Chrome for old computers. Browser for weak computers

Not everyone can afford a computer that is equipped with the latest technology and works fast. Some owners of weak PCs simply do not want to get rid of it, but it is very difficult to use such a machine even for banal surfing the Internet. In this case, you can find a fast and lightweight browser. The task is not the easiest, but still solvable. From this article you will learn how to choose a web browser for your weak PC.

Web browser for a weak computer

As such, there is no definition - "weak computer". Over time, a good PC will become irrelevant and will be considered obsolete.

It all depends on the characteristics of the PC, for example, users look at the RAM (RAM), processor clock speed and number of cores, video card (memory, frequency) and, last but not least, the size of the hard drive.

What is the lightest browser?

To understand this, you need to install several web browsers. Next, we will run them one by one under the same conditions, that is, the same pages will be loaded at startup.

For comparison, take the following three web pages:

Each time the site is opened, we will call "Task Manager", where we pay attention to the processor load and memory.

Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge

Since the PC does not shine with performance, you can use what the system offers - a standard browser. Although Internet Explorer not so convenient and not many use it at all, yet it consumes less memory than the well-known Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox.

1. Launch the Internet Explorer browser on the page http://lumpics.ru/about/. IN "Task Manager" pay attention to "Memory"- 66.7 MB.

Actually, this can be the end. Now it's up to you to decide which web browser to choose for your weak PC.

Hello everyone It seemed to me that I was well versed in hardware and software. Well, maybe not just super, but enough to advise you on how to solve this or that problem related to software or hardware. So. But if someone had asked me six months ago what was the fastest browser in the world, I would have answered Mozilla. And he would be right, because if you do not delve into the topic of browsers, then it seems to be exactly how Mozilla loads the site page the fastest.

But I was wrong.. And it all happened when I bought a board with a soldered Atom 330 processor on the cheap - small and remote. It has two cores, but there is Hyper-threading technology, that is, there are 4 threads in total, and in Windows it is shown as 4 cores. Well, I thought, that's great, but I was a little upset when I realized that, of course, the performance was not enough. Well, what to expect from a mobile processor

So. I started thinking about how I can make pages in the browser load faster. And then I installed Mozilla, but alas, it was too heavy for the Atom processor. Well then I installed Chrome. And the benefit of memory was enough (4 gigabytes), then Chrome somehow, but worked. Sites loaded even heavy ones, even if it was a bit of a wait. But I thought again, is it possible to find some kind of browser that will be like a rocket. And you won't believe it, I found it, it's called Pale Moon!

Pale Moon is a Mozilla-based browser that is somehow smartly optimized for both conventional processors and Atoms. I installed it and I was shocked - many pages really loaded much faster, the interface is nice, it doesn’t load anything and eats a little RAM.

There is a version for both 32-bit Windows and 64. Both XP and Windows 10 are supported. You can download from the official website, or write in the Pale Moon search engine and the official website should be in the first position:

There you download the version for your Windows. Installed without jokes, during installation it is not proposed to install either Yandex-software or Mail-software, this is already good

At the first start, you will be prompted to import the settings from some other browser:

The last point here is sort of to refuse imports.

Also, during installation, you will be prompted to leave the Pale Moon home page or import it from the Internet Explorer browser:

That's all, then the browser will be installed and you can try what kind of Pale Moon browser it is. It seems to translate as Pale Moon .. But I could be wrong

So, after launching the browser, you will have an unpleasant cant. Well, maybe it doesn't matter to some, but there is no Russian language in the browser. But don't worry, I'll show you how to implement it there!

This is what Pale Moon looks like:

As you can see, in a word, it looks good and comfortable.

I’ll tell you right away that all these unnecessary buttons, the search bar (well, the one on the side of the address bar), all these bookmarks - you can remove all this and customize the browser for yourself.

