Which is better than an iPhone 7 or 7s. Design, body materials, dimensions

On September 7, the annual presentation of Apple took place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (San Francisco), at which, according to tradition, updates and novelties of apple products, including the iPhone, were presented. This is the seventh and, over the past few years, the best renovation of Apple's smartphone lineup. The changes affected everything: starting with the abandonment of the Mini-Jack, which was replaced by the Lightning connector, and ending with the appearance of a dual camera with a double optical zoom. But no matter how many emazings and bests sounded from the lips of the Cupertinians, the minds of real geeks are excited by only one question: is the new iPhone worthy of the title of the best smartphone? Or will it go to the main competitor - the flagship Galaxy S7 from Samsung? Let's figure it out.

Design

Samsung's flagships (Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge) were presented more than six months ago. The Koreans took into account all the previous mistakes, so smartphones turned out to be really "sweet". There are not many changes compared to the S6, but they are significant. It's hard to find fault with the latest flagships of the S line, the design is no exception. The older model, the S7 Edge, turned out to be especially tasty. The body of the device is a symbiosis of metal and 3D glass. However, such a duet also has an unpleasant side - soiled. The back cover of the smartphone collects fingerprints better than any fingerprint scanner.

The main difference between the younger S7 model is the diagonal of the smartphone - 5.1 ″ versus 5.5 ″, as well as the number of rounded sides of the screen - one against two in the S7 Edge.

The display is made using Super AMOLED technology and has a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440). However, the younger version has a slightly higher density (534 versus 577 ppi). Glass - Gorilla Glass 4.

Between the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, in addition to the screen size, battery size and weight (188/138 g), there is another, more serious difference - the cameras.

The diagonal of the display of the younger version is 4.7 ″ (1334 x 750; 326 ppi), the older version is 5.5 ″ (1920 x 1080; 401 ppi). The brightness is 25% higher than that of the sixth generation.

In terms of design, the 7 and 7 Plus have the same design (except for the cameras, of course). The company decided to abandon the Space Gray option, adding two new colors to the palette: "black onyx" with a glossy finish and matte black. The first option looks nice, but it scratches even from the fingers.

If it were a smartphone from any other company, design comparisons would be much easier. In this case, I expect massive discontent in the comments, so I will refrain from the conclusion, leaving it at the discretion of the reader.

Iron

To begin with, the devices of both companies work on different systems, and what is good for one is not an option for the other.

CPU. The flagships of the S7 / 7 Edge are available in two variations: with the Exynos 8890 (2.3GHz, 1.6GHz) or the Snapdragon 820 (2.2GHz, 1.6-1.7GHz). The first version is international, the second is for the USA and China. Exynos processors are a proprietary development of Samsung.

Both versions of the SoC are built on 14nm FinFET technology (produced on the same pipeline), however, Exynos is eight-core, while Snapdragon has four cores.

The models are comparable in power, but show distinctive results in synthetic tests. This is due to the difference in clock speed and differences in graphics modules.

IPhone 7/7 Plus has a quad-core A10 Fusion processor (with M10 motion coprocessor) running on a 64-bit system. It has a similar architecture to big.LITTLE. Two cores (2.23 GHz each) are used to solve complex problems,
and the remaining two are energy efficient.

The novelty is twice as productive and five times more economical than the A9 installed in the iPhone 6.

In benchmarks, the Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon are inferior to the A9 in performance on a single core, but outperform in multi-core tests.

Memory. ROM. One of the important changes in the updated S7 / S7 Edge was the return of support for microSD cards (up to 256 GB). Previously, the company argued their absence by the presence of a faster ROM (UFS 2.0) "in order to exclude a situation where users who use an external card instead of the device's internal memory did not scold Samsung for poor read and data transfer speeds."

But with the capacity it turned out ugly. Unfortunately, both models were limited to a single version with 32 GB of ROM. So microSD comes in handy here.

IPhone users, apparently, have not even heard of memory expansion cards. No version of an Apple smartphone has ever been equipped with a microSD slot. But they don't need it. Why? Everything is simple to the point of banality - because Apple decided so.

As for the ROM size, the situation is better here. There are three versions to choose from:
for 32, 128 and 256 GB! The 16 GB version has finally been removed. This is definitely a plus, because the price for such a model remains the same.

