What to do if print settings are not active.

Hello everyone! If you have visited this article, then, for sure, you are having problems with the printer and you are interested in the question "Why does not the printer print?" I will try to help you with this. Of course, the benefits of a printing device can hardly be overestimated. It is needed everywhere: at home and in the office, at school and at the factory. In a word, in the era of information technology, this apparatus is necessary almost everywhere, since it greatly facilitates the work. You can still read the article about, and sometimes you may have.

Problems with a printing device do not depend on its type (laser, dot matrix, inkjet, sublimation) or from the manufacturer. Even well-known brands such as Canon, HP, Epson or Samsung do not guarantee that there will be no damage or problems with their printing devices. So, if the printer does not want to print from the computer, then do the following:

  1. Check the device itself. That is, make a printout of a test page by pressing the corresponding button on the printer. If it doesn’t work, check the paper, if the cartridge is installed correctly, and then try again. Pay attention to the indicator: it should be lit "green". Does not help? Go ahead.
  2. Check power wire, his contact with the printer. If the test page prints, but the data does not print from the computer, then you need to adjust the settings in the system.
  3. First, check the contact of the cable in the printer and in the system unit. Now watch the monitor screen as you send your documents to print. If nothing happens, check if there is a "birdie" in the dispatcher, near the item " Pause printing»?

"A printer" - " Clear print queue».

If all else fails, then the device needs to be removed. Right-click on the Printer icon and select "Delete". After that, disconnect the USB cable from the system unit and restart your computer.

After turning on the computer, plug the USB cable into a different connector. A window appeared on the screen in front of you " Installation wizard". If so, the printer is set to mode. If the window does not appear, then open it manually: "Start" - "Settings" - " Printers and faxes».

If the printer does not work, the problem may be with the drivers.

Open the printer properties: "Start" - "Settings" - " Printers and faxes", Right-click and select" Properties ". Next, open the "Advanced" tab and select a different driver. Or remove this device completely. Then turn off your PC and unplug the USB cable. Next, restart your computer and start the printer, but at the same time plug the cord into a different connector.

A window should appear “ Installation wizard", In it you need to specify the location of the drivers. If nothing worked and the window did not pop up, then the drivers will need to be installed manually. Read another article. In a situation where the printer is not detected by the computer at all (i.e. the device is connected and visible by the system, but Windows does not detect its model), then follow the route:

Go to " Device Manager"And open the line" IEEE 1284.4 compatible printers"Or" IEEE 1284.4 devices ". Then update driver by right-clicking the desired one.

If all else fails and the question "Why doesn't the printer print?" it remains open for you, then you have to contact the service center. Tell me, is the Internet good for you? Write about it in the comments or read the article. I look forward to your comments on the article! All good!

A printer for a modern person is a rather necessary thing, and sometimes even a necessary one. A large number of such devices can be found in educational institutions, offices, or even at home, if the need for such an installation exists. However, any technique can break down, so you need to know how to "save" it.

The words “the printer does not print” means a lot of malfunctions, which sometimes are not even connected with the printing process, but with its result. That is, the paper enters the device, the cartridges work, but the output material can be printed in blue or with a black stripe. You need to know about these and other problems, because they are easily eliminated.

Issue 1: Problems related to OS setup

Often people think that if the printer does not print at all, then this means only the worst options. However, this is almost always due to the operating system, which may have incorrect settings that block printing. One way or another, this option must be disassembled.

