What to do if the laptop does not accept the mouse. The computer does not see the mouse - how to fix it

Your wireless mouse isn't working? Nothing wrong. Each user is capable of solving this problem, regardless of his level of knowledge and training. Conditionally, the causes of the malfunction can be divided into two types: hardware and software. The former include power and connection problems. In the second case, these are incorrect settings of the operating system.

Hardware faults

Wireless mouse not working? We begin to check for hardware faults. To do this, we perform the following actions:

1. Expand the manipulator from the bottom to the top and check the operation of the LED. If it is on, proceed to the next step. We check the state of the "Power" toggle switch. It should be in the "On" position (if any). If everything is in order with the switch, then the batteries must be replaced. If after that the mouse still does not turn on, then it is broken. An expensive device can be taken to a service center for repairs, but in the case of a cheap manipulator it will be easier to buy a new one. For a final decision, it is recommended to check it on another computer and finally make sure of the malfunction.

So, we need to connect the mouse to a personal computer. To do this, it must have a "Connect" button (some devices do not have it, in which case we proceed to the next step). We hold it down for 6 seconds and check if it works. Still not working with your wireless mouse? Go ahead.

3. One of the most common problems in this case is problems with the connection port. Most of these peripherals use the USB interface for connection. There are several such slots on a personal computer. We take out the transmitter and install it in another port and check the manipulator in operation. If the cursor moved, then the mouse worked. This suggests that the problem is in the interface. This may be a lack of contact or connection, a "freeze" port. In any case, it is necessary to visually inspect it for damage. If they are not there, then we check its performance by installing another device (for example, a printer or flash drive). If they started working, then, most likely, it was a "freeze" of the port, and nothing terrible happened. Otherwise, the personal computer has problems with the port, which can only be solved at a service center.

Software malfunctions

All the necessary actions described earlier have been done, and your wireless mouse still does not work for you ... This means only one thing - problems with the software part of the personal computer. To eliminate them, we perform the following actions:

1. We go to the "Task Manager" through the "Start / Control Panel". Then expand the Mice and Other Pointing Devices section. Your manipulator must be in the list that opens. If it is recorded as "HID-compliant device", then you need to go to the official website of the device manufacturer and check for drivers. For some manipulators (for example Sven 4500) there is no dedicated software. And if it is, then you need to download and install it. For example: a4tech wireless mouse model G10-810F does not work. This is how it should be called in the "Device Manager", and it requires the installation of additional software.

2. Sometimes the problem can be solved using specialized programs. To do this, you need to install the MS Fix IT or Connection Tools utilities. The easiest way is to work with the first one. Once launched, it will prompt you to check for hardware faults. After receiving a positive answer, an automatic scan will be done. If a problem is identified, a message will appear asking you. It is necessary to read carefully and either give permission to perform actions or not.

If the manipulations carried out did not give a positive effect, then it is better to buy a new manipulator or contact an existing service center.

Conclusion

This article describes the possible reasons why the wireless mouse does not work, and provides recommendations on how to fix them. These tips are simple, so any user can fix the breakdown without any problems.

It is impossible to use a laptop without a mouse or touchpad, so when a problem arises with them, people immediately wonder what to do. The reasons for the breakdown can occur due to the fault of a person or due to a software failure. Fortunately, any of these can be fixed fairly easily. It is enough to figure out why the mouse does not work on a laptop and get acquainted with the solution to the problem.

Let's take a look at all the possible causes of a malfunctioning mouse.

General breakdown
Most often, the mouse on a laptop does not work if the operating system crashes. This can happen to anyone, so don't worry. Usually, the problem can be solved by simply restarting the computer... This can be done either by key combinations on the keyboard, or by holding down the power button on the laptop and turning it on again.
If the mouse still cannot be used, then you need to do the following:
1. Go to "My Computer" - Properties.

2. Select the section Hardware - Device Manager - Mice.

3. If the driver is malfunctioning in some way, there will be a yellow rectangle with an exclamation mark.
You can fix this problem by by downloading the new mouse driver from the official site or by installing from the media. The trouble should now be cleared up.

What to do if a wired mouse doesn't work
Nowadays, fewer and fewer people use a wired mouse, since it is not always convenient and quickly breaks down. However, there are still those who do not want to purchase the wireless version for some reason. It is they who may face the problem that the mouse has stopped working. It is impossible to immediately answer why this happened. First of all, you need to try connecting the mouse to another computer or laptop. If it works on it, then the problem is in a specific laptop.
What to do in this case:
First of all, you need to try connecting the mouse to a different USB port. This often helps to resolve the problem.

