Owners of mobile devices based on Android operating systems sometimes, infrequently, however, face the problem that in some cases wi-fi does not work. What is the reason and how to get rid of such a problem, now it will be shown.
Wi-Fi does not turn on on Android: possible reasons
As for the manifestation of such failures, their causes can be counted in abundance. However, among all their diversity, several basic situations can be distinguished that are more common than others.
If we make an approximate list of possible reasons why, for example, wi-fi on a smartphone (“Android” on board) does not turn on, it will look like this:
- incorrect login password;
- wrong date and time;
- malfunctions of the device software;
- problems with settings;
- exposure to viruses;
- unsuitable firmware;
- incorrect router settings.
Based on this list, let's try to consider the methodology for eliminating each problem. In most cases, the suggested solutions below fix the problem, as they say, one hundred percent.
checking the password
One of the most common reasons is an incorrectly entered password that was set when connecting to a virtual network.
As it is already clear, if suddenly the wi-fi on the Android tablet does not turn on, and the password was automatically saved during the previous connection, it may very well be that it was simply changed. To solve the problem, go to the settings of the wireless module itself, delete the old password and enter a new one. As a last resort - just check the correctness of the input (maybe the keyboard layout has been switched).
Date and time settings
Another reason (although quite rare) is incorrect date and time settings on the gadget itself. This, in some, so to speak, abnormal cases can lead to such problems.
The method of correcting when wi-fi on Android does not turn on in relation to such a situation is to go to the date and time settings and, in addition to manual settings, use the date, time and time zone of the network.
Failures of the software part
It also happens that the problem is "buried" much deeper. So, for example, there are cases when the wi-fi button on Android does not turn on. What does this mean? Yes, only that there was a critical failure in the software responsible for the functioning of this module in the system.
As practice shows, it is not always possible to automatically correct this state of affairs. Therefore, many experts recommend installing a special utility called Wi-Fi Fixer. It is notable for the fact that nothing needs to be changed in its settings and parameters. The program is simply installed on the device, launched, and automatically corrects errors during scanning for possible problems. True, this does not always work.
Settings glitches and master reset
If the previous methods did not help and wi-fi still does not turn on on Android, it is very likely that there is a disruption in the operation of the system itself or in its settings. The correction of the situation, and at the same time the cure can be a complete reset of the parameters to the factory state.
At the same time, in the recovery and reset section, you should first put a checkmark in front of the auto-recovery line (after a reset, when the system is rebooted, all personal data and files, including applications, can be restored without problems). Then a hard reset is simply selected, followed by a system reboot. By the way, note that in this case you won't need a hard reset, everything is perfectly restored anyway (provided, of course, that the system is not infected with viruses and has the original firmware).
Viruses
Exposure to viruses can also cause Wi-Fi not to turn on on Android. Today, you can find a fairly large number of owners of mobile gadgets who prefer not to use standard anti-virus applications, believing that they greatly load system resources. This is partly true. However, modern mobile antiviruses are able not only to prevent viruses from entering the system, but also to block access to the device if it is lost or stolen.
If there is a problem with viruses, you should install the appropriate application. But what if the wi-fi doesn't work? It's very simple. Firstly, the program can be downloaded as an APK file from a computer, then transferred to a removable memory card and installed, and then fully check the system. Secondly, the installation can be done directly from a computer terminal or laptop if you have a control application like PC Companion or something else, of course, using a gadget connection using a regular USB cable.
What to install is a personal matter. However, among all the variety of such applications, we can recommend 360 Security, which today is recognized as one of the most powerful, the same Dr. Web or McAffee. However, as it is already clear, it is very difficult to advise something specific.
Problems with firmware