Now about the Russian language. Let's go to this site:

palemoon.org/langpacks.shtml

Then down there we look for something like ru.xpi - this is the Russian language for the browser, look, here it is:

Click on ru.xpi and there will be such a window, then click Install Now:

Then you should see such a message, saying that the language is installed normally and there are no jambs:

Almost everything, now it remains only to activate the Russian language. See how to do it, first go to this address:

In the next message, click the I promise to be careful button:

Now watch what you're doing, paste this:

general.useragent.locale

In the Search field and press enter:

This is where you should see the line general.useragent.locale, this line is a parameter that specifies the browser language. Here en-US is now indicated, but we need to change it to Russian! To do this, double-click on this line, the following window will appear:

And here you change en-US to ru-RU, so that it becomes like this:

Click OK in this window and that's it, now you can press F5 for the test, if it says that there are dragons here, then you did everything right:

Now, in order for the browser to become completely in Russian, it must be closed and launched, that is, restarted

Well, that's all, so I opened the menu and everything is in Russian:

So there is nothing complicated here. Well, without departing from the checkout, I will also show you how to install a Russian spelling dictionary in Pale Moon!

To be honest, either I don’t remember or there is simply no such setting where you can add a dictionary. Therefore, I propose to do this, so open any page where there is a text field, for example, I opened the Yandex search engine. And right-click on the text field and check the Spell check box:

After that, right-click again and there will already be the Languages menu, and inside it the Add Dictionaries item:

Then a tab will open, by the way, Mozilla, and there you need to find Russian and click on Install Dictionary. Immediately I advise you to hold down Ctrl + F and enter Russian in the search, so you will find it faster:

Dictionary I advise you to install the one that is bigger. Well, there are probably more words, which means a better check, well, in general, I chose the one that is bigger ..

Then you will need to click on Add to Firefox:

And then there will be a message saying there are no jambs, everything is installed normally:

After that, you will need to check the spell check again, and then Russian will be automatically selected:

Well, you see how it all turned out. I wanted to tell you about Pale Moon, but in the end I told you how to put the Russian language in it and how to add a Russian dictionary for spell checking. Well, how else, this is the first thing to do so that the browser is more or less comfortable to use.

By the way, here is the settings window (you can get into it if you click on the Pale Moon menu button in the upper left corner and select an item there):

That is, you see it as if Mozilla, but not quite modern. All right. Pale Moon is not made on the latest version, but rather on the one that is still modern. In general, she supports everything, and YouTube and all sites, and flash and video, in general, everything works there. It's just that the version of Mozilla, as a basis, is not the freshest here, but just fresh.

I don't know if you will like this browser or not, but in general I don't see any strong reasons why you might NOT like it. Here are the benefits I see in it:

Well, like everything I wrote that I had to! I strongly advise you to try this browser and understand that I’m not making it up, it’s really very fast and even somewhat reminiscent of Opera 12. And this, well, I haven’t seen such a browser yet, as for me, this is the best browser that can be today.

At my work, I have a weak, obsolete computer with 512 meters of RAM and Windows XP.

The eternal problem - slows down, freezes, especially at the end of the day.

I clean Windows with all sorts of cleaners, utilities, optimizers, but I don’t get any tangible effect.

With browsers, there is an eternal problem - they load the system, eat an unfortunate and already frail operative. My favorite Opera finally disappoints. She became like Firefox - fat and clumsy. Google Chrome, which is praised so much as the fastest and clearest - on my computer it’s not fast and clear, for some reason it loads the system and the flash player is always buggy in it. He has finally a wonderful feature: he is updated without millet in the background. And it can't be turned off anywhere. Suddenly, the computer starts to slow down terribly, I climb into the task manager - and this dear chrome decided to upgrade and loads the CPU by 80%.

Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Yandex browser - not suitable for weak computers. A special horror begins when you enter heavy sites such as slando or ria.ua - a bunch of loading interface elements, the browser slows down and drags the entire computer along with it.

I would like to say about the Opera that it is like the Dynamo football club (Kyiv). We love everyone for a long time, but lagged behind in development and became heavy and poorly developed, buggy in modern conditions, but still having an old crowd of loyal fans who suffer, but use it and everyone is waiting, waiting for it to become the best and competitive again. A huge plus of Opera is awesome customizability. A bunch of settings, you can customize the browser for yourself and your needs. In Chrome settings - the cat cried.

I rummaged through a lot of information on the internet, read a lot of opinions and reviews. I was looking for an EASY browser to eat less resources on a weak computer. Installed several little-known browsers that position themselves as "light and fast". For example, Browsar Winstyle. Yes, they are light and fast. But fucking not comfortable and crookedly working. So that's not an option either.

As a result, I settled on Comodo Dragon. Externally and internally similar to Chrome, because it is made on the Chromium open source engine. Calls itself "a faster, more secure version of Chrome".