Memory. RAM. Samsung models got 4GB of RAM. What is there with the iPhone is not yet known. The TENNA database indicates that the younger model is equipped with 2 GB of RAM, while the iPhone 7 Plus has 3 GB. But the situation with the device memory is a little different. The fact is that due to the above information about the difference of systems, Android and iOS use memory differently. Android is a stripped down and modified version of Linux with a redesigned Java environment. And even an experienced bodybuilder will envy the appetites of the latter.

Starting with version 4.4, the Java virtual machine called Dalvik (used to transform code) has been replaced by ART, a method that differs from its predecessor. The test results showed that despite this, the operating speed remained the same.

Another memory lover is the so-called "garbage collector", which is responsible for maintaining stability by cleaning up memory. I will not describe the same process on iOS, but I note that optimization solves a lot.

Audio

Audio jack. Samsung has a tradition here, so let's go straight to Apple. Rejection of mini Jack is a controversial decision, no matter what the company's engineers say. Such a move allegedly opened up additional opportunities for the manufacturer. For example, they were able to install the Taptic Engine chip and increase the volume and physical size of the battery. Fine! But other manufacturers also do this, and the presence of a 3.5 mm jack is not a hindrance for them.

Most people use a complete headset. IPhone owners are no exception. And why does the headset need a built-in DAC when the musical capabilities of the smartphone itself leave much to be desired? If the company so wants to please music lovers, it is enough to use the experience of Meizu, Highscreen or LG. That is, equip the device with a separate Hi-Fi audio chip.

DAC. As is the case with processors, the audio chips for models based on Exynos (Lucky CS47L91 Sound) and Snapdragon (Qualcomm WCD9335) are different. The sound is good, but not up to Hi-Fi. What DAC is installed in the new iPhones, I do not know. The 6/6 Plus was equipped with a Cirrus Logic 338S1201. I cannot say that he is "audiophile" either. Poor mid-frequency range, although it is corrected by software, but the result is still far from expected. The lack of HD audio is another problem of the company. But this is more of a nagging, because many will not even notice the difference.

Moisture protection

S7 / S7 Edge received IP68 protection. This means :

  1. the case is completely protected from dust and moisture;
  2. the smartphone can withstand immersion to a depth of 1.5 m for half an hour.

Apple's numbers are more modest. iPhone 7/7 Plus are IP67 certified, which is similar to the first point of the competitor. But you can immerse the phone in water to a depth of 1 m. And even this is relative. Over time, the waterproof properties deteriorate, and in the official video of new smartphones, only the behavior of the device in the rain was demonstrated. Be sure: all other warnings you will find in the instructions for the phone.

By the way, the iPhone has acquired moisture protection since the previous version. They just did not advertise it officially.

Warning on the official website

Camera

Here we come to the main and, perhaps, the most anticipated update. Mobile photography has become so popular that it has long overtaken all other types of photography. And after the advent of Instagram, the need for a good camera has become a reference point for all mobile manufacturers. Both Samsung and Apple gave their best! We already have several articles on our site (Apple:,; Samsung:,) dedicated to the cameras of these devices, so I will limit myself to just a note and characteristics.

Samsung S7 / S7 Edge. Smartphones have the same camera modules. 5MP front camera - wide-angle. Compared to the S6 / S6 Edge / S6 Edge +, the number of megapixels of the main camera has dropped from 16 to 12 megapixels. This is done in order to increase the pixel size, which now combines two LEDs, instead of the usual one.

The technology is called Dual Pixel and is also used in professional DSLRs. The result is an increased focusing speed (0.2 s) without sacrificing clarity.

Sony IMX260 module, 1.4 micron pixel and 1 / 2.5 ″ sensor. Macro, WDR, RAW support - everything is up to par. The f / 1.7 aperture is the record for the market.

In previous versions, the camera protruded strongly outward (by 1.4 mm). The manufacturer took into account the mistake, now the camera protrudes from the body by 0.46 mm. A rich manual mode will delight any mobile photographer, and the presence of optical stabilization, phase detection autofocus and 4K shooting completes our short list.

iPhone 7/7 Plus. If earlier the difference between the 6S / 6S Plus was only in the presence of optical stabilization in the latter, now the differences are much more significant. An additional sensor and a telephoto lens were added to the older version. Cameras of both versions are 12 megapixels.

Photography

  • iPhone 7: f / 1.8 aperture 5x digital zoom;
  • iPhone 7 Plus: f / 1.8 aperture, f / 2.4 telephoto. Optical zoom 2x, digital zoom up to 10x.

Filming

  • iPhone 7: 3x digital zoom
  • iPhone 7 Plus: 2x optical zoom, 6x digital zoom.