Here the situation is such that the firmware can be installed without problems, but it was originally designed for a different gadget model or has software flaws. Here you will have to remove it and restore the factory shell. This is done differently for different devices. Router settings
Finally, it may well happen that the access settings "fly off" on the router. In this case, we consider the situation when the owner of both the router and the mobile device is one user, and the connection to an extraneous private network is not made.
Please note that in the wireless mode settings on the router in the channel selection field, the parameter ("Auto") should be set automatically, in the mode line - "Mixed" (11 b / g / n), and filtering should also be disabled MAC addresses (OFF).
If all else fails
It remains to add that if none of the above methods gave a positive result and the Wi-Fi still does not turn on, most likely the problem lies in the Wi-Fi module itself. Serious reasons for not working Wi-Fi
If you have a problem with connecting to Wi-Fi, then first you need to determine what is the reason: in a router or in a laptop.
The easiest way to find out what the problem is is to connect another device to your router or connect your laptop to a different Wi-Fi network.
Wi-Fi router / router not configured
Before connecting to a wireless network, you need to configure the router. If you have not done this, then you should find on the Internet instructions for the router of your model and for your specific provider.
To find out if the connection from the provider is working, you need to check in the WAN tab in the admin panel or the indicator on the router. If the connection from the provider does not work, then the problem may be as follows:
- The admin panel contains incorrect settings for connecting to the provider.
- The router is defective.
- Problems from the provider. To exclude or confirm this option, you can contact the provider.
Wi-Fi does not work on the laptop - the receiver is defective (burned out)
Sometimes laptop Wi-fi just stops working. The network connection is either missing or unstable. The reason may be a breakdown of the Wi-fi module in the laptop. Then it may need to be replaced or repaired.
The most likely reason for laptop not connecting internet after operating system reinstallation is your new operating system's inability to find and install a driver that matches your network card.
As a rule, to install a driver on a network adapter, you must use the driver disk that comes with your laptop, and you can also download the required driver from the manufacturer's website for a specific model of your device.
You can check for the driver installed on the network adapter in the Device Manager.
Wi-Fi module is not included in your laptop
There are 2 ways to enable the Wi-Fi adapter programmatically, if it was previously disabled in the OS settings:
1. Through the Network and Sharing Center. You need to enter the ncpa.cpl command in the input window after pressing the Win + R combination. This command will open "Change adapter settings", from there you need to go to "Wireless network connection". If the network adapter icon is gray, then you need to enable it.
2. Through the device manager. If the adapter is disabled in Device Manager, then the Wireless Network Connection icon will not appear in Network Connections. Then, as in point 1, you need to press Win + R. Then you need to enter the devmgmt.msc command, it will open the device manager. Next, we find a device that contains Wi-Fi or Wireless in its name, and after clicking the right mouse button, you need to click "Activate". If the adapter does not turn on, then you need to check if there are suitable drivers.
Firewall or antivirus blocking internet access
Sometimes security elements of your OS can prevent your laptop from connecting to Wi-Fi: antivirus or firewall.
If the problem is in the firewall, then it is not difficult to solve the problem: you just need to disable it in the system settings.
If the antivirus suits the obstacles, then you must either end the necessary processes through the task manager, or you can disable the antivirus itself.
Viruses and Malware blocking Wi-Fi
If you do not have an antivirus installed or it is outdated, then there is a high probability that you will encounter a virus blocker. Such viruses block your Internet access, allegedly due to a violation of the law. Such a virus works very simply: it registers its DNS servers in the network settings, and your browser only finds a fraudulent website. To fix the problem, you just need to change the DNS servers to the ones that suit you.
There may be too many devices connected to your wi-fi. Look at and turn off the most active who "clog" the Internet channel.
Many factors affect the speed of Wi-Fi. These include both external problems and the case may be in the device.
The most common reasons are:
- The laptop's network adapter and Wi-Fi router have different capabilities.
- An unauthorized connection has occurred to your router.
- The influence of electrical appliances.
- Incorrect router location.
- The wireless channel is being affected by another router.
- The equipment is out of date.
Advice: To make your Wi-Fi work faster, try restarting your router, rearranging it to a different location, or updating its firmware.
If, before reinstalling Windows, the Wi-Fi on the laptop worked properly, then the reason may only be in the drivers. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon, go to the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" button. In the list that appears, the exclamation mark icons indicate those devices for which the driver is not installed.
Find out your motherboard model (if you have a desktop computer) or your laptop model (can be seen under the battery). Then go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers for your network card. After installing them, wi-fi will appear on your computer again.
Wifi button not working on lenovo / HP / asus / acer laptop - how to fix?
You can fix a non-working button only by replacing the entire laptop keyboard, order a keyboard from your laptop and replace the old one with a new one yourself, or take your laptop to a service.
Important! While the button does not work, you can turn on wi-fi on your laptop without a button, using OS Windows. To do this, click: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Network and Internet" - "Network and Sharing Center". On the left, click on the item: "Changing adapter parameters". Next, we are looking for a wireless network, right-click on it and select the item - ON.
What to do if the wifi driver does not work on a laptop?
In this state of affairs, we have no options, we need to either update the old driver, or delete the existing driver and install a new one.
To remove the current driver from your wi-fi - right-click on the "My Computer" icon, go to the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" button. Next in the list, we look for your network card and remove all network equipment, then restart the computer and install a new driver for Wi-Fi.
It is also possible that there are no new drivers for modern operating systems on your wi-fi adapter (network card), in which case you need to return the old operating system.

Strange situation, isn't it? Honestly, I didn't know the exact solution, and I don't know now :).
There were thoughts that this provider is simply conducting authorization through the computer. And if you turn off the computer, then the Internet on the Wi-Fi router disappears. But these were only guesses and I kept them to myself.
Each provider uses some kind of chip for authorizing clients, different settings, technologies, etc.
But, as it turned out, my guesses were not very far from solving this problem. Comment author (which is in the screenshot above) shared with me the solution, for which many thanks to him!
Unfortunately, I was not able to ask him in more detail, but here is what helped him get rid of the network disconnection when the computer was turned off:
Here is the solution! I think there was the whole problem with the static IP address. It most likely was not registered in the router, but it was registered in the properties of the local network connection on the computer. And when the computer was turned on, the provider received this IP and the Internet worked. And when the computer was turned off (disconnected), the Internet did not work.
Or it's all about the MAC address, which I also advise you to immediately clone to the router. It could be anything, though.

The surest solution in such a situation is to call the support service of your provider. They should deal with such issues, and not you torment yourself and spend hours looking for solutions on the Internet.
I'm still going to write an article that the support service (not only provider) in most cases it helps to solve various problems and in short lines. I do not understand why, when users cannot configure something, or does not work, they themselves start looking for a solution to the problem, and do not ask the support of the manufacturer, provider, etc.

Sorry for not giving precise instructions on how to solve the problem with the lack of Internet on the router when the router is disconnected from the computer.