And you know what? So yes! I achieved what I wanted - on my weak computer, the browser works quickly. Really nimble compared to the rest, correctly loads pages and all content. I don't know how it works in Windows 7, but in XP it's great. Heavy modern sites load noticeably faster than in other well-known browsers.

Who has a weak computer and Windows XP - I warmly recommend the Comodo Dragon browser

When choosing a program to work on the World Wide Web, many are mainly interested in what is currently the fastest browser for Windows 7.

Although there are just a huge number of other criteria for choosing a browser.

To date, you can find and download many "self-written" browsers, that is, those that were developed by novice programmers, and not by teams of professionals.

So, their main drawback is the speed of work.

There is no mention of data security and safety.

In any case, today we will analyze all the main characteristics that will help you choose a program for accessing the Internet, and the main one will be the speed of work.

As for how this very speed will be tested, a very simple method will be chosen, which is to launch the browser or perform other operations on it with a stopwatch.

In particular, the speed will be tested on such operations as launching the browser itself, opening the site site, authorization in the Google mail account, launching the video and installation speed.

Testing will not be done on a new computer.

This choice is due to the fact that we want to achieve maximum objectivity of research.

Yes, such tests usually use "clean" machines, but after all, we all do not have the opportunity to reinstall the operating system every month.

This would make it possible to make a completely “clean” machine out of the order of a used computer.

In general, the conditions will not be easy as close to reality as possible, they will be quite real. Go!

Opera

This browser was released in 1994. Until 2013, he worked on his own engine, then switched to Webkit + V8, which is familiar to many developers, which, by the way, is also used a little in Google Chrome.

It is the fifth most popular web browser in the world according to research by some sites. Users love the mobile version, which is called Opera Mini.

The main advantage of this program is its excellent ability to save traffic. This allows many users to pay less for internet.

You can download this browser absolutely free on the official website www.opera.com/ru.

This site has one big "Download Now" button, which allows you to start downloading.

For our tests, the latest version downloaded from the official site will be taken.

Speed tests gave the following results:

  • Browser startup time - 3 s;
  • Website opening time - 2 s;
  • Video start time - 2 s;
  • Installation time - 1.3 minutes (from launching the installer program to closing it).

By the way, the design of the installation window for this program is very beautiful, but at the same time minimalistic.

The installation process itself takes very little time.

The user only needs to press one button and nothing else - he does not choose a path, does not read a bunch of license terms, does not watch presentations, and so on.

On the one hand, this is, of course, good, because a simple user does not need all this.

But some will say that this is bad, because "who knows what they write in the license there."

But since we evaluate the speed of work, then in this regard, Opera shows itself perfectly.

Other Advantages and Disadvantages of Opera

In addition to speed when choosing a program for accessing the Internet, it will also be useful to know about the following advantages of Opera:

  1. Saving traffic. A proprietary feature of this browser.
  2. The presence of Turbo mode, which allows you to work even faster on slow computers and still save traffic.
  3. Own express panel with bookmarks. In other browsers, this function must be installed additionally. Yes, there are bookmark bars, but they are not as functional.
  4. Hot keys of management. In fact, this browser can be controlled without a mouse.
  5. Ease of work. Opera is not loaded with plugins for privacy and other similar functions, so it can work many times faster.

The disadvantages of Opera include the following:

  1. On older machines, it may not work at all. On the other hand, nothing from the modern standard user set already works on them. And who now uses such old computers?
  2. Incorrect work of some scripts. In defense of Opera, we can also say that not all scripts that exist today work on other browsers.
    Complaints about the instability of work - restarts, throws out, and so on. It also occurs not so often - whoever is not lucky will have to restart.

Google Chrome

This browser was released in 2008 - relatively recently.

Its direct ancestor is the Safari browser, which they also tried to adapt to Windows, but these attempts were unsuccessful - it turned out to be too slow, and often restarted.

Safari is originally designed for Mac computers. Google Chrome runs on its own engine called Chrominium.

Last year, this browser was the first in many polls in Runet.

You can download Google Chrome on the official website - www.google.ru/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html (a very non-standard link that could be shortened).

There is also a single button that needs to be pressed.

By the way, here, on the download site, you can read the license agreement, as well as set Google Chrome as the default browser and check the box for sending work reports to Google.

By the way, many refuse the latter.

To do this, you just need to uncheck the box highlighted in green in Figure 4.