Optical image stabilization, 6-element lens, BSI sensor, hybrid IR cut filter, HDR, autofocus (Focus Pixels), flash (True Tone Quad-LED), 4K (30fps) recording and A10 Fusion coprocessor - available as in 7 and in the Plus version.

Outcome

The update to the iPhone lineup was really surprising this time. The company, which other manufacturers had previously focused on, changed its vector and tried to catch up. The emergence of several Chinese players and Samsung's success have prompted the iPhone to descend from the skies and acknowledge the existence (and even advantage) of some of them. As we know, competition is the engine of progress, therefore, the manufacturers ’race only plays into our hands.

Pros: In addition to the increased performance indicators, which were at the same level before, new items from Apple received a major update of cameras, moisture protection, and stereo speakers.

The Home button is no longer mechanical. It is now a touchpad, under which is a tactile response mechanism. The minimum memory size has also changed (from 32 GB).

Cons: Considering the preferences of the company's users, there are none.

Maybe someone will have questions about the new colors and the lack of Space Gray, but mostly the audience is happy. Even more.

Samsung has everything on the same level, so let's move on to the main question. To be honest, all of the above "innovations" remain so only for Apple. Because Android smartphones from A- and even little-known brands have learned this long ago. The Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge is a great example of this. And Samsung's devices represented by the main opponent were not chosen by chance. Based on the above comparisons, choosing the best one becomes even more difficult. The adherents of both companies have different priorities and needs.

The new smartphones turned out to be excellent and each of them has a multi-million army of fans for a long time. It is also interesting that the minimum version of the iPhone (iPhone 7 for 32 GB) is more expensive than the top-end Galaxy S7 Edge, to which you additionally get Gear Fit 2.

But! You must understand that the above opinion is the result of blind comparisons. I have experience using Apple and Samsung smartphones of the sixth and seventh generations, but I cannot compare the new 7 and 7 Plus in any other way, except for technical information.

Conclusion.

  • If you are a loyal apple-grower - feel free to take a new iPhone.
  • Do you value freedom and don't want to be addicted to being tied to various services? Your choice is the S7 / S 7 Edge.
  • Well, if you are a creative person and feel the need for a stylus, you can't imagine your life without USB Type-C or just paranoid, Galaxy Note 7 is what you need! Just wait for the updated batch, some of the devices have a serious problem with the battery, which can lead to it.

I personally prefer Samsung. What will you choose?

If you find an error, please select a piece of text and press Ctrl + Enter.

Today we will try to compare two very interesting smartphones. Of course, these will be representatives of the two main competitors on the market: iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge.

Of course, we can say that there are two smartphones on each side, but their characteristics are very similar and therefore, we will just compare as a whole, but I will take into account all the points.

I know that the article comes out much later than it should have been. But given the fact that a lot of time has passed and all devices are still relevant, then why not.

How is the iPhone 7/7 PLUS different from the Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge?

As you can imagine, usually the comparisons are not very equal, because the companies release devices at very different times of the year. In any case, someone is going one step ahead.

Therefore, let's first compare all the characteristics in the table. Thus, you can understand the most important differences between these gadgets.

Approximately such differences can be observed in the general picture in the table. But we do understand that each point needs to be considered separately.

Lately, the numbers don't always tell the truth. Everything needs to be probed live and to understand the whole difference. What we are going to do now.

Difference between iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge

Let's start with the most interesting part. I will not go into more details. But after reading the article, you will understand the main difference.

Design

Although the iPhone 7 did not receive anything fundamentally new in the design, Apple managed to make a new device from the old 6S thanks to bug fixes.

Now the antennas follow the contour of the body neatly, the camera has become much nicer to look at thanks to the one-piece body. And this is perhaps all the main differences from the previous model in appearance.

Three new color options have appeared and now you can still buy Red, Black (Matte) and Jet Black. Well, in the old fashioned way, you can find Gold, Rose Gold and Silver.

Samsung has done something new and exciting. While the regular Galaxy S7 looks a lot like its predecessor, the Edge could be very different thanks to the screen.

On the sides, the device has a rounded screen. I do not argue, it all looks very cool. But as practice shows, using the device is not as convenient as expected.

Very often, it is these side parts that react to accidental presses and, of course, when playing games and watching videos, it is extremely inconvenient to hold the device.

The colors are totally different and we have Black Diamond, White Pearl, Titanium Silver and Dazzling Platinum.

It's hard enough to say which design is better, because each user has his own ideals and point of view. Both are good in their own way and which one is more beautiful, it's up to you.

