iPad of the latest generation. iPad lineup

There have already been a huge number of iPad models released for quite some time, Apple has received a lot of well-deserved praise and criticism, including the lack of a pronounced difference between all tablets. There were only a handful of Air and Mini versions before the company introduced the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch Pro models.

Fortunately, the iPad hierarchy has become much simpler. The 12.9-inch Pro is the most expensive tablet, starting at Rs. and up, while its smaller cousin, the 9.7-inch Pro, starts at Rs. The new 9.7-inch iPad retails for Rs 25,000 and the best budget option is Rs 30,000 — a good price for the only small 7.9-inch iPad Mini 4.

Just because the new iPad lineup is smaller doesn't mean picking the right model is less of a challenge. What good is a 12-inch screen if you value portability above all else? Why pay more for a top-end graphics chip if you only occasionally play heavy games?

In an attempt to answer these questions and more, we've evaluated each iPad pragmatically, in an attempt to determine the best fit for any given use. This buying guide, in the truest sense of the word, will show all the advantages and disadvantages of each iPad, in understandable words. To say that this will lead to your absolute purchase is a joke - we have no such goal, but this guide should at least help you choose which Apple iPads to consider and what to avoid.

Budget iPad - iPad 9.7 (from 25,000 rubles)

The latest 9.7-inch iPad arrived in March and is one of the most affordable Apple products the company has ever offered. It's the cheapest option in the current iPad line after the iPad Mini 2 was discontinued.

It's a great tablet for watching movies, thanks to its 9.7-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The device has a fast A9 processor and a large battery that can keep the tablet running for up to 10 hours on a single charge. You'll also find an 8MP rear camera, a 1.2MP front camera, dual speakers, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Apple Pay support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

With the announcement of the new iPad, Apple also announced that the iPad Air 2 will be discontinued. In fact, the difference between the two tablets is small. The new iPad is 7.5mm thicker than the svelte, 6.1mm Air 2. The new model has a faster processor than its sibling, and is slightly heavier, but with a bigger battery. The iPad 9.7 lacks the processing power for the 12-megapixel camera found on the 9.7-inch Pro versions.

What does this mean in practical terms? If you don't need superior power, play the latest games, or run extremely demanding apps, the new Apple iPad will do just fine. It fits comfortably in the hand and is ideal for everyday content consumption - reading, watching movies, casual games, etc. But for serious work, you should look at the Pro line.

It's hard to find a better iPad for the money. If budget is a major factor, this tablet is the obvious choice.

Powerful and compact iPad - iPad Mini 4 (from 30,000 rubles)

If you're looking for power in a small form factor, the iPad Mini 4 has it for you. Evolving from the iPad Mini 3, it takes into account all the shortcomings of its predecessor and even more: it has the same A8 processor as in the iPhone 6, 8-megapixel rear camera, fast Wi-Fi (802.11ac), ID scanner, thinner (6.1 mm) and lightweight (299 g) aluminum body.

The tablet takes the design from the iPad Mini 3, has the same battery life (10 hours), and the same screen resolution (2,048 x 1536 pixels).

The iPad Mini 4 supports all the multitasking features of iOS 9's and is by far the most compelling device, allowing you to organize and interact with two apps at the same time. You can copy and paste text from the nearby Wikipedia window into a Word document, or watch a video while replying to an email. (Multiple windows on a small screen can be difficult to maneuver, which goes without saying).

The iPad Mini 4 has an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with an improved aperture compared to the iPad Mini 3, the A8 chip - which also powers the Apple TV - is capable of handling almost any graphics-intensive game.

All in all, the iPad Mini 4 can multitask like a pro, take great pictures, and play the latest games. If these prospects are exciting, go for it - buy it. But if they don't and you want the same features in a bigger package, consider buying an iPad off the top shelf.

Elephant in the room - iPad Pro 12.9 (from 59,000 rubles)

The iPad Pro is Apple's largest tablet at 12.9 inches. It is thick and hefty, about 6.9mm thick and weighs about 700g.

