 42 mm), one of four colors silicone strap (smoky, pink, gray and black), depending on which one of the three colors aluminum housing (silver, gold and space gray).

There is also a modification of Nike + for athletes and fans of the brand of the same name - with thematic design of the dials and special mesh straps.

There is no difference in specifications depending on the size. The price difference is small - relative to the cost of the watch itself. Therefore, it should be guided only by personal preferences. I have an Apple Watch with a case length of 38 mm, and I really like it, I don’t feel infringed, I don’t want a “full-size” version.

Frame

The only point of contention is the choice specific model Apple watch. On the this moment officially sold models of the first and third series. If you need an iOS remote control, activity tracker, and workout tracking, the Apple Watch Series 1 is enough. If it's water-resistant and tracks swim tracks in the pool, listen to music without a smartphone, and have a hardware reserve for the future, the Apple Watch Series 3 is better.

Do you have a brand new Apple Watch? Congratulations! Sit back and put aside everything. You'll have to: pair your iPhone, update watchOS, customize your Apple Watch, and of course, install a few cool apps. I will tell about all this now.

My Bad First Time Experience

The first Apple Watch setup wasn't as quick as I expected. The process itself is very easy, but the speed of rebooting, charging and syncing takes some time. Therefore, having bought a new watch, do not think that you will set it up in 5 minutes in the nearest cafe for a cup of coffee and go for a walk around the city with it. In any case, I didn't succeed.

I bought an Apple Watch at the airport with more than two hours left before boarding. And I spent all that time charging, setting up, and updating watchOS.

The stumbling block was the charging itself. The clock was discharged into the trash and did not even want to turn on. I partially charged them from the "power bank". Doing it on the go is a challenge. Magnetic charging does not hold well and constantly falls off the watch.

After charging the watch to about 20 percent, I began the installation process Apple couples Watch with iPhone, but at the end of the application synchronization, the watch was discharged again and the whole process had to be started from the very beginning. Including the charger itself.

The second time everything worked out, but updating to the latest version of watchOS took some more time. In the end, after almost 2 hours, I got an Apple Watch ready to go with an almost empty battery, so I spent the next 2 hours of the flight on their full charge again.

But in fact, everything is not so bad. You can connect your Apple Watch to your iPhone much faster if you don't make my mistakes. On the re-creation Pairing an Apple Watch with an iPhone took me 15 minutes. But by this time, you need to add charging, time to install applications and watchOS updates. In any case, I recommend brewing coffee. Let's go!

How to Connect Apple Watch to iPhone

You'll need a charged Apple Watch, a Bluetooth-enabled phone, and the Watch app. Pairing devices is very intuitive: the watch and phone themselves tell you what to do and where to press. To connect your Apple Watch to your iPhone, you need to do the following:

  1. Charge your Apple Watch to at least 60%. Synchronization with an iPhone, setting up quickly “eat up” the battery. Yes and possible updates watchOS requires the watch to be at least 50% charged. This is very important point which will save you a lot of nerves. It will take approximately 55-60 minutes to charge the Apple Watch from 0% to 60%;

  1. Turn on your Apple Watch, holding the side button for a long time (if they do not turn on, then they are most likely very discharged and you need to charge your Apple Watch again). The watch will immediately ask you to select the interface language and go into pairing mode with the iPhone.

  1. Launch the Watch App on your iPhone and click on the "Pair with Apple Watch" button and aim the viewfinder iPhone cameras to the "galaxy" on the clock screen. The process is similar to scanning a regular QR code. That's it, your watch has met the iPhone. But that's just where the fun begins.

Follow the prompts on iPhone to complete the pairing process. You will be asked to perform a series of actions that are already familiar to many iPhone activation or iPad.

Setting and hand selection. If this is your first watch, then click Set Up as New Apple Watch. If you have set up before, you can click Restore from backup” and follow the instructions on the screen. Then press "Left" or "Right" on iPhone to select a hand.

  1. Enter apple password ID to use features such as Digital Touch and Handoff. If Find My iPhone is not enabled on iPhone, you will also be asked to enable it.

