Ccleaner does not work on this version of Windows. CCleaner does not start: what to do

Cases when CCleaner won't start, in fact, not so much. However, they do exist. What can cause this, and most importantly - what to do about it?

CCleaner does not start: what is to blame and what to do?

  • The most common reason is that the launch is blocked by some malicious application. Any virus will desperately resist if you try to remove it. But specialized anti-virus programs easily suppress such resistance, and Ccleaner, although it is able to remove malware in some cases, is still not trained in resistance. So the virus is blocking it.
  • Solution: download CCleaner Portable version. It does not require installation on a hard drive and is loaded from a removable USB drive. You also need to update the anti-virus databases and scan the entire system.
  • As silly as it sounds, you can simply try restarting your computer. Sometimes a reboot saves a lot of problems. You can also check if CCleaner is hanging in the processes. If you try to "kill" it from the Task Manager, then it is quite possible that Ccleaner will start. If the process cannot be closed, you need to reboot again.
  • It is possible that Ccleaner has been configured to run in minimized mode. If so, then you should look for the Ccleaner icon in the system tray and launch it from there.
  • It is also possible that for some reason the program files were damaged. This can happen, for example, as a result of a virus attack. You should completely uninstall CCleaner, including all its folders and files, and download the latest version from the official website. In more than half of the cases, it helped. The removal of the program itself is not recommended by regular means. You can use a special utility, such as Revo Uninstaller, by running it in advanced mode.
  • The reason that CCleaner won't launchWindows 7 , the version may become incompatible with the operating system.
  • In rare cases, there may be a “broken” program shortcut on the Desktop. It is necessary through the Start menu to go to the location of the program itself and create a shortcut from the context menu, then place it on the Desktop. The old label, of course, must be deleted.
  • The following way to solve the problem was also noticed. You need to rename the root folder of the program to "CCleaner 1". Without quotes, of course.

Solution one: download the latest version from the official website or simply update CCleaner. Solution two: right click on the program icon, select the tab "Properties" - "Compatibility" and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box. From the drop-down menu, select the desired version of Windows or try them all.

In general, if CCleaner won't start, there is no need to panic. As a last resort, you can always turn to some forum for help. Almost always members of the forum go forward in such situations - and the problem will be quickly resolved.

CCleaner is one of the most popular computer cleaning software that helps to avoid various failures in the Windows system. But sometimes it fails to start due to errors or for some unknown reason. Let's try to figure out why such a necessary program may not work.

CCleaner won't start on windows 7, 8.1, 10

It happens that for some unknown reason, CCleaner just stops running. This may be due to viruses or a glitch in the system.

You need to download Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and scan your computer for viruses, especially the program folder. Even if you have Nod or another antivirus installed, this will not hurt. If a virus was found, remove it. After that, the program will work. If nothing is found, then move on.

Rename the CCleaner folder to something else, for example, add a number at the end. Strange as it may seem, sometimes it helps.

If the previous methods did not help, then we move on to the last method, which usually solves the problem with starting CCleaner in 90% of cases.

Treatment with the AVZ antivirus utility

Download the AVZ antivirus utility: Download AVZ 4

Go to the folder with the program and rename the avz.exe file to any other (for example, avz2.exe).

Run the program, select a file, update databases and click start. Next, go to the Troubleshooting Wizard, select System Problems and run.

As a result, select the entire list and click "Fix problems".

And the last step. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run a scan. Remove found viruses.

What to do if nothing helped?

You need to do some work with your system. We propose to do this with the help of two useful programs.

1. Update drivers with Driver Booster. This is really cool software that often helps. Updating old drivers to new ones is one of the key requirements for the normal functioning of games and programs on a computer.

You might think that Windows always notifies users when new updates are available. So it is, it shows alerts, but only for updates for Windows and the video card. But besides this, there are many more drivers that need to be updated regularly.

2. Repair PC with Reimage Repair. Run this program to analyze your system for errors (and they will be 100%). Then you will be asked to cure them, both individually and all at once.

A situation may arise that at one point the program will stop working. If you open it, it will start, but after a few seconds it will crash.

Troubleshooting

Most likely, the cause of this failure was viral activity. Malicious software prevents the start of the sickliner. In this case, it must be removed. But the error may occur due to corrupted program files. Then it should be reinstalled.

Method 1: AVZ Utility

The problem that CCleaner does not start is sometimes caused by the activity of viruses. They block the program. Accordingly, they must first be removed. Conventional antiviruses are not always able to detect a threat. In this situation, the solution is to use the AVZ utility.

Extract the archive to any folder. Rename the avz.exe file as you like. For example, cycliner.exe. If you skip this step, the utility may not open because it will be blocked by a virus. Now open the menu "File - Database Update". Then click on "Start".
Close the window, call again "File", but this time the instrument Search Wizard.... In the category column, enter "System Problems", and in the threat level - "All Problems". Then press "Start".
Highlight an item "Debugger detected..." and click on the fix button.

Now try running CCleaner. The program should work stably, and not crash after a few seconds. Move on to the next method if this is not the case.

