iPhone or Samsung - which is better? Review of models of all generations. Which is better Samsung or iPhone? Let's figure it out together! Comparison of iPhone 6s and Samsung

Not only to catch up, but also to surpass, to present new, highly desirable, unique and commercially attractive solutions, setting a new bar for quality and functionality. There is no end in sight to this race between Apple and Samsung smartphones, and recently the Korean company did. How weighty?

Construction and design

It is reckless to change the appearance of a product if it itself has become a calling card - neither Apple nor Samsung have yet accumulated enough technological innovations, the introduction of which would justify such a step. The exterior of the Galaxy S7 model is formed by traditional polished metal and glass; neither the shape nor the location of the physical buttons has changed. Regarding the dimensions, the Korean flagship turned out to be thicker not only than its predecessor Galaxy S6, but also the Apple device, 7.7 mm versus 7.3 mm for the iPhone 6s. The commitment to the flat Home button saves the day; due to this, the Samsung flagship looks smaller and less flattened than its competitor, although it is equipped with a larger display (4.7 inches for the iPhone 6s and 5.1 inches for the Galaxy S7).

On the surface of the Korean smartphone there are a traditional USB port and a 3.5 audio input, holes covered with nothing, while the Samsung Galaxy S7 is sealed, but the iPhone 6s is not.

Now let’s read the test in small letters on the official website of the manufacturer, which reads: immersion in water to a depth of 1.5 m for up to 30 minutes. This is not exactly what the IP68 protection standard implies, compliance with which is declared, but there is no such information on the Cupertino portal page.

There is also no data on the strength characteristics of the gadget, but that won’t be the point – like the iPhone 6s, the brand new Galaxy S7 will have to go through an endless cycle of executions as soon as it falls into the hands of bloggers.

In addition, it is worth noting that the Galaxy S7 has official support for wireless charging (sold separately), as well as the ability to quickly charge. The manufacturer claims that in 10 minutes, new smartphones will receive the amount of charge required for battery life of up to 4 hours.

Display

In a head-to-head spec comparison, the iPhone 6s stands no chance of winning; Samsung's new flagship beats it in every key area. Although the average user’s imperfect vision may not be able to, his imagination will help him distinguish the difference between 577 ppi for the Galaxy S7 and only 326 ppi for its Apple counterpart.

The superiority in the size of the screen space, as well as the maximum resolution, is completely obvious - this is 1334x750 for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s versus 2560x1440 for the 5.1-inch Samsung flagship. Here is a flag in the hands of interface designers and game makers who could find a worthy use for this wealth.

Another sign of progress in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the implementation of the “Always On Display” concept, an always active screen. From the point of view of engineers, instantly unlocking the system in order to just check notifications about new likes or find out what time it is is akin to the command “Get to the gun!” for the electronic organism exhausted by insomnia.

Users unconsciously sneezed at strict recommendations - it was easier to make sure that the required information was constantly displayed on the display. And nothing more, so the load on the batteries should decrease, including because the smartphone will remain in passive mode for much longer.

The iPhone 6s doesn't have anything like this yet, officially. And it is unknown whether it will appear.

Specifications

The 4 GB of RAM of the Korean device should give it a natural head start over its American competitor with its modest 2 gigabytes of RAM. However, the heart of the iPhone 6s is the latest offspring of the semi-legendary A family of chips, on the evolution of which Apple is spending enormous amounts of money. Plus M9 motion coprocessor. Inside the Samsung Galaxy S7 there is also a self-produced processor, either a 4-core Snapdragon 820 or an 8-core Exynos, depending on the configuration and sales region.

The Koreans remain faithful to the international tradition - if the user wants, he will either buy additional space in the cloud or use the micro-SD card slot.

And the starting conditions, 32 or 64 GB of integrated memory for the Galaxy S7, are clearly preferable to Apple’s policy. Owners of the iPhone 6s are forced to either live on 16 gigabytes (of which less than 11 GB will actually be available) or pay. On average, this is noticeably more expensive than buying a memory card, and a Korean gadget can have up to 200 GB in addition to the main one.

Camera Features

It is unknown whether Samsung takes seriously rumors about the appearance of a camera in the next generation of iPhone instead of one massive one. But no radical innovations in this regard were found in the Galaxy S7 model, except for the non-standard BRITECELL flash module.

The front modules are 5 megapixels, the main cameras are 12 megapixels, but the size of a single pixel of the Korean device is larger, 1.44 microns versus 1.22 microns for the Apple gadget. And this is the key to better shooting quality in low light conditions, which is indirectly confirmed by the first practical experiments. It also has an effect that the iPhone’s main camera aperture is f2.2, while its opponent’s is f1.7.

Samsung provided its brainchild with a decent dowry in the form of different shooting modes, mostly of an entertainment nature. This includes an animated panorama, hyperlapse, and taking photos broken down by frame and then selecting the best one. Plus Dual Pixel technology and optimized autofocus speed. However, it is worth noting that a user who has gone through the thorns of settings will be able to take advantage of this wealth, which unfavorably distinguishes the Galaxy S7 from the iPhone 6s with its extreme automation and simplification of all processes by default.

Comparison of user interfaces

Being a direct successor to the Galaxy family, the S7 model is distinguished by a varied, rich interface - there is no talk of any “pure Android” (the proprietary TouchWiz user interface shell is used). As if in contrast to iOS 9, by default there are a lot of widgets and add-ons that are far from useless, but require some attention from the user. Who will ultimately win, the owner of the iPhone 6s or the new Korean flagship, is a purely subjective question. But the boundaries are clearly defined.