The device justifies the performance and functionality, our impressions support these claims. The iPad Pro 12.9's display is a whopping 2,732 x 2,048 pixels, more than any iPad, and is powered by an A9X processor, a beefed-up version of the A9, paired with 4GB of RAM.

The tablet is well-endowed on the outside, with massive four speakers, an ID touch sensor, an 8-megapixel camera, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with LTE connectivity. It's a multi-tasking monster.

Powerful hardware are just some of the best in Pro. The real value is in the supposedly offered accessories. There's the Smart Keyboard with attached QWERTY keys, and the much more interesting Apple iPad stylus.

This is Apple's first foray with a stylus, and the company touted its superiority over competing models in the area of pressure sensitivity (it can distinguish between hard and light pressures) - the battery lasts up to 12 hours.

The Pro version may come with improved performance as well as additional services such as dual stereo speakers and a Touch ID scanner. But the device is not for everyone, Pro is the most expensive iPad with a base price of 59,000 rubles. Its huge screen is as inevitably awkward as it is unwieldy - it will be difficult to use it on the subway or plane. The tools and performance really make it the best, but Apple's smart keyboard and stylus will have to fork out extra.

The big Apple Pro is built for a very specific market: businesses and enterprise users who might otherwise be influenced by equivalent PCs like Microsoft's Surface. That's not to say its features don't appeal to the average consumer, but if you're not prepared to put up with the extra-large 12.9-inch size, it's worth considering a more portable option.

Best of all - iPad Pro 9.7 (from 45,000 rubles)

Perhaps Apple has realized that giant tablets really aren't for the vast majority of people. The smaller version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, will sweetly amaze you. It is largely identical, although smaller than its predecessor. The 9.7-inch model gets the same A9X processor as its big brother, along with the same array of multiple speakers and a 2048 x 1536 Retina display.

The tablet is compatible with many, if not all, 12.9-inch accessories, including the Apple Pen and Smart Keyboard.

The small iPad Pro uses only half the 2GB RAM of its counterpart, but features better cameras in the form of a 12-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front. In general, the differences are minor. From an empirical standpoint, you get the same technology from last year's iPad Pro in a lighter package.

For most people, there is no danger. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has not only better portability, but also better processing capabilities, plus the added benefit of being compatible with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro accessories. I am glad that the tablet has slightly risen in price, in comparison with the iPad 2 Air.

Outcome

There is no, as we said at the beginning, a perfect iPad. The new iPad 9.7 lacks a top processor; The iPad Mini 4 is the only compact choice; and the 12-inch iPad Pro is a little big. But, all iPad tablets are better suited for most users than others.

Want a cheap, relatively uncompromising iPad? The standard 9.7-inch iPad is a great option. Do you want a top line that can fit in your portfolio? Choose the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Ultimately, when it comes time to make a purchasing decision, we always reserve some practical time for ourselves. Whether you buy an iPad at your local M. Video or Apple Store, you'll always get a device that's strong all around. Apple tablets aren't the cheapest investment, so weigh your options carefully.

Or buy your iPad and enjoy.

All of a sudden, Tim Cook released a sequel to the iPhone SE, only now it's an iPad. And it costs even less.

To be honest, when Apple announced this tablet, I didn't believe it at all. I thought it was a duck, I checked it on the official website.

In the world of golden MacBooks and iPhones for 80 thousand rubles. just the thought of new iPad for 25 thousand rubles. seems like a fantasy. It's like someone hacked them. Even the iPad mini, traditionally the cheapest of their tablets, cost one and a half times more. Took and just broke the old rules about knee.

I currently have a 9.7-inch iPad from 2017 in my hands. 32 GB entry model, space black, RUB 24,990 Sales in Russia actually began last week, and anyone can pick up the device at the nearest official Apple hardware store.

We also took. Tried to figure out who special Do you need a tablet and why? And they also tried to talk themselves out of buying the same - but in vain. +2 orders from the editors, infection Tim Cook.

In all the photos, we compare the 2017 iPad and the first generation Air. Thanks to Mick Sid for the photos.

Who needs an iPad like this?

This iPad 9.7 2017 seems to have flown from a parallel universe. In it, Apple does business instead of bells and whistles and marketing innovations, and its products do not have a large markup for brand, pop and quality.