Here I can add at the end that the iPhone has an aluminum case and after a couple of years it looks much nicer than the Galaxy S7.

The reason was the plastic speaker and the Menu button, which simply wear off after a while. However, the glass body is very good.

Screens

As you already know, the iPhone has 4.7 and 5.5 inches, while the Samsung has 5.1 and 5.5 inches. If the junior models are about the same, then regarding the larger options, we can say that Samsung 5.5 is more accurate.

Apple usually doesn't chase resolution, because they want to optimize everything perfectly and extend battery life. 1334x750 and 1920 × 1080 - although not enough, but so far users have not complained.

It can also be noted that they have the best IPS matrix on the market, which is slightly improved compared to the 6S.

With Samsung, everything is a little different and they have been feeling confident in this regard for a long time. Super AMOLED has incredible color reproduction.

2560x1440 is quite good for this size and in this regard you will feel very comfortable. Black is really black, unlike IPS.

But to be honest, both screens are of very high quality and have everything that a high-end device needs. Again, color rendition is a matter of taste.

Batteries

And then the first point begins, which Apple cannot catch up with for a long enough period of time. Of course, these are batteries and everything connected with them.

Almost all devices show good performance in terms of battery life, except for the iPhone 7. Thanks to the thin body, it was possible to accommodate only 1960 mAh.

But this is not the most important thing either. It will take you 2 hours and 10 minutes to fully charge your iPhone 7. While for Samsung S7 it only takes 1 hour and 25 minutes.

All thanks to the Quick Charge 2.0 technology, which they have been using for a long time. Also, just think for a second that 50 percent can be achieved in just half an hour.

I think it's clear who has the advantage here. If Apple does not do anything in the next generations, then I think it will be possible to observe a big change.

Samsung wireless charging has been a bit envious for a long time. After all, I was so tired of constantly using wires.

Performance

As you can imagine, both devices are flagships and no matter what game or program you run, it will run without problems.

All thanks to the Apple A10 Fusion 4 quad-core processor on the iPhone and the Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 on the Galaxy. Samsung supplies different processors for different markets, but there is not much difference in terms of power.

RAM iPhone 7/7 PLUS - 2 and 3 GB, Samsung Galaxy S7 - 4 GB. The numbers are impressive, and some don't have all that much fun on their computers.

Also, as practice shows, the operating system plays a very important role. iOS always uses resources more rationally and thanks to this, you can observe stable work.

Android has made a big leap lately and is getting closer in optimization every day. iOS is still better, but I think in a year or two, it won't be so noticeable.

Audio

I also decided to talk separately about music, because Apple has always been in the first place. But if you compare the difference before and now, then the iPhone has long ceased to be top-end in this direction.

Nevertheless, judging by the devices, there are quite a lot of differences. And for example, both iPhones have stereo speakers and the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Samsung still has a jack and only one speaker, which also sounds pretty good.

As for me, here I would give preference to the iPhone. After all, stereo speakers are much more expensive than a jack and you want to watch vidos and play games in the highest class.

Moreover, Bluetooth headphones are becoming cheaper and in a couple of years, we will probably remember the 3.5 jack as CDs.

Camera

Now we have come to the most interesting moment, which usually interests the most when buying a new smartphone. After all, photographs have become a part of our life as early as 2 or 3 years.

Main camera. We will take the plus model from the iPhone, because it has a 12MP dual camera. The second is used for portrait mode and 2x optical zoom.

Samsung also has 12 megapixels. They reduced the number of pixels in order to increase the pixel size, which now combines two LEDs, instead of the usual one.

If anyone understands, then Samsung has an f / 1.7 aperture, and Apple has an f / 1.8 aperture. Which is very, very good for mobile phones.

Speaking about night shooting and in low light conditions, the winner can be safely called Samsung, which has a much clearer picture.

During the day, both devices do quite well, and here the difference is really not very big. Samsung wins a little, but not critically.

I am reminded of the days when Apple was the best in mobile photography. Long gone are the days when they occupied top positions. Everything is about level now.

If we briefly mention the video, then Apple does a little better here and has optical image stabilization, 4K recording (30 fps) and the A10 Fusion coprocessor - both in the 7 and in the Plus version.

Samsung also has optical image stabilization and 4K shooting capabilities. I think it's the lenses that make the difference.

Front-camera. Now let's touch on a topic that has haunted for many years and this, of course, selfies, which many take several pieces a day.