Meet the Vulkan API, a powerful toolkit for turning your smartphone into a mobile gaming console. Of course, everything depends to a large extent on the application developers for whom it is intended, so it is worth considering the innovation as a response to Apple's Metal technology. In the meantime, they are working tirelessly, gamers can use the new add-on for photo and video recording of their records. With the Samsung Galaxy S7 in your hands, you can broadcast games, disable certain buttons to avoid confusion, set up notifications so that they do not distract from the process, and much more.

Summarizing

Both smartphones belong to the top models in their class, are equipped with the best mobile processors at the moment, carry suitable amounts of memory and richly equipped camera modules on board. The hardware is cleverly squeezed into nice cases of modest dimensions, whose displays equally delight the eye with a colorful picture. Perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S7, with its 3,000 mAh battery and Always On Display feature, will be able to do this longer than the iPhone 6s (1,715 mAh). And the actual screen parameters of the Korean flagship are noticeably higher - a silent reproach to the Cupertino people who gave the world Retina displays.

Samsung is aggressively promoting the concept of themed software add-ons, expanding its range of services. This is no worse or better than the laconic cleanliness of iOS, but together with new pro-gamer technologies it creates some risk of user outflow from the Apple eco-environment. Coupled with the attractive design and pricing policy, the iPhone 6s receives a most dangerous competitor - users dissatisfied with the Apple smartphone can change the platform without fear of losing something significant.

Many have compared the Samsung Galaxy S6 with the iPhone 6, but since the latter is inferior in technical characteristics, according to most users, such a comparison is not entirely correct. By the time the Samsung smartphone was released, the iPhone 6 had already been on sale for more than six months and had become technically outdated.

Now we will make a similar comparison between the iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy S6, which appeared on the market about a year after the release of the regular “six”. Let's find out what differences there are between them and what you should pay attention to first.

Design

Nowadays, a smartphone is an indicator of status and one of the main accessories. The average person does not care about the technical characteristics of the device, architectural features, etc. Therefore, design is one of the main criteria that everyone focuses on. Next, we will look at the appearance of each of the flagships described above and compare it with previous devices from these companies.

Design of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

This time Samsung tried hard to ensure that their new flagship matches its price with its appearance and is in no way inferior to its closest competitors. The front of the regular S6 looks familiar, with a design strongly reminiscent of previous models in this line of smartphones, and the S5 in particular. But the Edge version with a curved display is unlike anything Samsung has previously created.

This flagship has a Quad HD screen with a diagonal of 5.1 inches and a resolution of 2560x1440, but we will not go into its technical features. It is enough to know that this is an excellent solution that fully justifies its cost.

Innovations include a shiny metal edging around the edge of the device, as well as a back panel, this time made of glass, instead of cheap plastic in older models.

Design of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

The new iPhone 6c looks the same as the regular “six”. Apple, as always, worked on the quality of materials, making a one-piece case from 7000-gauge aluminum, making the gadget the most shock-resistant on the market. Another innovation was the color of the gadgets, called Rose Gold, which immediately gained popularity among the fairer sex.

The iPhone's Retina HD screen is in no way inferior to its competitors' solutions. It has a resolution of 1334x749 and a pixel density of 326 PPI. It also supports new 3D Touch technology, which senses pressure. This innovative feature introduces a completely new level of interaction with the gadget.

The glass from which the touchscreen is made is created using a new dual ion exchange technology, which Apple claims makes their screen the most durable on the market.

Design verdict

It is difficult to clearly decide which of these devices deserves the title of the most attractive in terms of design. It all depends on your personal preferences, but we can say for sure that these flagships are the most beautiful devices on the mobile gadgets market at the moment.

Comparing the sizes of these devices, we see that the offer from Samung is slightly larger than its competitor.

Specifications

Next, we will try to compare the technical characteristics of these devices in as much detail as possible, explain the difference between them and what they affect. As a result, you will have all the necessary information to decide what to choose.

Processor and RAM

iPhone 6s uses an A9 processor and 2GB of RAM, which together gives excellent performance.

The Galaxy S6 uses a processor from Samsung, Exynos 7, built using Cortex A53 and A57.

Despite the fact that the device’s processor in terms of technical characteristics should be inferior to the Samsung solution. According to the results of benchmark tests, it outperforms its competitor by a factor of two. But their multi-core results are identical.

Camera

Both devices are equipped with advanced and modern cameras. The Galaxy comes with a 16 megapixel camera that supports 4K video, but the iPhone has only 12 megapixels.

Samsung's camera sensor is more sensitive, giving it an advantage when shooting in low-light conditions. Their camera also supports OIS optical stabilization technology, which is only available on the iPhone 6s Plus and not on the regular 6s.

Historically, Apple smartphones have the highest quality cameras; this has often served as the main criterion when choosing their technology. Recently, the situation has changed a lot, the developers of Android devices have come to their senses and now their solutions are becoming the best of everything on the market.

One of the features that the iPhone 6s is focusing on is Live Photos, which is quite an interesting thing. Many people believe that no one needs something like this and is a cunning marketing ploy.

I absolutely disagree with this opinion, since for people with small children this function has become almost indispensable. And no one will be surprised if Samsung, imitating its competitors, also introduces this feature into its devices.

This is all that can be discussed when comparing cameras. In my opinion, Galaxy has an advantage here. Why? Due to the sensitive sensor and better photo resolution.

Battery

One of the most important criteria that you need to focus on when choosing a smartphone is its operating time, as well as the battery charging speed. Galaxy and iPhone are equipped with batteries of 2550 and 1715 milliamp hours, respectively. The comparison results are clearly not in favor of the Apple device, but judging by the Galaxy’s rather negative reviews, users cannot squeeze more than three hours of work out of their smartphone when watching movies and making video calls.