  1. First, to rule out printer problems, you need to connect it to another device. If it is possible to do this via a Wi-Fi network, then even a modern smartphone is suitable for diagnostics. How to check? It is enough to send any document for printing. If everything went well, then the problem is clearly in the computer.
  2. The simplest option why the printer refuses to print documents is the absence of a driver in the system. Such software is rarely installed on its own. Most often it can be found on the official website of the manufacturer or on the disc included with the printer. One way or another, you need to check its presence on your computer. To do this, open "Start""Control Panel".
  3. There we are interested in our printer, which should be contained in the tab of the same name.
  4. If everything is fine with such software, we continue to check for possible problems.
  5. Opening up again "Start", but then we choose "Devices and Printers"... It is important here that the device we are interested in has a checkmark indicating that it is used by default. This is necessary so that all documents are sent for printing by this particular machine, and not, for example, virtual or previously used.
  6. Otherwise, make a single right-click on the printer image and select Use as default.
  7. You need to check the print queue right away. It could also happen that someone simply failed to complete such a procedure, which caused a problem with the file "stuck" in the queue. Due to such a problem, the document simply cannot be printed. In this window, we do the same actions as in the paragraph earlier, but select .
  8. In order to delete all temporary files, you need to select "A printer""Clear print queue"... Thus, we delete both the document that interfered with the normal operation of the device, and all the files that were added after it.
  9. In the same window, you can also check access to the print function on this printer. It may well be that it is disabled by a virus or a third-party user who is also working with the device. To do this, open again "A printer", and then "Properties".
  10. Find the tab "Safety", looking for our account and finding out what functions are available to us. This option is the least likely, but it is still worth considering.

This concludes the analysis of the problem. If the printer still refuses to print only on a specific computer, you need to check it for viruses or try using a different operating system.

Problem 2: The printer prints in stripes

Quite often, this problem appears with the Epson L210. With what this is connected, it is difficult to say, but here it is possible to resist it completely. You just need to figure out how to do it as efficiently as possible and not harm the device. It should be noted right away that both the owners of inkjet printers and laser printers may encounter such problems, so the analysis will consist of two parts.

Problem 3: The printer does not print in black

This problem is most common with the L800 inkjet printer. On the whole, such problems are practically excluded for a laser analogue, so we will not consider them.

  1. First you need to check the cartridge for leaks or improper refilling. Quite often, people do not buy a new cartridge, but ink, which can be of poor quality and ruin the device. New ink may also simply be incompatible with the cartridge.
  2. If you are confident in ink and cartridge quality, you should check the printhead and nozzles. These parts are constantly contaminated, after which the paint dries on them. Therefore, it is required to clean them. This is described in detail in the previous method.

In general, almost all problems of this kind are due to a black cartridge that fails. To find out for sure, you need to conduct a special test by printing a page. The simplest solution to the problem is to buy a new cartridge or contact a specialized service.

Problem 4: The printer prints in blue

With such a malfunction, as with any other, you first need to perform a test by printing a test page. Already starting from it, you can find out what exactly is faulty.

  1. When some colors do not print, clean the ink nozzles. This is done in hardware, detailed instructions were discussed earlier in the second part of the article.
  2. If everything prints fine, the problem is in the print head. It is cleaned using a utility, which is also described under the second paragraph of this article.
  3. When such procedures, even after repeating, did not help, the printer requires repair. You may have to replace one of the parts, which is not always financially advisable.

This concludes the analysis of the most common problems associated with the Epson printer. As it is already clear, something can be corrected on your own, but something is better left to professionals who can make an unambiguous conclusion about how large the problem is.

When printing various documents in Windows, various kinds of problems may arise, after which the printer refuses to print. What to do?
Basically, the reason for this trouble is a malfunction or an error in the print queue of the printer - a special system service that is key in the Windows print management system and monitors the order of documents in the queue. As a result, documents are sent to delayed printing and are simply stored in memory.
To remedy the situation, you can try the following.

Open the Windows Control Panel and go to the "Hardware and Sound" section >>> "Devices and Printers":

Find your printer and right-click on it. In the menu that appears, uncheck the "Use as default" checkbox, if it is checked.
Next, you need to right-click on it again and select "View print queue". Here you need to make sure that it is empty and there are no documents left in it:

If there is something left, then you need to right-click on the document and select the "Cancel" menu item.
Now you need to open the Print menu section in the same window and check the "Use as default" checkbox again.