You also need to reboot the system because an unexpected crash might have occurred.
It is recommended to check the drivers and install new ones if necessary.
You can try to remove the mouse from the system, restart the laptop and reconnect it. In this case, the device will be re-recognized.
If the mouse does not work on a laptop and another computer, then it is better to throw it out right away and buy a new one. It could break down due to wiring, a malfunction in the plug, or simply burn out. Attempts to solve mechanical problems on your own rarely lead to a positive result, it just wastes time.
By the way, in rare cases, the mouse may not function due to static stress. To fix this, you need to turn off the laptop and disconnect the plug from the outlet, remove the battery, then press the power button and hold it for 30 seconds. You can now return the battery, turn on the device, and connect the mouse. It is likely that it will work now.

What to do if your wireless mouse is defective
A wireless mouse is comfortable in all respects, however, and problems can arise with it. They are most often caused by dropping the device, spilling large amounts of liquid on it, and old age. However, there are reasons beyond the control of the individual that the wireless mouse does not work. It is about them that the conversation will go.
Wireless mice need batteries which tend to fail.

They need to be changed in time for the mouse to function properly. It is quite possible that at the moment they are the problem. Therefore, you should try to replace them and check if the malfunction goes away.
You can also try plugging the receiver into a different port and check if the mouse is turned on. If it works, but constantly freezes and sometimes stops connecting, then it must be rebooted.
In the case when the wireless mouse does not work at all and none of the above methods helps, it needs to be replaced. For some reason, she finally failed, and trying to find out what exactly led to the breakdown is a waste of time.

Touchpad (touchpad) problems
Some people prefer to use the touchpad built into their laptop. It would seem that no problems should happen to it, but it happens that it does not work or is buggy. The solution methods that are recommended to use if the mouse stopped working will not work here. Therefore, you will have to use the methods applicable in this situation.
When asked why there were problems, mention should be made of the quality of the touchpad. It is likely that laptop manufacturers have saved on it, which is why various glitches occur. If he functioned for a long time without failures, and now for some reason he began to junk, then the problem may be primarily in the person.
If the cursor disappears from the screen at times, this is most often due to dirt on the touch panel. That is why it must be regularly wiped with a damp cloth so that it does not have various stains and seals. It can also be a problem if a person works on the touchpad with wet hands.
The problem may also be a driver malfunction. In this case, you need to download it from the official website and reinstall it. This is often what helps. Also, the touch panel may not work due to the fact that it was accidentally or intentionally turned off. Press the corresponding power button located on the keyboard. In extreme cases, a hardware failure may be to blame, and it can only be solved by handing over the device to a service center.
Why a wireless or wired mouse does not work is a pressing question for all laptop owners. All kinds of solutions to it are presented in the article. If they didn’t solve the problem, then it’s better to get a new mouse than puzzle over the problem. It is recommended to buy a high-quality device, and not a cheap one, since the service life depends on this. Remember to handle your mouse with care and not drop it.

Many users, if they have problems with a computer mouse, prefer to go to the workshops, and most often, due to the relatively low cost of budget models, they simply buy a new one.

Do not rush to go to the store, take a little time, and we will tell you what to do if the mouse on the laptop does not work.

There are not so many reasons due to which the computer mouse does not work, but initially it is necessary to determine the initial data:

  • what type of control is used (mechanical, optical)?

  • method to connect to laptop (wired, wireless)?

  • What interface is used to connect to a computer (PS / 2, USB)?

What to do if the wired mouse doesn't work?

However, here you need to keep in mind the fact that a USB mouse, unlike a PS / 2 mouse, is a Plug-and-Play device. What does it mean?

Based on the main concept of Plug-and-Play devices, they do not need additional configuration - the operating system automatically, on the fly, recognizes objects and makes changes to the overall configuration.

Thus, in the case of a USB connector, configuration changes will be made automatically without the need to restart the laptop, and in the case of a PS / 2 connector, a restart is indispensable.

If all else fails, try restarting your computer regardless of which interface you are using. In some cases, this method is efficient and effective.

Also try to remove the USB mouse, restart the laptop, enter the login and password to enter the operating system, and only after loading, insert it into one of the USB interfaces.

Next, you should try to change the connection interface on the laptop, perhaps one of them does not work correctly ("burned" or freezes), this is a fairly common reason, perhaps the most common among the rest.