One of the advantages is wireless charging. This is a relatively new technology that greatly simplifies the use of a smartphone and relieves its owner from the need to store extra wires and chargers.

Prices

At the start of sales, the Galaxy C6 cost $672, but enough time has passed since then. Having waited until the price drops to $576 in the configuration with 32 gigabytes of memory, we can confidently say that the device is worth the money. The iPhone costs a little more; the minimum price for the version with 16 gigabytes of memory costs $649. Accordingly, the offer from Samsung is more profitable.

Briefly about each of the key advantages of these devices

This time, the iPhone distinguished itself with good performance indicators and innovative 3D Touch technology, which was practically unnoticed by software developers for iOS. Although I am more than sure that this is just a temporary phenomenon and many have not yet realized what potential this seemingly simple opportunity contains.

On the other hand, Android is complex and has greater potential for various flashings, installations of new shells and hidden system capabilities, which gives enormous scope for technically advanced users.

The new Galaxy boasts a more advanced camera and no less innovative technologies than 3D Touch - wireless charging, as well as fast charging. These features in the compartment allow you to charge your smartphone up to 100% in just 100 minutes. An iPhone will have to spend more than 180 minutes on this.

Conclusion

I hope this article was useful to you in deciding what to choose: iPhone 6s vs Samsung S6. I tried to make an unbiased review and not bias against Glaxy due to my opinion, since I still find it less interesting. Express your opinion in the comments under this post, perhaps you found some differences here from your opinion, share the article on social networks. See you on the pages of the site!

Introduction

It has become a good tradition to compare products of the same type, which not only perform in the same class, but borrow a lot from each other, and as a result, are perceived at the same level. In a detailed review-comparison, I would like to dwell on both the little things and the basic things, in order to move from the specific to the general, what each of these phones can provide. I won't just focus on technical specifications, which are useless in isolation from use cases, but on what and how you can do on these phones. What benefits do you get from working with them?

If you know that the iPhone is the best phone or the Galaxy is superior to the iPhone, then close the page and save your nerves. Fans of this or that device should definitely not read a balanced text, where all the capabilities of the devices are discussed with examples and everything is illustrated with detailed calculations. Having made this disclaimer, let's proceed to consider the devices.

Important addition. Everywhere I look at the EDGE model, but other than the curved screen and price, it is no different from the Galaxy S6, so you can safely extend all the reasoning to this device. In the conclusions we will consider it from the point of view of the price/quality ratio, but the EDGE model will always appear in the text as the closest in positioning to the iPhone 6s.

Case dimensions, weight, materials and design

Discussing other people's tastes is a thankless task. Some people like one thing, some like another, so let's leave the design aside and focus on the quality of execution and the practical implications of this.

Samsung switched to 7000 series aluminum alloy; the same material was later used in the iPhone 6s. Interestingly, with comparable body sizes, the iPhone weighs 143 grams versus 132 grams for the EDGE. But the sizes differ as follows:

  • iPhone 6s - 138.3x67.1x7.1 mm
  • Galaxy S6 EDGE - 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0 mm

Both devices feel good in the hand; at first the EDGE has a rounded edge, but you quickly get used to it. I often hear that these devices are slippery, but I have never had such problems. For those who don't like the side edge of the EDGE, you can look at the regular S6. It feels as close as possible in the hand to the same iPhone, there are no differences.

Users of the previous iPhone 6 often say that the 6s has become heavier and this is noticeable in the hand. It's true, the center of gravity is located so that the phone is perceived as weighty, this is a subjective impression, in grams the differences are not so huge.

The back cover on the EDGE is covered with glass, the metallic color plays in the sun, and fingerprints are not visible on it (only in certain lighting). The glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 4, it is resistant to falls and does not break even when dropped onto the asphalt from a height of one and a half meters, although the question here is your luck; you can break the glass from ten centimeters.

The iPhone 6s uses a metal back with inserts for antennas, this design looks different, there is no metallic reflection effect, and here we again enter the territory of what and who likes it more. A matter of taste. From a household point of view, both devices have exactly the same strength and resistance to external influences.

Now let's move on to the front side of the devices, namely the glass that covers the display. Samsung uses Corning Gorilla Glass 4, this is the latest generation of Corning design that is extremely durable, drop resistant and also scratch resistant. Many people perceive scratch resistance as a statement that there can be no scratches at all and the phone can be safely carried with keys. Unfortunately, this is not the case; no one is immune from minor scratches. Over the course of several months of daily use, they appeared on my phone, and this is absolutely normal.

The iPhone 6s has mineral, tempered glass. I often read on various resources that glass from Corning is also installed here, but there is simply no evidence of this. It is not included in the list of products on the Apple manufacturer's website; you can find the list itself.

Another point is that the glass behaves exactly the same as on the iPhone 6; it is less resistant to scratches, for example, in my pocket without keys I got such a long scratch from the second phone. No one scratched the phone on purpose.

It is also known that the mineral glass on the iPhone does not withstand falls even from a small height; its strength is much inferior to that of Gorilla Glass. The main problem with an iPhone when dropped is a broken screen; in EDGE from the same height it often gets by without any damage at all. Unfortunately, Apple cannot access Corning technologies, since the company is co-owned by Samsung. The result is slightly worse performance of the device in everyday use. Screen replacements are the most expensive operation for any phone, so be careful with them. On the other hand, no one thinks that it is his phone that will fall and break.