Now you need to restart your computer and check the result. Usually after that, the print queue error disappears and the printer works as expected.
If the previous step did not help, then you need to go to the "Management" system console and go to the "Services" section. In the list of services, you need to find "Print Manager" and double-click on it to open the following window:

Verify that the startup type of the service is Automatic and that the status field says Running.

Another way to restore normal operation of the printer is to start the Windows command line with Administrator rights and enter the command:

Sc config spooler depend = RPCSS

Note that a space must be left before "RPCSS":

Press the "Enter" key and wait for the command to complete. After that, we restart our PC or laptop and check - the Windows print queue error should be eliminated.

Whenever there is an urgent need to work and the printer does not print, it gives the user a real shock. This happens infrequently, on average, according to statistics, only once every six months. However, if this trouble suddenly arises, you must be able to independently identify the reasons why.

Most common reasons for rejection

There are various sources of printer failure. This starts with an empty cartridge or toner that has been replaced. In this case, a message from the operating system usually appears informing the user. Another fairly common reason why the printer stops printing is a malfunction of the connecting cable. Even minor configuration errors can paralyze the system and stop printing. Incorrect software or driver settings may be the cause. Another reason why the printer won't print and an error code appears when trying to print is the difficulty of connecting to wireless printers.

However, in most cases, printer errors are easily resolved. To quickly resolve problems with the printer and resolve errors, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Check the connection and accessibility of the printer.
  2. Check cartridges, paper and printhead.
  3. Check the printer queue and run Windows automatic troubleshooting.
  4. Update drivers, and fix firmware errors.
  5. Run Windows Printer Services to set print server permissions in Windows.

Setting the default printer

Before you can determine why the printer is not printing from the computer, you need to know if the job has been sent to the printer. When a print job is sent, a window usually opens in which you can adjust the page orientation or paper size. And you can also check which printer the order is sent to. By clicking on the "printer" icon, the user is presented with a selection of available devices. After choosing the appropriate one, you need to click "Add Printer" to install it.

If it is already installed, you can use the control panel as the default printer. To do this, open it by entering the Start menu in the search bar. Then go to the Hardware and Sound section and then Devices and Printers. There, right-click on the desired model and select "Set as default printer" from the menu.

Connecting the device to the computer

For wired printers, you need to check the connections and cable first. For network printers, check if the computer is connected to the printer and the printer is connected to WLAN. Most devices have a control display on which you can see the specific connection.

If the printer is not connected to Wi-Fi, you need to turn it off and on. It is important that computers and printers are connected to the same network. You should also check if the WLAN is actually working. If several printers are connected to the printer or they are connected via WLAN, it is important to pay attention to the exact designation of the required device. The available XPS, PDF and One Note printers are not physical. They are virtual printers for converting documents to other file formats.

If the user cannot find their printer in this list, they will need to reinstall the driver.

Checking Toner, Paper Ink

One of the possible black prints is lack of toner or ink. Using the product display, you can easily tell if one or more of the cartridges are empty. If your printer does not have a display, you can see the display of the levels using the Print Wizard on the device. Another common cause of a non-working printer is a lack of paper or a blockage in the device due to a paper jam.

Usually, these problems are also displayed by a computer or printer. In this case, you need to check if everything is in order with the paper, and it is also important that the covers of the device and the tray are properly closed. To check the ink cartridge levels, you can use the corresponding functions either directly on the printer display or through a tool.

When installing a new cartridge, be sure to ensure that it is inserted correctly. If the print head is dirty, it can also cause problems with the printer. The user is usually notified of this problem with the appropriate error message code on the instrument panel.

To determine why the printer is printing white, you can use the device tool in the PC operating system to reliably test the printhead and, if necessary, initiate the cleaning process. If necessary, you can switch from “offline mode” to “online mode” by clicking “Printer” in the top menu bar and checking the boxes “Use printer offline” or “Stop printer” by clicking the button.