Method 2: Reinstall

Since the previous option did not help, it's not a virus threat. This means that the data of the seeliner itself is corrupted. The logical solution in this case would be to reinstall the utility. Read the details of its uninstallation in the article "

CCleaner is a powerful free tool designed to clean your computer of various junk and speed up the operating system. It has a clear Russian-language interface, but due to the variety of features, many users have various questions regarding the operation of the program. Therefore, we decided to write a detailed guide on how to use ccleaner.

Why is it needed

Over time, a lot of absolutely unnecessary garbage accumulates on the computer's hard drive. These are temporary and not used files for a long time, their duplicates, incompletely removed programs, various logs and system data, registry errors, missing entries, and much more. All this not only takes up extra space, but also reduces the performance of the computer. To clean the operating system from all this rubbish, ccleaner was created, designed to find and remove (fix) everything unnecessary, without violating the stability of work.

First, download the latest version of ccleaner and install it on your computer. This process is standard, so questions should not arise at this stage.

Getting to know the interface

After installing and running ccleaner, you will see the main menu of the program, which can be conditionally divided into 3 parts.

1) The menu of functional tools, which includes the elements of cleaning the computer, the service menu and the menu of general program settings.

2) A section where you can choose what exactly you want to clear. For example, you can cancel emptying the Recycle Bin, and not delete quick access lists (the most frequently used applications that appear on the left side of the Start menu).

3) Here, during the cleaning process, information about the operations performed and a report on the operation of the program will appear.

Cleaning the hard drive and registry

1) Cleaning up system junk

First, make sure you're in the Cleanup menu. There are two tabs here - "Windows" and "Applications", in which you can select the cleaning options. By default, ccleaner is already configured to remove as much as possible everything unnecessary, and not affect anything superfluous, so it is recommended to change the settings only for advanced users.

To start the cleaning process, press the button "Analysis" and in a few minutes you will see detailed information about how much free space will be freed up after cleaning is completed, and what data ccleaner will destroy.

Then you just have to press the "Clean" button and go for about 5 minutes (depending on the clutter of the computer, removing garbage can take from 2 to 10 minutes) to smoke. System junk cleanup completed.

2) Cleaning the Windows Registry

Explanation The Windows Registry is a database that contains all the information and settings for the hardware and software components of a computer. Over time, a large amount of erroneous and simply unnecessary data accumulates in the registry (for example, you deleted a boring game a year ago, and its trace is still stored in the registry), due to which the overall computer performance decreases.

To clean the registry, go to the "Registry" tab and click "Search for problems"

After ccleaner finishes analyzing the registry of your operating system, click "Fix ...". Here, the program will offer to save a backup copy of the current state, be sure to agree. If something happens, you can restore everything.

After saving the backup, you will see a window asking you to fix the errors found. Click "Fix Marked" and wait a few seconds. Everything, the process of cleaning the registry is finished.

Additional features

The main task of ccleaner is to clean the hard drive and registry of the operating system, but this program also has additional built-in functions, such as control over startup, removal of installed programs, wiping the hard drive and finding duplicate files. These functions are located in the "Service" tab.

1. Remove programs

Windows has a built-in Programs and Features tool that allows you to uninstall installed applications. CCleaner duplicates this function, but does it better because it sees more installed applications than the standard tool.

Button "Uninstall" responsible, in fact, for uninstalling the program. "Rename"- a function that allows you to change the line with the name of the program (it is not recommended to do this, because errors may occur. ”Button "Delete" allows you to remove an entry from the list of installed programs. This may be needed when you have already uninstalled the application, but for some reason it still appears as installed.

2. Startup control

When you turn on the computer, along with the operating system, some installed programs (antivirus, firewall, etc.) also automatically start. This, no doubt, is convenient if you use the application constantly, but you should not forget that as the startup list grows, the system startup time also increases. With ccleaner, you can audit and disable autoloading of unnecessary programs.

In addition to editing the startup list of the operating system, ccleaner in this menu also allows you to disable add-ons that start with the browser, as well as control the task scheduler (menu "Scheduled tasks", it is recommended to touch them only for experienced users), and edit the context menu list.

3. Search for duplicate files

It often happens that, for example, the same photos on your disk are stored in several places, eating away free hard disk space. In the "Search for files" tab, you can find and remove duplicate existing files.

4. System recovery

This tab in ccleaner allows you to view a list of system restore points and, if necessary, delete unnecessary ones.

5. Erase discs

This tab contains the disk erasing tool. You can choose what exactly to erase (only free space, or just the entire disk), and the number of passes (the more there are, the more difficult it is to recover data in the future).

Why you need to overwrite free space Safe overwriting of free space on the hard drive (at first glance, a strange option - why erase free space anyway?) - a function that allows you to really destroy data, without the possibility of recovery.

CCleaner settings

In the "Settings" menu, which is logical, you can change the parameters of the program. Important - not the cleaning parameters, but the parameters of the ccleaner operation itself, do not confuse.

1. Basic parameters of CCleaner

Here you can change the language of the program, add ccleaner launch items to the context menu, enable automatic cleaning at computer startup and check for updates.