In this video you can see how the 6s screen usually breaks when dropped from a small height, everything is quite revealing. Let me remind you that such videos are always a game of probability; you can break your phone even if you hit the carpet. Another thing is that the iPhone 6/6s is guaranteed to break when dropped, and this is already a proven fact, but EDGE/S6, on the contrary, is more difficult to break.

In terms of case materials, there is almost complete parity between these devices; the difference is that the iPhone 6s is a little more fragile due to mineral glass. But otherwise everything is the same. Just as the ergonomics of the devices are comparable, the EDGE gains in screen diagonal with almost the same size and less weight.

I love both devices, they have no compromise in terms of materials, they are the best you can find on the market today.

The fingerprint is implemented in the same way in these models, it reacts to touch, and does not work on a wet surface. The unlocking speed is approximately the same, there are no differences in everyday life.

Screen comparison - 4.7 inches vs 5.1 inches

Let's take a look at the table that shows the characteristics of the screens and compare them on paper.

Samsung is consistently improving its own screens, reducing their power consumption and making them better in all aspects of operation. The company is a technology leader in this area. Even a comparison of the characteristics on paper shows that the screen resolution and its diagonal are larger, the backlight brightness is higher, which allows you to read the screen even in bright sunlight or see the picture in the viewfinder as it will later be displayed in the gallery after you take a photo. Apple does not have these technologies, and the company has no place to purchase them. The difference between devices in this aspect is huge; it can be safely described as a difference of several generations, read, years. This situation has been going on for a couple of years now, in different company products, and Apple cannot close the gap in any way.

In everyday use, unless you compare screens directly, you will most likely be satisfied with both the first and second devices. Moreover, I’ll say a seditious thought - if you are switching to these devices from models of previous seasons, then the improvement in screen quality will become noticeable in any case. But if you still decide to compare them directly and choose which is better, then you should remember several serious differences. The EDGE, as well as all devices with SuperAMOLED, has a setting for improving brightness depending on conditions (by conditions we mean both external lighting and the content you are watching). For example, in the browser, when viewing pages, the white color on the iPhone will be different, but on the Note it is a little yellowish - this is not a screen problem at all, but an initial setting that was made to reduce eye fatigue and increase the operating time of the device.

The marketing term Retina means that at arm's length, you, with 100% vision, will not be able to see the screen grids, that is, individual dots. Both devices fit this definition well. But the overall impression of texts in the browser on EDGE is better, the fonts are smoother - you can easily see this in a photograph, but you won’t be able to discern it in real life, even if you look closely. But there is a difference, and it is felt.

Apple iPhone 6s/Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Operating time - battery

You can’t compare the operating time of devices head-on based on battery capacity, because the operating time depends on the performance of the processor, the operating time of the screen and the brightness of its backlight, and other characteristics of the phone. Historically, the iPhone has been a long-lasting smartphone. As a rule, it was based on the fact that the small iPhone screen did not consume as much power, while Android smartphones went far in both resolution and diagonal. In 2015, these parameters were partially leveled; power consumption in the iPhone is lower for many tasks, but the battery is also smaller.

Battery capacity in 6s is 1750 mAh (Li-Pol), in EDGE - 2600 mAh. The difference is big, but is it so big in everyday life? I would like to make a reservation right away that the utility that is available in iOS9 and shows the device’s operating time over the last 24 hours is almost not applicable in order to estimate the real operating time; in Android, the system utility that shows energy consumption is much better and more informative. Moreover, Apple traditionally misleads consumers by showing operating time as the sum of screen activity and background processes, which in past years led many to believe that 6-7 hours was screen operating time. In fact, this is not true. However, you can calculate the screen operating time yourself, summing up each line, and see how long the phone worked.

Video playback time on iPhone is up to 10 hours, on EDGE - about 12.5 hours. With the same screen brightness settings. But such a direct comparison is quite artificial, since in life we use different capabilities of the phone, write messages, make calls, connect a headset to the device and listen to music.

For almost three weeks, I used these two devices every day, trying to ensure roughly comparable load. The task is not the easiest; day after day I changed SIM cards to create approximately the same conditions. And here are the conclusions I came to.

Firstly, the runtime for these two devices is approximately the same in real-world usage scenarios. The gain of EDGE in some scenarios (video, data transfer) is not overwhelming; it is described as a 20-25% increase in operating time. For example, this can be seen when distributing the Internet to other devices. With an average load of smartphones, they will work from morning to evening; with heavy use, they will last until lunch. The impression is that they are very close in operating time; it is impossible to name a clear winner here.

Secondly, it is worth noting that when not using phones, the iPhone will show the best operating time; it actually freezes and does nothing. So if your phone sits around for a long time (a week or so), then you'll love the iPhone. This is more of a flaw in Android, which is constantly trying to transmit something in the background.

One of the disadvantages of the iPhone is that it takes a very long time to charge, 2-2.5 hours to reach full capacity. Of course, you can use an iPad charger, but this will negatively affect the battery capacity and its service life. The EDGE has fast adaptive charging (according charger included). In 15 minutes you can get 25 percent of the charge, which is convenient and allows you to charge the device on the go, in those moments when you find yourself near an outlet. Complete freedom with charging is pampering, I’ve gotten out of the habit of charging my phone at night, now I do it exclusively as needed and when it’s convenient for me.

Having built-in wireless charging is also a big plus; the iPhone doesn't have anything like it. This is, of course, an additional option, and it is not the most important, but sometimes in public places where there are such chargers, this allows you to recharge the device in a short time.

In iOS9, energy saving settings appeared; they cut off data transfer, make the interface slower, in a word, remove everything unnecessary. But they cannot radically increase the operating time. The EDGE has several power saving modes and in the extreme option, we get hours of use for calls and SMS as the screen goes to gray and consumes almost no power. For an IPS display on an iPhone, this is simply not possible.