The iPhone 7 has 7 MP, which takes very accurate photos and you can see all the smallest details of your face.

The Samsung S7 is only 5MP, but it's wide-angle and you can capture a lot more detail in your photo.

Here you can choose for yourself, the clarity of the picture or the wide angle. In reality, each option for different occasions and for example, if you take pictures with several people, then surely Samsung will cope better.

Chips

If earlier Apple dictated the rules of technology in the market in its entirety, now this is happening only partially.

Let's quickly go over the main differences that I was able to notice:

  • Taptic Engine and 3D Touch (iPhone). You feel a very pleasant smartphone response that no other smartphone has yet. Just pinch on the icon and an additional menu appears.
  • Menu button. iPhone is equipped this time with a touch-sensitive Home button, which makes the illusion of pressing thanks to the Taptic Engine technology.
  • Heart rate sensor and Qi wireless charging... You won't find all of this on the iPhone. Galaxy is making great progress in this direction.
  • Flexible camera settings. The principle of the iPhone's camera is quite simple - point and take a picture. In Samsung, you can dig into the settings and do something pretty cool.
  • Moisture protection. It is available in both devices and Samsung has IP68 (it can be up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 m).

Apple is a little worse in this regard and has an IP67 standard. 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 meter under water.

It turned out a little vinigret, but I think I conveyed the essence of the rest of the chips and this is the main thing. As you can see, they are completely two different devices.

Which is better than iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge?

So, surely many have come to read the material so that they can understand what kind of smartphone is better and which one to buy after all.

I have a question for your answer, so don't worry. In fact, the answer is very simple and you can immediately determine.

Approximately for such criteria you should check yourself and then you will be able to understand everything:

  • Operating system. Whoever and what does not say about the easy transition from Android to iOS and vice versa, this is a very difficult business. Not in the sense that it is unrealistic to do it.

The logic of each OS is completely different, and for example, if you like more freedom of action, then it will certainly be Android. iOS is simple: turn it on - install it - use it.

So if you have a big dilemma, then just ask yourself what is more convenient and more familiar to you. Why torture yourself with something new, just for the sake of the changed appearance of the device.

  • Price. It's 2017, and as you can imagine, the prices of both devices are far from equal. Already now you can find S7 at a price that is two times cheaper than at the start of sales.

This does not happen with the iPhone yet, and even the old models cost quite a lot of money. And this applies to both used and new.

So if you have enough money for Galaxy S7, then you can take it for yourself at a tasty price and use it for the next two years. The design and functions will be relevant for another two years for sure.

  • Camera. Considering that mobile photography is developing at a crazy speed, I can safely say that this criterion is simply incredibly important when choosing.

In general, the cameras do not have much difference in quality. Here it really all depends on what exactly you would like.

For example, in Samsung we get better pictures thanks to the flexible settings. The device also copes well in automatic mode.

Apple has a second camera, and that could be the key. A cool portrait mode that can blur the background gets better every day.

Also, the 2x optical zoom without any loss of quality is also very impressive. If these two points are important to you, then you know which is the best to buy.

I understand that there is no clear answer about the best device at all. After all, Samsung has been pushing for a long time with its technologies and screen.

We just read the points and choose which category you belong to. If the choice for Samsung prevails, then we take it without hesitation.

If Apple, then welcome to a new world where you don't have to worry too much about the choice and your next smartphone will be very obvious.

I am leading to the fact that it is much more difficult for Android users to choose a device, because there are too many brands that constantly release completely different devices.

Apple is simple. You buy a model for which you have enough money and you already roughly understand that in the future the choice will be between two models at most: the top and last year's flagship.

Outcomes

To be honest, the choice between such devices is always difficult to make. Hopefully my comparison between the iPhone 7/7 PLUS and the Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge can make the big picture a little clearer.

All thoughts are very difficult to lay out in one article and therefore, we get this result.

To be honest, in the end I can say the principle that I would have acted on: we take the device that looks like it and it will not lag for the next 2-3 years.

At the moment, we spend just a crazy number of hours just sitting at the smartphone. We buy something that will delight you with all the functions.

Which one is prettier?

Comparing phones in terms of design is useless because it is a very subjective thing. Therefore, we will just tell and show.

The design of the iPhone hasn't changed much compared to past generations. But why significantly change a good decision? But they added two black colors: glossy and matte. The smartphone is made of metal, the body is thin - just over 7 millimeters. Due to this, as well as the small screen, they are very convenient to use.