  1. P Check your settings. iPhone settings, set in the Diagnostics & Usage, Location Services, and Siri screens, will be transferred to Apple Watch and vice versa. Therefore, if the settings of these services change on one device, they will be updated on the second.

  1. Create a password. If you click "Create Password" or "Add long password» on iPhone, you can create personal code using Apple Watch. Then you need to decide whether the iPhone will automatically unlock the watch.

  1. Synchronize programs. Click "Install All" to sync iPhone programs compatible with Apple Watch. Click "Later" to sync only basic information such as Mail, Contacts, and Messages.

The duration of this process depends on the amount of data being synchronized. The devices should be close together until you hear a beep and feel a slight pulse from your Apple Watch.

The clock turned on. What's next?

Next, Apple Watch needs to be customized. And how to do it, I will tell on my personal example. In fact, my changes relate to almost all settings, so by setting the watch according to my instructions, you will immediately get acquainted with all Apple settings watch.

We will do all the watch settings through the Watch app for iPhone. Something can be configured right through the watch, but working with a small screen is not as convenient as with phones. So open the Watch app again and let's get started.

How to update your Apple Watch

For starters, it’s worth checking if there are fresh firmware for Apple Watch and update to the latest one. For this:

  1. Open the app watch
  2. Select "Basic"
  3. Click "Software Update"

If there is an update for the watch, the iPhone will let you know. To install it, just follow the instructions on the screen and the iPhone will do everything by itself. But remember that for installation, the watch and phone must be charged at least 50%.

How to install apps on Apple Watch

If you missed the item when setting the clock automatic installation all compatible with Apple Watch programs they will have to be installed manually.

All compatible programs available in the "My Watch" tab and are conditionally divided into two categories: software from Apple and everything else. To install the app on Apple Watch:

  1. Open the app watch;
  2. Select any application from the list (below);
  3. Tap Show on Apple Watch.

That's all. After a couple of seconds, the program will be installed on your Apple Watch and will appear in the application list.

In some applications you will see additional options like "Show in Preview", etc. We will return to these parameters a little later.

How to automatically install apps on Apple Watch

If a new application appears on the iPhone that has a version for Apple Watch, then it can be automatically installed on the watch. For this:

  1. Open the app watch;
  2. Go to the "My Watch" tab;
  3. Select "Basic";
  4. Select "Install programs";
  5. Turn on "Auto-install programs".

How to sort apps on Apple Watch

A list of all applications on the Apple Watch can be seen by clicking once on the wheel Digital Crown. In the center there is always a circle of the clock icon, and icons of other applications appear around them.

To not look for a long time desired program, I place the most necessary ones around the clock icon, that is, in the very center. For this:

  1. Open the app watch
  2. Go to the "My Watch" tab
  3. Select "Appearance"
  4. Place the icons in the right order

How to set up notifications on Apple Watch

When the necessary programs are installed, I move on to setting up notifications. By default, they are completely duplicated from your iPhone. But I prefer to keep only the really important ones. Not only is this less distracting, but it also saves the watch battery.

  1. Open the app watch
  2. Go to the "My Watch" tab
  3. Select "Notifications"

Scroll to the very bottom and turn off the notifications you don't want to see on your Apple Watch. I've got a couple dozen of these.

How to change Apple Watch screen brightness

There is no manual brightness control in the Apple Watch in the usual sense, it always changes automatically depending on the ambient light. But you can choose one of three algorithms automatic brightness. This can be done both on the watch itself and in Watch app on the iPhone.

  1. Open the app watch
  2. Go to the "Brightness and Text Size" tab
  3. Set the options you want

Personally, I set it to a minimum and do not experience any inconvenience, even at the equator. In the sun, the display is a little faded, but the information is still visible.

What Apple Watch Shows When Activated

Apple Watch automatically wakes up when you raise your hand to look at your watch. The watch face is displayed by default. But I love the latest running application. For this:

  1. Open the app watch
  2. Go to the "My Watch" tab
  3. Select "Basic"
  4. Select "Activate Screen" (bottom)
  5. Choose the desired action

Oh, by the way, when you are on the screen with the dial, then double tap on the wheel Digital Crown will open the last running application.