One more point worth mentioning. In the iPhone 6s with a Samsung processor, the operating time is noticeably shorter; you can read about this in detail.

My device has a processor manufactured by TSMC, so the comparison of models in terms of operating time with EDGE applies only to this configuration. If you have an iPhone 6s with a Samsung processor, it will run 15-20 percent less. It's worth remembering this.

Performance, chipsets, RAM

I don't know people who buy phones without regard to their cost. It so happens that Apple fans are very proud of how the processors in the iPhone are optimized, how many virtual parrots they show in virtual tests, and how they outperform other solutions in terms of performance per processor core. But the problem is that a person buys a complete solution, which already has so many processor cores and such and such performance. It is the choice of each company how to optimize its device - focus on optimizing old hardware and achieving high performance through the OS (Apple) or create the most productive solution, the power of which is enough for any task (Samsung).

If the difference in the filling were also reflected in the cost of the solution, then any comparisons would be appropriate. But in a situation where a hardware-rich solution costs less, there is no point in complaining that the performance in virtual parrots is somehow different. This is just nonsense that is interesting to a very limited circle of people who are trying to show that their favorite manufacturer is better. This approach has nothing to do with real use cases.

In real life, the performance of these two solutions has no or almost no differences. The speed of opening applications is approximately the same. The implementation of RAM differs; for example, the iPhone has a limit on the number of open tabs in the browser; there cannot be a hundred or so of them, as is allowed on Android. Do you need so many tabs? It depends on you. In the latest versions of Android, applications are reloaded when opened from memory; they are restored to the same state as they were. But this often takes time. On iPhone, recent apps load faster unless you're running something power hungry. In everyday life, the difference is almost unnoticeable unless you sit with a stopwatch in your hand.

Now an important note regarding iOS9. In 2014, I wrote that the quality of iOS has been consistently decreasing since version 7; we already saw a sufficient number of shortcomings in version 8; it was not received in the best way. But the 9th version eclipsed everything that came before. At the moment, my iPhone 6s is already running on version 9.1, but a lot of minor and not so minor problems have not been fixed. Just look at the disappearing signals for messages in different programs; they either exist or they don’t. This is a basic function that is found in any phone, and it works there. There is a lottery here, sometimes there is sound, sometimes it disappears. Software error. As one iPhone fan wrote, he developed a habit of checking his phone every 15 minutes for messages. I think this is idiotic.

There is also a problem with CapsLock, when the letters on the keyboard jump randomly. They haven't been able to fix it for a long time.

With the release of 9.1, which was supposed to eliminate many problems, they only got worse. Visual glitches and overlapping windows began to appear in the interface.

An example of how mail works on my phone, although one might rather say that it doesn't work.

Well, the cherry on top is that when Wi-Fi is turned on, the phone often downloads data via the mobile network. The iOS9 version is just something, and its quality is far from anything that can be called a stable system. Unfortunately, I cannot compare it with Android 5.1 on EDGE, since on the latter I always hear notifications, the interface is not buggy and there are no other “little things”. It should be noted here that Apple’s ignorance of the basic principles of software development, which they had in past years, led to such sad consequences. While the company's fans defend it, promising that everything will be fixed soon, ordinary people are beginning to wonder if the king is naked. It is impossible to describe iOS9 in any words, it is simply a disaster.

Cameras, comparison of photo quality

I'll start with the front camera. For the first time, the iPhone received a new front camera with a higher resolution, it is 5 megapixels. The camera resolution in Samsung is exactly the same, but there are a few differences. For example, Samsung traditionally has a customizable Beauty Face feature that removes skin imperfections and can make your face look glossy.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

The girls are simply delighted with this opportunity, they really like it. Everyone else doesn't care, I think, unless you love taking selfies.

When recording video with the front camera, the quality is approximately comparable, it does not differ dramatically.

  • Example video on the front camera (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>
  • Example video on the front camera (Apple iPhone 6S) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>

For the iPhone, the new front-facing camera is a huge step forward, as until recently the cameras were of very mediocre quality. Now they are at market level, but nothing more.

Now let's look at the main camera, they differ in resolution, the Samsung has a 16 megapixel matrix, the iPhone has a 12 megapixel matrix. But, as you know, it is not the resolution that determines the quality of the images, but the algorithm for processing information from the matrix. From the point of view of everyday use, pictures from the iPhone and EDGE will be comparable in most cases, the slight superiority of EDGE on the phone screen will not be noticeable in any way, and almost no one looks at pictures on a PC. iPhone photos contain less information and cannot be zoomed in the same way as those from EDGE, but again, few people need this. When applied to a phone or social networks, both devices produce quite tolerable, high-quality images, they can be assessed at the same level. If you delve into the details, you will find out that there are more possibilities on EDGE; you can customize your camera operating mode (Pro Mode), select each of the settings and get fundamentally different photos. This is roughly like the automatic mode on point-and-shoot cameras, where you point the camera and shoot, comparable to a professional camera; only a few need the second one, as well as getting a high-quality result, they usually can’t, they just don’t know how. I would like to emphasize that the advanced capabilities of the camera in EDGE do not need to be used; “point and shoot” also works here.

I suggest looking at the photos at night and during the day, I’m sure you won’t see much of a difference.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

As before, I act as an advocate for the iPhone, that is, I interpret any comparison in its favor, even where there is a slight disadvantage. The reason for this is to offset the fact that I use EDGE daily and know this product well.