The protective glass of the display is slightly curved at the edges, and under the display is the traditional Home button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. It is no longer mechanical, but reacts to pressing force thanks to 3D Touch technology.

Galaxy S7 has only a frame made of metal, it is enclosed between two glasses. Judge for yourself which is more beautiful: glass or metal. I will just say that breaking glass is, of course, much easier than breaking metal. The Edge version has a curved matrix on the sides - it looks great, but it makes using the phone more difficult.

In terms of design, the battle between iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 is a draw.

Which one is more powerful?

This comparison is already objective. The iPhone 7 is powered by an Apple A10 Fusion quad-core processor and comes with 2GB of RAM. Galaxy S7 is equipped with an eight-core Exynos 8890 processor and 4 GB of RAM. Do you think everything is obvious? Not at all! Moreover, the result is most likely not at all what you think.

Performance tests put the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus number one among all smartphones in the world! The fact is that at a certain level of optimization, processor power is no longer as important as that of a graphics accelerator. And the iPhones always had what they needed.

As for RAM, the iOS operating system, which Apple makes only for its smartphones, is so polished that iDevices don't need a lot of RAM. Applications work in the background no worse than on Samsung with its 4 GB.

If you are choosing a device for gaming, then you should have no doubts whether to buy an iPhone 7 or Samsung S7. The iPhone 7 is the most powerful smartphone in the world, Galaxy S7 is not even among the top ten.

Which one will be relevant longer?

The last major version of iOS was released at the end of 2016 - iOS 10. Apple updated its 2012 smartphone, iPhone 5. The support period for Apple devices is 4 years.

The last major Android update also came out last fall - Android 7.0 Nougat. Of the Samsung flagships at the time of this writing (April 2017), only the latest and penultimate ones - Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6 and S6 Edge - have received it. Samsung Galaxy S5 will not receive an update. Samsung devices are supported for 2 years.

By purchasing an iPhone 7, you will receive updates until 2020. For Samsung Galaxy S7, updates will end in 2018.

Who has the best screen?

Samsung has perfected its AMOLED panels: they now have adequate color reproduction, high brightness and excellent energy efficiency. Due to the fact that such panels can turn on certain areas of the screen, and not just the entire display as a whole, the Always-on Display function works when the display turns on in a locked state and shows notifications. The screen has a diagonal of 5.1 inches and a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels.

The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display with a 1334x750 resolution. The pixel density is lower than in the S7, but the human eye does not see this difference. An LCD matrix is used, from which the maximum is squeezed: the matrix has a pleasant natural color rendering, high brightness and contrast.

The screen cannot turn on only in certain areas, but it recognizes the force of pressing thanks to 3D Touch technology. This makes interaction with the device easier: for example, you can immediately go to the desired function of the application by skipping a few navigation taps. On the Galaxy S7, you will need to click on the mail application icon and go to the letter writing menu. On the iPhone 7, all you have to do is press hard on the icon and immediately select the desired menu.

Choose what you like best: Always-on Display or 3D Touch. In other respects, both displays are good.

Who has the best camera?

A very difficult parameter to compare, because we are talking about two of the best camera phones on the market. Apple iPhone 7 is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera with f / 1.8 aperture, phase detection autofocus and optical stabilization. Videos are recorded in resolutions up to 4K.

The Samsung camera has the same characteristics - only aperture of f / 1.7. This makes comparing the cameras of the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 even more difficult. So let's just look at some examples.

As you can see, both smartphones shoot great. There is no leader here either, a draw.

Which one lives longer on a single charge?

The seventh iPhone received a 1,960 mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy S7 - 3,000 mAh. Even with more rigorous system optimizations, lower resolutions and smaller screen sizes, the Apple smartphone has a much shorter lifespan than the Galaxy S7. He gives out the day of work, but not more and not always. The South Korean smartphone is doing much better with this.

In terms of autonomy, a comparison of the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 shows that the South Korean is far ahead.

Bottom line: iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7?

  • The design is not for everybody.
  • iPhone 7 is more powerful and better suited for gaming
  • iPhone 7 will last twice as long as the Galaxy S8
  • Displays are different: both are good, but Samsung has all the benefits of AMOLED, while Apple has 3D Touch.
  • Cameras are equally good
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 lasts longer on a single charge

If you've opted for the iPhone 7, congratulations! An excellent smartphone is waiting for you, which will fully justify its price. You can buy iPhone 7 right now in our store. It will be cheaper than in large stores and when ordering from abroad. Why pay extra for a device that is the same in all stores?