How to change the Apple Watch face

Unlike all previous paragraphs, setting Apple watch face Watch happens on the watch itself. To change the watch face on the Apple Watch, press the screen with a little pressure until you feel vibration feedback (pressing Forth Touch, like in the iPhone 6s). You will see a menu with a choice of possible dials. Choose the one you like and click "Customize".

Left-right swipes will move you between watch face settings, and you can adjust them by turning the Digital Crown.

most watch faces have space to display extensions from third party applications. These settings are on the last screen and are also changed with the Digital Crown. To save your changes, press the Digital Crown, then tap the watch face.

In conclusion

Everything you need to get started with your Apple Watch for the first time. Now you can move on to self-exploration of programs. Many of my favorite apps for iPhone already have versions for the Apple Watch, so you will have something to play with.

The Apple Watch was presented to the Russian public more than 2 years ago. Despite such a short period of existence on the market, the device fell in love with many users. Unfortunately, information about software and there are practically no additional functions of the watch.

Mysterious red dot: Where is the i button/icon on Apple Watch?

The Apple Watch's small display doesn't allow for colorful placement of shortcuts and program icons like the "i" icon on the display. The developers had to resort to a compact device interface. The owners of a newfangled gadget have to intuitively find explanations for certain symbols on the screen. For example, many users often wonder what is "i" in smart watches, if it is a button, then where is it located?

The "i" icon appearing on the right upper corner watch display is the iPhone connection icon. The symbol indicates that an additional device has been found, but the device cannot independently automatic mode sync with your phone. To pair your Apple Watch and iPhone user it is suggested to configure the connection manually. Photo: The i icon on the Apple Watch screen The symbol appears on the display for the first time, informing you to turn on your phone and set up a connection. While the connection operation is in progress, the icon moves to the lower right corner of the display.

Connecting Apple Watch to iPhone

In device settings from Apple connection peripheral gadgets to the main device (in our case, a smartphone) is set by default. In order for the devices to find each other, a number of simple manipulations should be performed:

  • It is necessary to turn on the watch and select the language that the owner will use.

  • On your smartphone, you must activate the found Apple Watch icon to start automatic synchronization.

  • When the "i" symbol changes its location on the screen, you should combine the phone's camera with the picture on the watch screen and click on the settings button of the hand-held gadget.

  • The program needs to be informed (entered) on which hand the user wears iWatch.
  • The clock display will show license agreement, which must be read and agree (or disagree) with the proposed rules.
  • The program will offer to track the owner's location and set up voice commands.
  • Next, you need to come up with a password, which must be duplicated on the phone.

  • The program on the iPhone will prompt you to install the application for using the watch.

  • After a few seconds, the connection will be completed. On subsequent contacts, the devices will find each other automatically.

In this article, we will talk about how you can arrange the Apple Watch desktop icons so that they are easy to use.

Navigation

If you are used to using a lot of applications from the AppStore, then it will be difficult and annoying for you to search for the desired program on Apple display watch. Worst of all, searching for Sportlight won't help you because it doesn't exist. But do not be upset, as there are as many as five methods for organizing icons on the watch screen.

Method 1: Arrange Icons in a Specific Shape

There are many convenient forms in which applications can be arranged. They were invented ordinary users, which also faced awkward app searches. The following forms are especially popular:

If you arrange the icons in this way, you will be able to view all applications within the same screen without having to scroll or resize it. Each Apple Watch owner has the ability to change the shape for themselves, for example, install frequently used programs closer to the center, and place those that open least often on the edge.

Method 2: Divide apps into groups

This advice is not much different from the first one, since it implies the arrangement of icons in groups.

For example, if you have several activity tracking programs, then place them around standard application and after a couple of hours you will already get used to the new location.

Method 3: Place the clock in the center of the screen

Putting the Clock app in the center of your home screen has two benefits. First of all, frequently used programs are easier to open because they are separated from others. In addition, all new applications will accumulate on one side, and this saves time searching for them.