Communication capabilities

Formally, we are again faced with a two-worlds approach - one has Apple, using standard and open technologies, but turning them into proprietary options that are incompatible with other platforms. And there is Android, where everything is implemented as conveniently as possible.

The iPhone has an NFC chip, but it is only used for ApplePay payments (works in a limited number of places and not in Russia). Accordingly, you cannot use NFC to manage tags or pair with accessories in one touch, for example, an external wireless speaker or headset, on the iPhone. It’s a very convenient technology, but the iPhone doesn’t have it – it’s present in the EDGE.

Another point is the standards; EDGE uses Bluetooth 4.1, which better implements control of external devices. As a result, they will last longer on a single charge. The iPhone has gotten very sophisticated with Bluetooth, so every OS update is like a minefield; problems often start where there were none.

Devices from Samsung, and Note are no exception, are completely omnivorous, they work with all devices, and there are no problems as such.

I also note that Wi-Fi Direct support allows you to transfer large files to other devices, including smartphones. The implementation of AirDrop is much worse from all points of view, and it is much more difficult to configure. It either works, or you are just tormented, not understanding what you are doing wrong.

From the point of view of the noise reduction system, these are equivalent devices, two microphones and approximately the same location and operating algorithm. There were no problems while using the phones.

Radiation level, SAR value

Both devices operate on the same Russian networks, it is interesting to see what the radiation level is, namely the SAR value. You can see the value for iPhone 6s for Russia at this link.

For EDGE, SAR data can be found.

Traditionally, the radio part of the iPhone emits more, this has already become a tradition. It has not been scientifically proven how radiation affects the human body; we can only say that in the iPhone this parameter is twice as large. Please note that if you are worried and know for sure that radiation is harmful, then you should use a headset and, if possible, not carry your phone in your pockets. And it is advisable to abandon it altogether.

Issue price and final conclusions

Comparing these flagships, I always interpreted any discrepancies in favor of the iPhone, as they say about examiners, I pulled it out by the ears. Some will say that the iPhone doesn't need this, but I disagree. This product fails in many small ways, and the number of such small things is large if you combine them.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 6s does not have a single technology that would make the use of this device different, make it a leader in the market and allow it to overtake the same EDGE. The device is quite secondary, following Samsung, Apple began to use the 7000 series of aluminum, reacting to the scandal with bending phones, which, in my opinion, was far-fetched and in reality there was no such problem.

Many here can say that the iPhone screen has new 3D Touch technology, which is not found in any other device. I asked all my friends who use the latest generation iPhone, and the answers amazed me. Most people simply don't know what it is or how to work with it. The remaining 20 percent tried it once and then gave up, it’s inconvenient and unclear where it works and where it doesn’t. There is no habit of such technology, which means that its presence or absence does not in any way affect the perception of the device. I also don’t remember the IR port in the S6/S6 EDGE for controlling household appliances, since it can also be considered a feature that is not very important.

For Russia, it is also worth noting that the iPhone 6s does not have frequency aggregation, that is, the maximum speed in LTE will be limited, this may be fixed with new firmware in the future, so this point cannot be considered fundamental.

For the average consumer, several points are important about the device - operating time (the same, but charges faster than EDGE, plus there is wireless charging), screen quality and size (EDGE is ahead by a wide margin in every sense), camera (EDGE is a little better for those who can remove, everyone else will not feel the difference), the quality of the case materials (comparable, but the mineral glass in the iPhone is cheaper and breaks more easily). But there is one more parameter that can be called the most important, this is the cost of the devices.

So, the price for iPhone 6s 16GB in Russia starts from 57,000 rubles. A regular Galaxy S6 costs 38,000 rubles, EDGE - 44,000 rubles (prices in official company stores). It turns out that when you buy a Galaxy S6, you get a device that costs 19 thousand rubles less, and when you buy an EDGE, you save 13 thousand rubles. It’s also worth remembering that the basic version of the S6/S6 EDGE does not have 16 GB of memory, but exactly twice as much - 32 GB.

In my opinion, taking into account that the iPhone 6s does not have a single real, visible advantage over these two models, and the number of mistakes and errors in iOS9 exceeds reasonable limits, the choice is obvious. On the other hand, there are a large number of people who do not know how to choose and settle only on the brand they know and overpay for it. It's their choice and their money, you can't judge them for buying what they like. But it’s also impossible to consider their choice reasonable in any way; they buy a technologically weaker product for a lot of money. However, as shown above, in terms of use cases, the iPhone does not provide any benefit other than the feeling of owning an iPhone. However, in Russia, most people have already made their choice, and since the start of sales of the iPhone 6s, it has not been able to overtake the EDGE and S6 in sales; these models are sold in larger quantities.

But this material simply compares the main points in the devices, shows which of them is strong in one area or another, and you can draw your own conclusions. In the end, it’s up to you to buy a phone with your own money, and here you vote with your ruble.

P.S. Since such materials always cause hysterics among fans from both camps, I have a big request that if you compare something, do it with examples and with facts, otherwise the discussion will not work out.

In the very near future, Apple will present a new generation of the iPhone 7 smartphone, but for now the role of the flagship is played by the 6s model. Samsung recently revealed its new flagship Samsung Galaxy S7. These models are direct competitors, and therefore users often ask what to choose. We will talk about how the flagships differ and how they are similar.

Design and dimensions

The design of smartphones is completely different. If Samsung uses metal and glass, then the iPhone uses only metal. Although the use of glass cannot be called an ideal option, since fingerprints remain on it. But the Galaxy S7 is very beautiful and stylish. Can this be said about the 6S? The impression is spoiled by the strange protruding camera bezel and those stripes on the back. However, in iPhone 7 these unusual design elements will be changed. The rest is parity. As they say, it depends on the taste and color...