As an Apple fan, the new tablet is genuinely surprising to me. Minimum price, but almost maximum performance - they usually say this about some Xiaomi, but definitely not about Apple. It’s not in the style of the Cupertinos to bend a lot in price or make “middle peasants”.

And then bam, almost out top device at half price from the previous model.

Roughly speaking, this tablet is needed by everyone who:

  • does not have an iPad newer than the iPad Air 2
  • doesn't have any iPad at all
  • looking for the best new tablet under 30,000 rubles
  • looking for a gift for relatives, friends, etc.
  • wants to take a tablet for home, internet, movies.

If at least one point above applies to you, then you can absolutely safely, without reading anything further, buy iPad 2017 for 24,990 rubles.

That's right, with a run into the ravine. Because there is not a single such device on the Russian market at all, and used models of 2013-14 cost even expensive!

Wait, why did Apple suddenly release such an iPad?

Alas, the tablet market is going through hard times. Almost everyone who wanted to buy a tablet has already done so. And there is no point in changing it to a new one: even 5-year-old models have enough performance for basic tasks like video.

Tablets 2012-2014 were too good and fed up the consumer.

Now no one knows how to get you to buy another one. And where there is no prospect of good sales, there are no new developments. As a result, tablets are diligently made only by Apple, for which this is a matter of reputation. And the rest rivet "pills" from anything.

Since Apple has almost monopolized the market, it will also have to save it. Psychology suggested the way out. Tablet owners are extremely practical, not interested in upgrading, and not amenable to marketing. Therefore, it remains to lure them exclusively benefit.

So hold on, sign:

Design left almost unchanged

Since the iPad Air that came out in 2013, Apple has effectively used the same case design with minimal changes. There is nothing new here, with iPhones a similar story - we have been looking at the “six” for three years.

Think before you shout that Apple is not a cake. Alas, you are wrong here. Ergonomics and design of the iPad is so run-in and time-tested, as far as the poor iPhone 6 even dreamed of.

In the field of smartphones, the vector of development changes every year, there is a vigorous movement forward and regular surprises. And tablets have long found a golden mean and actually stopped at it. In the minds of 99.99% of people, the "tablet" looks exactly the same as the iPad Air 4 years ago.

In fact, the iPad is tablet impersonation. If so, why change anything?

The new model has visual differences from the first generation Air, but they are minimal. For example, there is no screen orientation lock lever, and there is more space between the volume buttons. Gadgets also have different speaker grilles, and the new model has them visually simpler. Well, TouchID instead of the usual button.

By the way, the headphone jack there is. It is strange that we are forced to rejoice in this in 2017.

The first notable moment is the thickness of the iPad 2017

My last tablet was an iPad mini 4, paper thin. Therefore, the first thing I notice when I take a new iPad out of the box is its thickness and weight: 7.5 mm and 469 grams, respectively. It's not a brick, but already half a kilo of iron.

How can you not remember that the numbers are the same as the Air 1 generation. Both in 2017 seem unaccustomed to being thick and heavy. Of course, this is not so, we are simply spoiled by progress, we are used to constant breakthroughs in this area. And here, as it were, a regression.

However! After 3 minutes, I completely forgot about this fact, I just adapted to these parameters, as any normal person should. The weight is evenly distributed, and the thickness of the case actually makes it easier to support the tablet with one hand around a corner.

I can say for sure that you will not experience any discomfort when using the device on weight for a couple of hours. And no one really needs it anymore. If anything, you can put it on the table, buy a case-stand, take the same Smart Cover.

The shape, dimensions of the device make it ideal for home, just a reference for the money. And plus 100 grams absolutely do not care.

At the same time, I would not give such an iPad to children under 12 for personal use - that is, to take with them to school and so on. For them, it is still large and heavy, you will have to use it clumsily, there is a great chance to break it.

Cupertino took the same size and hardware layout as the Air 1, eschewing innovation in terms of ergonomics and bodywork. And all of a sudden it turned out really well. The old case is the first reason why the new iPad costs 25,000 rubles.