Method 4. Removing excess

Many of the users complain about inconvenient navigation due to the large number of extra programs available in the watch. So one option is a big purge. You can safely delete everything unused applications, and if they are required, then installation from an iPhone will take only a couple of minutes.

Method 5. Change the position of icons through iPhone

Many do not know this possibility, but it is recommended to change the location of applications through the application on the iPhone. In this case, the process will be not only fast, but also convenient, since with big screen alignment is much easier.

Along with new iPhone company Apple has also updated its line of smart watch. The third generation of the Apple Watch may not boast of radical improvements, but it pleases with additional sensors and modes of operation, and also promises a smoother experience thanks to the new SoC. We got acquainted with the clock and used it in real life. This article has all the details!

Before proceeding to the description of innovations and impressions from Apple use Watch Series 3, let's deal with the current model range Apple watch.

As we remember first Apple Watch came out in two sizes (42 and 38 mm) and two types of materials: aluminum Apple Watch Sport with Ion-X glass and steel Apple Watch with sapphire crystal. In addition, there was also an elite Apple series watch edition, but it can be ignored, since a million hours is a very tiny segment.

When the manufacturer introduced the second generation of watches a year later, there was no longer a steel version, but the first generation was still on sale in all its diversity. And now, with the release of Apple Watch Series 3, it was decided not to confuse customers completely and by a strong-willed decision to limit the choice of size (42 or 38 mm), generation (Series 1 or Series 3; Series 2 watches are no longer represented in Apple Store) and color (Silver, Gold, White, or Space Gray).

Alas, now you can't buy a watch with a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal, although it was a truly remarkable design decision. You can’t even choose between Series 2 and Series 3. On the other hand, the price of Series 1 has dropped to 18,490 rubles, so the selection strategy has become extremely simple: if you want to save money, take any version of Series 1, if you want much wider functionality - Series 3. At the same time, in plan appearance they practically do not differ (with the exception of color and straps, of course).

Let's explore Apple specifications Watch Series 3 and compare them with the previous two generations.

* Prices and offers are for models with aluminum case and silicone strap

Of course, according to these characteristics, little can be said about the innovations of the Apple Watch Series 3, especially compared to the Series 2. Apple does not disclose details about single-chip systems: not even the frequency of the CPU cores is reported. It is only known that there are two of them in all SoCs, but Series 3 has the most productive SoC.

We cannot verify this with any tests, but traditionally the difference will be felt with the release of new versions of watchOS. Let's say on the very first Apple watch new watchOS 4 slows down noticeably.

As we can see, the main difference is the potential availability of the version with cellular communication. However, it should be noted that such options are not officially sold in Russia yet, since our operators do not yet support this option in the form as it is implemented by Apple (via eSIM and using the same number with the iPhone). However, I think it's a matter of time.

We will talk about other differences in this article.

Equipment

aluminum packaging Apple versions The Watch Series 3 looks the same as the first generation Apple Watch Series 2 and Apple Watch Sport. This is an elongated box made of thick cardboard.

The package bundle of the novelty is identical to that of the models of previous generations: in addition to the watch itself, it is a silicone strap (with a spare half smaller- so that you can choose the best for your hand), Charger 5V 1A, USB cable with wireless charging tablet at the end and leaflets with information for the user.

Charger from new Apple Watch is fully compatible with Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 1. And vice versa. Therefore, accessories will also work - for example, a convenient docking station.

Design

The appearance of the novelty does not differ from its predecessor (Series 2). This is the same aluminum rectangular case with rounded corners and edges, as well as with two buttons on the right side.

One of these buttons is oblong, the other is round, at the same time acting as a wheel that can be turned (Digital Crown). There is a feeling that the wheel scrolls more smoothly, and the button presses, on the contrary, are a little tighter. But, firstly, we cannot directly compare, and secondly, even if this is so, then this is a plus, since it should have reduced the likelihood of accidental clicks and simplified the use of the wheel.

The screen size remains the same. We had the 42mm version, a 38mm version is also available for sale. On the back side we see a heart rate sensor, buttons for detaching the strap. The circular area around the sensor is ceramic. On the left side are holes for the speaker and microphone.