The ideal option would be when you have the opportunity to replace the mouse with one that you are 100% sure of working. In this case, the working model should be inserted into the slot in which the current one is installed.

Remember the interface differences described above, and if you install a PS / 2 device, do not forget to restart the laptop.

It's also a good idea to test your mouse to see if it works on another computer, not necessarily a laptop. Everything is simple here, if you inserted a working device into a laptop and it does not work, the problem is definitely in the laptop.

If your mouse does not work with the laptop, but works on another computer, the problem is again with the laptop.

In some cases, the mouse may not work correctly, which manifests itself as a slowdown in the movement of the cursor on the display or an intermittent lack of communication with the mouse.

Static stress as one of the reasons for a non-working mouse

In some cases, the device does not work as a result of static charge build-up. Also, quite often for this reason, USB interfaces burn out.

Note the fact that this problem is typical for both wired and wireless mice. The solution to this problem is to remove the existing static voltage.

To do this, follow the steps given below:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Disconnect power to the laptop by unplugging the power plug from the electrical outlet.
  3. Disconnect the battery.
  4. Press and hold the laptop power button for at least 30 seconds.
  5. Install the battery.
  6. Power on the laptop by plugging into an electrical outlet.
  7. Turn on the laptop, go to the operating system and check if the mouse works.

What to do if the wireless mouse doesn't work?

The first and most common reason a wireless mouse won't work is due to low batteries. To test this thesis, insert other working batteries into the wireless mouse.

Please note that the batteries may not be fully discharged and may even work in other devices (for example, in the remote control), but the mouse will not work.

Advice! In order to prolong the operation of the wireless mouse, we recommend using rechargeable batteries instead of batteries. This will allow you to choose high-capacity batteries, as well as periodically recharge them, rather than buying new ones.

In some cases, wireless mice are prone to freezing. In order to bring it out of this state, use the special mouse on / off button - turn off the mouse and after a few seconds turn it on again.

As a rule, this button is located under the mouse, in some cases it is represented not by a button, but by a lever.

One of the problems may be the absence of a signal from the transmitter installed in the USB port of the computer. Try pulling and inserting the transmitter, you can also change the location of the transmitter by installing it in a different USB interface of the laptop.

If all of the above attempts to restore functionality were unsuccessful, try working on another computer, perhaps the mouse is out of order.

In this article, we tried to provide an overview of all possible reasons when a wired / wireless mouse does not work, and also considered ways to eliminate them.

Often there is such an unpleasant moment while working on a mobile PC, when you realize that the mouse is not working on a laptop. There can be many possible causes of a malfunction, but conditionally they can be divided into two types: hardware and software. You need to look for the problem at the first stage from the first. If everything is fine with them, then you can proceed to the second stage, at which the software, both system and applied, is checked. The main thing is to understand that if the mouse on the laptop does not work, you do not need to panic, nothing terrible has happened. It is quite possible to solve this problem on your own.

Manipulator test

You need to start by checking the operability of the manipulator itself. To do this, it must be connected to a different port on the laptop. If this did not lead to the desired result, and the device is inoperative, then we check it on another PC. If it did not work here, then, most likely, it is completely out of order. Experience shows that it is better to buy a new one than to renovate the old one.

An exception in this case is made by wireless keypads. The batteries may be dead and need to be replaced. But if, when connected to another computer, the mouse still works, then the problem is in your mobile PC, and the manipulator itself is working properly.

Port check

If on a laptop, then you also need to check the ports of the computer. Usually these are plugged into a square USB port. There are several of them on a laptop. It is enough to connect the manipulator to another such connector and check the presence or absence of the result. If the mouse works, then there is a problem with the port. In this case, it makes sense to take the mobile PC to a service center, where the faulty port will be replaced using specialized equipment.

Driver check

Incorrect software settings can lead to the fact that you notice that the mouse does not work well when moving, for example). In this case, we proceed as follows (we only use the touchpad):

  1. We go to "Start".
  2. We select "Control Panel" in it.
  3. Here we find the "Device Manager" and open it with a double click of the manipulator.
  4. We find in the window that opens the item, which includes the word "Mouse" (he is there alone) and open it.
  5. Here you need to find the abbreviation "HID". Select it and delete it.
  6. Then we press the button "Update configuration" - the picture of the PC under the magnifying glass (located in the upper part of the window, under the main menu, on the toolbar).
  7. After searching, the system will inform you that a new device has been found and it has been successfully installed.
  8. A similar manipulation in this window must be done with the USB port drivers (before this step, you need to find a driver on the controller of this bus - it can be on the disk that came with the kit, or on the manufacturer's official website).

