ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS motherboard review. Asus Prime B250-Plus motherboard review and test: Mid-range

Motherboard ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS was taken to replace the not entirely successful motherboard ASRock B250M Pro4... The price for it today is $ 89-90. The board compares favorably with its predecessor, so I hope there won't be any problems with it.

Since the motherboard is full-format ATX, its box is correspondingly large. Packaging is arranged in a standard manner ASUS latest time ...

On the box is a photo of the motherboard itself, the main characteristics, features and elements of the board are indicated.

We open the box, see what's inside ... The motherboard is in an antistatic bag. The package bundle is not rich:

DVD driver and software. ASUS has long gravitated towards black, it was not without it here - usually a white paper bag with installation disc, here in black ...

The bag contains two SATA cables ...

Steel decorative panel ...

Brochure - User Guide, i.e. user manual, ASUS website has more detailed manuals.

Two more pieces of paper: quick guide for installing the motherboard and warranty.

We remove the ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS motherboard and examine it from all sides. The color is dark, depending on the illumination and viewing angle, it seems to be almost black, then dark brown with red inscriptions and any decoration of red.

The board has a standard 24-pin power connector and one 8-pin additional food CPU. Four slots for DDR4 RAM - they are paired different colors, to simplify the installation of two RAM modules in dual channel mode... Two slots PCI Express 3.0 x16, for installing two video cards (the bottom slot works in x4 mode). Two PCI Express x1 slots, and two "good old" PCI slots. In addition, the board has two M.2 connectors where you can install either a special SSD drive, or through adapters PCI Express x1 connectors. Six SATA connectors- they all stand vertically (someone sees a disadvantage in this, someone on the contrary - a dignity). Cooling fans can be connected to three 4-pin connectors ...

Along the bottom of the board are the following connectors: a group of contacts for connecting buttons and indicators on the front side of the PC case, two groups of contacts USB3.1 and USB2.0, via pads or to the front panel computer case... You can also connect a COM port with an external connector. Then pins for connecting a microphone and headphones on the front panel, and four pins for connecting SPDIF.

Now let's quickly go over the chips and other elements on the ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS motherboard.

Chipset motherboard is Intel B250. It is covered with an aluminum radiator. We take it off. There is a bare crystal and it contacts the heatsink sole through some sticky rubbish ... Nearby is an Asmedia ASM1480 chip - a switch PCI bus Express.

The processor power circuits do not have any special cooling, in general, they do not need it. Although there are holes for installing a radiator on them ... In the power circuits, we see MOSFETs similar to microcircuits with markings RA12 and RA14 - these are ADP3412 and ADP3414. Solid Capacitors and Chokes in Square Cases ...

Supply chains random access memory and SATA drives... the same elements.

PWM controller Digi + VRM EPU ASP1401BT ... 4-pin connector additional cooling, for cpu cooler connector is white.

Sound - Realtek ALC887 chip - in other words, an audio codec ... not a bad standard solution.

Chip UTC 75232G - as the name implies, this microcircuit provides the operation of the COM-port, or RS-232. Nuvoton NCT5539D - motherboard monitoring microcircuit, I / O control, etc. - Multi I / O ... UTC U22085G - 5VSB to 3VSB converter

LAN - Realtek 8111H - network controller.

Nearby is something under a metal screen, it says LAN Guard - Asus explains that this is protection against lightning or power surges. Nuvoton 3941S-A fan speed control (near and a connector for its connection). AS258M - 3-STATE Quad 1 of 2 Line Data Selector / Multiplexers.

Asmedia ASM1083 is a PCI bus emulator.

Realtek RTD2166 is a digital-to-analog converter for connecting a monitor via VGA.

BIOS-UEFI uses a 25Q128A chip - flash memory ... Nearby is an unsigned pin header similar to the ones to which plugged in additional USB ports, and in the manual for the motherboard it is not marked in any way ...

M.2 connector and latch on PCI-Express slot X16, which shines ... the main connectors on the motherboard are signed ...

External connectors of the ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS motherboard: one universal PS / 2 - you can connect either a mouse or a keyboard to it. Nearby are two USB2.0 ports. Then VGA and DVI video connectors, then connector USB Type C, one more video output -HDMI, two USB2.0 and two USB3.1, RJ45 connector - network connector, three audio connectors.

The reverse side of the motherboard. Here is the Asus contact label, and metal plate strengthening processor socket- everything is as usual...

The ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS motherboard did not escape the fate of decorative backlights - there is a backlight curve in the lower left corner, and the latches on the video card slots are backlit. Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off this backlight.

In the second part of the article, we will describe the BIOS settings for this motherboard.

Mikhail Dmitrienko, 2017

Hello potential buyer Motherboard ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS(LGA1151, microATX).

With this review, I continue the series of build reviews universal computer for the office. I'll start, as usual, with the selection criteria and why the ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS motherboard. Since it was assumed that the operation of the assembled computer would be carried out by an ordinary office worker, when choosing, he was guided by the following parameters, in terms of importance:

1. Compatibility with the processor Intel series , that is, a choice of only two hundred line.

2. The presence of the M.2 connector, as planned SSD installation M.2 2280.

3. The presence of an analog video output D-Sub, this is due to the fact that the monitor to which the system unit will be connected is ancient and without DVI and HDMI.

4. Availability of 4 slots of DDR4 memory, so that in the future, if necessary, it would be possible to increase the amount of memory.

5. Price and brand. I got burned with a gigabyte once, the new system unit only worked for 1 day, then changed it under warranty. Therefore, all other things being equal, I give priority to ASUS.

During filtration, the cheapest suitable model turned out to be a B250-based motherboard. I will say right away I initially chose another ASUS model on the B250, which is a little simpler and cheaper by a thousand rubles, but so far I was picking up other components system unit this model disappeared from in stock status. I had to look and select again and as a result, my choice settled on Motherboard ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS (LGA1151, microATX) .

When we receive the goods, we see the following:

In general, nothing special. cardboard box in black and red tones, keeping the style directly from Motherboard ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS, it is also in black and red with red backlighting, but more on that later. We start unpacking and see the following:

Here, too, everything is standard on the left is a paper compartment with SATA connecting cables, and on the right is the motherboard itself in an antistatic bag. We take out everything to assess the configuration and this is what we see:

As we can see here the Spartan minimum, because the ASUS PRIME motherboard is only an initial series of motherboards and one can even say a budget series, since the price is around $ 100. And ASUS motherboards at this price have always been with a meager bundle, so in our case we have:

1. Motherboard ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS in the package;

2. Cheap tin plug on back panel computer cases;

3. A bag with two sets of screws for the M.2 connector, since there are 2 of them on the motherboard;

4. A disk that I did not even open, since Windows 10 itself required drivers installed. Well, if only for installing utilities from ASUS, you can view the disc.

5. A thin black booklet-instruction in English and two pieces of paper-instructions, where there is a text in Russian.

We take the motherboard out of the package and see that even in cheap motherboards beauty and elegance are inherent.

Since the motherboard ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUSLGA1151 is not a full-fledged ATX, but a microATX, it would be foolish to expect many different slots and connectors. But despite its stripped-down form factor, the motherboard has not so little and more than enough for office computer, namely:

4 memory slots for DDR4 2400 MHz or even 2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory; The maximum amount of memory that can be installed is 64 GB. The memory itself is two-channel, this is no longer surprising today, the main thing is to mount it correctly if you put a pair (after 1, as a hint, you need to put slots of the same color).

Expansion slots: one PCI-E slot 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (x16 mode, gray), one PCI-E 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) and one PCI-E 3.0 / 2.0 x1. Here microATX has affected in full.

Eight-channel audio on the Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High chipset Definition Audio CODEC;

Intel® Network Controller I219V, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller (s);

The back panel contains:

1 x PS / 2 (combined type, although it has always been)
Video outputs of standards 1 x DVI-D, 1 x D-Sub, 1 x HDMI
1 x LAN (RJ45) port (s) for network
1 x 5Gb / s port (s) USB Type-CTM (support 3A power output) - new standard and is not yet widely distributed.
3 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ((Blue)) Type-A and 2 x USB 2.0
6 x Audio jack (s) - sound.

Connectors on the board:

One USB 3.1 Gen 1 to 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 port (s) (19-pin) - exactly for USB 3 on front panel housing,
Two USB 2.0 connectors for 4 USB 2.0 ports

2 x M.2 Socket for 3 standard type SSD 2242/2260/2280,

1 x COM port - tribute to history more than useful,

For hard drives 6 x SATA 6Gb / s ports, and if the first M.2 slot has an SSD c SATA interface, then 1 SATA port become inactive on the board.