The thickness of the novelty is the same as that of the Apple Watch Series 2, which is a millimeter more than that of the first Apple Watch and is apparently explained by enhanced moisture protection and the presence of more capacious battery. However, the watch on the wrist looks no worse than the first generation model. The only pity is that there is no way to choose versions from other materials, but we have already complained about this and will not repeat ourselves.

The preservation of dimensions has one important plus: absolutely all models of all Generations of Apple Watch, including Series 3, is fully compatible with all released straps. Considering that some of these straps are more expensive than the watch itself (for example, a steel block bracelet), it would simply be unfair to the people who bought them to change the fastening of the straps in a new generation of watches.

At the same time, Apple continues to expand the range of straps. And we'll talk about it in next section articles.

Straps 2017

Over the past six months, Apple has expanded the line several times. Most Last update, timed to coincide with the release of the Apple Watch Series 3, has become, as expected, the most radical, but there are a lot of interesting things among the spring-summer models. We managed to get acquainted with them and some even used them in everyday life.

Let's start with the most striking novelty: a nylon Velcro strap. Apple is consistently expanding the types of fasteners. Velcro fastening has been added to the magnetic clasps, classic buckle, butterfly buckle and sports strap button.

Here the strap is a continuous band without division into halves. It is attached to the clock with plastic blocks. And on the hand is fixed, respectively, with the help of five Velcro. The advantage of this option is that you can adjust the size of the strap to your hand as flexibly as possible - up to a millimeter.

The surface of the strap itself is made of nylon threads. different colors, this creates interesting shades: for example, the photo shows a black strap, but thanks to the threads of other colors (it’s hard to even make out which ones), an unusual combination is obtained. In our opinion, this strap will go well with a sweater or any other fluffy clothes of the autumn-winter type.

Another new strap is a variation of the nylon straps. The essence is the same (fastening, clasp, combination of threads of two colors), but the very arrangement of the threads is different, which is why the pattern turns out to be very different from what it was before.

Add to this the spring-summer collection of nylon straps. They keep old type weaving, but the approach to color changes. If earlier intertwined threads of two colors formed a single color field, now there are options with multi-colored stripes. For example, the variant in the photo below is what Apple calls “yellow pollen.”

In the meantime, we were able to appreciate three color options in everyday life: "red", "blue lake" and "yellow pollen" (in addition to the previously described black). They are suitable for casual clothes and suggest the presence of some bright elements in clothes. Ideally, the same shades in other details of clothing.

So for mods, this is, of course, an interesting task. But note that the colors do not look flashy or vulgar (for example, "wild berry" is much more universal option than any other type of pink strap). And the "blue lake" is a great option for denim.

In addition, we note that when worn for a long time on the arm, nylon straps do not cause any discomfort. On the contrary, over time, they take the form of a hand - as if they were created especially for you. It's nice. And for those who do not plan on active sports use of the watch, a nylon strap is a very good alternative to a silicone or Nike strap (their cost is identical - about 4,000 rubles at the time of writing).

These are, of course, summer decisions. However, in the fall they can be relevant - I want to keep the summer mood, even when it's dark and slush outside the window.

There are also new colors for straps made of other materials. Moreover, along with the color, the texture of the surface was updated, so the straps began to feel differently. A striking example is a yellow leather strap with a classic buckle.

First, it is actually tri-color: the outer color is yellow, the inner surface is a natural (dark beige) color, and the edges are gray. And secondly, the leather here is softer and more elastic than in the case of a brown strap and, especially, black (we wrote about them earlier). In addition, oddly enough, the buckle itself is different, although it cannot be said that for the worse or better side. She's just a little different.

As for the color itself, it is slightly lighter and brighter than in the photographs, without an orange tint. And it looks very cool - it gives a summer mood and becomes a great accent when worn with neutral clothes.

In addition, back in the spring, regular sports straps appeared in the colors "smoky blue", "pollen yellow" and "flamingo pink", and the most widely updated line of Nike straps. Light Purple/White, Purple Dust/Plum Haze, Orbit Blue/Gamma Blue, and Obsidian/Black diversify the previously modest set of austere hues.