Testing the speed of this browser gave the following results:

  • Browser startup time - 4 s;
  • Website opening time - 5 s;
  • Authorization time in the Google mail account - 1 s;
  • Video start time - 1 s;
  • Installation time - 1.5 min.

When installing here, by the way, some additional content is downloaded, which makes the whole process a little longer.

Otherwise, Google Chrome performs really well, but still a little worse than Opera.

And despite the fact that it is this browser that many authors of such articles call the fastest.

As you can see, tests in real conditions gave a different result.

Advantages and disadvantages of Google Chrome

Also, users who choose a program to access the Internet will be very useful to know about the following benefits of Google Chrome:

  1. Security. This is given great attention here. Google Chrome has a huge number of additional programs and scripts that protect against all sorts of attacks and viruses. In addition, this browser has its own database with these same viruses and malicious sites.
  2. Mode "Incognito", which allows you to quietly be on different sites. This means that the site will not leave a cookie or any other information about the stay of a user working in Incognito mode.
  3. stability at work. It is very rare to hear about Google Chrome that it is reloading or failing to withstand a large number of sites.
  4. Your "Task Manager", which makes it possible to see how many resources a particular site consumes, as well as a plugin.
  5. Normal work with extensions. It is also very rare to hear complaints about this.
  6. Voice search control.

The disadvantages include the following:

  1. No support for NPAPI plugins since version 42.0. A lot of modern plugins work on this platform. And users are faced with the difficulties of installing them or even with the inability to complete this task.

Otherwise, Google Chrome performs just fine.

As you can see, its speed is not too much inferior to Opera, therefore, given all the other advantages, it is not surprising that this particular browser is called the best to date.

Mozilla Firefox

In 2014, in all foreign surveys, this browser took a strong first place. But then the two programs described above took the lead from Mozilla Firefox.

Still, what contribution the “cunning fox”, as many users call it, has made to the development of browsers in general deserves respect.

The fact is that Mozilla Firefox became the first browser in the world that had its own database of extensions. It was for him that the first extensions and plugins began to be written.

Not surprisingly, as of 2017, it is Mozilla Firefox that has the largest base of extensions.

In addition, it was in this browser that privacy mode first appeared.

Today, this idea is actively used by Google specialists, including the development of the aforementioned Google Chrome.

The first version of this program was released in 2004 on the Gecko engine. To this day, in terms of the engine, nothing has changed.

But this does not prevent the program from constantly improving and gaining new market positions.

Although, of course, since 2014 Mozilla Firefox has lost a lot of popularity.

It is also most convenient to download this browser on the official page - www.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/new/.

By good tradition, the site has one big “Download for free” button.

The site no longer has any license agreements. And in general, the download occurs automatically and this process does not delay anything.

In the installer window, you can use additional settings. The settings window is shown in Figure 6.

As you can see, you can specify in it where the program shortcuts should be installed, the installation path, and whether this browser should be made the main one.

Advice: When installing, be sure to use the advanced settings window, because otherwise, program shortcuts will appear on the taskbar, on the desktop and in the Start menu, which users often do not need! In addition, installation information will be sent to Mozilla, and the browser itself will become the default browser.

To open this very window of additional settings at startup, click the "Settings" button, highlighted in Figure No. 7.

The installation itself also begins with downloading additional files. This, of course, makes the process longer.

Mozilla Firefox uptime tests yielded the following results:

  • Browser startup time - 5 s;
  • Website opening time - 3 s;
  • Authorization time in the Google mail account - 1 s;
  • Video start time - 2 s;
  • Installation time - 1.35 min.

Advantages and disadvantages of Mozilla Firefox

The benefits of Mozilla Firefox are as follows:

  1. Reliability at work. There are plugins that can "kill" absolutely all browsers except Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Security and privacy at the highest level. This is the only browser of its kind that can block the collection of information about a particular user by sites, including Google. This makes it possible not to see annoying ads that are generated at the request of this user.
  3. Version updates happen in the background.
  4. In addition, the widest base of plug-ins and extensions mentioned above should also be included here.

The disadvantages of Mozilla Firefox are:

  1. Immunity of some modern scripts.
  2. Frequent complaints about slow operation, especially at high loads.

From all this, we can conclude that Mozilla Firefox clearly cannot be considered the fastest browser for Windows 7.

Yandex browser

This is the youngest modern browser among those used by several million people. Users first heard about this browser in 2012.