If the performed manipulations did not give a result, go to the "Control Panel" in the previously described way and find the item "Mouse" there. We open it and check the correctness of the device. In this case, there is even an opportunity to check the result. If this does not help, and the mouse on the laptop still does not work, then the malfunction is serious, and you simply cannot do without the help of a specialist in such a situation. It makes sense to contact the service center after that for help. You may need to reconfigure the registry or even reinstall the operating system.

Conclusion

If on a laptop, then you should not panic. Nothing terrible happened. For the most part, your mobile PC is in good working order and can successfully perform the functions assigned to it. Following the instructions given earlier, you can find out the cause of the malfunction and try to fix it. In extreme cases, if the desired result is not achieved, you can contact the service center, where highly qualified specialists will finally solve this problem.

The touchpad (from the English touchpad - touch pad) is a device for controlling the cursor in laptops, netbooks, ultrabooks.

The device was invented in 1988 by George Gerfeide, but gained popularity only 6 years later, after licensing and installation on Apple PowerBook laptops.

Possible problems with the cursor control panel and options for their solution will be discussed below.

Most laptop owners prefer to use a mouse for comfortable work rather than a built-in touchpad - a touchpad.

The need to disable the touchpad may arise if you have a stationary computer mouse, as well as if you plan to type large amounts of text.

The fact is that when typing, there are often cases when the cuff of a shirt, for hours, can accidentally touch the touchpad, as a result of which the cursor moves over the text. In some laptop models, the process of disabling the touchpad is automated, but you have to enable it manually.

Most laptop users have probably at least once faced a situation where a computer mouse is not at hand and the only way out is to use the touchpad, which also refuses to work.

Below we provide a list of the most common touchpad problems and how to solve them.

Step 1. Turn on / off the touchpad on the keyboard

90% of the problems of a non-working touchpad are solved by its banal inclusion. To do this, you can use a key combination consisting of the mandatory Fn key and the system key, which may differ depending on the manufacturer and model. Here are the key combinations for the most common laptop manufacturers.

Hewlett-Packard (HP)

HP, as well as some other laptop manufacturers, prefer to move away from the standard layout of the Fn + Fx keys and move the touchpad power button directly to the touch panel, it is located in the upper left corner and has a light indication for ease of operation.

To enable / disable the touch panel, you need to double-tap on the button, which is also touch.

Step 2. Cleaning the touchpad

The sensor may not respond to touch if the panel is dirty or when touched with wet fingers. Make sure your fingers are dry and the sensor surface is clean.

You can use a damp cloth to clean the touch panel, and then wipe the surface dry.

Step 3. Enabling / disabling the touchpad in BIOS

A less common phenomenon than the previous two, but also sometimes occurring - disabling the touchpad in the BIOS.

To fix the problem, go to the laptop BIOS. You can go to BIOS settings at the boot stage by pressing a certain key on the keyboard. The name of the key depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Usually these are the Del, Esc, F1, F2, F10 keys, etc.

The moment when you should press the key can be determined by the appearance of the inscription with the name of the key to go to the BIOS. If you start pressing earlier or later, you will not be able to enter the BIOS.

Touch panel operation is possible if the value is set to "Enabled", i.e. "Enabled" if the set value is "Disabled" - the touchpad is disabled.

Important! Do not forget that when changing BIOS settings, you must save the settings made, otherwise the touchpad will remain disabled. All actions in the BIOS must be performed without haste so that, when solving the problem with the touchpad, you do not create a new one.

Step 4. Reinstalling the drivers

The sensor may not work correctly or not work at all due to problems with the device driver. This situation can arise after reinstalling the operating system.

To solve this problem, you need to install the correct driver from the CD that comes with the laptop, or by downloading it from the manufacturer's website.

Step 5. Hardware damage to the touch panel

If none of the above tips helped, chances are we are dealing with a hardware rather than a software issue with the touchpad. Such problems include poor-quality connection of the cable to the motherboard or mechanical damage to the panel.

If you are confident in your abilities, you can disassemble the laptop and check the quality of the loop connection. Sometimes, in order for the touchpad to work, it is enough to fix the connection connector.

If you have no experience in assembling laptops or are not sure that you can do everything correctly, we recommend that you contact a qualified technician or service center.

In this video I will tell you how to enable or disable the touchpad on a laptop, and if you do not have a special key.