The second point is the screen. expected worse

I take it by the virtual scruff of the neck and throw my gadget-manic habits overboard. And together with them I sweep away the groans of the great connoisseurs of progress about the “degraded screen”.

Because the screen is perfect. Not even like that in perfect order.

Yes he has air layer. Let me explain for normal people: the glass and the display are separate parts, and there is a small air gap between them. Visually, the display seems to be recessed inside the case.

It just doesn't affect usability at all. You just know that it is there, at first you notice a couple of times, then you forget. Everything. I only remember when I hit the screen hard with my finger and hear a dull pop, typical for this type of display.

Beneath all these layers is a Retina screen with a resolution of 2048×1536, which is excellent live, and no photos will convey this. contrasting colors, brightness super high(it was even improved), viewing angles are maximum without changes in colors.

Compared to the Air 2, you will notice slightly less contrast and black saturation, but the difference is not significant in reality. At the level of disputes, which is better: pepsi or cola.

I was skeptical, but after 4 days of testing I am frankly pleased with this display. And this is me, a lover of top gadgets, who ran all over Moscow in search of the iPhone 7 Plus. At least take a magnifying glass and make it find cons - I will find it only with a stretch.

Well, for example, here is a subjective minus. My copy warm color scheme- that the white color is slightly yellowish. Due to this, all other colors seem saturated and especially contrasting. This is a factory calibration feature and can be changed in Settings.

Still, I'm used to cold shades and can't help myself. But many people like the warm range more.

I also noticed on the street no anti-reflective coating(dark purple). It is because of this that Apple decided to increase the maximum brightness of the screen - and, to be honest, the result chic. The device can be used in bright sunlight, it almost interrupts it with its own!

Otherwise, there are no complaints.

Display - the hardest five, which I can only put on a device for 25,000 rubles. For the price and performance, I'm willing to put up with air gaps and less contrast than on the Pro or the aging Air 2.

Not even like that already I forgot that there is a layer of air, I remind myself of this.

The third point is that it works very fast

iPad Air 2 over the past 3 years tired. Sorry, owners, but this is a fact.

The tablet does not slow down so far, but it does not “fly” either. With each new firmware, the maximum number of open tabs in Safari is reduced before they are reloaded. The programs themselves are also taking longer to open. The device has about a year left before the really unpleasant brakes begin.

Against the background of Air 2 and even more so Air 1, the new iPad is simply beautiful.

Applications open very quickly. Toys like Asphalt 8 fly without brakes. In programs, smooth scrolling without lags.

All this merit is equally the A9 processor and increased RAM. Yes, on the 2017 iPad 2 GB RAM and you can see it right away. The first ten running applications are almost never unloaded from the RAM, which allows you to instantly switch between them with swipes without reloading the data.

Big RAM keeps this iPad charged for a cloudless future and many more years of firmware updates. Just so you understand, the iPad Pro 9.7 also has 2 GB of RAM. Only "pro" is one and a half times more expensive.

By the way, the new iPad works for a very long time - real 10 hours and even more from one charge.

The main thing is not to quibble. This is the iPad for the people

  1. The 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro displays are rounded rectangles. The display diagonal is measured without rounding and is 12.9 inches for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and 11 inches for the 11-inch iPad Pro. The actual viewing area is smaller.
  2. The amount of available space is less than stated and depends on various factors. The default configuration (including iOS and pre-installed apps) is approximately 10 to 12 GB, depending on the device model and settings. Pre-installed applications take up about 4 GB; they can be deleted and reloaded. Cellular plan sold separately.
  3. Size and weight may vary depending on device configuration and manufacturing process.
  4. Both users must have a FaceTime-enabled device and be connected to a Wi-Fi network to use FaceTime. Availability of FaceTime over cellular is subject to carrier conditions; data charges may apply.
  5. Data plan required. Gigabit Class LTE, 4G LTE Advanced, and 4G LTE networks are not available in all regions or with all carriers. Speed is based on theoretical throughput and may vary depending on local conditions. For details on LTE network support, contact your carrier or visit the page.
  6. Cellular plan sold separately. The model you purchase is configured for a specific cellular network technology. Contact your carrier for information on cellular plan availability and compatibility.
  7. Not all carriers support Apple SIM and eSIM cards. For more information, contact your carrier. Not available in China. eSIM is supported on iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation). Apple SIM technology is supported on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation or later), iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 or later.
  8. Battery life may vary depending on settings and how you use your device. More details on the page