Now, in 2017, Yandex is actively promoting its product using contextual advertising. Here, of course, everything is aimed at working directly with Yandex services.

So in this browser by default there is already mail, a translator, a disk, money and everything else that the most popular Russian search engine only offers.

By the way, the engine in Yandex.Browser is the same Chromium. Many users say that this program has its own quick launch panel, which is called "Scoreboard" here.

This is considered a feature of Yandex.Browser, but for a simple layman, this is practically the same bookmarks bar that is in the same Opera.

True, there it is much more functional.

You can host 20 different sites on Tablo.

An interesting feature of this browser is the work with mouse gestures.

This means that there is a certain set of gestures that are formed by certain cursor movements and perform certain functions.

There are also a huge number of extensions and plugins, most of which are taken from the already beloved Google Chrome.

This is due to the fact that these two browsers run on the same Chromium engine.

You can download Yandex.Browser on the official website - browser.yandex.ru.

Although, if you visit the site yandex.ru several times, you will definitely see an advertisement for this browser and you can follow the link to download it.

This site also has a great big "Download" button.

The results of testing the speed of this browser gave the following results:

  • Browser startup time - 11 s;
  • Website opening time - 4 s (the first launch, by the way, gave a result of 24 seconds);
  • Authorization time in the Google mail account - 4 s;
  • Video start time - 2 s;
  • Installation time - 2.10 min.

During installation, it is also possible to make Yandex.Browser the default browser and make it possible to send data to Yandex specialists.

To do this, check the box marked in green in Figure 9.

Most users prefer to uncheck these boxes, which is not at all surprising.

As you can see, in terms of speed, Yandex.Browser clearly loses to the same Mozilla Firefox.

Advantages and disadvantages of Yandex.Browser

The advantages of Yandex.Browser are as follows:

  1. Developers pay great attention to security. So the program automatically checks a particular site for suspicion. It has its own criteria for suspiciousness (Web of Trust), as well as programs installed by default to block phishing attacks and ads.
  2. Own system for viewing documents in such formats as .pdf, .doc and others.
  3. Your translator.
  4. Turbo mode, like in Opera.

The disadvantages include the following:

  1. The imposition of Yandex services, which many users do not like. Although, on the other hand, this browser was created precisely for this.
    A lot of people don't like the interface.
  2. Difficulties in setting. Many functions that are in the same Opera or Mozilla are simply not here in Yandex.Browser.

In general, from all this we can conclude that Yandex.Browser is far from the fastest and most optimized browser.

Maxthon

Now let's move on to some somewhat exotic browsers that are not as popular as Yandex Browser, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome.

One of the quite promising in this direction is a browser called Maxthon.

Its main feature is a combination of two engines at once - Webkit and Trident. Some parts of the former are used in Yandex Browser, Opera and Google Chrome.

And the second was used to create the very first Internet Explorer browser in history. Thanks to this combination, in fact, it was possible to achieve a very high speed.

At least, this is what the developers of this program say.

In principle, people write on the forums that in some cases it works even faster than the vaunted Google Chrome.

But to check this, there is only one way, which we now use.

Maxthon's speed test readings look like this:

  • Browser startup time - 0.7 s;
  • Website opening time - 1 s;
  • Authorization time in the Google mail account - 0.6 s;
  • Video start time - 0.8 s;
  • Installation time - 1.17 min.

As you can see, Maxthon really shows just a phenomenal result! But speed is far from the only advantage of this browser.

Advantages and disadvantages of Maxthon

The advantages of the Maxthon browser are as follows:

  1. Working with cloud storage - all personal settings, records and authorization data are not stored on the hard drive, but in the cloud. This prevents the user from losing it all.
  2. It takes a few resources to run the browser.
  3. It is possible to remove ads without additional plugins.
  4. A huge number of extensions.
  5. Its own security system, which, judging by the reviews, works very well.
  6. Notepad for notes.
  7. Night view mode, which optimizes those pages that have a dark background, too many ads, or other nuances that make reading information inconvenient.

In general, we can say that Maxthon is a very, very multifunctional thing.

On the side there is a toolbar that contains the same notepad, a download manager, a tool for working with RSS, as well as several Yandex services.

Its disadvantages include only the fact that it still also promotes these same Yandex services. But Yandex.Browser is still very far from Maxthon!

So every user should definitely try to use Maxthon in their work.

No. 11. Appearance of the Maxthon browser