Screen

Size and Resolution Apple screen Watch Series 3 has not changed compared to the first and second generations. The watch is available in two display sizes: 38mm and 42mm. Accordingly, their resolution also differs: 272×340 and 312×390, respectively. We had a watch with a screen diagonal of 42 mm and a screen resolution of 312 × 390.

We conducted a detailed examination of the screen using measuring instruments. Below is the conclusion of Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a scratch-resistant glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface curved to the edges. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen, (effective, slightly better than Google Nexus 7 (2013)), so fingerprints are much easier to remove and appear at a slower rate than with conventional glass. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are slightly better than those of google screen Nexus 7 2013. For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens:

The screen on the Apple Watch Series 3 is a bit darker (brightness in photos is 105 versus 113 on the Nexus 7). There is no reflection doubling, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen. When displaying a white field in full screen, the maximum brightness value we recorded was about 650 cd / m² (with bright backlight on the screen), the minimum was 60 cd / m² (first stage of adjustment, lighting in the office).

It’s worth mentioning here: Apple promises brightness up to 1000 cd / m², but it’s impossible to check this, because when measuring brightness, the light sensor is partially blocked and the brightness is automatically reduced, and it’s impossible to disable this setting. So we could not confirm the numbers promised by the manufacturer, but we have no reason not to trust Apple.

As already said, automatic adjustment Brightness by light sensor always works. The user can only make adjustments to the operation of this function by selecting one of the three levels. At any brightness level there is a modulation with a frequency of 60 Hz, but its amplitude is small, so flicker is not visible. Graphs of brightness (vertical axis) versus time (horizontal axis) illustrate the above:

This screen uses an AMOLED matrix - active matrix on organic light emitting diodes. A full-color image is created using subpixels of three colors - red (R), green (G) and blue (B) in equal amounts, which is confirmed by a fragment of a microphoto:

For comparison, you can see used in mobile technology.

The spectra are typical for OLED - the primary color areas are well separated and have the form of relatively narrow peaks:

However, there is also cross-mixing of components ( programmatically), so the coverage is not overly wide, but adjusted to the sRGB borders:

Accordingly, typical images (with sRGB coverage) on the screen Apple watch Watch have a natural saturation. Unfortunately, color profiles are not supported (or not transferred when copying images to the watch), so even wide color gamut images still display as sRGB. The color temperature of the white and gray fields is approximately 7350 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is 4.4-4.7 units. Color balance good. Black is just black from any angle. It is so black that the contrast setting is not applicable in this case. At perpendicular view white field uniformity is excellent. The screen has excellent viewing angles with a much smaller drop in brightness when viewed from an angle compared to LCD screens, but at higher angles the white fades noticeably into blue. Overall, the quality of the Apple Watch screen is very high.

New opportunities

The watch comes preloaded with watchOS 4.0. You can read about its main innovations in, and what is said there is true for all generations of Apple Watches. Recall that even the very first generation is compatible with the latest OS. Here, we'll take a look at features and functionality that are specific to the Apple Watch Series 3 and not available on older models.

So, perhaps, the main innovation of the Apple Watch Series 3, apart from LTE communication, is not yet available for Russian users, this is a constant and fairly deep monitoring of cardiac activity. As Apple rightly points out, cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death today, especially among men. Moreover, their danger is that for quite a long time a person, already being unhealthy, may not feel any discomfort and, therefore, does not take any measures to prevent a heart attack or the like.

In addition, regular medical examinations in Russia are still not established, and obtaining health certificates is nothing more than a formality. Yes, and somehow it is not customary for us to go without any complaints and check the heart. Therefore, the importance of constant monitoring of the work of the heart is difficult to overestimate. It is clear that with diagnostics in medical centers and this cannot be compared with the use of professional equipment, and it is foolish to expect that the watch will immediately diagnose us (although, who knows, maybe in 10 years we will live to see this). But the Apple Watch Series 3 can alert you if it notices heart rate problems. And even if it's a mistake, it's better to play it safe.

So let's take a closer look at how this happens.