If this is not done, it will be clear why the printer does not print, puts it in the print queue. Then it is better to delete or cancel previous jobs by right-clicking. You can cancel all print jobs and send the print job again. If the printer still won't print, it's best to move on to the next troubleshooting step.

Recovery via control panel

Windows provides automatic printer troubleshooting. You can use this feature from the control panel and right-click the icon for your printer. Select "Troubleshooting" from the menu. Windows starts troubleshooting.

If this troubleshooting method did not help start the printer, you need to go to the device manager and pay attention to the status, and if the device is indicated in yellow, then the problem why the printer does not print may be in the wrong driver.

In this case, reinstalling the driver software will help. If the user does not have the driver software on the CD, you can download the latest version from the pages of the printer manufacturers: HP, Canon, Epson.

Updating drivers and fixing firmware errors

Before you establish why the printer does not print, although there is ink, you need to check the presence of it in the added devices. This problem is usually resolved quickly. After connecting the USB connector to another port on the PC, the operating system detects the printer and starts installing the necessary drivers. If this does not happen, you will have to install the drivers manually. To do this, open the Add Printer dialog box.

Windows then lists all devices for which drivers are available. You need to find the type of printer you want. Then click "Next" in the lower right corner and wait for the driver installation to complete. If Windows cannot find the correct drivers for your device, you can try downloading them directly from the manufacturer's website.

The driver may be initially available, but it may be outdated, which will also cause problems with the printer. In this case, you need to go to the device manager through the control panel and find the item "Printer queue". From here you can click on the corresponding printer, and using the "Driver" tab enter the "Update" command. If all of these troubleshooting steps don't work, you can completely uninstall the printer and reinstall it with new drivers and update the firmware from the manufacturer.

Starting Windows Printer Services

Another reason why the printer won't print. To do this, you need to make sure that the Windows Print Service is running. On Windows, this service is called "Spooler". To check Windows Printer Services, return to the Windows Control Panel and click the Administrative Tools menu item. Then select the category "Services", find the entry "Printer Queue" and set the startup type to "automatic". Then the status should be set to "running", which means the printer service is running.

To start printing, you must have the appropriate permissions for the computer user. If there is only one user on the PC, usually he is the administrator at the same time and has all the rights to make or change the settings. You can set these permissions for the print server in Windows, manage printers, view printer server information, and manage print server.

To set the permissions for the print server, open Print Management and click Print Server on the left. Here you can check if the user has the required permissions. Right click to open "Properties" from where you can set permissions for group or user names.

Printer does not recognize cartridge

If the printer does not recognize the cartridge, then this may be the main reason why. But this cannot be a reason to throw it away. Often the error is not in the cartridge itself. This applies to both original and compatible accessories. Compatible cartridges are produced today like the originals and are identical to these models. The main mistake may be in choosing a brand. therefore, the user should make sure to select the correct cartridge for their printer model prior to installation.

Different printers, manufacturers and models use different consumables. Even small differences in the name of the device and the marking of the cartridge will lead to the fact that the wrong product is being used and the printer does not recognize it.

Installation order:

  1. Insert the cartridge correctly into the printer. If you hear a click, the cartridge is installed correctly.
  2. All packing material must be removed before insertion: protective films and packaging remnants. For example, sticking a small piece of tape to a cartridge chip can cause the cartridge to “misread”.

Canon Scanner Errors

There are often various problems associated with old devices. This may be one of the reasons why the Canon printer does not print and does not recognize the cartridge. Sometimes buying a modern model is not a bad idea, especially in cases where repairs exceed the actual cost of the device, but you should still try other working cartridges of this model on the printer. If they are also not found, then the problem is related to hardware failures in the device.

Inkjet printers also use different cartridges for each color. If the device does not recognize one of the cartridges, and all the others work correctly, then it is faulty and must be replaced.

A simple but powerful help is to restart the printer. This simple trick often helps with many errors.