On the front, the models, although not very similar, are made in the same style - glass with a Home button. If the iPhone has a round one, then the Galaxy has a rectangular one. Interestingly, Samsung has an inscription of the same name under the speaker at the top of the case; the iPhone has nothing like that. Case colors are different.

Of course, the Galaxy S7 is larger, as it uses a 5.1-inch screen versus the iPhone's 4.7-inch. The difference is small - 2 mm in width and 4 mm in height. At the same time, the iPhone is slightly thinner - 7.1 mm versus 7.9 mm.

Display

The displays are excellent on both devices, despite the fact that the iPhone has a pixel density of only 326 ppi, while the Samsung has 576 ppi. Does this mean the pixels will be visible on the 6S? Well, if you just look carefully, then you can see something... In real life, you won’t see any pixels.

Samsung uses a SuperAMOLED screen, its colors are brighter; on the iPhone they are not so bright, but, let’s say, closer to “living” shades.

iPhone has 3D Touch technology. This is a technology that allows you to recognize the force of pressing the screen and thanks to this, opens up various settings for the user for a particular application. It seems that the technology was supposed to cause a sensation, but in reality there were no mass praise reviews. Just a new feature from Apple that almost no one has yet.

And of course, screen diagonal. We wrote above that for Samsung it is 5.1 inches, for iPhone it is 4.7 inches. What's better? It's up to you to decide: some people like a smaller screen, others a larger one.

Software

Samsung uses Android 6.0 with its own TouchWiz interface. Apple - iOS 9. Which of these firmware is better can be argued endlessly, and we won’t do that. Each of these firmwares has its fans, so there is no point in arguing. Let's just say that both firmware are good in their own way and work very quickly.

Hardware and performance

Galaxy S7 is more powerful. It uses 4GB of RAM and a Samsung Exynos 8890 processor, while the iPhone 6S has 2GB of RAM and an Apple A9 processor. But there is no point in looking at dry numbers, because in terms of operating speed, according to various tests, the iPhone is a little faster. This became possible thanks to the optimization carried out by Apple specialists. But the difference is small, that is, the Galaxy S7 also works very quickly, its system will not cause you any complaints.

It is also worth noting that both devices will have no problems launching applications; they should all work with maximum settings.

Camera

Numerous tests and reviews on the Internet prove that Samsung’s camera is definitely better, and many even call it the best on the smartphone market. The Sony IMX260 sensor is installed here, the resolution is 12 MP, the pixel size is 1.4 microns, and the lens aperture has increased to f/1.7. And with Samsung, the camera protrudes from the body by only 0.46 mm - a very good result.

Of course, the iPhone also has a very good camera, you can’t argue with that, but the Galaxy S7 is still better.

Battery

Samsung has a battery capacity of 3000 mAh, iPhone has 1715 mAh. Is the difference obvious? If you believe the reviews of various users, then the iPhone actually “lives” less in similar scenarios, but not by much. This may be due, among other things, to the fact that Samsung uses a screen with QHD resolution. However, both devices should be more than enough for daylight hours.

Price

The cost of an iPhone 6S 16Gb at the time of writing is about 41 thousand rubles. Samsung Galaxy S7 32Gb costs about 37 thousand rubles. The difference is small, but do not forget that Samsung is more modern and in many ways better, and even cheaper. But this is just our opinion. What to choose is up to you.

If you ask any user of mobile gadgets which smartphone is beyond competition, both on the Russian and foreign markets, almost everyone will answer that this is an Apple phone. For many years now, Apple smartphones have maintained a leading position in the mobile phone market. And if you compare any product from this company with the best phones from other manufacturers, devices from Apple will in most cases take a leading position.

However, there are exceptions. Despite the fact that iPhones have proven themselves well among tens of thousands of consumers, sometimes someone will have doubts and think about switching to another brand. Among such gadgets that can seriously compete with iPhones is the Samsung Galaxy. In terms of functionality, the Galaxy is very close to the sixth es version of the iPhone, so from time to time someone tries to compare these two devices.

Today's article compares the iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6. Based on a detailed analysis, we’ll try to figure out what is better than an iPhone 6 or a Samsung 6 in order to make the right choice and not regret it in the future.

If you choose a phone based on the specifications and think about what to focus on - the iPhone 6S or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - then the latter gadget will clearly win. The display of the Korean device is significantly larger, and its operation is based on more modern technology. The screen covering is made of special glass. But both devices have fingerprint scanners, which provides great opportunities in the user data protection system and simplifies the process of paying for purchases, which is now carried out in a matter of seconds.

The disadvantages of the Galaxy are, first of all, its large dimensions: the Korean device is somewhat thicker than its American “brother”. But this difference is not so significant and is only 0.1 millimeters. Another disadvantage of this model is the camera that protrudes slightly from the body. However, the camera quality of the Samsung phone itself is much better.

Advantages of the Samsung Galaxy camera compared to a similar element of the iPhone 6S:

  • Optical stabilization available.
  • More (100%) number of megapixels.
  • The front camera is superior in all respects to the iPhone camera.

It should be rightly noted that the cases of both devices are good. But the iPhone has an all-aluminum body, while the Galaxy has glass elements. Although glass looks beautiful, it is a rather fragile material, so its presence in the case can be considered a minor disadvantage. But, nevertheless, everything depends on the accuracy of the user and his approach to the operation of mobile equipment. We can only advise owners of a Samsung device to handle their smartphones as carefully as possible and avoid dropping the device from a great height.