On March 29, Samsung presented its new flagships, which fully met all the expectations of fans. Appealing in appearance, smartphones contain impressive hardware, including an Infinity Display and a retina scanner. However, to what extent does the functionality of the devices exceed the capabilities?

Galaxy S8 vs. iPhone 7: Feature Comparison

Below is a summary table showing the difference in specifications between Galaxy S8 \ S8 Plus and iPhone 7 \ 7 Plus.

Drive volume

The Galaxy S8 has 64GB of internal storage (double that of its predecessor), expandable with a microSD card. Thus, Samsung offered a more flexible and less expensive option, in which users do not need to pay more for a version with impressive storage capacity. On the other hand, Apple never envisaged expanding the internal storage, although it added a 256GB version to the iPhone line and increased the storage capacity in the base version of the smartphone from 16GB to 32GB.

Cameras

New items from Samsung received a 12-megapixel camera with an aperture of f / 1.7 and optical stabilization (the same as in the previous model). According to the manufacturer, the number of megapixels remains the same, but the software responsible for the camera has been improved.

The front camera of the Galaxy S8 is equipped with an 8 megapixel autofocus sensor.

In comparison, the iPhone 7 has a 12MP f / 1.8 module (front camera is 7MP), while the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera. Currently, none of the Samsung models have this functionality.

When it comes to zoom and the various effects it offers, the Apple smartphone is definitely the leader, but if camera productivity is important to you, then it is better to pay attention to the Galaxy S8.

Functionality Galaxy S8 vs iPhone 7

Samsung has overhauled its device practice in many ways and is no longer offering a wide variety of features that smartphone owners may not be able to enjoy. In an effort to make devices simpler and more convenient, the company is wary of which functionality is worth implementing. The Galaxy S8 has many useful features that iPhone 7 lacks, including support for wireless charging and virtual reality, NFC, USB-C port, heart rate sensor, Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5mm headphone audio jack.

For the first time, Samsung developers abandoned the physical Home button and placed a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel.

The Galaxy S8 is the first Samsung smartphone to offer support for turning a gadget into a real desktop by connecting peripherals (external monitor, mouse, keyboard) to it.

To be fair, it should be noted that the iPhone 7 also has its own chips - support for Apple Pay, 3D Touch and stereo speakers. In addition, a red version of the iPhone 7 is now available.

Software: Android vs iOS

Perhaps one of the most significant differences between the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 is the operating system. The first is running Android and the second is iOS. Both platforms have their own advantages and disadvantages and, in the end, the user's choice comes down to his preferences.

In the Galaxy S8, the manufacturer has improved the software, making it more convenient and accessible to the user. In terms of first impressions, the Galaxy S8 differs significantly from previous Samsung smartphones in terms of software.

Apple has plenty of time left to bypass the Galaxy S8

Before drawing any conclusions about which smartphone is the best, you need to remember that the Galaxy S8 is competing with last year's iPhone model. It is likely that the situation will change in September when Apple introduces a new anniversary (iPhone turns 10 years old) generation of its smartphones. The line-up is rumored to include an iPhone 8 model with a curved OLED display, a next-generation processor, wireless charging support and an iris scanner.

These 2 flagships are completely different in their essence, and it is rather difficult to compare them. But often buyers try to make a choice between these smartphones. We will try to help with this.

Competitors

The iPohne 7 and Galaxy S7 are not the only ones in their category. Below we will provide links where we compared these phones with other worthy flagships.

IPhone 7 Comparison:

  1. iPhone 7 vs Xiaomi Mi6 ()

Samsung S7 comparison:

  1. vs OnePlus 3T - available
  2. vs S8 -
  3. vs iPhone SE -.
  4. vs iPhone 6s -.
  5. vs iPhone 6s plus -.
  6. vs Huawei P9 -

As we write new reviews and comparisons, this list will be updated. Be sure to consider competing phone models.

Displays

Let's start with the obvious - displays. IPhone 7 uses a screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches and a resolution of 1334x750... Many users do not like this, because such a cool flagship without a FullHD display in the 21st century is stupid. In fact, everything is extremely logical: Apple maintains the perfect balance between screen size and screen resolution. Well, no need for a diagonal of less than 5 inches FullHD resolution. At 1334x750, everything is clearly visible on the display, but individual pixels are impossible to notice. But on the other hand, such a resolution reduces the load on the processor and battery, which makes the phone faster and more autonomous. So Apple in this case cares about the users, and not about the marketers. The rest of the iPhone 7 display hasn't changed much - it's the same cool Retina screen with maximum viewing angles and cool color reproduction.