While you're wearing Apple Watch Series 3, the watch automatically measures your heart rate every few minutes. At the same time, they correlate the received information with your current activity (which, of course, is reported by other sensors - an accelerometer and a gyroscope), and if you sat still for 10 minutes, but the pulse exceeded the specified threshold (by default, this is 120 beats minute), the clock will warn you.

You can view or change your settings in the Watch app on your iPhone by going to the Heart Rate section.

In addition, the watch measures heart rate variability, that is, the difference in time between two heartbeats. This figure should be small.

All your heart monitoring information is automatically exported to the Health app. There, in a visual form, you can see to what values \u200b\u200band when your heart rate rose, what was the average heart rate for a certain period of time, and other useful information.

In fact, from household non-professional Apple devices Watch Series 3 now collects and provides maximum information about the work of the heart. Moreover, what is important, without any effort of the user. That is, you do not need to start measurements, then do something with the results, etc. You just wear the watch - and then you see all the results in the application on the iPhone.

Another innovation of the Apple Watch Series 3 is the appearance of an altimeter. Thanks to him, the watch can measure the number of floors climbed and generally record your ascents and descents. Note that in everyday use, the same information can be collected by the iPhone - and in the Health app, it is the iPhone that is listed as a priority source. But, for example, on a hike or when playing sports, the watch will be clearly a more convenient tool.

And the last innovation, available only on the Apple Watch Series 3: Siri can now talk through the speaker of the watch (and the sound is quite clear and loud) or through AirPods headphones. The manufacturer claims that this has become possible thanks to a new, more efficient processor. Of course, it is difficult to call this an important innovation, but in certain situations it can really be useful.

Offline work

As before, we do not have tools that allow us to test battery life with any accuracy. Apple work Watch Series 3 - only subjective impressions. But if you rely on them, it turns out that Apple has really great job, and three days of work without recharging is already quite a reality for her watch.

Note that the first Apple Watch updated to watchOS 4.0 worked for us for no more than two days. So there is a positive trend. Of course, the more intensively you use the watch, the faster it will run out, but if you use the Series 3 solely for notifications and time viewing, then you can safely count on three days.

conclusions

Speaking of the non-LTE version, the Apple Watch Series 3 is a rather modest upgrade. The vast majority of the innovations reported by the manufacturer are associated with watchOS 4, and not with the watch itself. Therefore, if you have an Apple Watch Series 2, then there is no reason to update, of course. If you Apple owner Watch Series 1, it all depends on whether you need the innovations that we noted in Series 2, and whether the watch slows down with watchOS 4. The very first generation (which, recall, was functionally identical to Series 1, but with twice slower SoC) slowdowns and "thoughtfulness" were. So if you have the very first Apple Watch, then it’s worth updating, and if you have Series 1, you still need to think carefully.

Perhaps, main feature Apple Watch Series 3 is serious heart monitoring. And this, perhaps, is an important argument, especially if you are a man over 40. But the main thing is that this is a very productive signal for the entire industry and an attempt to respond to the remaining topical issue: why do we need smart watches at all?

Other innovations - the appearance of an altimeter and the possibility of a voice response to Siri - can hardly be considered really significant. But, strictly speaking, Apple does not offer to compare Series 3 and Series 2. In official store now only Series 3 and Series 1 are sold, so the third generation just replaced the second, adopting all its features (waterproofing, GPS) and adding a few of its own. This is probably a boring situation for reviewers and technologists, I would like the Series 3 to be a more serious step forward. But, on the other hand, one cannot help but rejoice that Apple is developing not only the hardware, but also the software, and even owners of models of previous generations can take advantage of watchOS 4 innovations.

From the same opera - and new straps, of which there are many (if you count everything released after the Apple Watch Series 2). They, like operating system, perfect for everyone Apple models Watch ever released. And for this you can even forgive the lack of updating the watch design. Yes, again, boring, but full compatibility with all existing straps. Apple is clearly trying to convey to the doubters the idea: buy our watches now, they will be relevant for a long time. And to make it easier for them to make this decision, the manufacturer has lowered the prices of the Series 1, so that the threshold for entering the “Apple Watch Owners Club” has become lower than ever.