Three connectors for powering the fans: one for the CPU (4-pin) and two Chassis Fan (4-pin). They were surprised that they were not stingy and made all 4-pin connectors.

Motherboard power supply 24-pin EATX Power connector (s) and one 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector (s) for powering the CPU, here we were upset, since two 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector (s) are coming from the power supply, as a result, one is connected, and the second is not connected next to it dangles and the main thing is not to remove it, so they go in 1 braid.

One audio port (AAFP) for the front panel of the system unit.

One connector for standard system buttons, indicator lights and one connector S / PDIF out header (s).

There is a plug at the place where the processor is installed, which can be easily removed and an LGA1151 processor from Intel is mounted in its place (see the instructions in which corner the triangle should be on the processor). The ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS motherboard itself will be fixed to the case of the system unit with 6 screws.

If you do everything right, it will be like this:

with installed processor

Ultimately, a fully wired motherboard looks like this:

By the way, in my practice, for the first time I came across that only 1 side of the latches is bent at the memory slots, the other is rigidly fixed. Because of this, it was a bit unusual to insert memory strips (as usual, they must be lowered vertically into the slot, straight from the top without prying on the side into the non-folding part of the side). In general, apparently because of this non-standard solution ASUS, for the first time I set the bars slightly at a distortion, and the system did not boot until I removed and re-inserted the memory bars.

During operation, in addition to the standard red power supply indicator, the PCI-E latches and some of the lines in the PCI-E zone are illuminated in red on the board. Of course, if you do not have a transparent wall of the system unit, then you will not see all this illumination.

Summing up, I can say that the ASUS PRIME B250M-PLUS motherboard is a good option for an office computer with a processor, but if you have an opaque case wall, then it is better to take a model 1 thousand cheaper and not overpay for nonsense that you will not see.

We tried to make the description as good as possible, so that your choice was error-free and deliberate. we may not have exploited this product, but only touched it from all sides, and after you buy it, try it in operation, your review can make this world a better place, if your review is really useful, then we will publish it and give it to you you the opportunity next purchase we do it on the 2nd column.

ASUS PRIME PRIME B250M-C - Rich functionality for a small price

Potential buyer opinion
Advantages:
The only mainstream board on the market Intel processors 7th Gen Core with DisplayPort and full-featured M.2 connectors (supports SATA and PCI Express x4) and one PSI Express x16 port. The perfect solution for those who want to work with graphics, photos and videos in 2K and 4K resolution on integrated Intel graphics and use all the capabilities of SSD-drives.
Flaws:
Of. Asus website does not claim support for most processors Intel Core 7th generation I3, I5, I7. For ASUS comparisons PRIME B250M-A official supports all 7th generation. This misleads an unprepared hardware collector and scares away from choosing this board, despite the assurances of Nyx's editors about support for the 7th series. An urgent need to clarify on the Niksa website on this issue. For me personally, the question remains open? (used to trust official sources)

ASUS PRIME PRIME B250M-K - Excellent for the 7th generation

5 Volkov Andrey Alexandrovich 23-03-2017

Device Owner Assessment: ASUS PRIME PRIME B250M-K
Advantages:
I bought it for i3-7100 in NIKs. The percentage was determined immediately. Memory Kingston DDR4 8 GB / 2400 - at first it was identified at a frequency of 2133, after updating the BIOS without any problems switched to 2400. Dual-channel mode. I liked the BIOS settings very much. Russian fully understandable language. Convenient setting fan and case (both in terms of RWM and voltage, it is convenient if the fan is 3-pin). 6 SATA III ports and an M2 port are worthy for the price. Sufficient number of USB 3.0 ports (3.1) I was pleased with the built-in sound - better than I had (the previous motherboard MSI-ZH77AG41), crackling, hiss, extraneous noise no (I tested Pioneer 1000 on my ears, Microlab speakers) Also, very important point for lovers of video encoding: you can simultaneously turn on the built-in Intel graphics(up to 1 GB of RAM) and discrete card... According to reviews from 7 generations of Intel, this speeds up the video processing process. Included, it works.
Flaws:
- no RAID - software included, a lot of unnecessary. The description of the software is very, very abbreviated, so at first I had to put it, understand what it is, understand that almost everything is for $ and delete it. It is better to download the driver from the site right away. - 1 connector for a case fan