Today, October 30, there was an Apple presentation that I liked much more than a few previous ones. First, I very satisfied the release of the updated Mac Mini, and secondly, the best iPad has come out at the moment! In my opinion, this model is in some ways even a breakthrough and key in the history of the brand… Why? Let's take a closer look at it.

iPad now has a completely new design. Please note that the bezels around the screen have become noticeably smaller. To my delight, all the key elements like the camera are hidden on this frame. No terrible eyebrow that spoils many modern smartphones ... Also, the iPad has become 1 mm thinner and the design of the side faces has become more direct and strict.

Two iPad Pro models have been redesigned: regular and large. Now they can be distinguished as iPad Pro 11 inches and iPad Pro 12.9 inches. Please note that the screen has grown only in the first model - before it was 10.5. The display is updated and is called Liquid Retina. This is the display in the new iPhone Xr. It is considered not the most top-end display, because the iPhone Xs has Super Retina.

The resolution of the iPad Pro 11-inch is different (a headache for app developers) than the iPad Pro 10.5, but the pixel density is the same.

Since the iPad Pro no longer has a Home button, users will have to get used to the new gestures that iPhone X, Xs, and Xr owners are already used to.

Also in the iPad Pro added face recognition technology - Face ID, which works in any position of the iPad. Apple emphasizes that it is their technology that is most secure. Unlike competitors' solutions. Face ID lets you unlock your iPad or make a purchase online...

The processor in the new iPad Pro is A12X Bionic (only A12 in iPhone Xs for reference). This processor more powerful than the processors in most laptops presented on the market. A12X 2 times more powerful than the processors in the previous generation iPad Pro!

By the way, Apple at its conferences pays great attention to showing the capabilities of the iPad. For some, this is “filling up the airtime,” but if you look closely, the company is stubbornly promoting the idea to the masses that the iPad could well replace a work laptop. This time they showed the capabilities of Adobe Photoshop CC, which will be released for the iPad in 2019.

The best iPad - the best updated stylus! It recognizes touch: you can change the drawing tools in programs by touching the area at the bottom.

To pair with an iPad, you need to magnetize your Apple Pencil. Moreover, at this moment the stylus is charging ...

Apple also took care of the release of the new Smart Keyboard Folio.

The new iPad Pros no longer have lightning. From now on, USB Type C is the standard for charging and syncing. Through this port, you can connect a camera or monitor to the iPad Pro. USB-C also allows you to charge a connected phone through a wire.

In the new iPad Pro, the front camera does not shine with special characteristics: it is suitable for selfies, video communication. It's all good old 7 megapixels. But the Portrait mode, portrait lighting, as well as Animoji and Memoji, previously available only in the iPhone X, etc., were added to the functionality.

The rear camera has 12 megapixels and allows you to take cool pictures and record videos in 4K. BUT! Exactly the same camera is in the old iPad Pro 10.5, so there should not be any revelations when you first meet the camera.

You can also find a strange moment on the Apple website: optical image stabilization has disappeared somewhere from the camera. :(There was also a six-lens lens, but it became a five-lens one. I'm not a professional in photography, but apparently the camera has become slightly worse.

And now attention! Let it be expensive, but in the new iPad Pro there is a variation of the 1 Terabyte model!

In terms of communication modules, the three most important modules have been improved:

  • Now WiFi simultaneously can support two bands 2.4 and 5GHz.
  • The LTE module is now referred to as Gigabit Class LTE (29 bands).
  • Bluetooth is now version 5.0 instead of 4.2.

The new iPad Pros have support for eSim (an electronic SIM card built into the device). Appeared for the first time in the iPhone XS. Allows you to program it to work with different operators. How is this different from Apple Sim technology? The fact that Apple Sim is just a SIM card that is not tied to any operator, but eSim is a built-in small module.