Epson Does Not Recognize Cartridge

Even with advanced printers like Epson, sometimes there is a problem of not recognizing the cartridge in use. This is why the Epson printer does not print. If your Epson printer displays an error message "The printer does not recognize the cartridge," you need to follow these steps:

  1. Verify the warning message is displayed when using a compatible cartridge. If so, click OK or Next in the message. Subsequently, the print operation should continue as usual.
  2. Check if cartridge transport safety device has been removed. Because before using the printer cartridge, it is necessary to remove not only the packing material, but also this fuse, usually a black or orange plastic component.
  3. When removing, handle the cartridge carefully so as not to come into contact with the contained ink.
  4. To change the cartridge on an Epson printer, you need to use the utility through the printer settings and follow the instructions in the program.
  5. Do not replace cartridges until the Epson offers a replacement and the ink has completely deteriorated. If the printer does not recognize the inserted cartridge, you need to turn it off for about 30 seconds and then start a new print.

HP all-in-one problem

The HP brand of printers speaks for itself, these devices operate with a minimum number of failures. Typically, an error with an HP printer can be corrected in a few simple steps. Sequence of action:

  1. Make sure the printer is properly connected to the PC. Otherwise, he will not be able to receive orders.
  2. Open Control Panel and select "Printers".
  3. Find an HP printer. It must have a status of "ready". If the printer is listed as "Offline", or there is no icon at all, the device will not print.
  4. In order for the printer to enter the "ready" status, it must be properly connected to the PC. Make sure the cable is connected correctly and not damaged. If in doubt, the cable should be replaced. You can also try a different USB port on your PC.
  5. Replace the cartridge as many printers refuse to print as soon as the cartridge is empty.

Saying goodbye to a printer that has helped many jobs is difficult, especially when the printer might still be working. And if the user doesn't update drivers or do preventative maintenance on the printer at the right time, it can lead to quite a lot of print quality problems, not to mention the downtime of the right hardware.

Good day! Dear readers and guests of the blog site, probably the most common problem in the daily life of a system administrator or an ordinary user is the situation that does not print to the printer from a computer running Windows. Such situations are solved in different ways, and in this article I would like to analyze the most common and effective methods that will help you in eliminating this problem and help teach the user to diagnose and solve it himself, without distracting you from more important work.

Why isn't printing

There can be a lot of answers to this question, I will try to draw up a small checklist by which you can find what suits you.

  • Your print service (Spooler) is stuck. A fairly common problem in operating systems of the Windows family, and everything was solved by restarting the required service.
  • The print queue is clogged. Each printer has a certain size of memory, and if you send a document that is too thick for it for printing, then it can completely freeze, everything is treated by the fact that you need to cancel the current print and clean the queue, more on that below
  • Your printer is in exclusive mode
  • The printer has temporarily stopped printing
  • Driver problem
  • A problem with the device itself

Algorithm of actions if printing to the printer does not go

And so why the print does not go to the printer, I described it to you, let's now make an algorithm of actions.

Right-click on the printer you need, pay attention that your printer does not have a ghostly label, as in my screenshot, here you can immediately understand that the printer is not printing due to its autonomous operation. In the context menu, select the "Print queue" item and on the "Printer" menu tab, make sure that two checkboxes are not checked:

  • Pause printing
  • Work autonomously

If they are installed, then you will not be able to send documents for printing, they will hang in the queue, but nothing will go further.

Please note that as soon as the printer stopped being offline, it immediately changed the label to its normal color, which means that it became operational.

5. If this did not help, then I advise you to diagnose it with built-in tools, I already wrote about this method in an article when the printer did not work in Windows 10.

6. Reinstalling drivers, such actions may be required when, for example, you have updated your Windows 10 to a new release, and your printer may not be supported in it or require reinstalling the drivers.

Another of the saving sticks when a document is not being printed to a printer is the use of the Print-Spooler-Repair-Tool utility, which will automatically carry out a deep diagnosis of your system and try to fix all possible printing problems. Open the utility, preferably as an administrator, so that Windows UAC does not work. Press the "Repair" button to diagnose