Samsung Galaxy S6, if you compare this phone with other, earlier products from Samsung, is radically different from them. Previously, all phones came in plastic cases. The design has become more perfect, the finishing has become more refined and refined. The color range is varied and includes 5 colors

The manufacturer released Galaxy in the following colors:

  • Bel.
  • Gold.
  • Deep blue.
  • Blue.
  • Green.

You won't find such a color palette on any other device. As Galaxy sales statistics show, most users chose the white case - oddly enough, because of its practicality and because it gets dirty less than other cases. However, it is necessary to clean the housing and wipe it with a dry cloth frequently, because Fingerprints remain on it (this feature applies only to the glass elements of the device).

The body of the Samsung gadget has become monolithic, which eliminates the possibility of installing a compartment for SIM cards and a removable battery in the device. The capacity of the latter, compared to other models, has not been increased, but it is still superior in power to the iPhone 6S. In addition, the manufacturer added a wireless charger to the gadget - this is one of its main features and advantages over the iPhone.

By the way, Galaxy’s filling is richer. The Samsung device is based on a 14-bit processor and 3 gigabytes of RAM. And the sixth iPhone, version S, has a 64-bit A8 processor, and only 1 gigabyte of RAM.

Going a little further, let's touch on the differences between the displays. Samsung also did not increase the screen diagonal; it remained. As in previous phones - 5.1 inches. iPhone 6 looks worse in this regard, but we can’t say that it’s bad - no, but its Korean competitor clearly wins here.

It should be noted that the display can be the main feature of any mobile device, because when choosing it, a potential consumer pays attention first of all. And only then does he consider the camera, the quality of the buttons, the speed of opening applications, etc. Even at the first glance at the two high-tech devices being compared, it becomes clear that the engineers from Korea did a great job making the Galaxy screen smarter in design and more convenient.

iPhone 6S VS Samsung Galaxy S6: screen test

The displays of the Galaxy S6 VS and the iPhone 6 S have characteristics that are significantly different from each other. The screen of the first device is based on advanced technology and includes a self-emissive matrix with organic light diodes. The Galaxy's pixel density is phenomenal - at 577 ppi, and today this is the best indicator among mobile devices.

The display of the iPhone six version S is more conservative and includes an inch LCD matrix. The pixel density of the latter is 2 times less than that of a Samsung smartphone. If you look at the iPhone screen up close, the pixelation becomes noticeable, but this is not observed at all on the second gadget. Although, if you don’t look closely, the picture on the displays of both models is quite decent, sharp and clear. Only the most demanding user can find fault with the iPhone 6 in this regard.

By the way, it’s worth talking in more detail about the brightness level of screens. This characteristic for the Galaxy can reach 380 cd/m2 with a maximum reduction in the area filled with white, and in bright light this quite good result increases by 3.5 times.

So, the undeniable advantages of the Galaxy display are as follows:

  • Brighter screen.
  • Highly effective anti-glare coating.
  • Increased contrast.
  • Rich color and natural picture in any lighting conditions.

The brightness of the iPhone 6 S, if we consider the maximum indicator, is also high - 550 cd/m2, but it still loses to the Galaxy smartphone. The display of this device also has anti-glare technology and a high degree of contrast.

The gamma of both devices does not cause any problems during setup, and the indicators are close to ideal values. Moreover, for both phones everything is almost the same.

In general, a comparison of the iPhone 6 S and Galaxy screens shows the clear superiority of the Korean smartphone in the following indicators:

  • Brightness and contrast.
  • Width of viewing angles.
  • More flexible color settings.

Despite the above, I will again emphasize that the Galaxy's superiority does not mean that the iPhone is bad in any respect. For example, its LCD display technology is the most advanced among all smartphones. But to the average user, all the differences from Galaxy listed above are not noticeable. But, of course, an experienced user will immediately notice a tint of blue on the display, as well as imperfect clarity.

Comparison of iPhone 6 with Galaxy S 6: the most important thing

Finally, we will provide a visual comparison of the characteristics of the two devices so that you can quickly determine for yourself the advantages and disadvantages of each phone. Below is a comparison table of both gadgets.

iPhone 6S VS iPhone 6S – comparative characteristics, table

Phone model Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB Apple iPhone 6 16GB
Price from 25,000 rub. from 40,000 rub.
Weight OK. 140 grams OK. 130 grams
operating system Android 5 iOS version 9
Image resolution 16 megapixels 8 megapixels
Screen diagonal 5.1 inches 4.7 inches
CPU Samsung Exynos 7420 Apple A8
Processor cores 8 2
RAM 32 gigabytes 16 gigabytes

From the table presented above, the similarities and differences between the 2 smartphone models that are discussed in today’s review are clearly visible. So, as always, Apple phones are some of the most expensive mobile gadgets on the market. Is this justified or not? Here, user opinions, as always, differ. But a number of owners of Apple devices have a strong opinion that, despite all the positive properties of iPhones, their price is much too high. Advanced users know how to buy an Apple phone much cheaper than in Russia - for example, buy an American device and then unlock it.

One of the significant differences between one device and another is the camera, the characteristics of which are undoubtedly better in the Galaxy. In terms of performance, the Samsung device is also superior to the iPhone 6S.

However, despite all of the above, we note that any technique is tested in action. On paper, incl. In the instructions for devices, a lot can be written, because every manufacturer praises their product. It is also worth listening to the opinions of other users. But don’t put them at the forefront when choosing a smartphone for yourself, since everyone has their own tastes and preferences. Certain phone functions are important to each of us. For some it’s the quality of calls, for others it’s the RAM capabilities and performance, for others it’s the quality of the camera, etc.