2. Cookies

Here you will see two lists of cookies. On the left side are the cookies of the sites you visited, and on the right side there is a list of cookies that will not be deleted during cleaning. Those. you can add (as well as remove) to the right list the cookies of those services that you visit daily (mail, vkontakte, twitter, etc.) and the next time you clear it, you will not have to log in to them again.

3. Inclusions

Here you can specify additional files and folders that will always be cleared when you run ccleaner.

4. Exceptions

The function is the reverse of the previous one. Here you can specify files, folders and registry paths that ccleaner will never touch during operation.

5. Optional

Additional parameters are stored here. You can, for example, force ccleaner to close when it finishes its work, or turn off the computer.

If the CCleaner program does not start, there can be quite a few reasons. Perhaps the user simply did not give this "cleaner" administrator rights. Or maybe it's some kind of failure within the program itself.

In any case, this problem is very common on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7 operating systems. Now we will analyze everything that can be done in such a situation.

1. Run CCleaner as administrator

The first thing to do when any system cleaning software refuses to work is to run it as an administrator.

The fact is that without such rights, any program and any operation related to access to system resources will not work.

Therefore, right-click on the CCleaner shortcut (on the desktop or in the Start menu) and select "Run as administrator" from the list of options.

It is quite possible that after that the program will work. If not, move on to the next tip.

2. Check antiviruses and firewalls

It is likely that your antivirus or firewall (aka firewall) for some reason decided to block CCleaner. In this case, the "cleaner" will not start and there will be no identification marks of participation in this process of third-party software.

That is, you will not know that the whole thing is in the antivirus program. Therefore, disable it and the firewall for a while. If everything works, then the problem is in them.

Clue: Turning off the antivirus is quite simple - click on its icon in the tray and select the "Exit" option.

With a firewall, things are a little more complicated. The process to turn it off is as follows:

  • Open the command prompt (in the Start menu) also as an administrator (right-click and select the desired menu item).
  • Enter the command "netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off" and press "Enter" on the keyboard.

If the problem is really in the antivirus, then you need to add CCleaner to its exclusions. This is done differently depending on the program.

For example, in Avast, you need to go to the settings and on the "General" tab find the "Exceptions" section, and then use the "Browse" button to specify the path to the CCleaner shortcut.

The same process in the Windows firewall looks like this:

  • In Control Panel, open Windows Firewall. Next, in the open window, on the left, click on "Permission of interaction ...".

  • After that click "Change settings". In the window that opens, click "Allow another application ...".
  • The Add Application window will appear. Near the inscription "Path" click on the "Browse" button and specify the path to the same CCleaner shortcut.
  • Click Add. The program will be listed as an exception.

3. Check tray

Solving the problem can be much easier than it seems at first glance.

The fact is that after installation, CCleaner is immediately placed in the startup folder and then launched along with the operating system, regardless of the user. It's just that the program in this case is minimized to tray and does not open when using a shortcut on the desktop.

If you use the shortcut quick launch bar, that is, it has an arrow on the left, clicking on which opens the entire list of programs in the tray, click on it and launch CCleaner.

And if this shortcut is immediately visible, also double-click on it with the left mouse button. Then the program should start.

4. Rename the shortcut

In some cases, the banal renaming of the shortcut also helps.

To do this, go to the folder where CCleaner is installed. Usually this is "Program Files" on the "C:" drive or on another system drive. There will be two files - "CCleaner64" and just "CCleaner". The first is designed to run on a 64-bit system, and the second on a 32-bit system.

Advice: When you enter the folder, try running both of these files. Perhaps then they will start. This will mean that the shortcut on the desktop is broken and you just need to copy the shortcut from the open folder to the desktop.

If CCleaner does not start here as well, rename "CCleaner64" to "CCleaner641" for example, and do the same with the "CCleaner" shortcut (for example, let it be "CCleaner2").

5. Try running in compatibility mode

Another very interesting way to solve the problem is as follows:

  • Right-click on the CCleaner shortcut.
  • In the menu that appears, select "Properties".
  • In the window that opens, go to the "Compatibility" tab.
  • In the "Compatibility Mode" section, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode..." box.
  • Select any version of the operating system below, for example, Windows 8. If CCleaner still does not work, do the same, only select a different OS.

If this does not help, you will have to uninstall and reinstall CCleaner.

6. Reinstall the program

To uninstall CCleaner, you need to go to the "Control Panel" and select "Uninstall a program" there.

In the window that opens, you just have to find CCleaner and click on it, and then follow the instructions of the removal wizard - click on the "Next" button several times and agree to uninstall the program.

Then download the latest version of CCleaner, for example, and install it on your computer. It is likely that the computer cleaning software will start working normally again.

7. Check your computer for viruses

In the end, you need to check your OS for viruses. If none of the above helped, then this is exactly the reason.

Those who have a reliable antivirus, such as Kaspersky, can use it and perform a full scan of all files. But owners of unreliable antivirus software, for example, Dr.Web, should download one of the virus removal utilities.

Here are the best of them:

This will help solve the problem with CCleaner refusing to start.