The SuperAmoled QHD display in the Samsung Galaxy S7 is slightly better. There is a suspicion that the SuperAmoled technology is by far the best, and many developments are trying to get it to use in their phones. We consider the huge QHD resolution with a diagonal of 5.1 inches to be an unnecessary "twist", which is practically useless. Such a resolution is appropriate on huge TVs with a diagonal of 40 inches or more, but not on the small screen of a mobile phone. Granted, the detail is excellent, but the CPU and battery load is high and this can be considered a disadvantage.

Regardless, the displays on the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, and S8 are by far the best on the market. It just so happens that Samsung is the leader in this area. By the parameter of brightness, viewing angles, color rendering, behavior in the sun, etc. day they have no equal.

"Iron"

The Apple iPhone 7 uses the powerful Apple A10 Fusion processor, which is better than its predecessor A9 in a number of ways. We will not list its dry characteristics, but we will give a table of smartphone performance for April 2017

  1. iPhone 7 Plus (test result 177220 points)
  2. Samsung Galaxy S8 + (172640)
  3. Samsung Galaxy S8 (172636)
  4. iPhone 7 (170936)
  5. OnePlus 3T (159547)

It follows that the Samsung Galaxy S7 based on the Exynos 8890 processor cannot compete with the iPhone 7 in terms of performance, and its lag is very significant: 140 thousand points against 170 thousand. Nevertheless, even the result of 140,000 points for the flagship is decent.

By the way, the new flagship from Samsung Galaxy S8 (and Galaxy S8 +) based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 chipsets could not get around the Apple A10 Fusion. So in this comparison, it is the iPhone 7 that wins by a wide margin.

Cameras

The iPhone 7 Plus has got a very cool dual-module sensor, which was a kind of revolutionary change in the world of smartphone cameras. In the iPhone 7 without the Plus prefix, everything is a little simpler: it uses one rear sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels and optics with an aperture of f / 1.8. There is optical stabilization and, in general, the quality of photos is better than in the predecessor iPhone 6. But note that there are no revolutionary changes in the iPhone 7, but in the iPhone 7 Plus there are, but now we are considering the 7th model without the Plus prefix.

Sample photos on the iPhone 7 camera

The camera in the Samsung Galaxy S7 phone is represented by the Sony IMX260 sensor. It has no description on the manufacturer's website and is not used in other smartphones. Hence, it was created specifically for the Galaxy S7. Unlike the iPhone, the aperture is better here - f / 1.7, the pixel size is 1.4 microns, the Dual Pixel focusing technology is used (focusing is carried out over the entire area of the matrix). In general, the S7 camera has become much better in comparison with its predecessor, although it seemed that it could not be better. Now in the dark there is less noise and blur, the brightness and clarity of the picture has increased, the application has new settings, modes, scenes.

Sample photos on Samsung S7

Both phones are excellent in terms of photos and it is extremely difficult to pick out a winner. Subjectively: we will give the victory to the Korean flagship Samsung, because it seems to us that there is less noise when the picture is enlarged. In general, the Samsung Galaxy S7 camera is the strongest point of this flagship.

Autonomy

Apple usually does not indicate the battery capacity of its gadgets. This is understandable, because their capacity is 1600 mAh, which is not much for a modern smartphone, especially for a flagship. But autonomy is not only the capacity of the battery, but also the optimization of the energy consumption of the components. So with this, the iPhone is all right. iPhone 7 will not live much longer than the same sixth iPhone, so you can count on about 4-5 hours of the screen on. This means that the flagship will survive from morning to evening, but no more. Charging it every night is the norm. And if you also take into account that it has a fast charging function, it generally seems that the autonomy is quite normal.

Samsung, on the other hand, provided more information. Their brainchild, the Galaxy S7, has a 3,000mAh battery, which is standard for Android flagships. Without any significant restrictions, this phone will work for 12 hours - from morning to evening. At the same time, you will be able to surf the Internet, watch movies, communicate on a social network and simply by phone. And all this at 60-70% brightness. It is worth considering that 60% of the brightness of the S7 screen is approximately 100% of the brightness of the displays of gadgets from other manufacturers. So, in terms of autonomy, the Korean phone from Samsung wins.

Conclusions and video reviews

In our opinion, the best in this pair is the iPhone 7 due to the higher performance of hardware and the iOS operating system. The latter is key. And the camera of the Apple flagship in the right hands can demonstrate excellent results.
